Beaf: Check out the album sleeve of Fela's beast of no nation. Can you notice that Idiagbon is portrayed as much bigger than Buhari, who in turn is potrayed as only a secondary figure?
That is because Ifiagbon was the defacto ruler, while Buhari spent his loafing around since the NNPC documents had been destroyed.

If you look in the right hand corner, you will notice the judge lying protrate before Fela after begging him for wrongfully jailing him.

General Tunde Idiagbon was a no nonsense, unsmiling, morally upright, disciplined guy. A man of few words.

The late, Great General Tunde Idiagbon

Maybe his Jamo wife left him as per se he no get better thing doing than type nonsense all day.

The frustrated man is so confused, he tagged Idiagbon as "the late great Idiagbon"

We thank God for the greatness of that Government whether you ascribe it to Idiagbon or Buhari (who gave Idiagbon carte blanche to enact the reforms Beaf so much likes).

If only Nnamadi Sambo could do the same for GEJ since he is incapable of doing anything but stealing Nigeria dry, buying out every Tom, Dick and Harry, wiping out the Nations accounts, putting the Nation in renewed debt; and failing to pay monthly allocations to two tiers of Government and NYSC corpers despite presiding over the largest oil revenues Nigeria has ever received even accounting for inflation.

More jaundiced crap. From the creatures of the night.
You give them logic and they come back with silly sentiment. embarassed
The truth is bitter, but it must be exposed.

Our $2.8billion was traced to Buhari's fixed deposit account. True or false?
The only reason Buhari siezed power was to burn and shred incriminating documents. True or false?
After Buhari had finished shredding and burning, the crying general resigned and Idiagbon took over. True or false?
Today, just as he stole our $2.8billion, so is Buhari stealing all Idiagbons accolades as his. True or false?
When IBB overthrew the regime, he had to wait for Idiagbon to be out of the country, but didn't give a damn where Buhari was. Cos Idiagbon was the man. True or false?

Several weeks ago when Professor Wole Soyinka took a swipe at General Buhari as a presidential candidate, there was an avalanche of angry northern responses condemning the Nobel laureate's attack on their favoured candidate. Most of the responses however did little to address the salient issues raised by the Professor in his critique. Even when they did their responses were puerile and insulting to the intelligence of Nigerians.

A case in point is Mohammed Haruna's absurd rationalization of Buhari's double standard in confining Shagari to house arrest while jailing other political detainees including the erstwhile Vice president who exercised no power in the ill-fated 2nd republic. Mallam Haruna would have us believe that Shagari's house arrest was actually worse than being jailed in Nigeria's notoriously inhospitable gulag, on the grounds that Shagari was in solitary confinement. Apparently solitary confinement (if at all that was the objective) is not possible in prison, only in the comfort of a furnished flat.

Other pro-Buhari agitators vainly tried to box us into a false dilemma. Since the Nobel Laureate condemned the presidential candidature of both Buhari and Yar'Adua, who were Nigerians supposed to vote for ? This is a dim-witted question in nation of 140 million people with more than 40 political parties and over 20 presidential candidates.

In his critique, Professor Soyinka amply documented Buhari's numerous human right abuses for which the arrogant, unrepentant General never expressed any remorse nor apologies even when offered the opportunity at the Oputa panel. Yet his sycophants would have Nigerians entrust him with executive presidential powers. What's the guarantee that he won't turn out to be another tyrant like Obasanjo - notorious for his appalling abuse of presidential powers ?

The General's selling point appears to be the hype about his supposed moral integrity, which will supposedly translate to eradication of corruption. A trip down memory lane however tells us different. Under the late dark-goggled General, Buhari presided over PTF (petroleum trust fund), which was later revealed to be a cesspool of corruption. If the supposedly incorruptible Daura general couldn't stop corruption in PTF, then he obviously can't be trusted to eradicate corruption from Nigeria. Let's not forget that Obasanjo, Nigeria's present failure, made similar anti-corruption noises at the inception of his maladministration in 1999.

The infamous 53 suitcase saga during Buhari's 20 month military misrule also raises questions about his commitment to the eradication of corruption. A northern Emir was accosted by Custom agents at Lagos international airport with 53 suitcases of currency in direct violation of the prevailing laws. Buhari redeployed the principled customs officer – our current embattled vice president – who apprehended the Emir, while allowing the sacred cow Emir to go scot free. Ironically in several circles today, that principled customs officer - vice president Atiku Abubakar - is portrayed as corrupt while Buhari is hailed as incorruptible.

Contrast Buhari's kid's glove, pat-on-the-back for the 53-suitcase Emir, with Fela's unjust imprisonment ostensibly for failing to declare his own hard earned foreign currency. The truth of the matter is that the vindictive Buhari never forgave the late Afrobeat maestro for his popular hit tune Army Arrangement, in which Fela sang about the 2.8 billion Naira that reportedly disappeared from our nation's oil accounts while Buhari was petroleum minister. In the song, Fela captured the public cynicism of government denial of the scandal…not surprising, given the poor credibility of most Nigerian governments… Dem set up enquiry, Dem say money no lose O !

To any discerning mind, Buhari's discriminatory enforcement of the law enforcement a.k.a. "selective justice" vis-à-vis Shagari / Ekwueme detention, and Fela / 54 case Emir currency violations clearly indicate that the general is no different from Nigeria's present tormentor, Obasanjo who is using EFCC to witch-hunt and persecute his political adversaries.

It is common knowledge that one of Nigeria's major problems is our economic malaise and underdevelopment. General Buhari's actions as military head of state suggest that he is bereft of some of the basic economic principles required for running a nation's economy. Faced with the scarcity of "essenco" (essential commodities) during his regime, our Daura General came up with the brilliant brainwave of sending armed soldiers to forcibly break into shops and compel traders to sell goods below their purchase price. Even today as the 2007 presidential campaign heats up, Buhari - like several other presidential candidates – is yet to enunciate sound economic policies to transform Nigeria.

Then there is the issue of Buhari's pseudo-religious demagoguery, which has sometimes been mistaken for religious fanaticism. At the height of Nigeria's Sharia crisis when there was a real danger of Nigeria being torn apart along religious lines, the General added fuel to the raging Sharia fire that was threatening to consume the nation by supporting the promulgation of discriminatory religious laws in our multi-religious country contrary to our secular constitution. Buhari failed to rise above sectional ethno-religious interests as was expected of a former head of state and presumed statesman.

If the General really believed in Sharia law, why didn't he promulgate it as military head of state ? One is therefore forced to conclude that the general was simply playing to the northern gallery – hypocritical religious demagoguery for cheap popularity among the northern masses, hence his undeserved saintly reputation. Or perhaps he was a coward who lacked the guts to prosecute the Sharia Jihad while he was in power. The General later compounded matters by publicly instructing Muslims to only vote for Muslims. His sycophants and propagandists have unconvincingly tried to deny or "explain" his statement, but the arrogant general never bothered.

Perhaps because of his self-serving judicial battle against Obasanjo's infamous 419 re-election in 2003, Buhari has been misleadingly promoted in some quarters as a "champion of democracy". In the run-up to the 2003 gubernatorial election in Kano state, Ibrahim "Little" Amin won the ANPP nomination fair and square, and was publicly declared as such. Saint Buhari, the democrat was instrumental to scheming out Mallam Amin and imposing the current Kano state governor, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. It just goes to show that if Buhari had been Obasanjo's shoes in 2003, he would have rigged the election just as like OBJ.

Nigerians should be wary of recycling leaders who have failed us before. Obasanjo's disastrous presidency in the face of enormous oil revenues is more than enough lesson. As has been painstakingly elucidated above, Buhari presidency would be no different from Obasanjo's current ruinous misrule.

ABUJA, May 13 (Reuters) - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is coming under pressure to prosecute top officials implicated in a $6.8 billion fuel subsidy fraud, but many of the suspects are allies he is unlikely to go after if wants to keep his power base intact.

It has been three weeks since parliament produced a report detailing massive corruption in a state subsidised petrol import scheme and Jonathan has yet to indicate how he intends to respond.

Inaction on one of the biggest corruption scandals in Nigerian history will hurt Jonathan's reformist credentials and further alienate his government from a disillusioned population. It could also prompt major public protests.

Even Buhari's gang of hypocrites are saying the same thing.

El-Rufai insists Buhari is unelectable
By Segun Balogun

Mohammadu Buhari’s record as a military head of state will perpetually render him unelectable because Nigerians will never desire a repeat of such administration, said Nasir El-Rufai, former FCT Minister.

Reacting to statements made by the Mohammadu Buhari’s party, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), regarding the advice he gave the retired army general to retire from politics, Mr. El-Rufai, in a statement on Monday, said age is certainly a factor in the coming presidential election since Ibrahim Babangida has already defamed young Nigerians as unfit for national leadership.

“While it is true that neither youth nor age supplies wisdom on their own, it makes sense to ask those who have been recurring decimals in our country’s sorry history to leave the stage. I’m amazed that General Buhari cannot debate this matter without scurrying to the gutter, making claims that are baseless and unsupported by any facts,” said Mr. El-Rufai, describing Mr. Buhari’s leadership style as parochial and insensitive to Nigeria’s diverse background.

He asked whether “the failure [of Mr. Buhari and Mr. Babangida] to do their best for Nigeria when they had the chance qualifies them for a return to office. Our people surely deserve better.”

He was obviously irked by the claims made by CPC regarding his administration as a federal minister, describing them as fictitious and prejudicial.

“Despite the difficult decisions that had to be taken to restore Abuja, Mallam El-Rufai continues to receive deserved praise and recognition for his achievements in restoring the Abuja master plan, introducing Nigeria’s first computerised land registry, and helping thousands of Nigerians achieve their dreams of home ownership in the federal capital,” the statement said.

A reminder

“In 1984, Buhari allowed 53 suitcases belonging to his ADC’s father, to enter Nigeria unchecked, at a time the country was exchanging old currency for new. Against all canons of legal decency, he used retroactive laws to execute three young men for drug-peddling after they were convicted by a military tribunal, and not regular courts of law.

“Buhari was so high handed that he gave himself and his officials immunity, even from truthful reporting. That obnoxious Decree 4, against which truth was no defence, was used to jail journalists and attempt to cow the media as a whole. That tyrannical legislation shows the essence of his intolerance.

These are facts of recent history,” the statement said.

A new mindset

Mr. El-Rufai said it will take more than slander to become electable in 2011 because Nigerians will rather cherish an intellectual discourse about their daily problems.

While saying he still respects both Buhari and Babangida as elder statesmen, he emphasised his belief that their age, experience, and guidance are best used to contribute to the success of any future government.

Mr. Buhari, according to him, is not the kind of leader that can move the country forward because “now is the time for a new generation of leaders with new thinking and wholesome democratic attitude.

“The vicious response by the Buhari camp to a simple statement that their almost-70 principal should retire, is proof enough that a Buhari, the new Democrat, tolerant of views different from his own, is yet to evolve. And that is sad, for his fledgling party and its leadership,” the statement said.

In related news, Beaf has gotten a vicious migraine after receiving the News that Northern Governors coming out of their meeting yesterday backed Buhari over his recent comments:

2015: North’s governors back Buhari’s warning

Again, certain facts are understood; that if this happens, that would happen... May be those who may be too concerned (about what Gen Buhari said) have not looked at what other eminent Nigerians have been talking about. I saw one that said Nigeria is going to be Somalianised...

There is nothing wrong in Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s warning against rigging of the 2015 general elections, the North’s governors said yesterday.

Gen. Buhari, the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 general election, stirred the hornet’s nest when he said violence will greet rigging of the 2015 polls.

The Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chided him. But the largest opposition party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), backed the general whom it said could air his view freely.

The CPC also supported the former Head of State’s position, saying PDP should not intimidate Nigerians.

Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, who is also the chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors Forum, told reporters in Kaduna yesterday after reading the communiqué of the 19 governors’ meeting that Gen. Buhari did not err by warning against rigging of elections.

He said: “Again, certain facts are understood; that if this happens, that would happen. I think it is a natural thing to do. May be those who may be too concerned (about what Gen Buhari said) have not looked at what other eminent Nigerians have been talking about.

“I saw one that said Nigeria is going to be Somalianised. I saw another one who has been talking like there would be war tomorrow. So, for me, that statement should be taken on its own value. Do not go and do bad election. I think that is the thing I will take from there.

“All of us who are involved in elections - political parties, contestants and the voters themselves - must be careful so that whatever we do, the semblance of good will be there. But, again, like I said, certain people are in a position that certain vocabularies they use, they should be careful about. So, both ways let us take it on our own stride and ensure that future elections are seen to be transparent and are seen to be good”.

Dr. Aliyu said even though people have various ways of communicating their opinion, the statement made by the former Head of State should be taken in its own value.

The governor, however, cautioned eminent Nigerians against making inflammatory statements capable of affecting the nation’s fragile unity and security. He said Nigerians must be concerned about the unity and development of the country in all its ramifications.

He noted that the central message of the former Nigerian leader is that stakeholders should strive to ensure that there is free and fair election, adding that all those involved in conducting elections must be careful in whatever they do so that the outcome will be transparent.

With the Niger State governor were other governors.

He was silent on Buhari’s threat of bloodbath, if the elections are not free and fair.

In the communiqué, the governors expressed concern about the growing insecurity in the region and pledged to intensify efforts at finding a lasting solution to the problems by reaching out to all stakeholders.

The governors said they had decided to reposition the forum to be more effective and provide good governance, better understanding and cooperation among members.

Speaking at the opening session of the meeting, Aliyu said:”My fellow colleagues, it is very disturbing to note the emerging trend of distractive political activities in the nation, ostensibly to prepare the ground for the actualisation of some people’s political ambition in 2015.

“Whereas it is legitimate for anybody to aspire to any leadership position, subject to the provision of our constitution, we must remember that 2015 or any date for that matter, belongs to Almighty Allah (SWT) who decrees what happens to individuals or society at any given period. We should, therefore, leave 2015 or beyond unto Almighty Allah to do as pleases Him.

“We should recognise that the interest of the people is paramount and we must use the political party platform to promote such interest in fulfillment of the campaign pledges made to the people. We need to rededicate ourselves to the service of our people, especially the underprivileged in the society.

“This is contingent on the fact that we have the mandate of the people and that Allah will hold us accountable for our actions and inactions. Let us resist the temptation to be drawn into issues that may only cause us to lose focus in serving the people or gaining the everlasting favour of our creator.

“If our present opportunity as governors and leaders cannot earn us paradise, it should not send us to hell. Above all, we must do everything possible to ensure that we enter 2015 as a peaceful and united constituent, Nigeria.”

Aliyu said it was unfortunate that insecurity had not abated; rather, it is worsening and attaining very alarming dimension, with attendant negative implications for the economic growth, development and image of the nation.

Nigeria, he said, is “passing through a very difficult phase in the history of the nation, a period that put our patriotism, nationalism, sincerity and responsibility collectively to test.

“This is the period that we have to demonstrate individually and collectively our abiding faith in our nation, when we must confront the common enemies of the nation, those who are sworn to destroying the spirit of nationhood through wanton destruction of lives and property.”

Aliyu praised the Federal Government for its readiness to dialogue on security issues with various interest groups, adding: “We should, therefore, encourage any individual or group that can make positive contributions to the peace building process, while at our own level, we should do everything possible to bring peace to reign in our states.”

It is unknown how Beaf will react to this but experts on Mad Beaf Syndrome (MBS) have said that he is likely to dash into his archives to bring-out all the washed-up lies that he used to becloud the reasoning of feeble-minded people (who have been gnashing their teeth thereafter) in the run-up to the 2011 Presidential election. The experts say we can expect a campaign of calumny against the amiable General over the next few days on Nairaland, Twitter and even Sahara Reporters(a platform he hates so much). These experts have warned members of the public that have not been vaccinated against Mad Beaf Syndrome (MBS) to stay clear of Beaf pending the time that more vaccines would be procured for administration to the most vulnerable groups of people.

I find myself in agreement with Beaf. Buhari probably marvels at the extent of retrograde amnesia that pervades the collective Nigerian psyche, as he grins in unbelief at the messianic status he suddenly enjoys. When a man of Wole Soyinka's prominence takes it upon himself to refresh a nation's memory of the ignoble character known as Buhari, one would expect a hint of attentiveness from those being cautioned. The problem, I sense, is that some people have unwittingly let their displeasure with the contemporary government guide them into the void of outright stupidity, in believing that Buhari has anything tangible to offer this country.
Nevertheless, I've frequently wondered how Idiagbon is often cited as the true authority in the Buhari regime, yet is never apportioned much blame for the atrocities of the regime. If he was truly the man in charge, then history must hold him accountable accordingly. It's faulty to attribute whatever good that came out of the regime to Idiagbon, and saddle Buhari with the negatives, as is often done.

^^^As Soyinka said, we all might be due for some comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, to determine for good, who has strayed off the axis of reality in this country. From Professor's perspective, which I share, this your 'Buhari-mania' represents nothing but chronic madness.

There is something not right about Soyinka

I suspect that if he really did criticise Buhari's then he is not as wise as some would lead us to believe.

Soyinka's anti-corruption record is not good.

He has worked with some of the most corrupt governments in Nigeria's history and even worked in Babangida's government.

Soyinka appears to be an enemy of the only two anti-corruption governments in our history - Buhari's and Abacha's

I suspect Soyinka has had Mad Beaf Disease for some time now.

Why did Soyinka not oppose the very corrupt and criminal Obasanjo, with the same vigour he has opposed Buhari's and Abacha's governments?

...if only a fraction of the energy that is being spent on Buhari could be harnessed into providing potable water, or power, for Nigerians.

Don't mind these wild people who think they can bury the truth with gutter behaviour. One of thewild people even says, "there is something not right about Soyinka." Sacrilege.

And I agree with you about Idiagbons culpability in the crimes of Buhari's regime, especially as Buhari was only there as decoration after resigning when he had burnt and shredded the incriminating NNPC documents.

No amount of desperate lunacy can hide the truth.

Rewind...

Beaf: Still Soyinka on Buhari

But then, speaking the truth was not what Buhari, as a self-imposed leader, was especially enamoured of enquire of Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor both of whom, faithful to their journalistic calling, published nothing but the truth, yet ended up sentenced under Buhari’s decree. Mind you, no one can say that Buhari was not true to his word. shall tamper with the freedom of the press swore the dictator immediately on grabbing office, and this was exactly what he did. And so on, and on, and on.
