Because previously super computers solved it as the article said. Plus even if there were no super computers the puzzle would have a beginning and end but no equation on how to solve how beginning got to end aka there is no middle because no other person could solve it. You understand so far? Ok. So he would have worked out correctly how to get from beginning to end. Its no rocket science.

This sounds like mostly hype. The simplest arrangement of falling bodies that take drag into account would be a reasonably large body with flat surfaces, then your standard k*v^2 is ok. To know if this so called breakthrough is worthy of celebration we need to know what are his assumptions about the falling body. Does his "analytical solution" apply to arbitrary bodies?(Probably no solution possible) Even for everyday boring shaped bodies, solving for tragectories would involve an account consisting of many coupled nonlinear pde's.

I don't think that this news deserves the killing of cow.
