No, sugar doesn't cause diabetes. But candy and
other sugary foods contribute plenty of calories, which
can lead to weight gain, and being overweight greatly
increases the risk of type 2 diabetes. The saying that sugar causes diabetes is a medical misconception that is believed by so many Nigerian. Diabetes Causes
Type 1 diabetes: Type 1diabetes is believed to be an
autoimmune disease. The body's immune system specifically attacks the cells in the pancreas
that produce insulin. Type 2 diabetes: Type 2 diabetes has strong genetic links, meaning that type 2 diabetes tends to run in families. Several genes have been identified, and
more are under study which may relate to the causes of type 2diabetes. Risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes include the following:
1.High blood pressure
2.High blood triglyceride (fat) levels
3.Gestational diabetes or giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
4.High-fat diet
5.High alcohol intake
6.Sedentary lifestyle
7.Obesity or being overweight. 8. Ethnicity. 9. Ageing.
