Well, I remember wen pple were celebrating, I had no idea y and y others were mourning. Years after, I learnt abacha was wicked and evil but those who agree abacha was evil cudnt tell me if standard of living is better now. As for abacha, he is a past tense, mow we hv d freedom to achieve sometin better, are we achieving it? The govt let's us they are corrupt, we now how much they steal but things hasn't change. They seem to be no diifferent from d past and present. If u talked to much in d past they kill u (wiwa) if u talk too much now, them give u position and money (abbati). The good tin with d present is d freedom to protest but ofcourse d present govt do exercise the option of abacha's protocol.

When you say it was better, can you please be specific?
In what regards. Is it health, education, security, electricity generation, freedom of speech....just be specific and lets not make blanket statements.
let me help u. . .
1. Fuel was relatively cheap @ dat time compared 2 what it is nw
2. The naira was much stronger than what it is now
3. we probably had only armed bandits 2 contend with but presently, we have kidnappers, terrorists, militants e.t.c 2 contend with
4. Nigeria was "feared" in the international arena cos Abacha stood up 2 defend d country
5. The standard of living was much better than what it is now
still checking around 4 more. . .

What can I say to Abacha?
Thank you for showing us the way to China. But then no thanks because I inhaled that smelly fuel that you imported.

Atleast he was known for being evil, what is GEJ about?

Abacha was a good president. Just because yorubas were getting dealt with because of their senseless acts doesn't mean we should follow them and hate Abacha. This were in much better condition during Abacha's time.

1. Crude oil was $20-25 per barrel then. And even then what we had in Nigeria is adultrated fuel that smell like corpse. If you are old enough then, you will know what I am talking about.
2. Economic activities determines position of your currency. However, then he operated two regimes of exchange; one for his friends and family and the other for the economy.
3. The rise of armed bandit was a direct response of what Abacha imposed on the nation, where no one can voice his agitation. Beside, he is the terror. Bombs are being planted by his cronies everywhere in Lagos.
4. If your citizen are "feared", something is wrong with the leadership. No one fear American citizen, yet their govt defend them. Today, no nation can depot Nigerians as we used to experience then without facing the repercussion.
5. The standard of living was worse under Abacha. Civil servants are being owed 12 months salary. Nothing was working.

Alxmyr: I now believe those that said majority of people protesting MAULAG are kids when the struggle was on.
How on earth will anyone compare Abacha regime with anything that we have together?
In the first place, if Abacha was alive, do anyone one of you think you will have the gut to post anything online about GOVERNMENT?
Some people said there is development because of PTF; if Abacha had done the roads with PTF would we still be having problem with roads?
If he had raised our electricity generation to 20,000MW, would we be struggling with poor electricity supply?
During Abacha regime, even civil servant of level 14 cannot pay house rents?
Some body pointed out economic development; which economy? CBN sold USD for N22 to Abacha families and cronies, every other persons buy USD for 80 to 90 Naira.
Somebody mention fuel increment: I laugh in Japanese. Abacha regime brought toxic fuel into Nigeria. That was the time we were buying fuel that knocks engines from filling stations.
Who on earth will praise Ababcha?
Many are crucifying Obj for third term; Abacha was on the verge of becoming life president. And there is no one that has the audacity to confront him.
So,where is Abacha today?
What are you people talking about.

1.what ever crude oil was sold @ in the international market is not the business of the poor man as long as he can afford it to an extent.I remember reading somewhere @ the height of the fuel subsidy brouhaha that some marketers sold water as fuel.
2. Well, u did not dispute the fact though that the naira was much stronger then(whatever the reason may be)
3. Hope u understood what I wrote there? Under Abacha, we never heard of kidnappers going on rampage, boko haram dropping bombs or militancy but now, the security situation in the country is worse-thank God u did not dispute that.
4. I mean, we were respected in the international front. No country dared taking us 4 granted but today, our people are molested, maimed and killed by foreigners and yet the government keeps mute.Even in the foreign embassies here,u need to c the shoddy treatment given to us right @ our own backyard. What d'u mean by no nation can deport Nigerians without receiving repercussion? or r u deceived by that one-off south african gaffe?
5. 100 naira could feed a family then, but today 100 naira cannot feed an individual. Even the 18k minimum wage, seems like a mirage.Things were manageable but now things are unbearable.

Some people here have made comment on the issue in support and against the General but the truth is that the man although a tyrant but his policies economically was the best a fit that this government can't achieve even in 50yrs SOmeone said something abt electricity that if his govt had done well we should be having light now but sir can u remember well that in his time we saw more light than darkness and it was as a result of his death that the importation of generators rose to over 200% because in his time u dear not sabotage the govt and go away with it alive some mentioned road sir roads were beta maintained in his time he stopped the payment of Julius Berger with crude oil for road maintenance the list goes on all I can say any his regime that I don't like is the killing and no freedom that's all. Apart from that he was the bomb take it or leave it .

freecocoa: Oh well i was still a child when you died but that doesn't change the fact that i remember some things vividly coupled with the fact many people think you are evil.

So judging from what my parents and many elders say,May you never find peace wherever you are.

Happy continuation of your suffering in hell tongue.

Most chicks in their 'prime' now are between 18 and 23 years old. Assuming a girl is 22 now, she'd have been only 8 years old in 1998 innit? At that time I'm sure you were already shaving your bountiful pubic region. So there you have it. It's amazing how quickly they grow.

Actually not everyone hates Abatcha, only the Southwest does...and you cant blame them for that!
The Northerners hated OBJ as well, and from the way things are going, every region is against GEJ!

ALL THOSE WHO HATE HIM ARE THOSE IN POSITION TO STEAL AND ARE CORRUPT. WHAT CAN U EXPECT FROM A COUNTRY OF 150MILLION CORRUPT PEOPLE. THEY WILL NEVER SUPPORT WHAT IS RIGHT. AND WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW IS RIGHT IN THEIR EYES PROVIDED IT BUTTERS THEIR BREAD. AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, YOU SEE ALL THESE ASSHOLES EITHER IN CHURCH OR MOSQUE. 150 MILLION HYPOCRITES.

I think God was not being fair in allowing Abacha to die on the down-stroke while phucking 2-dollar AIDS-infested Indian hookers.

A more befitting end would have been for the midget despot to have been tortured to death by a screaming mob, and for his tattered corpse to have then been dragged through the streets of his village by a trained hyena.

Don't you wonder what nigeria would be like today if he was still alive, I seroisly doubt there would be corrouption to this outragious scale. Obvously, infrastructure would be better, military would have been stronger. Most importantly no boko haram, militants, kidnaping for ransom, no spiradic assu strikes etc

I believe nigeria would have been much developed and better, but this is my own opinion.
