keep quiet, I responded earlier on how we were cheated, but I know we also played badly so I edited my post, its up there. why weren't we given a penalty, so a player is now doing d job of a keeper, Madrid would have been given one. so many wrong offside calls against us. I know we played badly, only messi did well today but we were also cheated, its not an excuse but a fact.

Fifa only listen when Madrid do the
talking

As the two sodden sets of
players trudged off the
waterlogged field after
Saturday’s second Club
World Cup quarter-final in
Rabat, alarm bells were already ringing. Six hours
of incessant rain and two matches in quick
succession had turned an already churned-up
surface into a veritable mudbath.
There was clearly no way it would be in any state
to host another match on Tuesday, but then it
was never really fit for the second game on
Saturday either. There was, though, one crucial
detail that differed between the two scenarios.
On Saturday it was only Cruz Azul and Western
Sydney Wanderers being affected.
It didn’t matter to FIFA that it was sending out
two sides to re-enact a game of water polo rather
than play football. Who are those tiny clubs with
their instantly forgettable players to doubt the
mighty governing body’s motives?
But Real Madrid are different.
They have Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James
Rodriguez and Iker Casillas. FIFA is willing to bend
over backwards for them, and once word spread
from Spain that Madrid were in touch with the
governing body regarding a switch it was no
surprise that confirmation soon followed.
While it is the sensible decision to have moved
Tuesday’s semi-final between Madrid and Cruz
Azul to Marrakech, it came 24 hours too late for
Tony Popovic’s Asian champions.
"You can’t control nature: when it rains, it rains.
But if the pitch had been up to standard it
wouldn’t have mattered," the Australian coach
complained immediately after his side’s 3-1 loss.
And Popovic was exactly right. Even in
Wednesday’s opener, under a cloudless sky after
days of bright sunshine, the ball ran true only a
small percentage of the time
The pitch had not been correctly prepared for a
major tournament, during which four games
would be played in six days, despite the three
years’ notice Moroccan officials were given of their
hosting the competition. The customary pre-match
training sessions were all moved away from the
stadium, but that was never going to be enough.
Popovic and Azul coach Luis Fernando Tena both
expressed concern over the conditions before their
head-to-head with the rain pouring down, but
nobody paid any attention. It was only when Real
Madrid piped up that FIFA listened. That should
never be the way.
It was clear to everyone that there was no way
Ronaldo would be expected to attempt to play on
that surface, especially not with further storms on
the way.
But why are Labinot Haliti or Hugo Pavone, Akram
Djahnit or Tim Payne any different to Ronaldo?
Each one of them has the same right as the
Portuguese star to be presented with the best
possible conditions in which to ply their trade,
especially when this is meant to be the pinnacle
of world club football.
Semi-finalists Auckland City were even forced to
check out of their Rabat hotel at the unusually
early time of 9am on Sunday in order to give staff
extra time to prepare the red carpet for Madrid’s
arrival more than eight hours later.

Ronaldo | He and Madrid are not entitled to
special treatment
Perhaps the New Zealand football federation
should ask that FIFA’s bigwigs be treated with
similar disdain when they arrive to oversee the
Under-20 World Cup in the south pacific next
June?
Ronaldo might well be the best player in the world
and Madrid the greatest club on the planet, but
they have no more right to a flat, green surface
and comfortable surroundings than anybody else.
If the Rabat pitch was not good enough for Real
Madrid, then neither was it good enough for the
five teams that had already been sent out onto it.
Real are blameless here - they have every right to
raise their concerns, but smaller teams should
also command FIFA's ear.
Football is meant to be played on a level playing
field, yet in more than one sense that has been
proven not to be the case over the past week.
FIFA has spent the last decade trying to promote
the Club World Cup as the best of the best.
Yet it leaves itself with impossibly short
turnarounds, closing off routes for contingencies.
It fails to recognise a dreadful pitch in good time
for something to be done to rescue the integrity
of the fixtures played on it. And it only listens
when a select few holler.
President Sepp Blatter bangs on regularly about
the “football family”, but it is clear who FIFA’s
favourite children are.

Real Madrid triumph inevitable in
uncompetitive Club World Cup

The usual platitudes were
peddled about, of course.
"All of the teams here are
champions", "We must take
each game step-by-step", "Our opponents are
tough", "We need to be humble and work as hard
as in every other game".
But what Pepe and Carlo Ancelotti both knew as
they spoke at Monday’s media conference in
Rabat is that there is no way Real Madrid will not
win the Club World Cup. They just couldn’t say
that.
Anything short of a pair of convincing victories at
this tournament would be a huge embarrassment
for the Spaniards, and a failure to see the job
through would represent one of the biggest upsets
in recent football history. They are quite possibly
the most overwhelming favourites any tournament
has ever seen.
With every plastic question about the strength of
Tuesday’s semi-final opponents Cruz Azul came an
equally artificial answer. Pepe knew it, Ancelotti
knew it, and everyone else in the room knew it. grin

The rampant inevitability of a Blancos triumph is
so overpowering that the rest might as well go
home now. There is simply no competition in this
competition.
Normally there would at least be the chance that
complacency might set in and that somebody
would be able to mount a challenge stern enough
to capitalise.
But that is pie-in-the-sky talk in this case. A
Madrid side putting in only 40 per cent effort
would still bring home the bacon. grin

Were Madrid about to step onto the paddy field in
Rabat on Tuesday, then you never know what
might have laid ahead. Instead they are on a
comparatively untouched surface in Marrakech, a
pitch primed for them to go out and do their stuff
with Cruz Azul little more than unwitting
bystanders.
The real triumph for the other teams in this
competition is to earn the right to play against the
likes of Ronaldo, Bale and Benzema not to actually
win the tournament. They are realistic enough to
admit there are two completely different levels of
football on show here.
Cruz Azul will go home with their memories and
the right to tell their grandchildren that they
played against Real Madrid. San Lorenzo and
Auckland City will fight it out for the chance to do
the same.
And on Saturday night, Madrid will lift the Club
World Cup for the first time. There is surely no
other possible result. grin
