$620,000 bribe: IG, three CPs grill Farouk Lawan
June 14, 2012 by Agency Reporter

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, and three Commissioners of Police on Thursday grilled a ranking member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan, over his role in the collection of a $620,000 bribe from an oil marketer, Femi Otedola.

Lawan allegedly received a part of the bribe in April while he was heading the House Ad Hoc Committee on the Management of Fuel Subsidy.

The Clerk of the committee, Boniface Emenalo, also collected a part of the money.

But Lawan said he collected the money as evidence against Otedola.

Lawan arrived at the Force Headquarters, Abuja at 4p.m and was immediately ushered into the IG’s office.

Also at the grilling, which was still ongoing at the time of this report, is the head of the IG’s Special Task Force on the matter, CP Ali Ahmadu.

The task force team leader continued with the interrogation for one hour.
After an hour, Ali went to the seventh floor of the Louis Edet House to brief the IG and get further directives.

The police had threatened to declare Lawan wanted after he failed to honour its invitation to appear before it since Monday.

Otedola appeared on Tuesday and provided a video tape of Lawan allegedly collecting the money as well as other documents.

More details later.

Its time for NLanders to know who the real enemy is. Now, the panel report isnt worth implementation because it is based on lies and frivolities. Lawan, let the Nigerian populace down, and the effort of the GEJ led executive to prosecute the scammers has been ruined by Lawan. I miss China, Lawan would have been beheaded by now.

Um no it has not! The man is being questioned -- has not been arrested or formally charged, even with all the evidence that the many stories claim to be floating around. Walking into a police station for questioning is not to be confused with an arrest.

Now that he knows that the game is over, this is not the time to take on lawyers or trying to waste money on self defence ,as simple as a,b,c apologise to nigerians. For him to really re-write his name in gold, should mention all those that were involved in the whole saga for record purposes. His political careers have been scattered and destroyed, but he must not be destroyed alone. He must carry some people (fellow lawmakers) along the part of political destruction. Expose every thing and let nigerians know what they have turned legislation to cos i believe, all of them were involved. You will be surprised that even, the speaker and the key members will have their shares. If not, he will be used, dumped and even, they make more money on his head by setting up kangaroo commitee to investigate what they all took part in.
Femi otedolas case is just one among many . They should just rename house of assembly to house of bribery and corruption.

Hmmm, let's see if Nigeria has changed. Otherwise he gets interrogated today and then ultimately, he gets prosecuted.....and that's the end! The obituary!!! And then someday somewhere somehow one Farcrook will assume one obscure political office like that. I can't remember any public servant who has gone to prisone in Nigeria since 1999. Let justice be done.
