Hi dudes, before i got married which i have never regretted, i have had the opportunity of interacting with a couple of my colleagues(eligible bachelors)at my workplace who have always maintain that it is better to live a comfortable life with a posh car to go with it than getting married and settling down. To them, marriage is a capital expenditure that needed enough time and cash to enter into and as such, they have always have the notion that maintaining a home(A Wife and Children)is more expensive to maintaining a car.I have come to realise that apart from having to fuel their cars, most times they keep complaining of gearing problem, engine problem, the need to service their cars,battery problem, unbudgeted expenses as a result of a unexpected problems with their car that needed to be fix etc. . I would appreciate mature and robust contribution on this burning issue: "A Wife or a Car: Which is more expensive to maintain?

the sad problem is that, with most people, if your car gives you too much trouble, you just get rid of it and get a new one.......sadly many married men cannot do the same with their wifey (as soon as there are children involved)

I service my car every 17th and it alerts me on d 16th wit a special nortification on my dashboard maybe till it generates some other faults wich hardly happens
But for girlfriends - today hair money, clothes, rent, school fees, pad or tampoon, ice cream, suya, daily

Depends on the wife.If you have a working class wife that earns good pay,then she will be more expensive to maintain than a car but if your wife is a housewife,then she will be more expensive to maintain.

The day you start describing your wife in monetary terms is the day you start losing it.
You can't quantify emotions and convert them into monetary value.
The day you start seeing her as an expenditure/liability signals the beginning of trouble.

You can't place human and non human things on the same scale and expect a fair judgement.

To be fair you should have compared a mistress with some girlfriend. Both are human.

There is no basis for this comparison. Your wife is your other half, (remember that the two (you and your wife) shall become one) your companion and the two of you have become one while your car is just a luxury, so why compare a car with your wife? Having a bad wife is as troublesome as having a bad car but they both play different roles in a man's home and the wife is surely you.

I don't think a wife will be that expensive unless of course she's just a housewife and does nothing to bring income back home. An independent woman does not really require much money to maintain and many Nigerians want their wives to remain at home and take care of their kids = housewife... My thinking tho

I totally agree wit you. These colleagues of my in question have come to realize how difficult it is to save for marriage as their is always a fault to fix at every point in time in their cars, coupled with the fact that driving a big car gives their relatives, friends and well wishers the impression that they are bust up which in reality is not the case.Their is also the problem of choosing a life partner as according to them most prospective spinsters out there are after their money because of their perceived social status.

You can decide to simple learn fro 1st hand experience. Invest ur money on your car and neglect your wife and children. In approx 20 to 30 years then you will know if you made the right or wrong choice.
