Here you go: Another brain-dead idea coming to your neighbourhood - courtesy of the People Destroying People (PDP) party of Nigeria.

Whoever heard of a party as a business entity. Prediction: something really bad is going to happen in the country soon, if this madness doesn't put its hands inside its mother's cloth.

The Peoples Democratic Party is planning to acquire oil and telecommunication licenses to generate revenue for the party, SUNDAY PUNCH has authoritatively learnt.

This was part of the revenue generation and investments strategies of the party, which was prepared by its National Financial Secretary, Mr. Bolaji Anani.

Anani, in a memo entitled, “Revenue generations and investments” to the National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, said it would be easy for the party to get the needed concession and operator’s licence.

Anani wrote under the sub-head “Major Sectors,” in the memo said, “With a high degree of anonymity, we can earn reasonable short and long term returns if the venture is properly structured.

“We should be able to get (the) needed concession and operator’s licence with some measure of ease.”

It was not clear those that the party were targeting as fronts in this regard.

Our correspondent, however, reports that the party was already talking to some known oil markers, especially those known to be its financiers.

Other areas where the party hopes to generate funds include real estate and the establishment of print and electronic media companies.

Anani further wrote, “The establishment of PDP Holding Company Ltd is to hold and negotiate the interests of the party in all investments and business arrangements.”

On loans, the party said it planned to “raise short, medium and long term loans from financial institutions to fund the party’s investments and programmes with minimum risk.”

Meanwhile, the party is expecting the sum of N140.97m as annual contributions of the Senate President, Senator David Mark; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and other members of the National Assembly.

Each of the 71 senators produced by the party is expected to pay the sum of N45m which represents five per cent deduction from their basic salaries. Mark and Tambuwal are expected to pay more because they earn more.

I thought all we have to deal with are juveniles in power, now it is clear that we are dealing the most illiterate set of people to ever to control the affairs of a nation in the history of mankind.

The Oyo Mesi of the old Oyo empire, without any changes to their form and organization or even education as in the 18the/19th century, would be making better decisions today than the federal party we have in charge of Nigeria in the 21st century. embarassed embarassed embarassed

You're right. The authors of this new idea first failed to notice what happened in the old soviet union when the party became the goverment and the goverment became the biggest company in the country. Same goes for the Egyptian military that has investments in farming, construction, healthcare, etc.
If we think there's corruption in Nigeria now, just wait until one party in power finds a way to maintain itself in power without reference to the people for support. It will be some sort of self replicating entity; in medicine we call such entities cancer.

These figures do not add up. Is each senator earning N900m?
That N140.97m need to come from only 4 senators

If PDP owns a company, will I ever get a contract if I am competing with it?
If PDP owns a media house, will we not be drowned by propaganda for government while they can cover their losses from that media house from one concession or the other

PDP Holding Co. Ltd?! Nigeria is a very sick country and sadly, many of its citizens are not far behind in ailment - now some say a political party has the right to own and operate a business!

All this is the reason Nigeria can not work. It is better we just have a one party system and people will now fight among each other for position inside PDP. already PDP have their funding from the government and will now add plc to its earning, so where do the opposition start.
This also show a sign of unrepentant attitude towards the nation. We really need people that can run this country, not OBJ, Anenih, Goodluck, they should all be put into a Zoo because the don't have a clue of anything.
And what surprises me more is when topics like this comes up, you now see young Nigeria joining to post unbelievable comments. well what can I say , what Sunday

People have refused to make sacrifices for this country. They would get their legal rights not minding what happens after. So unfortunate!

Nigeria is a joke - so a political party is now targetting the nations resources and infrastructure - whether or not they are in power.

This is the height of corruption - I expect ACN to announce the same soon.

Whilst we dum.b ar.see Nigerians just sit there complaining but doing nothing about this government tyranny.

Once PDP controlthe oil wells are telecoms infrastructure they wont even have any need to win elections.

I think this is called 'Fascism'.

I think their line of reasoning here is the avoidance of 2011 scenario where a too-compromised president is being forced to protect the core donators to his election war chest, but i can bet what the are creating here actually is a Lucky Luciano styled organised crime commission where the best criminals from each region will be their pple's rep.
PDP really needs to be checked if we want to go forward in our Democracy.
