The owner of an Italian firm,
Gitto Construzioni General
which donated church
building to President
Goodluck Jonathan’s
community, Otuoke in
Bayelsa State, Domenico
Gitto, has died yesterday in
Abuja.
Daily Trust was told
yesterday that Gitto was at
the Ministry of Niger Delta to
see the Minister of Niger
Affairs Elder Goodsday
Orubebe when he collapsed
and died.
But a reliable source from
the ministry, who pleaded for
anonymity, confirmed that
the deceased was at the
ministry but did not die
there.
“I was around when he came
to the ministry. He did not
die at the ministry but was
taken to the hospital where
he died,” the source said.
Sources close to the Italian
businessman, however, said
he has been troubled for
sometime owing to the huge
debt piled up by his company
in Nigerian banks.
“The company has been
having legal battles with
some Nigerian banks over
failed debts it owes,” a
source said.
Union Bank, said to be the
largest creditor of Gitto, is
allegedly owed N10 billion
and is reported to have
seized some of the
company’s construction
equipment.
Gitto is also said to owe
Diamond Bank N6 billion and
the bank had reportedly sued
Gitto.
FCMB had also written to the
Federal Ministry of Works
asking that all money to be
paid to Gitto by the ministry
be paid to the bank,
amounting to over N5billion.
It is not clear if Gitto agreed
to build the church edifice in
order to seek for favours
from Jonathan and probably

He was trying to use the donation to gain express permission from GEJ to enter into the Nigerian treasury looting caucus, and God was angry, and said, "My son, today your soul is demanded of you. You shall not enjoy the fruit of your evil ploy". And the guy just kaput. Nonsense.
