Politics / Shehu Sani Mocks Nigeria’s Power Crisis Over Facebook, Instagram Outage by actiondrilling: 9:25pm On Mar 05
A human rights activist and one-time Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone, Shehu Sani, has thrown a jibe at the Nigeria’s power sector apparently over epileptic power supply to consumers occasioned by incessant collapse of the National Grid.

The former federal lawmaker known for his penchant for humourous posts on social media, took to his X handle (formerly Twitter) to react to the abrupt outage on Facebook and Instagram platforms on Tuesday evening, saying the outage will not last like the regular collapse of the Nigeria’s power system.

Sani wrote: “Facebook outage will not last like the collapse of National grid.”

Business / Enugu Government Shuts ShopRite, SPAR, Other Malls Over Failure To Remit Taxes by actiondrilling: 11:06am On Mar 05
The Enugu State Government has sealed Enugu ShopRite and SPAR for alleged non-remittances purchase tax in their malls to the government after being served several warning notices.

The State Internal Revenue Service (ESiRS), enforcement team carried out the sealing of the malls on Tuesday morning.

Other malls and businesses closed include - Roban, Mama Onyinye restaurant among others.

The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service(ESIRS) HOD eateries, bars, hotels, and shopping malls, Egwuonwu Perpetual said the agency has visited the sealed malls and businesses on several occasions to request for the purchase tax but they failed to remit such.

She added they have also pleaded with the concerned individuals to be remitting their taxes when due, but "have been recalcitrant and till now they have not done anything concerning these instructions."

“It is worthy of note that after we met with the Roban store they displayed our sticker and have complied with remitting their purchase tax to the IRS. On the other hand, ShopRite has frustrated all our efforts to get them to do the needful.

"It is always one story or another eventually they promised us that before the end of February, they would do something but we are in March and the ESIRS have not heard from them,” she said.

Egwuonwu stressed that the malls would remain closed until the issues at hand were resolved.

Speaking to journalists on the incident, the spokesperson for the service, Nnamdi Eneh explained that the agency had gone on air to enlighten and educate the people on the need to remit their taxes.

“Our public enlightenment programme has been ongoing for a while now. We have been sensitizing the people and pleading with them to pay their taxes so as not to fall victim during enforcement, but most of them remained adamant.

"The objective here is not to disrupt anybody’s business but since pleading did not work, this is the only way to compel them to do what they are supposed to do.”

Politics / Tinubu Has Solved Igbos Major Problem – Umahi by actiondrilling: 7:52am On Mar 04
The Minister of Works, David Umahi has shared his thoughts on the reason the Southeast will not protest against President Bola Tinubu’s administration despite the economic hardship in the country.

Umahi asserted that Tinubu has resolved the incessant farmers/herders clashes in the region.

He stated this while addressing newsmen at his Uburu hometown in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to him, the clashes contributed to the insecurity in the area and affected food production, leading to hunger in the land.

The Minister argued that the high cost of living was a ripple effect from the past administrations’ actions and inactions.

He, however, explained that the President has started resolving the situation.

The Minister said Tinubu’s administration has favoured the Southeast greatly through appointments to key positions, including himself, the first Minister of Works from the Southeast.

He said the administration has been doing many projects in the region, adding that with all these, the Southeast has no moral justification to join those protesting against the President over the high cost of living in the land.

Umahi urged residents of the region not to be lured by any group or other regions to join any protest against the President.

According to him, “The present hunger that everybody is talking about didn’t start today. It’s a built-up to a number of factors. Before the past administration and present administration, we had been having a build-up of insecurity. We had farmers/herders clashes over a number of years.

“At a time, I was the Chairman of NEC committee on resolving farmers/herders clashes. So, I went through a number of states, especially the northern states, settling the farmers/herders clashes, and it yielded a number of fruits.

“That problem dealt a huge blow to food production. The issue of kidnapping and the issue of insecurity prevented farmers from going to their farms because here we are talking about hunger.

“And so, you expect the administration of President Tinubu to fix all those things within nine months? It’s not possible. It’s a cumulative effect of the past, like I have mentioned. We should be asking ourselves: how do we solve these problems? That’s what the President has started doing. When something has got to the climax, you don’t expect to resolve it overnight.

“If you check very well, especially in the Southeast, you will know that we no longer have incessant farmers/herders clashes. So, why should we join the protest when the President has solved our major problem? The problem we now have in the Southeast is self-inflicted. That is the issue of unknown but known gunmen.

So, if we are protesting, who are we protesting against? We are protesting against a President that has solved herders/farmers clashes. If you remove the issue of unknown gunmen, the Southeast will be completely safe and farmers can work. So, we can’t go and join anybody to protest.

Politics / BREAKING: No More Sit-at-home In Enugu, Peter Mbah Declares by actiondrilling: 6:58pm On Jun 01, 2023
…Begs Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu

The governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has declared an end to sit-at-home in the state effective from Monday, June 6, 2023, saying such orders were restricting creativity, entrepreneurship, and productivity in the state.

He, however, expressed government’s readiness “to engage in dialogue with people, who have genuine grievances towards bringing lasting peace and security to Enugu State”.

This was even as he called on President Bola Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to quicken the much-needed healing process in Nigeria.

Mbah made the declaration while listing out the decisions reached at the end of his first security council meeting with the heads of all the security agencies at the Government House, Enugu, on Thursday.

At the meeting, which also had the Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, in attendance, the governor reminded the people of Enugu that he had hit the ground running on the day of his inauguration by signing three Executive Orders for the good governance of the state, including Executive Order 002 for the removal of “Unauthorised Street Barriers Across the State Within 100 Days”.

“There is no time to waste. The clock has started ticking on the mandate you gave me and deliverables I promised,” he reiterated.

“A time comes in the lives of a people when they must decide whether they genuinely want to move forward or remain stuck with the conditions of their underdevelopment.

“The creativity and sense of industry of Ndi Igbo are remarkable. Our DNA is wired with commercial and entrepreneurial prowess.

“If this is what we are known by, then it becomes inconsistent with reality that the spirit of entrepreneurship, commerce and creativity are killed every Monday in our land. Our restless spirit of industry abhors laxity and indolence.

“The idea behind sitting at home on Monday, the first working and business day of the week, is abominable and antithetical to greatness and the spirit of industry we profess to have inherited from our forebears. This cannot be us. Tufiakwa (God forbid). It does colossal damage to us”, he further added.

Mbah reminded the people of the direct connection between his lofty promises he made to them and the vibrancy of commerce in the state.

“For us to transit from a public service economy to a private sector-driven one, we must free our markets from the shackles of restriction to commerce. If indeed we aspire and anticipate an influx of private sector practitioners and investors in Enugu State, we must know that this will not happen where the perception of us is that of unproductive people.

“Therefore, those that strike on Mondays, putting restrictions in the way of our Igbo spirit of creativity, cannot be our true representatives. In fact, they kill our spirit.

“We know that our land is a fertile ground for commerce. However, businesses, entrepreneurship and commerce require a vibrant workforce and big markets where they can flourish and make money.

“To this end, therefore, from Monday June 6, 2023, there will be no observance of any sit-at-home in all nooks and crannies of Enugu State.

“Government will enforce this with all the powers at its disposal.

“My charge to all of you – market men and women, the corporate world, industries, schools, civil servants, and all strata of workers in Enugu State is for us to take back our sense of industry, pride of place and re-enact our glorious past.

“By heeding this call, you would have set us on the path of actualising our mandate”, he stated.

Mbah, however, said the release of Kanu was important to the healing of the country.

“I call on our newly sworn in president, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consciously work towards the release of MazI Nnamdi Kanu. We believe that his release will expedite the healing process Nigeria needs at this time.

“It will also be a pointer to his administration’s extension of brotherly hands of fellowship to Ndigbo”, he concluded.

Politics / Labour Party Braces Up For A Fight With Bat In A Leaked Memo by actiondrilling: 10:45am On May 31, 2023
C O N F I D E N T I A L

CAUCUS MEETING OF LABOUR PARTY NATIONAL STAKEHOLDERS & STRATEGISTS (NSS), HELD ON SUNDAY MAY 25TH, 2023

EXECUTIVE BRIEFING:

After due consultations and extensive deliberation on critical issues that requires urgent attention, the LP National Caucus considered and agreed to the underlisted resolutions, pursuant to the strategic reclamation of our stolen presidential mandate, vis a vis the illegal swearing-in plot slated for May 29, 2023.

1. The message that LP won the 2023 presidential election must be maintained and escalated as key to continue inspiring followers and sustaining sponsorship. Members should be bold to say that LP actually won the presidential election anywhere they are.

2. Provide logistics for continuous diaspora engagement in view of increased protests in their various countries of residence, especially UK, US, China, Germany and Rome where they already have strong coordinators to amplify global awareness and sympathy for the Labour Party as the struggle continues.

We decided to skip Dubai considering that government policy in the area may not permit protests of such nature. We also agreed that the sum of $50,000 dollars should be allocated for renewed protests in each of the selected countries to encourage more people who may not want to skip their job allowances to protest without compensation.

3. There is urgent need to renew the contract and hotel accommodation of our strategists in the hotel because many of them are already showing signs of disenchantment due to inadequate funding.

4. Media attacks on the APC president elect Chief Bola Tinubu and his Vice Alhaji Kashim Shettima must be sustained so as to deepen the hatred against them across Nigerian states, since they are bent on going ahead with the inauguration against our wish.

5. The time has come to organize a fundraiser for the task ahead, part of which shall be used to offset the bills of the media consultants without whom our principal and the party stand to lose many supporters who rely so much on their regular updates.

6. In case Bola Ahmed Tinubu succeeds in being sworn in on May 29th 2023, we shall draw a four-year plan to discredit his administration. Provision must be made for monthly settlement of the touts and other unemployed youths working for us on social media by paying them monthly stipends for media attacks on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Gov Nyesom Wike, Prof Wole Soyinka especially the Chief Justice of Nigeria so that by the time our matter gets to the Supreme court they will be afraid to mess with us. Note however, that the media attackers would simply stop work and disperse if there is no provision for their upkeep.

7. The party leadership should be conscious about disclosing the amount of money realized from the sale of forms and donations since we cannot afford to unveil everything and be working empty-handed, especially now that people are raising eyebrows, just like the factional Chairman of Anambra chapter Mr Peter Okoye is querying about the sum of ₦400 million in the custody of our national chairman Mr Julius Abure.

8. The next National Chairman of Labour Party must come from Anambra state after Abure so that our leader can have full control of the party.

9. The media team to also concentrate on contents that will jeopardize the chances for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, failing which attention could be shifted from our principal to him.

10. The leadership must continuously engage and financially support those that helped the party during the elections, like NLC and TUC. More so the vehicles promised to the presidents of these two organizations should be released immediately in order to sustain the political relationship between them and the party.

11. The promises made to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Onaga, Awka Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, and Owerri Most Rev. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, should be redeemed forthwith so that we can continue to enjoy their loyalty in political matters.

12. The total amount in our custody at the moment is N4.2 billion naira in Union Bank, N6 billion in First Bank and N8.7 billion in Fidelity Bank, while the foreign currency remains with her Excellency Margaret Obi.

13. Propaganda team to escalate attacks on the Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola as key to persuade him to envisage the security implications of delivering judgement against our candidate. They would equally launch attacks on his family, search for his children anywhere they are in the world and launch mob action against them until justice is served in favour of our great party.

We look forward to your speedy inputs and responses in the area of bankrolling renewed media attacks as proposed. This aspect of the committee's proposal is very crucial to intensifying media attacks on specific targets as stated above, considering the need to denigrate unfriendly politicians especially Govs Wike, Umahi and Uzodimma.

Additionally, we considered the need to service and expand the party structure and equally came up with a proposal for monthly contributions to the party as follows:

1. State House of Assembly Members: Two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000)

2. Federal House of Representatives Members: Five hundred thousand naira (N500,000).

3. Senators: One million naira (N1,000,000).

4. The Governor of Abia State: Thirty million naira (N30,000 000).

Looking at the political situation of the country at the moment, all LP members should continue to address Peter Obi as Mr President.

Meanwhile the Caucus is also proposing a meeting of key stakeholders of the party every 3 months to review compliance and effectiveness of action plan. This is to enable the body plan in view of the task ahead.

* Note that this is an internal memo, therefore not meant for public consumption, including your aides and staff. You are only required to review and forward your observations and contributions via this WhatsApp group.

Peacemaker St@bbed To De@th While Separating F$ght In Delta Days After Relocation

Four days after moving to Delta State, peacemaker st@bbed to de@th while separating fi#ht

A peacemaker, identified as Peter Spencer Nwabuaze, has been st@bbed to de@th while trying to separate two boys who were fi#hting in Asaba, Delta State.

It was gathered that the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday morning, October 10, just four days after he relocated from Lagos State to Asaba with his pregnant wife and son.

According to a source, “His wife sent him to buy soap at a shop close to their house. On his way, he saw two boys fi#hting and he tried to separate them, but unfortunately he was st@bbed to de@th.

The boys said it was a mistake. It was the hospital they rushed him to that called his wife to inform her of his de@th. Saddest part is that she’s heavily pregnant and they have a young son.

They were living in Satellite town, Lagos but moved to Asaba just four days ago.”

Politics / Sheikh Gumi Reveals Those That Lure Herdsmen Into Banditry by actiondrilling: 5:11am On Oct 01, 2021
Kaduna based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has lamented that innocent Fulani herdsmen were lured by arms and drug dealers into banditry terrorising the Northwest states.
Sheikh Gumi however said kidnappings and killings by bandits can only be stopped by hijacking them back from the evil arms and drug dealers and not by the kill-them-all approach currently adopted by the government.
The Islamic Scholar who had repeatedly advocated amnesty for bandits, spoke while addressing a peace conference organised by Center For the Advancement of Human Dignity and Value in Kaduna on Thursday.
The ex-military offices noted that lack of religion, ignorance and poor enlightenment on the part of the Fulani herdsmen are the causes of insecurity in the region and enlightenment is the cure.

“I realised one thing, lack of religion, lack of knowledge, ignorance is the cause of insecurity, enlightenment is the cure, when you enlighten them you can cure them, when you want to cure the problem the way it was created, you go into bloodshed and this is exactly what we are witnessing now. We have left a big section of Nigerians with nothing; we left them with animals, we don’t do anything for them, nothing is taken seriously in Nigeria. “The nomadic education was left to no funding. How do you cure it? Some are suggesting kill them all, because they are killing. For three years the government has spent $1 billion and now you need another $1billion, but I said one third of that $1billion will enlighten them and stop the killing. Have you tried it? Nobody tried it. They (bandits) have empathy like we have, they have families, children..

“When I visited the bandits in the forest, the first step was to use psychology on them, they aired their grievances and they were ready to change. So, what were their conditions? They were all constitutional rights. When a herdsman comes before the court of law, he is finished because he is ignorant, they complained and nobody gave them justice. What do they have? When we have education ministers, not one kobo goes to their children. .”They are hijacked by evil people, drug addicts, gunrunners, let us hijack them back to the society this is what we need to do. They have dignity too, they should be respected and given all the human right everybody has. i came out of the forest to address the authority, to sit down and explain to them the way out, but I found out that going on that difficult journey to the forest of Niger state is easier than getting the attention of somebody in Aso Rock. “We are ignorant because we don’t understand the dignity of human lives. We don’t value human lives. These criminals can turn into saints one day. So, there is a way we can solve our problem. We should respect human dignity. Every human by our constitution is guaranteed equity and justice, everybody is free to choose his or her religion nobody should impose on anybody to think otherwise,” he said.

Politics / Peter Obi Political Orphan Now – Soludo by actiondrilling: 7:12am On Sep 30, 2021
The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has described ex-governor Peter Obi as a political orphan with no direction.

Soludo, who made this description at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, while presenting his manifesto to Ndi-Anambra, said Obi did well as an APGA governor but became a political orphan the day he broke the promise he made that only death would separate him from APGA.

Soludo said Obi swore publicly that it was only death that would separate him from APGA; that someone who made such a vow before Heaven and Earth and later broke it has sued for political irrelevance.

The former CBN governor said he would not learn on the job, adding that he was determined to create an Anambra where people from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria would come and look for job opportunities.

Politics / Abba Kyari: IPOB/ESN Are Celebrating His Exit With Crime - Joe Igbokwe by actiondrilling: 5:51am On Sep 30, 2021
We Want Abba Kyari Back In The Sout-East, IPOB/ESN Are Celebrating His Exit With Crime - Joe Igbokwe

Anambra-born politician and Lagos chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Joe Igokwe has stated that the presence of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari is needed in the South-East region of the country now more than ever before.

While reacting to the deteriorating South-East security situation which has already claimed the life of late Professor Dora Akunyili's husband (Dr. Chike Akunyili), and many others in recent time, Joe Igbokwe begged the federal government to repost the result-oriented DCP Abba Kyari to the region.

The Special Assistant to the Lagos State governor on Drainage and Water Resources Matters alleged that from the look of things, members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and their bandits unit, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) are capitalizing on the absence of Kyari in the region to commit atrocities.

Please federal government, we need Abba Kyari back in the South-East, Joe states on his Facebook post a few moments ago. Check out the post below:

Politics / Ohaneze Ndigbo Says The South-East Is Under Siege by actiondrilling: 5:34am On Sep 30, 2021
Igbo’s apex sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze NdIgbo Worldwide, raised the alarm over the incessant killing of innocent citizens of the Igbo nation. Ohanaeze said the zone was currently under a heavy siege.

President General of the organisation, Professor George Obiozor, raised the alarm during the Igbo Day Prayer Summit organised by Ohanaeze NdIgbo Worldwide, in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South East zone. Obiozor spoke against the backdrop of Dr. Chike Akunyili’s murder.

The president-general, who was represented by Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Mr. Innocent Nwudenyi, stated that there was need for the people of the South-east to pause and seek the face of God, because there were too many killings in the zone lately.

Obiozor stated, “As we gather today to pray, we need to take a pause in Igbo Nation. We need to seek the face of God, we need to remember our brothers and sisters that have been killed over the years but more importantly, we need to think about today. The Igbo Nation is under siege; there are too many killings. Many unnecessary killings in the zone.”

He described the killing of Akunyili as unfortunate, regrettable and most worrisome, pointing out that the killings in Anambra State and otherstates of the South-east have reached an alarming stage.

The Ohaneze Ndigbo president noted that something needed to be done urgently to save the South-east from the unnecessary killings. He also asked the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other groups to think deeply and take a pause.

“Professor Obiozor has asked IPOB and other groups to think deeply, because if they kill every person, who will be there,” Nwudenyi said. “We need to take a pause as a people and understand what is confronting us,” he added.

The president-general regretted that beyond the sit-at-home order, there were on-going killings from one state to another in the South-east and called on the clergy to pray fervently for the zone.

In an address, Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, wondered why Igbos would be killing each other, and called for brotherly love, harmony, and peace among the Igbo.

Umahi, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, Dr. Kenneth Ugballa, regretted the killing of Akunyili and noted that his death was a big blow to NdIgbo

Politics / VAT War: No Regret Supporting FG - David Umahi by actiondrilling: 4:38pm On Sep 14, 2021
Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi has said he has no regret preaching that federal government should be collecting Value Added Taxes(VATs) and share to states of the federation.

The Governor stated this on Tuesday during the inauguration of south east leaders of the Christian Association in Nigeria(CAN) with his Senior Special Adviser(SSA) on Religion and Welfare, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali as the Chairman.

The inauguration was performed by the President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle at the Christian Ecumenical centre, Abakaliki

He called on CAN and all the traditional institutions in south east to begin to sensitize the people of the zone on the dangers of the sit-at-homes being ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).

He said “the sit-at-home is not biting the south East Governors. If you sit-at-home, some of their children are outside the country, it’s not biting them. If the body of Christ and all the Traditional institutions should rise up to let them know the dangers. We fear that a splinter group may come and toe this thing we are sitting on Mondays, Tuesdays and on Fridays and on Sunday sit-at-home by the Christian body.

“Another sit-at-home on Wednesdays and Thursdays, yes, I am hearing that and then the end would have come and would have become very clear to our people. I never see when people brought war upon themselves. So, I plead with the Christian body to announce the dangers they are bringing to ourselves.

“Nobody is sitting at home in the West, in the North, in the South South. We are only sitting at home here, what do we intend to achieve? Nothing!

“We are killing ourselves and we say we are agitating, agitating for what? So, it’s a very terrible thing. When our people push for restructuring, yes, I agree with restructuring but it has to be administrative restructuring, I will continue to preach it. Our states that are very weak must be taken care of before we say let everybody control their resources.

“There was a time we were house boys and house girls and they were very helpful in service to other states. It is time to be built up before you can collect their VATs separately. I will continue to preach that allow the federal government to collect VAT and share for us”.

Education / ASUU: Our Public Universities Are Still Unsafe For Reopening by actiondrilling: 5:25am On Sep 01, 2020
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Monday, has said it was still unsafe at this time for the nation’s public universities to reopen for academic activities.

It also said even at that, the union is still on its industrial action which it commenced since March nationwide and would only call it off when demands are addressed by the government.

The Lagos Zone coordinator of the union, who is a lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAAB), Prof Olusiji Sowande, gave this position in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday evening.
According to him, there is nothing different on the ground from what it used to be before COVID-19 in the nation’s public universities nor any noticeable concrete steps taking to address the terrible conditions that most of the universities are.

He said student’s hostels are not only still inadequate, there is just no significant facilities on ground to carry out the physical distancing guidelines in large and crowded lecture rooms.

Besides that, he said, water and electricity supply, among other needs, are also still unreliable and that is why reopening of tertiary institutions for now without taking concrete steps to address these issues would be suicidal.

He said it was even unheard of that government could make arrangements for special bailout funds for airline operators and other private entities without considering the same for public universities.

While also decrying that some of the union members, particularly those at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) have their salaries withheld for five months and members’ check-off deductions generally had not been remitted since February 2020 to date by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), as well as members having one complaint or the another over salaries payment due to what he termed their forceful enrollment into Integrated and Personnel Payroll System (IPPIS), he said the government would need to address all these issues.

According to him, the payment of salary is incomplete when third party deductions are not remitted to the parties concerned.

Prof Sowande explained that “Check-offs and other third-party deductions by law should not be held beyond seven days before being remitted to the concerned parties.

“So, deducting and failure to remit our check-off since February 2020 to date by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) is not only illegal but criminal,” he stressed.

He said the withholding action raises a number of questions such as who is keeping the deductions and on whose directive, as well as would the interest be paid on the funds, among others.

Politics / Trump Is The Best Thing That Have Ever Happened To America – Reno Omokri by actiondrilling: 6:51am On Feb 06, 2020
Reno Omokri has reacted to Trump’s Impeachment Victory at the senate.

Recall that President Donald Trump won impeachment acquittal Wednesday in the U.S. Senate, bringing to a close only the third presidential trial in American history with votes that split the country, tested civic norms and fed the tumultuous 2020 race for the White House.
majority of senators expressed unease with Trump’s pressure campaign on Ukraine that resulted in the two articles of impeachment. But the final tallies — 52-48 favoring acquittal of abuse of power, 53-47 of obstruction of Congress’ investigation — fell far short. Two-thirds “guilty” votes would have been needed to reach the Constitution’s bar of high crimes and misdemeanors to convict and remove Trump from office.
RENO OMOKRI REACTS:

Acquitted! I love you Donald Trump! My time, money and my entire family’s vote is for you in November. You are the best thing that happened to the good old US of A #AcquittalDay

Health / Coronavirus Hits 5 Persons In US – Health Authorities by actiondrilling: 3:43am On Jan 27, 2020
The US health authorities said Sunday there are now five confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States and more are expected.

Nancy Messonnier, head of the respiratory disease section at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said around 100 people in 26 states are being investigated for the virus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Of the confirmed cases, all five people had traveled to Wuhan, Messonier said during a conference call with reporters.

“Every case we have had in the United States is someone who has had direct contact in Wuhan,” she said.

Messonier said there are two cases in California and one each in Arizona, Illinois and Washington state. Until now the toll was three.

While Chinese officials have launched an extraordinary emergency response, Messonier insisted that the health risk for Americans, in general, remains low “at this time.”

Politics / FG Yet To Reconstitute Minimum Wage Team by actiondrilling: 6:20am On Oct 07, 2019
Despite the threat by the organised labour that it could not guarantee industrial peace if the Federal Government failed to meet its demand on the implementation of the new minimum wage by the close of work on October 16, 2019, the FG has yet to constitute a team to negotiate with the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had on September 28, during a visit by labour leaders in Abuja said a new government team would replace the old one headed by the former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita.

During the visit to the minister in Abuja, Ngige said he and other ministers in the former negotiating committee were unable to be part of the first phase of the negotiation because the cabinet was dissolved and permanent secretaries took the places of ministers in the team.

He said the former government team made appreciable progress and promised that the new team would reach an agreement with labour over the implementation of the new minimum wage.

However, more than a week after the assurance was made and about 10 days before labour executes its plan, a source at the Ministry of Labour and Employment told our correspondent on condition of anonymity that there was no sign the team would be constituted immediately.

The source said, “I am not aware that a new team will be constituted this week. The presidency is busy with budget presentation for now. Government has not constituted the committee. I have not heard anything and I don’t know when it will be reconstituted.”

When contacted the Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Willie Bassey, said a statement would be made after the team had been reconstituted.

Politics / UN Report On Violent Conflicts In Nigeria Disappointing –presidency by actiondrilling: 3:26am On Sep 21, 2019
The presidency yesterday challenged the United Nations (UN) rapporteur on violent conflicts in Ngeria to adhere to truth in the presentation of reports. Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, in a statement on yesterday, expressed disappointment that the rapporteur was silent on intra-group violence in the organisation’s report. “The UN representative needs to be truthful and evenhanded in her assignment, ” he noted.

Garba was reaching to a press reports of the UN rapporteur on violence in Nigeria. He said: “While we agree that the violence in Nigeria, or in any country, is a major concern and that there is a rippling effect, we are disappointed that the rapporteur was silent on intra-group violence. “In Benue, Taraba, Cross River States and many parts of the country, most of the casualties result from intragroup, inter-group and community violence.

Many of the displaced persons across the nation are also victims of these conflicts.” “There is absolutely no doubt that violence between farmers and herders, which has a long history in our country spiked in recent years but the effectiveness with which the Federal and State authorities responded made a big difference. Calm has virtually returned to all parts affected by the peculiar violence,” the presidential aide said.

Politics / Nigeria Needs N36tr For Good Infrastructure, Says NESG by actiondrilling: 8:32am On Sep 20, 2019
Chairman, Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Asue Ighodalo, has said that the country requires about $100 billion (N36 trillion) to get the right infrastructure.
To get this huge sum, Ighodalo urged the Federal Government to encourage investors by granting incentives and creating the right policy framework to secure investments.

He said this yesterday when NESG visited Rutam House, headquarters of The Guardian in Lagos.

Creating an enabling environment for the private sector to thrive, he noted, will lead to massive job creation, which will in turn develop the economy.

“Since Nigeria does not have $100 billion to tackle infrastructure deficit, so we must encourage those who have it. We must create an enabling environment that would generate jobs, have proper infrastructure and develop the economy.

“Investors will only bring their money where they get good results. All these will form a template for the country’s development plan. Any other way, we are only deceiving ourselves.”

In addressing some of the issues in the country, the group said that plans had been concluded for this year’s Nigerian Economic Summit (NES), the 25th edition, holding in October to usher in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and mark a strategic shift to a competitive private sector economy by 2050 through renewed focus on economic growth, competitiveness and inclusive development.

Themed ‘Nigeria 2050: Shifting Gears’, the NESG boss said the summit would address issues on achieving rapid industrialisation, transforming education, managing demography and sustaining peace and security.

According to him, it has become critical for industry leaders and policy-makers to create a realistic way of achieving desired goals that will move the nation forward.

Noting that Nigeria’s economic prosperity depends on the productivity with which human and natural resources are employed, Ighodalo said: “Competitive economies have stable macroeconomic conditions and their business climate keeps transaction costs low, thereby encouraging savings and investments as well as enabling vigorous competition. Such economies create a private sector than can effectively compete for opportunities in regional markets.

“For Nigeria to rank among them, we must have the capacity to modernise in a way that Nigerian firms achieve more sophisticated competitive advantages and higher productivity.”

Politics / Xenophobia Attack: FG Wants Compensation For Nigerians – Dabiri-erewa by actiondrilling: 6:38am On Sep 13, 2019
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, says the Federal Government is pressing for compensation for affected Nigerians in the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Dabiri-Erewa stated this at the maiden Diaspora Lecture of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

The lecture was entitled: “Role of Africans in Diaspora in the Transformation of a University of Technology.”

Dabiri–Erewa, who was represented by Mr Abdul-Rahman Balogun, her Special Assistant on Media, noted that the Nigerian government was also putting in place measures to ensure perpetrators were prosecuted and justice is given.

According to her, those that have been evacuated to Nigeria would be well taken care of.

Dabiri-Erewa also enjoined all state governments to create a Diaspora Desk, saying Nigeria has the highest diaspora potentials in Africa and the third in the world.

Prof. Mobolaji Aluko, the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, and guest lecturer at the occasion, said Nigerian universities of technology should ensure that they have foreign students’ enrolment through scholarship programme for them.

Aluko, also a Special Adviser and Director-General, Office of Transformation, Strategy and Delivery Office in Ekiti, urged universities to sustain regular academic calendar.

He also called for a conducive environment for learning in universities while parents should develop scientific mindset in their children.

“We need to start to develop scientific minds in all our children. We should not stop them from being inquisitive and they should walk in groups because nobody achieves anything individually.

” They should be given little problems to solve right from their primary school level,” he said.

In his remarks, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, said that Africa was blessed with great human and material resources.

Fuwape noted that Nigerians in particular had continued to contribute immensely to the global economy.

He promised that FUTA would give fresh impetus to collaboration between researchers in Nigeria and abroad to promote national development.

“This programme would assist us a great deal to identify gaps in transformation trajectory needed for Africa to take its pride of place in the comity of nations,” he added.

Dabiri-Erewa, Dr Mohammed Mustapha Lecky and Dr Babatope Agbeyo were given Goodwill Ambassador awards by FUTA management.

Politics / Okorocha: APC May Collapse After Buhari’s Tenure by actiondrilling: 6:41am On Sep 11, 2019
Senator Rochas Okorocha believes that the All Progressives Congress may crumble after the exit of President Muhammadu Buhari and therefore called for an overhauling of the party leadership to avert this.

The former governor of Imo gave this view at an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, after the election tribunal affirmed his electoral victory.

Okorocha said Buhari’s reputation appears to be the binding factor of APC in addition to the fact that the North was arguably the major decider in Nigeria’s politics.

“I have never thought of leaving the party; I feel that time will take care of most things but my only worry is that the party may disappear with the exit of President Buhari.

“For the moment, Buhari seems to be the strongest pillar upon which this party is built.

“If nothing is done to correct the injustices in our party at the national level, then, I fear that this party may disappear with Buhari’s exit.

“Our party is already busy thinking about presidency in 2023 and not supporting the issue of governance which is what we have right now.

“The score of our party or its assessment depends on what we have done with governance and what we have done with politics.

“These are some of the problems we have and thinking that being APC is a platform to catch political power.

“People have begun to zone where the president will come from and where he will not come from, leaving the issue of governance; so, these have been some of the challenges we have as a party but I hope they will be addressed.

“But that cannot be complete unless we do some surgical movement in the leadership of the party,” Okorocha added.

He noted that Nigerians would judge their leaders on the basis of what they had done as a government before they could decide what to do with them in 2023.

The former Imo governor further said that he was not in a hurry to make decisions on the next line of action following his suspension from the party.

He, however, revealed that his in-law, Mr Uche Nwosu, would return to APC from AA if he eventually reclaimed his governorship mandate.

Okorocha commended the judiciary for upholding his election describing the tribunal’s ruling as a “proof of his innocence” after INEC accused him of obtaining victory through duress.

Politics / Nigeria’s Security Has Been Politicised, Buhari Cries Out by actiondrilling: 6:13pm On Sep 10, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has decried what he calls the “undue politicization” of the security situation in the country.

Speaking Tuesday while receiving promoters of the proposed African Security Leadership Summit at State House, Abuja, the President said no matter how much the revisionists try to distort history, “the records show where we were in terms of security in 2015, where we are now, and we also know where we want to be.”

Buhari said the relative successes of the administration since 2015 are clear, “and what remains in areas of security are also clear, despite the politicization.”

He lauded the plan to convene a high-powered security summit that will bring together some of the leaders on the African continent, defence attaches, embassies and High Commissions, leadership of the defence community in the country, and many others.

Speaking directly to the chairman of the security summit initiative, His Royal Highness, Major-General Abdullahi Bagudu Mamman, (retd), President Buhari said: “I am glad that you are well experienced, and know the implications of this high-powered conference. It will be a great test for you and members of your committee. You will be dealing with professionals in security, defence and diplomacy. We will do our best to support you.”

Major-General Mamman (retd), now a traditional ruler, led a team under the auspices of Global Initiative for Leadership Success (GILS), which is organizing the security summit.

He said: “We share in the conviction of the administration to address the problems of the country. At assumption of office in 2015, parts of the country had been acquired by Boko Haram insurgents. Your seriousness and committed efforts have made us to now be able to worship in peace. Boko Haram has been truly degraded, and other forms of criminalities are being addressed.”

The royal father added that the summit, to hold possibly sometime in October, is being convoked “to involve the entire security architecture in Nigeria, and it will be under the theme, ‘Sustaining the Security Renaissance of Nigeria.’
The event will also feature honours and awards for those who have excelled in the area of security, “because we need to reward the commitment of our heroes.”

An endowment fund will also be launched to cater for families of those who pay the supreme price, and to care for those permanently maimed.

Politics / Invest In Agriculture Rather Than Sports Betting, Group Urges Youths by actiondrilling: 12:03pm On Sep 10, 2019
The Nigeria Farmers Group and Cooperative Society (NFCGS) on Tuesday urged youths in Nigeria to invest their resources in agriculture rather than in sports betting.

Mr Retson Tedheke, the National Coordinator of the group, made the appeal in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency at Ga’ate in Kokona Local Government area of Nasarawa State.

Tedheke said that there would be food security, improved employment generation and revenue base if Nigerian youths could invest their money in agriculture.

“My advice to young Nigerians is that they should stop investing money in sports betting.

“Records have shown that Nigerians are spending N80 billion every month in sports betting and there are much lesser percentage of Nigerians who win the net.

“If these huge monies are channeled into agriculture, it will help a lot in boosting food security, the nation’s employment generation and the country’s revenue base.

“I want to tell young Nigerians that if you do not work, you will not eat and every man that works will make money,’’ he said.

Tedheke advised Nigerians, especially youths, to be hardworking and to engage in meaningful ventures to become self-reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.

He reiterated the group’s commitment to growing different crops and rearing livestock to feed Nigerians and boost the country’s socio-economic development.
