Please, I am waiting for christians to explain this new testament verse;

1 Corinthians 14;34

You claim you were a hardcore Christian for twenty-two years. What did the verse mean to you in those decades? Explain!

Go by what is in the bible, women should not be allowed to preach or lead any service in church. Its against the scriptures. If they must participate, it should be through their husband. May God increase us in knowledge.

The Mesage was meant for the Corintian women who believed to be more Than there Husband. The were proud, heartened and thought the were equal or supirior. That was why ApOSTle Paul was giving them His personal openion to corintian Women and duty. GO AND READ BIBLE HISTORY BASIS. Thanks to other pastor around here

Another reason why the bible should not be taken so literal Paul has already indicated that women can pray and prophesy in church (chapter 11), and a worship service includes two or three people prophesying in turn (14:29-32). This means that it is permissible for women to have formal speaking roles in the church. Paul was apparently forbidding some other type of speech. Just as he did not allow tongue-speakers or prophets to speak out of turn, he did not want women to speak out of turn, saying things in such a way that they were breaking social customs about what is appropriate.

Because christianity is fragmented.....catholics dont like women bishops or popes. Anglicans have women priests etc

Crap! Crap! Now stuff that fundamentalist crap where the sun don't shine. Jeez! What is wrong with you Africans? So because one chauvinist got his scripts included in the Bible, women should become invisible. Even the white man who brought his religion to you enjoys his hordes of female preachers. So what did the Bible say again? undecided

Even if what you say is true, telling women to be silent in church is still foolish and not the solution. Epic fail#

Where did you get your explanation from?I will believe you are not twisting the bible when you learn to spell simple words in English:

Its really easy to blow that verse out of proportion because it is very in your face and precise, like i stated earlier and the other guy there was something much more to it. First he was addressing the women of the church in corinth, not ALL women. Secondly they were doing something wrong at the time. Most likely misbehaving and he letting them specifically know what they should do

Paul clearly said that women should be silent in church. He never said "silent in some cases". Your verses do not support your point. Try again

Do not bear false witness against the Corinthian women. Back up your statements.

The verse is not blown out of proportion. Telling women to be silent in church is not right in any scenario.

So answer me this, why would paul in chapter 11 say women should be free to speak and church then turn back and say they should be silent?

It means in a congregation a woman shuldnt take d lead where men are....

hierarchy of headship demands that......

Women can't be overseers, heading congregation assignments....those responsibilities are meant for d men.....

In 1timothy 2:11-13 paul gives d reason why.....

11 A woman[a] should learn in quietness and full
submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to
teach or to assume authority over a man;[b]
she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed
first, then Eve...

That is Gods arrangement......

Even if what you say is true; sexism in the form of censorship is not the answer to unruly women.

Where is your proof for this accusation of the Corinthian women?

And why is that? Is it because they are less humans...like subhumans? This is a very misogynistic comment to make and is very insulting to all human beings, talk less of women.

Read the first 2 responses this post got, thats just what it needed. I'm suprised that people are responding to logicboy, a confused atheist who pulls up bible verses to make fun of it. And as usual, since nairaland is run by atheist and muslims, it makes frontpage, just to add more fun to it.
Dont respond to an atheist whose aim is to make fun of the holy book. Do not be equally yoked with unbelievers, thus says the bible.
I'm out!

By mistake i said chapter 11, i meant chapter 12, let me end this. People tend to overlook a key important passage after chapter 11. When Paul was talking about spiritual gifts one of which is verse 8
8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; and and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another {various} kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.

Paul is basically stating that we ALL, Men and Women and people of all races can receive these gifts of God, one of which is prophecy, which once again askes the question why would paul say women should remain silent? when he is stating that they can receive the gift of prophesy It once again only proves that he was speicfially addressing the women of the church of corinth who were doing something wrong

Interesting analysis.

Thank you for this part "...giving them his personal opinion". At least we all know opinions can be disregarded.
