honeric01: I feel like just cursing all those who allowed this situation to happen, i mean everyone, both those who voted for this situation and those who were voted for, also those involved right now and those who have the "capacity" to do something positive about this scenario.

so you're saying because people voted for GEJ Atiku and Ciroma are carrying out their threat of making the country ungovernable. And you are blaming the voters not the murderers. This is crazy. People should cowardly vote for those that threaten them most. Nigerians you have heard.

Its so funny reading some of the posts by some people here talking or calling for war. Hmmmmm may we not see war oo. The guys calling for it should know that no body profits from war (go to the ibo elders n ask). What is happening in d north is just sad n unfortunate, there are some very lovely people in d north but they have a few religiously misguided youths and they are the ones causing wahala there.
If the country must split then I pray the split is peaceful n not thru war, Nigeria as it is today is not worth the blood of any innocent soul.
God bless us all.

Calebsky: At least 34 people have been killed in an attack on a cattle market in north-eastern Nigeria, security officials have told the BBC.

Another 29 people were injured, said Nigerian military spokesman Col Dahiru Abdussalam.

The market in Potiskum, Yobe state, was set on fire by gunmen armed with explosives.

Police say the attack may be in revenge for the killing by traders of a man who had earlier tried to steal cattle.
'

The joint taskforce, a combined operation between Nigeria's army and police, is pursuing the "unidentified gunmen", Col Abdussalam said.

"A group of gunmen armed with around 20 explosives and assault rifles attacked the Potiskum cattle market," police spokesman Toyin Gbadegesin told the AFP news agency.

"They threw explosives and shot indiscriminately, setting fire to the market, killing lots of livestock and wounding many people, mostly cattle dealers," he said.

A gang of men locked the gate of Potiskum's fenced cattle market, trapping many traders and livestock inside, residents told the BBC.

The market - a bustling trading hub, with cattle on sale from neighbouring Chad, Cameroon and Niger - was razed to the ground late on Wednesday and many animals were also burned to death, residents say.

Witnesses say they saw several bodies being removed from the market.

Correspondents say the attack does not appear to be the work of the radical Islamist group Boko Haram, which has carried out deadly bombings and shootings across northern Nigeria, including Potiskum, in the past 20 months.

Re: 34 People Killed At Potiskum Cattle-Market In Yobe State by naijaforlife: 7:23pm On May 03, 2012
It is really rather annoying when we bring ethno-religious sentiments into virtually all issues. I am not a fan of GEJ but whether GEJ should resign or not is his own decision to make. Howbeit controversial, he won an election! Nontheless, he sincerely needs to be president enough! Though the truth is that the intensity of the violence and wanton destruction of lives and properties is highest in the North. This does not mean that other regions do not have their own share of the misfortune in another guise (armed robbery, kidnapping, intra-tribal conflicts, etc). Scores of those who might have voted for him died in various attacks especially at the place of worship or just being unfortunate to be on duty during some of these nefarious attacks. Leaving the region may not be the solution. The students, academics, bankers, or businesses whether government, corporate or private do not have ready made alternatives even if they relocate to the south. And come to think about it, minus boko haram, the south is not that different as stated earlier. GEJ should please at least for once actively preside over this country. His passive style seems not working for now, if at all it will. I fear that like wildfire, you only know when it beggins, the speed with which it spreads is astonishing. God forbids, this violence may get to the South if not curtailed. My condolence to those who lost relatives and properties in this recent and the previous violent acts

Is not funny that some people are ok with d killings of today becos d abokis were killed but were vusy shouting like fools wen christians were attacked in BUK, a religious war indeed. D boko haram hv intention of causing chaos. Is it wen bh attack d south that gej wud care? No becos bh won't until their sponsors gives such orders. More attacks wud continue. Churches wud be attacked all in a bid for an anti north sympathy. If subsidy probe wud be thrown away by d govt, y wud they care abt security.

1025: how on earth is a country with a president go this low in history. jonathan has contributed more bloods than any other past president of this country to their cult blood bank.
there is every tendency that nigeria will be reduced to half of its population by the time jonathan finish his first tenure.
i remembered as far back as 2003 when the then Gov of abia state(orji uzor kalu) said that pdp is a blood thirsty party and no one took him serious.
it is only pdp that has solution to this problem.
someone took an oath to protect the lives and properties of nigerians and that he is not doing in any manner - why can't this man resign and save our lives?

dont you think you are confused, they became violent because gej is from south, hence they make their selves ungovernable.

if you were gej what will you do? use force on them? which will lead to killing of innocent people, displace women and children. the northern politicians that started this, has just made the bigest mistake in the destiny of nigeria.

like you , i think gej is confuse. the unfortunate truth is that northern nigeria has just taken the path of sudan, somalia, afghanistan etc especially with their links to al-qader, taliban etc.

like every problem in nigeria nobody is taking this serious untill it will be too late.

why has labour not gone on strike, where is save nigeria group, all paying lip service because their pocket is not involve.
