Stop using religion to destabilize S/west, ACN warns PDP

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against continuing to play the religious card in its desperate and ongoing attempt to destabilize the South-west, saying the consequences of such a misadventure will be too grave for the nation.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the concocted accusations against Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, that he is trying to Islamize the state and also engineering secession, were part of the PDP’s grand plans to use religion as a destabilizing force in the South-west in particular and the whole country in Nigeria.

”The South-west as a region does not have a history of religious intolerance as, in most families, adherents of the various faith have co-existed peacefully through the ages. It is therefore curious that a party that prides itself as pan-Nigeria will seek to end the age-long religious tolerance in this region just for political expediency,” ACN said.

The party further said the fact that the PDP desperadoes and their collaborators in the security services could even try to link Governor Aregbesola with Boko Haram is an indication of how low they are willing to sink just to carry out their nefarious plot.

ACN noted that any keen observer of the way the PDP-controlled federal government has handled the Boko Haram crisis will not be too surprised that the party’s goons in the South-west, backed by their clueless bosses at the federal level, are resorting to religion in their inordinate quest to ‘recapture’ the
region they so mindlessly plundered in their first coming.

Boko Haram’s Kabiru Sokoto’s phone calls reveal his conversations with some influential Nigerians and his strategic plan

His presence in Borno state government lodge and consequent escape led to an inquiry about the possible involvement of Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, in the Boko Haram terrorism. The governor of the North-east state could be questioned by police detectives. The National Security Adviser, NSA, constituted an investigation panel to provide answers on his relationship with Sokoto, whether he did conspire to hide Sokoto away from security agents or whether he was conniving to fly the wanted criminal overseas. There is more serious allegation that Shettima is among the major sponsors of the Boko Haram Islamic sect.

Sources said Sokoto was finally trapped at Borno state governments lodge, Abuja after intensive surveillance on him by about 65 police detectives from force Criminal Investigation Department, the Terrorism unit and the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Most of the officers said to be involved in tracking down Sokoto are said to be among the 45 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), who were trained on tracking devices and counter terrorism operation in Israel under the watch of the MOSSAD shortly after the police headquarters was bombed on June 6, 2010.
However the security team recorded a major breakthrough while investigating the Kabiru Sokoto case when they seized his mobile phone. After thorough investigation on the phone’s recording device, and at the mobile providers, listened to Sokoto’s conversation with some influential Nigerians and their strategic plans. Apart from alleged dalliance with governors, ministers and top politicians from the North, Sokoto provided evidence that Boko Haram had infiltrated the Nigerian police, SSS and the military. “The flight lieutenant arrested with him has questions to answer likewise the military officer and the SSS man at the Borno state governor’s lodge”, a source said.

The mobile phone recorder gave details of the Boko Haram operations as well as vital information on the Islamic sect’s interaction with state security agents. “You know the president inferred recently that there are saboteurs in his government and the security organisation. Now when the investigators seized Kabiru Sokoto’s phone they came across some of his recorded conversation with influential Nigerians.

The Justice Department announced Tuesday the government's civil rights lawyers have jumped into a legal case to support a Muslim girl's right to wear a head scarf in a public school.

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Alex Acosta said government lawyers would support 11-year-old Nashala Hearn, a sixth-grade student who has sued the Muskogee, Oklahoma, Public School District for ordering her to remove her head scarf, or hijab, because it violated the dress code of the Benjamin Franklin Science Academy, which she attended.
