As for me, I prefer Nigerian movies anytime to Ghanian movies, there's so much indecency in Ghanian movies but their quality is quite good though, nevertheless, Nigerian movies are stepping their game up. Having watched some of these Nigerian movies being sold at stores like 7-eleven, most of them are really cool and quality is good.

Classic Nigerian. Sadly many Nigerians have no idea the true state of their country, something that should be common knowledge. This is a nation where a cool 70% of the population live in poverty (that is about 120 million people), this is a nation where 12% of newborns die before their 5th birthday. A nation which piratically have no national power grid, a nation where crime and murder is among the top 5 in the world, a nation of boko harams, a nation that gave the world 419, one of the only three nations still with polio epidemic (the other two are india & pakistan) , a nation where 70% of budget allocations is stolen, a nation whose name is synonymous with something dodgy....the list won't fit. I have no hate towards Nigeria, I worked with many Nigerians here in Ghana and I generally had no problem with them (Except that they generally didn't trust anyone, something very unusual in Ghana, but I know where they were coming from and also they are always holding their phone chargers around thinking the lights would go off! But they were in Ghana). Ghana have it's own problems and we admit it and we are trying to overcome them but I hear from Nigerians like the one above and I would be forgiving to think Nigeria is Switzerland.
look ma friend, ur country owes ma country a great deal of thanks. That ur country still exist is a miracle. Nigeria will never ask Ghana for a thing and who told u that 70% of Nigerians are poor? Now thats the danger of a one sided story. Come and we'll tell u how far.

sharaaap.during our worst moments inthe 80s your contri suspended oil sales to Ghana and deported more than a million Ghanaians at the peak of our economic crisis under very humiliating circumstances, thinking that will break Ghana.infact the mass deportations happened twice-1983 n 85. we survived all of that n today we're much stronger n better. wicked people. Do you blame Ghanaians for reciprocating the gesture? You nigerians aint seen nothing yet.

Ghanaian Movies Banned In Nigeria Is A
False And Misleading Story – Segun Arinze
Over the weekend, there was an on-line story
purporting film producers and marketers in
Nigerian have decided to ban Ghanaian
movies in Nigeria.
Considering the wild nature of the story,
you’re most authoritative we decided to find
out the truth and not the fact as spread by
those websites. In a chit- chat with Segun
Arinze live this morning on
GhanaSuperStars.Com, the President of
Nigeria’s Actors Guild, he repudiated the story
with utmost crestfallen at such a sham
publication.
Segun Arinze hissed that Nigeria can never
and will never have any unfriendly rivalry with
Ghana. “We have created a very good
relationship with Ghanaians and nothing will
ever let us have a break up. The story is
absolutely bunkum!” – He said.
“My only advice to journalist is that they
should be very careful with the way they
spread false news since this statement they
have released about Nigerian banning
Ghanaian movies can cause state problems. I
plead on behalf of Nigerians that Ghanaians
shouldn’t take any statement of Ghana/
Nigeria rival serious until they hear it from
some of us” – he lamented to
GhanaSuperStars.Com
He added that they are busy working on
Nollywood at 20 and believes in enterprise so
banning Ghanaian movies in Nigeria will not
profit them in any sense but rather limit their
market scope. Folks, your most reliable
GhanaSuperStars.com have done the right
journalistic ethic for your consumption but
the puzzling questions that are crying for
answers are; where could this story be
coming from? Could be from the camp of film
producers in Ghana or Nigeria and what
reason (s) could that be? Share your thought.

SamAfrik: Though I prefer yoruba movies whenever I feel like watchin anytin Nigerian. But Im not unaware of d big contribution Nigeria is giving Ghana esp in movies & music. Any strain in relations wont be good 4 d latter. We need Cooperatn & Respect in W/Africa.

You made a good point.
In video films, Nigeria made a huge impact on Ghana, with their video shelves completely dominated by Nigerian films.
But in music, I disagree with you. The Ghanaians have been more original in music than Nigeria. Traditional Highlife music came to Nigeria from Ghana. Infact, the current fast afro rythmns currently dominating Nigerian music landscape/clubs came from Ghana, especially through Sound City's Music Africa which started airing in the early 20-00s. That was when Nigerians were exposed to the fast tempo dance-hall highlife beats which has been heavily adopted by most artistes including Flavour, Omawumi, Duncan Mighty, J-Martins,Timaya, PSquare, DBanj etc.
Right now, every music you hear has that background of Highlife/Kpalongo rhythmn.
But Nigerian musicians seem to have an edge over the Ghanaians musicians internationally because Nigerian musicians use in English/pidgin mostly while the Ghanaians use their indigenous languages mostly

Sorry, but this is LONG overdue!!!

First and foremost I want to make this very clear
- Both Nollywood and Ghallywood suck. They both churn out sub standard crap at an alarming rate. Most Ghallywood films are Nollywood knockoffs. The rest are sleazy Indecency's. Nothing more, nothing less. As for Nollywood... What a big joke. It should be renamed IGBOwood. The story lines are nonsensical (Blackberry Babes), the actors are crap, and on top of all that they ruin everything by attempting to speak with an American accent. It's embarrassing and cringe worthy at best. Yoruba films blow both of them out of the water If I'm being totally honest. They are informative and helpful. If I was a foreigner wanting to know more about parts of West African culture and how things are done on a day to day basis I'd rather watch Yoruba films. What foreigner wants to listen to some Igbo person faking an American accent? What foreigner wants to watch some B-grade Ghanaian Indecency? Sorry but Ghallywood and Nollywood both need to go back to the drawing board.

Now, as to why I think we did the right thing on banning Ghanaian movies in Nigeria!

I don't know what it is, I don't know how it came about, but there seems to be this guilt complex that we Nigerians have towards Ghanaian people. It's almost as if because of the "Get Ghana Out" movement and things that have happened in the past, we should allow the Ghanaians to repeatedly slap, spit and piss in our faces just to make up for what happened all those years ago. It's like in America they have this thing called "White Guilt". "White Guilt" is a complex that Whites have towards African Americans for all the bad things they did to the AAs in the past. It basically means AAs can do whatever they want to Whites but if Whites should do something back they are in the wrong. An African American could racially abuse a White man and nothing will come of it. However, the moment a White man racially abuses the African American they end up in a world of shit... Does that sound fair to you? No? Me neither undecided!!!

Why did I mention all that you ask? Because this is exactly what is happening between Nigeria and Ghana right now. It's as if Ghana is looking to hold Nigeria to emotional ransom for injustices of the past. A Ghanaian will scream and cry about a Nigerian all day long. As soon as a Nigerian does the same he's in the wrong. It's a guilt complex I tell you. We're basically being told that we have to be nice to Ghanaians and accept their slights at every turn just because we kicked them out all those years ago. How is that fair?

Ghana banning Nigerian movies was just another slap in the face we Nigerians were just EXPECTED to take. Never mind the fact we helped them out from the beginning. Never mind the fact we helped their "movie stars" blow up in Nigeria. Just forget all of that, because after all we had done for them in the past they still deemed it fit to ban our movies. What do these people expect from Nigeria? To then allow you to continue making money off of YOUR movies in OUR country? No chance!! You can't have your cake and eat it at the same time my Ghanaian friends. You can't say Bleep Nigeria than get upset and cry when Nigeria turns right around and says Bleep you back. It just doesn't work that way I'm afraid cool. It's either 50/50 or nothing. Don't just expect 70/30 because of past events wink.

One last thing before I leave - If you hate Chinese people and and detest Chinese food, would you then go to a Chinese restaurant to eat? I ask this because It seems as if the Ghanaians that harbor the most resentment towards Nigeria and her people always seem to find themselves on Nigerian websites ! Does that make any sense? I don't hate or dislike Ghanaians but you would NEVER find me on a Ghanaian website. ESPECIALLY if I hated them. The truth is I barely think about Ghana if football isn't involved. I just wonder why the "woe is me" Ghanaian type always find their way to Nairaland. Why don't they stick to the many Ghanaian websites out there? I don't mind the good/decent Ghanaians that don't come here ranting and raving like lunatics about the past.I don't mind them at all, they are the type that make me feel proud to have Ghana as a brother country. It's just the crybaby loudmouths I cant stand. Their pettiness and insecurity becomes irritating after a while lipsrsealed.

The ban on Ghanaian movies being sold should be lifted the day Ghana lifts the ban on Naija movies being sold in their country. Don't expect Nigeria to kiss your ass!! For all the problems Nigeria is facing we wouldn't suffer if we cut ties with Ghana. Can Ghana honestly say the same thing?

Abeg sharaap there!!! To all of you saying your actors and actresses are not faking accent, keep deceiving yourself. An average Ghanaian speaking in Ghanaian accent sucks!

And even upon all the fakings they do, I can't help but notice some ridiculous pronunciation like;

*pronouncing HER as EH.
* doctor as dokta
*shut up as shat ap
*sir as ser

And so much more that I can't even remember.
But actresses like Yvonne okoro recently tries to correct her self especially when she is in a Nollywood movie.

Again maybe your government should put more into your education cos not only your pronunciation is ridiculously funny, so also is your sentence construction;

A typical example is this mistake almost all Ghanaian actors/resses make (Yvonne Okoro recently stopped it again).

* if they want to say for example 'you haven't done anything' or another way which is 'You have done nothing', they will rather say 'you haven't done nothing'. Excuse me, what da heck does that mean? no matter how you try to twist your tongue, I will still notice those silly ERRORS!

P.S: I later got to know Yvonne Okoro studied English Language, may be that's why she's corrected those errors in her speech.

Drock4christ: SPECULATIONS are rife that the once harmonious relationship between the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood and its counterpart, Ghana’s Ghollywood,is currently under threat as the movie marketers under the aegis of Film, Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (FVPMAN) has placed embargo on Ghanaian films with effect from the end of this month.

The association has also resolved to halt the distribution of films produced by non-professionals. It insists that if such film(s) must be distributed at all, its right of ownership should be transferred to its members on negotiation.

*Nollywood films on display

The FVPMAN chairman, Onitsha branch, Mr. Uzo Godson Nwosu who confirmed this development to HVP, said this position was taken after the association’s general meeting last weekend in Onitsha.

According to him, the decision became necessary following the position taken by their Ghanaian counterparts who have banned the distribution of Nigerian films in their country long time ago.

His words, “starting from the first week of August, no Ghanaian film will be allowed to enter the Nigerian market again. We have resolved that no Ghanaian film will be distributed within our controlled market. Our Ghanaian counterparts have long stopped distributing our films in their country, and given this development, we have no choice than to reciprocate the gesture.” FVPMAN boss stated.

Nwosu who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Guinks Investment said any of their members who failed to compile with this new order will either be prosecuted or have his goods confiscated by the association.

The marketer said the association is finalising plans to storm Ghana any moment from now, particularly to confront those local television stations who are illegally airing Nigerian films without obtaining permission from the right owners.

Also, given the problem associated with “second tier market”(where a producer is compelled to observe a three-month grace before releasing his film into the market in a large quality), Nwosu said the association has decided to reversed the trend.

Film owners, according to him, are now free to release their films into the market without necessarily observing the mandatory three months grace before doing so.

They will also be required to obtain censors’ board and copy right commission’s documents in addition to registering the film with the sum of N10,000 with the FVPMAN.

“In order to move the association forward, we have resolved to address the problem of second tier market.” FVPMAN boss further stated.

So true

Stacey Banks: 50% of ghanaian movies are sold in ghana. 37% in Nigeria and 13% goes to Togo,Benin,Bissau.

13% of Nigerian movies are sold in Barbados. 7% in the U.K. 2% in the U.S. 9% in S.A. 41% in Ghana. 2% in Malawi. 3% in Kenya. 18% in Nigeria. 2% in Germany. 1% in Cote'D'voire. 1% in Togo. 1% Zambia.
Oya oya compare the two industries.

@the bolded, even their quality cannot stand nollywood movies except you are comparing them with roadside productions. You need to watch premiered movies such as Ije: the journey, Tango with me, kiss and tell, figurine, silent scandal, the return of Jennifer etc...... then give me feedback. wink

Yea, its true... Nollywood movies are watched at those places, infact places like UK and some other african countries he stated; I have reasons to believe the percentage is higher. There are more countries who watch nigerian movies like The Zambia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Jamaica etc. at a reasonable amount.
This might convince you a bit: https://www.nairaland.com/960109/tango-me-hit-cinemas-uk

If nigerians like to speak down on what is theirs, don't be surprised at others Appreciating it. wink

I should have clarified what I was comparing the ghollywood quality movies with because you are right, if it is compared to roadside nollywood movies, ghollywood beats them when it comes to quality but when it is premiered nollywood movies, ghollywood doesn't stand a chance so I agree with you and know about that, no argument there
