A man is trapped in a room. The room has only two possible exits: two doors. Through the first door there is a room constructed from magnifying glass. The blazing hot sun instantly fries anything or anyone that enters. Through the second door there is a fire-breathing dragon. How does the man escape? |

Re: Riddles Riddles Riddles!!! by Tinkybabe(f): 1:44pm On Aug 29, 2012 |
dlex21: @tinky...this is specially 4 u dlex21!!! you are wicked o..I never claimed to be a maths guru now.. 1)296 x 3=888 888+ 2 =890 ...888,890 2)IK has 12 times as many as GC if GC has b Chuks has 3b and IK 12b b+3b+12b= 192 16b= 192 b=192/16 =12 IK=12x12 =144 Chuks =3x12=36 GC= 12 3)It's best to change the hr time to mins these are all the figures given so 12 x60=720mins and 10x60= 600mins then 9mins nine mins ago from present time is twice the no of mins past ten since we do not know what the current time is ..we can work our equation or ans to 9 mins to 12.In essence we are looking at how many mins it is to 9mins to 12(11.51am)assuming the current time is twice the no of mins past ten. so; 10 past the unknown mins =12 to (2 x unknown) mins -9 In equation, let unknown mins be 'm' and change all hrs to mins 600+m =720-2m-9 600+m =720-9-2m 600+m =711-2m(take like terms) m+2m =711-600 3m =111 m=111/3 =37 therefore 9 mins ago the time was 'twice 37mins' past 10 which is 11.14 and current time is 11.14+9mins =11.23am no mins to 12 is 37 I don tire abeg..will attempt the fourth question later ..as for 5,I think naturalwaves's got the answer. |

Re: Riddles Riddles Riddles!!! by naturalwaves: 6:05pm On Aug 29, 2012 |
dlex21: 3) How many minutes is it before 12 noon if nine minutes ago it was twice as many minutes past 10 am? Let d no of minutes after 10 o'clock = X Then,9 minutes ago,d time = X-9 By 12 noon, 'X' will be = 120 minutes Anytime before 12 noon = (120-X) Since d no of minutes b4 12 was 2wice as many minutes past 10 9 minutes ago, Therefore, 2(120-X)= (X-9) 240-2X= X-9 3X = 249 X = 249/3 X=83. This means that d time is about 83 minutes past 10 and 83 minutes past 10 is d same thing as 11:23 am(wen u add it up).Current time =11:23 am Amount of minutes it is b4 12pm= 12:00-11:23 =37 minutes. Ans = 37 minutes. Welldone Tinkybabe,U beat me to dis one....U won't believe I spent almost 2hrs on it(*covers face with palms*)...d question was a lil bit ambiguous to me initially....I will try and crack d sequence question now.I'm yet to understand d pattern. |
Re: Riddles Riddles Riddles!!! by Tinkybabe(f): 6:22pm On Aug 29, 2012 |
^^ Your method is even shorter, welldone too.The question is indeed ambiguous.I've attempted the fourt, nothing is forthcoming. |
Re: Riddles Riddles Riddles!!! by naturalwaves: 6:47pm On Aug 29, 2012 |
^^^ Thank U Tinkybabe,I initially used exactly d same approach as urs where I first converted everything to minutes but got lost somewhere in d middle. It was d "TWICE AS MANY MINUTES PAST 10" part I couldn't decipher....was not sure wich of d times Dlex was referring to. |

[quote author=dlex21 4) Find five consecutive numbers in the series that total 22: 7 3 9 6 4 1 3 7 9 3 5 4 1 7 6 5.....[/quote] The answer is 7,9,3,5,6. Here is d xplanation. To my solution ; 7,3,9,6,4,1,3,7,9,3,5,4,1,7,6,5 is d given sequence. On a closer look,I observed d ff; 1)There is either an increase or a decrease in d value of consecutive terms with d smallest being 1 and d highest being 6. 2)There are only 7 numbers in d whole sequence which are ; 1,3,4,5,6,7,9 Taking d first number in d series I.e 7 as d 1st term,u will observe that there is a decrease btw 7 and 3,an increase btw 3 and 9,a decrease btw 9 and 6 etc etc. I observed d variation and saw that this is d pattern in groups of 5s xcluding our 1st term I.e 7. Here is d pattern; D I D D D. 3,9,6,4,1 I I I D I. 3,7,9,3,5 D D I D D. 4,1,7,6,5 Where I =Increase and D= Decrease. Note: There is only ONE INCREASE in d first 5 terms and it starts from d 2nd no from left. For,d 2nd 5 terms,it was alternated so that there would be only ONE DECREASE wich starts from d 2nd no from back. For d 3rd 5 terms,we had 1 increase also but started from d 3rd term from d front. Now,to decide what pattern we will av for d 4th 5 terms,it will be 1 decrease(alternation) which will start from d 3rd no from d back. Therefore, our next pattern is; I I D I I Observe also that wen a 5 series ends with a decrease and d nxt starts with an increase,we shall add 2 to continue d nxt but wen a sequence ends with an increase and d nxt starts with a decrease,we shall add 1. Our new sequence starts with an increase and d 3rd sequence ends with a decrease,so ,our first unknown term =5+2 =7. For d 2nd term,d only possible increase after 7 is 9 so,our second unknown =9. Our nxt unknown is a decrease and that is d only decrease in d whole term.Anytime there is just a single decrease or increase,we chose d widest diff possible which is 6 .So,our third unknown term= 9-6= 3. An increase after a decrease in wich such increase is not d only one in d sequence is a +2. Therefore, our fourth term in d sequence = 3+2=5. D only possible term for our last increase and last term of d unknown is 6 since we av already used a 7 in d sequence. Therefore the answer for d nxt 5 terms is 7, 9, 3, 5, 6. Q.E.D |

dlex21: Haaaaa......U did not ask d question well. We all thought u meant there are 22 terms in all and we should find d next 5 terms from where u stopped(*hits head on d table*).WTF!... But I will keep my solution anyway and test it on pple. ...Thanks for d compliment. Since I know what U meant now, then d answer is; 9,3,5,4,1. This couldn't av posed any prob.I'm sure others tot d same thing as I did think....u will see what they will say wen they come back.U don enter am today. |

naturalwaves: Hello dlex, tinkybabe, valiantvaliant and everyone. Here is another brain teaser.Try and solve it. The 1st surgeon will use glove A and will pull it off wen done.Glove A will have one clean side and one blood stained part. The 2nd surgeon will put on glove B and do d same as d first surgeon. As for d 3rd surgeon,he will put on glove A exactly d way d 1st surgeon wore it.Since he cannot use d blood stained surface on d patient again,he will reverse glove B leaving d clean side as d outermost and then put it ontop of d glove A he is putting on. By so doing, there won't be a direct lay of blood on his palms,d two blood stained surfaces will contact in-between and he will have a clean surface to perform his own surgery on d patient also. 1 Like |
