And the pace of building developments in some parts of Enugu will blow you away. This is the Loma Linda area of Ugwuaji road, about 5 years ago, no houses were here, only forest. I was offered plots here for 600k back then, but now, you cannot get any plot here for 15m. There is a scramble for lands now in Enugu.

They only problem I see is that the government is not playing their part quickly enough by tarring the street roads in the new layouts...If the roads are tarred, more people will move in do develop their properties.

there's a road that connects Nenwe and Ndeaboh , he awarded it apart from the nenwe - oduma road awarded by ike ekweremadu, he is also building schools in nenwe, we have not had it better than now besides where did you go in nenwe.

A lot of roads had been awarded in the past and were never done. Chimaroke awarded the Nara -Nomeh road twice but it was never built. So, until they get equipment down to the site like Ike Ekweremmadu did at Nenwe junction, the governor may be pulling your legs. Which schools did he build in Nenwe? I was in Uhueze, Emudo and around Onwe village. The primary school I saw on the road does not look like any work was done there.

Exactly. Erosion is eating up that road.

US Firm to Build 300MW Solar Plant in Enugu
August 4, 2016

Christopher Isiguzo in Enugu

A US-based renewable energy power firm, Motir DuSable Power Investment Limited, is to build 300MW solar plant in Enugu State. The first phase of the project, estimated at about $200million will inject 100mega watts of power into the national grid, which will subsequently be increased to 200MW in the second phase.

The drivers of the project which is a joint venture between two
US-based power firms have already signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Federal Government of Nigeria to site the project in Enugu State with the goal of making the state the hub for renewable energy generation in sub-Sahara Africa.

The chairman of the firm, Mr. Emmanuel Irono, on Tuesday, made a presentation of the company’s planned take-off of the project during a performance review retreat of the Enugu State Executive Council holding at Nike Lake hotel, with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in attendance.
According to Irono, chairman of Motir DuSable Power Investment Limited, “We have a joint venture that would enable us to bring this project to Nigeria and we are licensed and have gone through all the processes and procedure in terms of the power purchasing. Also, we have an alliance that can help us go through the various segments necessary for this project to be successful.”

“So, today is the first day that we are meeting with the governor and his executive council members right here in Enugu and we are very pleased that it turned out a positive meeting”, he explained.

He further stated that the project comes in phases, adding that the first phase will cost about $200m while another phase that will come thereafter would also cost 200m dollars. “Depending on the capacity we can do as they allow us but our partners are willing to consummate the project.”

On the gains of the gigantic project, he said: “Our intention is to be able to bring more jobs, more opportunities, more innovations to Enugu State and to Nigeria. We believe that this will be a fantastic project for job creation and a mission critical for the Federal Government of Nigeria and Enugu State.

“This is because we can empower Enugu State people to have access to power. If everybody wins, it becomes a win-win situation for all of us.

“The state will be a collaborating partner in terms of making sure that our investment is safe and that the money we are bringing in is safe. They are not a financial partner. So the money we are bringing in is hundred percent to enable us fund this project.”

Commending the governor for his warm reception and frankness, he said the fact that the governor invited them to the open floor to talk about the project was ‘simply amazing’, noting that this was despite having not met him before.

Speaking earlier while declaring the 3-day performance retreat for members of Enugu State Executive Council open, Governor Ugwuanyi commended the development partners in the state for their successful contribution towards the actualisation of his administration’s reform agenda.

The governor noted that the retreat was in line with his pledge made during his inaugural speech in 2015 to give the people a new lease of life with regard to good governance, enhanced social services, rural development, improved security, justice, among others.

I wonder why you equate non viability of routes to luxury buses not plying them. It's not like people are using bicycles as a mode of transport within these cities. It's buses that still convey people, albeit smaller buses. If it wasn't viable, no buses will ply those routes in the first place.

Btw, my argument has never been about Oyibo people investing in building rail systems in the SE. My thoughts are just that the South east cities need to be connected for the free movement of commodities within the region.
your argument is Illogical, why don't we have Enugu-Owerri Flight? or PH-Uyo? Do people not move between these cities? It is because of non viability of the routes for commercial flight operators. Secondly, we need rail, with which money? why waste time on empty dreams? only FG has the financial muscle to execute such project and private financier will not invest a kobo in it because it is not viable

If it is not viable, is it the ghost airport in Enugu state that is viable?

Chinese are financing and developing Anambra aerotropolis, whether you believe it or not the airport will be the most viable and busiest airport after Abuja and Lagos on completion.

This data only confirmed that the Enugu state airport is practically dead and unviable. No one uses the airport, no wonder the cargo receipts is the lowest across Nigeria.
who is dis dumb ass.s nigga? You are seeing an airport that beat abuja and kano in cargo departure in one year and you are here talking about anambra china airport that exist in their dreams. can we see pictures of constructions please? Let anambra sign the imaginary railway to connect their villages and remove Enugu lets wait and see how china will waste their hard earned money on useless village projects. By the way how far with your Chinese consulate?

a luxury bus cost 120m Naira.this days hummer buses are even being used to ply those locations. I guess the fact that luxury vehicles don't go from Lagos and stop at ogun state , means that route is "unviable to luxurious buses level of Transport business."
of course, lagos ogun is a totally unvible route for luxurious bus operator that is why there is none plying it

Ambode seeks Nigerian govt’s permission for 3000MW project to power Lagos

www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/239278-ambode-seeks-nigerian-govts-permission-3000mw-project-power-lagos.html

This is the type of project we expect the state governor to embark on. As far as I am concerned Ugwuanyi and all the southeast governors are dumb.
Both you and Ambode are the dumb ones, how does Ambode plan to get Eko and Ikeja distribution to surrender their distribution areas to him, despite having earlier agreement to extract Aba from Enugu disco, Geometric still ran into trouble with the person that purchased Enugu disco so how do you think Ambode will take over privately owned Eko and Ikeja discos? If ambode generate anything it goes to the national grid, what makes him different? Did RIvers and Akwa Ibom not run into same trouble? Despite PH distribution being bought by the state governments which they are part of, still they can't transmit locally because FG controls transmission and everything is shared in Oshogbo by qouta which they lose out greatly. Enugu does not have money to waste abeg. You can see from the news above that the investor for the ENugu solar power said that they have concluded plans for power purchase so it will be sold to discos through the national grid, any other person hoping otherwise is a dreamer except Geometric who had prior agreement with FG but he must buy it back from EEDC

ON a thread concerning the approval, someone suggested more routes through SE which makes more sense (number 1, 7 and 8 ) and not the village to village route some people are advocating while waiting for China to dash them money.

Ugwuanyi: We’re partnering China to make Enugu trading hub
— 18th August 2017
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has reiterated his administration’s vision to make the state the economic and industrial hub of the South-East region and a preferred investment destination in the country.

The governor spoke when the ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), Mr. Zhou Pingjian, paid a courtesy visit to Government House, Enugu.

He noted that the state government was working to engage new development partners and attract more direct foreign investments to actualise the dream.

According to him, the visit offers the state and PRC, an ample opportunity to build stronger ties and establish a more beneficial working relationship. He added that his administration is keen on sharing ideas and partnering the Chinese Embassy on ways to boost trade and improve economic relations between the Asian country and Enugu State.

“We are particularly interested in making Enugu the centre for Chinese manufactured goods in Nigeria,” Governor Ugwuanyi told the envoy and his team. We are consequently, making necessary and unrelenting efforts to sustain the business-friendly environment that already exists in the state especially through continuous investments in security, infrastructural development, environmental improvement, expansion and regularisation of social services.

“We also have about 17 potentially lucrative state-owned companies and industries dealing in diverse areas of business and production that have been listed for commercialisation or privatisation,” he said.

Ugwuanyi told the team that the state is endowed with natural and human resources that offer abundant investment opportunities. The governor also said the presence of an international passenger and cargo airport and the location of a Free Trade Zone in Enugu as well as the urbanisation initiatives of the government, provide a further boost to economic potentials and profile of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, Mr. Zhou said it’s gratifying that Nigeria and China have a long diplomatic history, stressing the need to build on such history to mutually benefit both countries.

The envoy also noted that China was eager to make greater investments in Enugu, given the huge potential that abounds in the state, plus its importance in the South-East region, which, according to him, is home to virtually all business owners who trade with Chinese companies.

“One of my jobs has been to receive potential investors pouring into Nigeria, to share my observations with them and to encourage them to invest here,” he said, praising Ugwuanyi for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Iran seeks business ties with Enugu govt
ON AUGUST 2, 20173:43
ENUGU—The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Morteza Rahimi Zarchi, has disclosed the willingness of the Asian country to establish general bilateral business relationship with the Enugu State Government, especially in the area of rendering medical services. VISIT: Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State (middle); Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Morteza Rahimi Zarchi (right) and his Deputy, S. A Mortazavi, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Enugu, yesterday. Ambassador Zarchi, who spoke at the Government House, Enugu, when he paid a courtesy call on the governor, in company with the management of FIT Consult Limited, stated that his delegation were in Enugu on a feasibility study of establishing an Iranian hospital, modelled after the one in Dubai, at the ongoing Heliu Residences project in Enugu as well as general bilateral cooperation with the state government. The Iranian Ambassador said his country’s decision to seek bilateral cooperation with Enugu State Government was because of the state’s historical background, its natural resources, the geographical location, which he said links other neighbouring states, the international airport as well as the existing peace in the state. He added that there are many Iranian companies into drugs manufacturing, especially herbal medicines, which are very useful in treating diabetes and other diseases, revealing that they are willing to bring the drugs to Nigeria or even import the raw materials into the country for final production. While expressing delight at the interest shown by Iran in establishing a world class medical facility in the Heliu Estate under the International brand name, Iranian Hospital, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi disclosed that “there are many other areas of potential partnership and cooperation between your country and Enugu State, cutting across various sectors of the economy. “As Your Excellency may know, the state is richly endowed with copious investment opportunities, especially in agriculture and agro-allied enterprises and in the extraction and processing of such minerals as coal, limestone, clay, oil, gas etc all of which are found in very abundant quantities in the state. “The presence of an international (passenger and cargo) airport and the establishment of a Free Trade Zone in Enugu as well as the urbanisation initiatives of the government, provide a further boost to the economic potentials and profile of the state. “We, therefore, seek the assistance of your embassy to enlighten business organisations in Iran as to these opportunities and to also facilitate their entry into Enugu State as investors.”

Enugu, FG partner South African firm to revive coal industry
By Samson Ezea | 03 June 2017 | 4:41 am
South African investors, Simang Group, working with the Federal and Enugu State Government, have begun moves to revive the coal industry in Enugu.

The investors, led by Dr. Basil Enwegbara of the Pan Africa Group and Stephen Paddy, Chairman of Simang Group, during a visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, yesterday, hinted that the principal objective of the investment drive was to use coal to generate electricity and then spin a chain of allied business activities for the benefit of the people of the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole.

Ugwuanyi told the investors: ìWe have always been hopeful that coal will once again play a major role in the economic development of the country.

Our opportunity to actualise the dream has come. This meeting offers Enugu State Government the opportunity to establish a relationship with the Simang Group.î

Speaking on behalf of the investors, Enwegbara, who is the Executive Vice Chairman of Pan African Development Corporation, assured that their intervention would certainly change the narrative of electric power generation in Nigeria, especially in the Southeast.

Paddy, on his part, told the governor: ìFrom the South African perspective, I am interested to make sure that I facilitate trade and investment, when there is need for Nigerians to use their natural resources to curtail the challenges that the country is facing to make sure that the economic development within the country is achieved.î

Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said he was just a messenger there to deliver a message from President Muhammadu Buhari, who directed him to tell Ndigbo that he has commenced the first phase of the promise to revamp Enugu coal to generate electricity and employment.

He said after a careful evaluation of all the companies that indicated interest by the minister of Mines and Steel Development, Simang group was chosen to partner with Federal and Enugu State Governments to revamp Enugu coal.

Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by igwebuike01: 3:42am On Sep 01, 2017
for the news above regarding coal, it must be noted that Enugu will only benefit through taxation on coal mining not on the power generated since the South Africans will transmit for sharing and sell to DISCOS, that how it is for now, until it changes. Secondly, Ugwuanyi tasked Fayemi to revoke license granted to clueless Nigerian companies for coal mining in Enugu or to return the power to award it to the states. THe structure of Nigeria at the moment makes impossible for the state to award mining license so the best bet if for states to get involved in other to influence the selection of competent firm.
