These 2 guys were probably double crossed by the IBB and Obasanjo crime partnership

Dimka was executed 1976 by Obasanjo (IBB play a role)

AlMustapha has been sentence to death after being imprisoned in 1999 by Obasanjo (IBB played role)

Please discuss.

OBJ and Dimka's coup

"Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers, but to be fearless in facing them. Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain, but the heart to conquer it." - Rabindranath Tagore

Before last weekend, among the few definitive things Nigerians knew about the abortive military coup of February 13, 1976, beyond the fact that the leader of the operation, Lt. Colonel Bukar Suka Dimka reeked of alcohol, was that the man who benefited most from the attempted purge, and the misfortune of their many victims, General Olusegun Obasanjo, now also a self-professed disciple of Lamidi Adedibu, was in hiding at the Ikoyi residence of his friend, Chief S. B. Bakare, up until the crucial moments normalcy was restored by loyal troops with far greater moral fibre, and, well, courage in the face of clear and present danger to their lives.

In the British military, lack of moral fibre of the type exhibited by Olusegun Obasanjo, when he cringed with fear in Bakares mansion at the time Dimka and his group struck, is the polite synonym of calling a soldier a coward, particularly if they also lacked the courage to engage the enemy in combat or flee in the face of fire. If we examine the matter even further, it becomes evident that what Obasanjo did on that fateful day on February 13, 1976, when his junior colleagues in the military junta at the time like General T. Y. Danjuma mobilized to crush the coup from Bonny Camp, was a clear case of desertion! Obasanjo, the number two man in government, second only to the slain General Murtala Mohammed, was never part of the emergency War Council under the command of General Danjuma, which also included Colonels Domkat Bali and Ibrahim Babangida. He remained holed up like a rat in the residence of his friend for the entire duration of the fire-fight until the capital was fleeced of disloyal troops!

Now, even discounting what we already know about its consequences many consequences in the military, desertion, according to the Thomson and Gale Law Encyclopaedia, is "the act by which a person abandons and forsakes, without justification, a condition of public, social, or family life, renouncing its responsibilities and evading its duties. A wilful abandonment of an employment, or duty, in violation of a legal or moral obligation."

Therefore, unless I got my English mixed up somewhere, or except Obasanjo also lied in his memoirs in which he duly confirmed that he fled to Bakares house in fear for his life, what he did amounted to desertion of both his responsibilities first, to the Nigerian Army as a soldier, and a full Lt-General, and second, to the Nigerian state as the first among equals in the political hierarchy as the Chief of state in the Supreme Military Council [SMC] who was duly sworn-in at the time.

All through military history, soldiers without moral fibre, and confirmed deserters have always been candidates for a court-martial at best, and a prompt execution at worst. In those tense, heated moments of February 13, 1976, the Nigerian military, perhaps overcome by the emotions and uncertainties of the times, failed to subject Lt.General Olusegun Obasanjo to the serious inquest or court martial his undoubted treachery deserved and instead chose to reward him with the leadership of this much traumatized nation straight from the closet of Chief Bakare. The nation is still counting the consequences of our collective inaction till today.

Much has already been written about Obasanjos catastrophic presidency between 1999 and 2007, in which legal subterfuge, in flagrant violation of due process and the conduct of state affairs became the norm rather than the exception; the serial abuse and wholesome corruption of the electoral processes and the sanctity of the vote, not to mention unbridled corruption which he promoted while pretending to fight it; but it was in the shocking revelation by General Yakubu Gowon that he was framed by Obasanjo in the Dimka coup that Nigerians, with the benefit of hindsight, must now be justified for regretting that Abacha did not execute Obasanjo when he was also convicted for coup plotting.

Rejecting claims in the media that he was pardoned for his involvement in the Dimka coup through his solicitor last week, Gowon clarified that he was never convicted for the offence in the first place, an undisputed fact since there is no evidence to suggest he was ever tried for the offence or even convicted in absentia. But more significantly, he alleged that he was set-up for the kill by the then Head of state Olusegun Obasanjo, who insisted that he must be included among the list of suspects following a directive to the trio of Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, late Maj-Gen Shehu Musa YarAdua, Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Theophilus Danjuma and Secretary to the Government of the Federation at the time Chief Allison Ayida. Gowon was subsequently declared wanted by the Obasanjo regime.

What makes Gowons allegation so potent and so hugely significant, is that he named two individuals who are still alive and should know in the persons of retired General T. Y. Danjuma and one time super Permanent Secretary Allison Ayida. However, while Danjuma could not be reached for his comments, Ayida has already confirmed the claim according to the same ThisDay exclusive which carried the story last Sunday.

Worst still, Ayida also confirmed the allegation as already documented in his published memoirs Reflections on Nigerian Development as follows: "We can take two examples of the dilemma one faces as an ex-public officer. When the Late General Murtala Mohammed was assassinated, it was necessary for the surviving members of his administration to find scapegoats quickly to avoid a backlash. So it was decided that General Gowons name should be linked with the abortive coup plan. Colonel Dimka, the main actor, was caught later and his published tape recorded statement had to be edited, Nixon style, to implicate General Gowon in exile and conveniently out of reach. The matter should be regarded as subjudice. The allusion is to illustrate the dilemma an insider faces in reviewing the background of the major events in this period."

If I ever get to meet Chief Ayida face to face, I will tell him in no uncertain terms that if I were in his position at the time, I would have resigned my position in the government rather than to be used to indict an innocent man over such a weighty affair. But that is not even the issue here. What we cannot deny from Gowons bombshell is the fact that many innocent soldiers and civilians alike may also have suffered a similar fate and are no longer around to tell their story all because of the need for Obasanjos junta to find scapegoats quickly in order to avoid a backlash!

It seems easy for me to write on the matter now given the deep emotion and sadness General Muratalas assassination evoked in me even as a secondary student at the time, but obviously, the way and manner most of the suspects were summarily arrested, tried and executed cannot stand the test of even natural justice, not to talk of a proper trial of the type human rights activists have come to romanticise over time. I can also never recall any literature which suggested that their trial and conviction were ever subjected to the process of appeal, a major ingredient of even the military judicial system!

Many accounts of the trials and executions of those convicted from the Dimka coup available including those of the respected Nowa Omoigui, hint at the barbaric treatment of the suspects even as they also claim that it remains unclear to this day to what extent certain individuals who were shot were actually involved in the coup. Among the officers who may have been innocent was Colonel A.D.S. Wya whose Irish wife, unable to bear the tragedy subsequently committed suicide. Major C.D. Dabang, an alleged member of the group who had pleaded with Dimka to delay the coup until he was well enough to take part, was still undergoing treatment at the Military Hospital in Lagos when soldiers arrived, disconnected his drip and took him away for trial and subsequent execution.

What makes their case all the more worthy of an elaborate inquest is that there are also further questions about how Obasanjo survived the assassins on the day of the coup itself. Again, going by Omoiguis well-researched account "General Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd) has written that he was late in leaving home that day on account of a visit by Brigadier Olu Bajowa to get a name for his new baby. When it became apparent that there was trouble, Obasanjo executed an escape and evasion maneuver, spent most of the day at the house of a civilian friend in Ikoyi monitoring the situation by telephone, but later emerged to become the Head of State. His would be assassins mistook then Colonel Dumuje for him along Awolowo road in Lagos, seriously wounding that officer. The specifics of how that happened remain a matter of conjecture particularly since the car of a Lt. General would have had three stars mounted on the license plate. Whether Dumuje was riding in Obasanjos car is a curious possibility that has never been clarified. Or perhaps the hit men were drunk and could not tell one flag from another."

In the end, I need only to add that if Obasanjos treatment of Gowon over the Dimka coup fully confirmed what the late Chief Sunday Awoniyi once told me about the Generals compelling propensity to commit evil, the PDP, and its leadership, can be rest assured that they need him as the Chairman of their Board of Trustees like they need a hole in the head. Whether the party will listen to the collective yearnings of a majority of its members however is another thing entirely.

Both Dimka and Al Mustapha are to give their lives for covert coups that appear to be sponsored by America's CIA and both facilitated by IBB.

The issue of cowardice is misconceived. Did IBB not run to hide during Orkars coup while Abacha was crushing the rebelion. Why has he never been accused of cowardice?
Obj was not rewarded with the presidency, he was the number 2 man and power automatically devolved to him.

Obasanjo was involved in the coup that assassinated Muritala Mohammed, that is why he claimed to be in hiding whilst it was going on.

How can Dimka have organised a coup and be getting drunk the night before? It is clear that
OBj and IBB were the people behind Muritala Mohammed's assassination.

OBJ and IBB knows more than their brain can take thus turning them insane.

Secret is part way of getting to the top in the military.

It does not at all seem probable that Dimka was the leader of thr coup that assassinated Muritala Mohammed. Some how the real people behind the coup (Obj, Yara Dua and IBB) some how got (tricked?) him to confess at a press conference and get himself executed with 66 other innocent and probably patriotic people to cover up their deceit.

Some how Dimka became the fall guy so that Obasanjo and Babangida could cover up their covert coup against Muritala Mohammed.

Regarding Al Mustapha, my theory was that IBB some how convinced him to facilitate the poisoning of Abacha and hand over power to him via his (IBB's ) cousin Abdulsalami Abubakar and now he is facing death by hanging.

very correct ur on track British MI5 gave OBJ a heads up why do you think Dimka ran to the British High Commission on that same day I believe any African leader that goes against the white house or tries to improve his country is taken out by the West e.g Muammar Gaddafi (tried to introduce a currency that wud shame the dollar),Patrice Lumumba,MKO Abiola(even though he never became President)
