I studied economics in my undergrad level bt i wana pursue an MSc in Statistics. I learnt they offer two options: mathematical statistics and applied statistics and that the later is for those with low mathematical sophistication with degrees in economics and the likes while the later requires mathematical sophistication...

However I'd love to do the mathematical statistics option. Is there any opportunity for me to do mathematical statistics in place of applied statistics if i can prove my mettle?

hmm. see my boss wan come chop statistics , anyway ..welcome to ma domain sir ...MaThEmAtIcAl statistics with OR . though (cool u know ) . trust you wont regret it sir , ..though am not in OAU ... given you are mathematically grounded ..you could opt for the former , in fact both ain't bad ...but i tell you ...dia lots advanced complexities & sophistications in the former , jobs opportunities almost limitless ..
