Okorocha Declares War On Kidnappers In Imo by newspapers: 1:56pm On Jul 02, 2012
Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has declared war on kidnappers and other criminals in the state, saying “it is now fire for fire.”

Okorocha, who spoke against the backdrop of continued cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in the state, warned unrepentant kidnappers, “henceforth it will be fire for fire.”

According to him, “I want to state that one of the challenges we have had as a state has been insecurity, especially kidnapping. The time is up for the kidnappers.”

He assured the citizenry that “there will be no more kidnapping anywhere again in the state because we have taken the necessary measures to curb the menace. Now, we have resolved to march fire for fire.”

Okorocha lamented that his appeals to kidnappers and armed robbers to repent from their criminal activities and engage in meaningful activities fell on deaf ears.

It will be recalled that Imo State had been under siege, especially from the beginning of this year and despite the huge monetary reward of N1 million announced by the state government for any person that gives credible information that would lead to the arrest of kidnappers and armed robbers.

Ok o, what I see is empty threats.

Mr Gov, you spoke well as a concerned governor, but you did not identify how you will match them fire for fire. I'm not asking that you discuss strategies in public, but at least, you can highlight what your security agenda are. I was expecting the article to say something achievable such as, improved training tactics, improved security systems, et al... Anyway, good talk grin grin grin but the imitative is found wanting.

Dear Gov. Rochas,

You want to fight kidnappers? Start by adjusting our weak and archaic civil and criminal laws. Some tips:

1). Automatic sentence for kidnappers to life imprisonment with extremely hard labour - without possibility of parole or clemency.
2). As part of the hard labour, each kidnapper should be made to do money-generating task in the prison (crushing granite, making blocks, tailoring, roasting corn, carpentry, etc).
3). From the proceeds of the hard labour, 70% will be used for life-time compensation of kidnapped victims. Imo state can hang on to the remaining 30%.

The message being that if you kidnap someone, you will spend the rest of your life in prison, in servitude to that person and his family.

That is how you deal with these menaces to society. Get tough and get creative with the laws!

Why should he tell you of the details? Are you his commisioner of police? Why didn't you ask Obama why did't he tell the American people and perhaps YOU of his plans to voilate Pakistan's airspace to kill Osama eeh?

Atleast he has the guts to speak out. What are other Eastern governors like Peter Obi, Orji, Chime doing to curb the menance in their home turf, instead they are crying at the senate for the FG to intervene.

Instead of give him the moral support regardless, you wants details in another planet. LOL.

@OP

The recent upsure in these activities shows that there is an evil force behind the scene within or outside trying to undermine Rochas's efforts in bringing about fundamental change to IMO and credibility to APGA.

Gov Rochas, ride on. We imolites are solidly behind you. I visited recently and very proud of the immense transformation going on including the gas project awarded and the Jesuit university plans amongst others.

Haters should go and hug a transformer

Imo must be better. Long live the rescue mission. Ahu ahu ahu.

Ok, I see people are not reading my post, where in my post did I say he should discuss his details? undecided undecided undecided

Why are you comparing Obama that oversees 300 million + citizens, more than half a million service members to Okorocha who oversees a states that's not even the size of VA? So please, when you want to do the comparison, START out with similar state like DC or VA. Now moving on,

Perfect example, when the DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier under the mayor discussed her security agenda for the city, to curb increased crime rate including murder she clearly stated, what her agenda was. If I recall very carefully when I read it, these were her short term goals

1. We're improving the training of officers particularly first responders.

2. Increased patrol of officers in hot crime areas. In addition to that, improved guidelines on how to identify and deter crime. In addition to that, the district improved and upgraded their systems including patrol vehicles.

2. Setting up a "SPECIAL" emergency response team that act really quickly and FAST. In addition to that, they are expanding their recruiting exercises.

3. Improve the "snitiching program", you know what I mean.

What does this mean? She stated her agenda, everyone knew about it, but did she go into details about her program? Answer is NO. Do she discuss that officers cross train with Homeland Security and FBI agents? NO, she did not because she did not state but she emphasized about improved training, you get the idea right?. I hope you get the idea. State your agenda and leave the details.

BTW, please stop acting like this and making Pakistan as an example, you're better than this. That was a classified mission that ONLY A FEW KEY PEOPLE in the president's cabinet knew. The president has highlighted through his administrative agencies security agenda or should I say "focal point" for the nation. For instance, Homeland security, once every year, review and publish their agenda for instance for airports and customs. One of their agenda may include, improving or upgrading high tech systems at airports (which they have published), increased training on TSA agents. Read up on the Washington Post, Secretary of Defense has often spoken about their agenda but they do NOT divulge details.

Even when former IG Onovo relocated his office to kidnapping hot-spots of Abia/Imo states, he couldn't stop it until he lost his top-cop job. The danger for Ndigbo, if the kidnappings continue is self annihilation. Okorocha may try his best, but the masquerade is already dancing naked in village square! Only strong wise men can tame such a masquerade.

@Manny4life

Since he came into office, he provided more police vans and some other things that are required to ensure better security.

You make a fine list. But you know what, the way things work over there is different from the way they work here. Maybe it is part of his strategy not to beat around the bush by listing agendas. Even before him making this statement, security has been beefed up and community meetings have started, That is what i call a man of action. Even if he were ruling a village of 10 people and Obama is ruling the "world", it all involves leadership and decision making. Besides Obama have all the US marshals, FBI's, CIA's, NYPD'S, LAPD's and other PD's with countless Sheriffs amongst others, yet they are still struggling to curb mammoth crime and senseless inner city shootings that goes on there. American practices true federalism, so he doesn't neccessarily have say over all affairs of "300 million".

In the early 20th century up to mid 20th century when Mafians the likes of Al Capone, Sam Gacianna, The Big Tuna, and so on terrorized America and Americans alike and infiltrated their government and security agencies. When these agencies were making "agenda's" and even struggling to define the word "mafia" and arguing of their existence, Robert Kennedy, then attorney general said to them, "don't just define it, do something about it".

We may have another osisikankwu on the horizon. So if this mission is CLASSIFIED to get rid of our own version of Osama, then so be it. What we imolites need is RESULTS or else if the menace continue, we will show him the Ohakim lane. That is the essence of a democratic society.

We always forget that one of the core things in bringing change and treating a cancer rampaging the cells of a society is POLITICAL WILL. A doctor normally tells cancer patients that , "you must believe and have faith that you will survive this. That is when the healing process starts.

It seems one of the main reasons terrorist elude America for a LONG time with all their gadgets, big guns and "smart toys" and what not may be because they spend a lot of time listing agenda's. LOL
