So if the buildings did not fall, Lagos state government would not have generated ideas on how to to fill their long existing pot holes? I hope its not the new Lagos environmental policy, to await plan crash before filling pot holes oh! we rebuke it in Jesus Name, Amen!

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has started using the piles of rubble evacuated from demolished buildings affected by the Sunday plane crash to fill potholes on streets around the crash site.

The move, however, excited fears of epidemic among residents who felt that the rubble should have been taken out of the area.

Our correspondent, who was at the Iju-Ishaga area of the the site on Thursday observed that LASEMA used its excavation machines to fill the potholes, while the its officials spread the debris.

The streets, Tolulope, Adebayo, Popoola and Olaniyi were in a state of disrepair before the crash and were made worse by the heavy equipment used for rescue operation.

A resident, Dapo Ganiyu, an unemployed graduate, said many people in the area did not appreciate LASEMA’s effort.

He said, “There is no way that pieces of flesh will not be in the rubble. As you can smell for yourself, there are offensive odours everywhere. This is dangerous.”

Another resident, Alhaji Ayo Amidu, said the good intention of the state government could backfire as the rubble could cause epidemic in the area.

He said, “Many residents here have made the observation. I am sure that elders within the neighbourhood will do something about it. Don’t forget that people were pulled out from the initial rubble before the buildings were demolished.”

Assistant Chief Training Officer, NEMA, Mr. Olarewaju Kadiri, also dispelled the fear of epidemic, saying the areas were fumigated on Wednesday. According to him as they evacuate the rubble, more fumigation exercise will take place to prevent epidemic.

The government officials and workers are they all illiterates? Whats wrong with this country? How can you take rubble from a crash site where almost 200 people died to fill the roads around the area. First of all its disrespectful and second of all its a serious health hazard.

Is it now that they are seeing the potholes around that area? So Lagos now resorts in waiting for buildings to be destroyed before they can fix the roads in that area with the rubble from the destroyed buildings? People live there for christs sake. Families, children....... This is a serious health concern and another medical time bomb waiting to explode. We claim to be civilized. I spit on Lagos state, Nigeria and all its officials who think with their rear ends and not their brains. I just feel like fixing a very huge horn speaker on the roof of my vehicle and driving up and down our major streets of Lagos screaming F--CK THE GOVERNMENT! Because that is what they deserve.

Re: Lagos Fills Roads With Crash Site Rubble by deeflamez(m): 2:44pm On Jun 08, 2012
Yes, Fashola's name wasn't readily mentioned cos HE'S VISIBLY WORKING. That said, by the way someone mentioned that the streets Local Govt in many parts of Lagos are in bad condition.

Yeah, you said it yourself "Local Govt" - so i ask you: What has Fashola got to do with your street when it's under a Local Govt with a Chairman & several Councillors who after money has been allocated to them, instead of making use of it to develop their Constituents, they eat it up. Fashola's job is to monitor the MAJOR INFTRASTRUCTURES which so far he's done WELL. Other projects have been allocated to Constituents, and if your Chairman has eaten your 'Allocation' ...awwww sorry, not Fashola's fault ¯\..(•͡.̮ •͡ )../¯

Stating that a building is not structurally sound just by looking at the picture is NOT the same thing as condemning what is clearly an unsafe practice (i.e using the rubble of a plane crash to fill the potholes)

To even put the two together shows how utterly clueless some people are. A half witted monkey with bananas for brains knows the latter is a NO NO and only someone who is brain dead will call another person out for condemning what is clearly a wrong thing. Some of us are not blind followers who defend anything just because we like the person in charge.

So please stop the alabosism and let's all come together to condemn what is wrong.

You notice how most people are condemning the act without mentioning Fashola's name. I am sure that if NEMA had been the one managing this situation, we would have seen GEJ dragged into the incident by any means possible.

Okay now you are just sounding like the people you condemn everyday for blind followership. . .what is anti-Fashola about saying using the rubble from a freaking plane crash to fill the potholes on roads people use every day is wrong??!!!
Re: Lagos Fills Roads With Crash Site Rubble by Beaf: 2:53pm On Jun 08, 2012
Bullshiit! People should be either sacked or shot for this!
Damn! I am so distressed and angry at this news. What is wrong with Nigerians?
First people looted the site as soon as the plane crashed without the least effort to save lives or concern for humanity. Now Fashola's govt is filling the streets with rubble from the crash site with zero respect for the dead, zero respect for the distressed residents, zero respect for health and zero levels of morality.

Common sense says, bury that rubble in an unknown place.

Up ACN!

Haba sisi, please tell us what the state should have done with the rubbles. At some point, it needs to be cleaned up right !

Now what should the state do with the rubble ?

If you want to honour the dead, then a monument can be built on the crash site in remembrance of the people not rubbles

No my sister

Highly disrespectful ? what is more disrespectful than leaving the crush site the way it is ?

What more disrespectful than our aviation minister not looking and passing on policies to make sure events like that does not occur again.

Why can't GEJ build a monument or something on the crush site ?

What did GEJ do about the crush other than 3 days of mourning, back to business.

These are the question we need to ask ourselves, it simply shows the government has no conscience.

He is busy chasing how to change university names while his country is on fire, death after death.

6-12 hours before the crash, an accident occured on Ibadan-Lagoa expressway killing 25 on the spot, that is a Federal road

What did he say to that ?

What did the minister of works say about that ?

What has the minister of Aviation said ? what policies has she made to prevent this in the future ?

Any investigation ? or it is paddy paddy government

The issue here is ethical and sentimental, Yes looking at it, we look at the ethics

Now the site needs to be cleared whether we like it or not, What we should ask from the Minister is investigation and policies to prevent issues like this

what we need to ask from the state government is a form of remembrance of the people.

We are not going to use the rubbles for anything, neither would it serve any purpose while laying there. All it would do is give miscreates the opportunity to have a hide out.

Yes it was a very sad event, everyone in the country is sad BUT THE BEST WAY TO SERVE JUSTICE TO THE DEAD PEOPLE IS TO MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT OCCUR AGAIN !!!

Let's see, what could the state have done with the rubble from a plan crash? Hmmm, this is clearly a tough one. . . because obviously this is an unprecedented event so in the absence of specific examples, we have no choice put do whatever.

Now Now I know some people are thinking. . .wait a minute, how did the New Yorkers get rid of the debris from 9/11 but hey you can't compare the two. . .they had two planes and the twin towers and ours is just one plane, which clearly produced more rubble thus making it hard to find an easy solution.
Re: Lagos Fills Roads With Crash Site Rubble by jmaine: 3:22pm On Jun 08, 2012
This is a case of good intentions but bad approach . . .obviously LASEMA never thought of the health implication in their quest to strengthen the waste to wealth policy of the Lagos State government. Sheer ignorance played a huge part in this blunder, cos most of their staff don't have the necessary requisite health and safety knowledge

Yes sisi, you understand my point. I must say those against this move have their point as well because it deals with ethics and morals which I prefectly understand.

There is no point playing politics with issues like that. What we should demand for are

1. Why the plane crashed ? What happened, human or mechanical error ?

2. How to prevent such from happening in the future

3. How do we remember these Nigerians and foreigners that died in this unfortunate event.
