YABA College of Technology (Yabatech) in
partnership with Nigeria Space Agency (NSA) is
fine-tuning modalities to launch young Nigerian
scientists to the moon.
This objective was made known during an
interactive meeting between representatives of
the NSA and the management of the college
recently.
At the meeting, Dr. Babatunde Rabiu and Prof.
Christie Amory stood in for the Space Weather
Initiative (SWI).
Amory, in her address, stressed that the Space
Weather Initiative is globally affiliated and
recognised by the United Nations with the
objective to promote and encourage scientists
to work and conduct researches in their
countries.
According to her, weather characteristics exist
within the space as to generate significant
impacts on our environment.
She promised to enlist Yaba College of
Technology among other institutions to
collaborate with the group and its affiliated
bodies.
According to her, the pact would cut across
areas of space weather, space data gathering
and interpretation by using the recently
launched NIGERSAT and geographical
information system.
Dr. Rabiu Babatunde, however, assured the
college on the Nigeria Space Agency support in
the cooperation, in the areas of research
materials, exchange and funding.
In a related development, Yabatech will be
organising a three day international conference
billed to take place from April 18 to 20, 2012
and it would be targeted at assisting federal
government to combat the challenges of global
climate change.
The conference, tagged ‘ Global Climate
Change, Environmental Pollution and Food
Security: Implication for African countries’
would be used to harness ideas, innovations and
best practices capable of addressing global
challenges resulting from climatic variation and
environmental pollution in Africa.
The conference is also designed to bridge the
gap among the academia, farmers, policy
makers, government parastatals and industries.
During the conference, Prof. L.K. Narasmha Rao
of the University of Tirupati, India would be
leading the pack of international and national
speakers.
Among other speakers include Prof. Layi
Fagbenle of the University of Ibadan, Dr. Halilu
Ahmed Shaba of National Space Research and
Development and Dr. Oluwole Ariyo of Allen
University, United States of America among
others.
‘FOR every good that you wish to preserve, you
will have to sacrifice your comfort and your
ease. There is nothing for nothing any longer.’

Have these guys day-dreaming about going to the moon ever heard of the Van Allen belt cosmic radiation? It will do them some good to know more about that layer. Even, the last "acclaimed" visit to the moon by USA in 1969 is now being scrutinized in the scientific and academic world. Naija like to talk big, sha. Well, it's good to make mouth.
