Ikenna351: This thread is doing more harm than good. The more you people post these images, the more some members, especially kids and teenagers that visit this section, will go out to do the same to prove meaningless point. Not everyone will survive it to come back and post their images or tell their stories.

My concern is the bad example this thread is teaching the younger ones. A lot of teenagers have wrecked their parents car, not just to show off, but to prove a point. And that's what this thread is doing: Encouraging them.

Funny thing is, there is no big deal with the speed on images people are posting here. Even the tiny Kia Picanto can attain these speeds. What matters is not the speed, but ability of the car and the driver to handle the speed been pushed at.

Left to me, this thread shouldn't have existed.

Of course, I wouldn't expect you to understand if truly you are a female. Simply because you were never a male teenager and wouldn't know what thread like this would do on them.

You go just snap speedo enta heaven

Just download an android app called Ulysse speedometer. It will record your maximum speed and so on, and you don't have to risk everybody's life with this 'selfless' venture

thanks that's one of the advantages of nairaland you learn new stuff. thanks i just downloaded it and honestly its as accurate as my cars digital speedometer wow wow wow. next time am on a flight i will check the speed of the airplane.

why are you worried? what percentage do you think teenage readers of this thread will add to the already high accident rates in Nigeria. most accidents fatal or not are caused by adults and not teenagers. out of 2568 accidents recorded by FRSC in the year 2013, how many do you think were caused by teens and how many do you think will be caused by teens that have been influenced by this thread on Nairaland.
Am not encouraging over speeding in stable or unstable cars nor with skilled or unskilled drivers. Veiw a thread more like a medium people exchange views and talk to each other simple. The topic or thread is only what attracts these people to talk, we both know that there are many threads on naira land that are dead on arrival others are oversubscribed, all we can do is always hint on the dangers associated with excessive speeding and probably show some pics like this one below to balance the sensational topic.

Oga i have a teenage son, so cut the preaching. While you might think you have a point, that point is quite infinitesimal. It's simply a fun thread where people post how fast they've driven, for some it could be 80km/h. For others it could be 240km/h.
And we exchange thoughts and views on the cars driven, their balance & stability on high speeds etc
Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Have a nice day.

yes it can do 200kmph and I'm always being confused by speedometers that read only 180kmph angry for example a toyota sienna with a 3.3 v6 and an infiniti qx4 with 3.5 v6 speedo reads on 180kmph, and then an I4 1998 accord will get 240kmph on its speedo, how's that possible? I hate the confusion speedometers cause angry

I agree wholeheartedly and I've been saying this.

The thing is that some of the cars pictured are high weaponry and can reach great speed with a resulting massacre on unsuspecting road users.

I have seen a high speed crash in a Ferrari, it wasn't pretty.

Abuja, no you guys drive too roughly there. My specialty is weaving tactfully between traffic. and i don't disobey traffic lights. The few days i spent in abuja 3 years ago highlighted reckless driving habits of the capital folks. I don't think most of you can drive for shit

I wonder what the confusion is. Suv's, trucks and buses have high rollover rate. So manufacturers limit their speed. A sedan with a 3.5L v6 will outrun an SUV with the same engine. You can't expect a Toyota sienna to outrun an i4 Honda accord. The sienna is taller and heavier. With the exception of few SUV 's like range rover sport, Porsche cayenne, Audi q7 etc that can go beyond 220km/hr, u can hardly see a normal SUV that can go that fast.

I do not even wish to drive any SUV fast, even though it has 260km/h on the dash,
a good amount torque an SUV has is what I appreciate...this means I can pull good amount of weight easily.

then what of corolla 2005 and 2005 camry which has a v6 engine, and both have 180 on their speedo, do they roll over too?

I present to thee the GMC Typhoon.

It's on my to do list though they are getting older.

"The Typhoon was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and could do a quarter-mile run in 14.1 seconds at 95 mph (153 km/h). Car and Driver compared the Syclone's performance favorably to the Ferrari 348ts, Chevrolet Corvette, and Nissan 300ZX Turbo. It cost US$29,970, though the magazine criticized the plasticy interior pieces."

El Maestro

Theres this SUV and then then the other SUV.

As you know you can prepare any car for a purpose. It's all about suspension work.

This is what our Highway Patrol use here now.

They retired the old Ford sedans.

They wouldn't have done that if there was a performance deficit. They also tested some Volvo sedan too.

I drove for 3 hours at 150mph straight in my BMW 528i once.

Let's just say that gas mileage suffered greatly.

Thanks.

It's my passion. Even before I left Nigeria in 1986 I'v been going to Owode onirin to figure out if I can fit a Volvo alternator into a Datsun.

Some friends, golf, fish, bowl, hunt, etc mine is to open the classifieds and find a car that I know is underpriced and buy it. Use it for a while (some don't even make it home before I sell them), clean them up to their old glory and then sell them off with a profit.

I bought a Mazda RX7 (first gen) from an original owner once (this thing was clean as can be), stopped to buy gas on the way home and some guy made me an offer and I sold it right there.

Fleet at some point:

Front Wheel Drive, Rear Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive. Hmmmm...which one to drive today?

Siena: NG, I love the yellow Moke. How did you find the driving experience?

Frankly the best street car I've ever owned. It's practically a street legal go kart. I enjoy leaving much more powerful cars in the curves but for them to real me right in on the straights.

As fellow car guys I know you know that feeling when you sell off a car that you know you will regret, but we can't keep them all.

Pic:
As Found
Made cover of Britain's Mini Magazine
MG Metro engine with all the tricks of the trade internally.
Extensive suspension work with beefier bits. You can see the old tie rod has a bent from stress.

PS: To be on topic. Highest speed is very little in this car, maybe 70mph at most (that feels like 200mph when your butt is 8 inches from the ground and you're shoulder level with the hubcaps of semi trucks, no roof, no door but hymning the lord is my shepherd all the way). This car was not about speed but about out-cornering much more expensive "sports cars".
