Brymo speaks to the BBC on his new video and why he was almost naked.

The album had a lot of research work. I am one of those who believe we can actually create thoughtful music that people will love.

The video is a message to black people that we are lagging behind. If the whites decide one day to take everything they have offered us like mobile phones, clothes and fashion, we would remain with nothing - naked.

Nairaland / General / 'smoking' Elephant In India Baffles Experts by ceomike(m): 10:08am On Mar 28, 2018
A video of a wild elephant in India blowing out ash from a fire has baffled wildlife experts around the world.

Vinay Kumar, a scientist belonging to the Wildlife Conservation Society (India), filmed the 48-second video during a work trip to Nagarhole forest in Karnataka state in April 2016.

He told the BBC that he had not released the video until now because he did not "quite realise its importance".
Scientists say they are still not clear why the elephant was blowing ashes.

"This is the first known video-documentation of a wild elephant exhibiting such behaviour, and this has scientists and experts puzzled," a statement issued by Wildlife Conservation Society (India) said.

Politics / Opinion - Ipob’s Death by ceomike(m): 9:39am On Sep 19, 2017
On paper the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is dead. The five Governors of the South East states proscribed the body a few days ago. They, instead, advised all aggrieved groups in the region to articulate their positions on all national issues and submit them to the Committee of Governors, Ohaneze Ndigbo and the National Assembly members from the region through the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum.

The action of the governors is futile because they have no power to ban any association, even a rascally one like the IPOB. The 1999 Constitution confers on groups and individuals the freedom to associate. This order by the governors is an infringement of that freedom under the Constitution. The Governors’ Forum is not a parliament that makes laws so its pronouncement on IPOB is not a law. However, each of the governments in the region can get its House of Assembly to pass a law banning IPOB but that law, if passed, will be in conflict with the 1999 Constitution. The Constitution will prevail.

The truth is that the governors’ decision on IPOB is an act in futility. The IPOB members can change the name of their pressure group and still carry on with their activities. There used to be a National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) many years ago. The Federal Government placed a ban on its activities and proscribed it. The Association removed the NUNS garment and renamed itself the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). NANS is alive and well today, doing what NUNS used to do except that it has become a poor shadow of its vibrant ancestor.

To compound the woes of IPOB the military authorities have gone overboard and declared IPOB a terrorist organisation. The military lacks the powers to declare any organisation a terrorist organisation. Only a court of competent jurisdiction can make that pronouncement. Even the charges made by the military against IPOB are not weighty enough for any such declaration. If they think they are right let them head to the court and make a case for the stigmatisation of the pressure group. If the IPOB members decide to challenge these decisions in court they may run away with victory. But that is only my own piece of speculation. The reality is that soldiers are on the ground in the South East marching people’s freedom on their big boots and sending terror into every spine.

Career / Apply For The Obama Foundation Fellowship, 2018 by ceomike(m): 8:38am On Sep 12, 2017
The Obama Foundation Fellowship program seeks to support outstanding civic innovators from around the world in order to amplify the impact of their work and to inspire a wave of civic innovation.
The Obama Foundation Fellows will be a diverse set of community-minded rising stars – organizers, inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, journalists, and more – who are altering the civic engagement landscape. By engaging their fellow citizens to work together in new and meaningful ways, Obama Foundation Fellows will model how any individual can become an active citizen in their community.

The inaugural class of 20 Fellows will be integral to shaping the program and the community of Fellows for future years. For this first class, we’re seeking participants who are especially excited about helping us design, test, and refine the Fellowship.

Our two-year, non-residential Fellowship will offer hands-on training, resources, and leadership development. Fellows will also participate in four multi-day gatherings where they will collaborate with each other, connect with potential partners, and collectively push their work forward. Throughout the program, each Fellow will pursue a personalized plan to leverage Fellowship resources to take their work to the next level.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

CIVIC INNOVATORS

We’re looking for individuals who are working to solve important public problems in creative and powerful ways. We are inspired by a broad vision of what it means to be “civic,” one that includes leaders tackling a range of issues, in both traditional and unconventional ways.

DISCIPLINE DIVERSE

We need people working from all angles and with different perspectives to strengthen our communities and civic life. This fellowship is for organizers, inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, journalists, and more. It is for those working within systems like governments or businesses, as well as those working outside of formal institutions.

AT A TIPPING POINT IN THEIR WORK

Successful applicants have already demonstrated meaningful impact in their communities, gaining recognition among their peers for their contributions. Now, they stand at a breakthrough moment in their careers. They’re poised to use the Fellowship to significantly advance their work, perhaps by launching new platforms, expanding to broader audiences, or taking their work to a national or global stage. If you’ve already gained global recognition for your work or if your civic innovation work has just begun, you may not be the ideal candidate for this program.

TALENTED, BUT NOT CONNECTED

We are committed to expanding the circle of opportunity to include new and varied voices. Thus we have a strong preference for civic innovators who are not currently connected to the networks and resources they need to advance their work. If you’re not sure whether you fit this description, feel free to apply — and make sure to articulate how the resources of the Fellowship would uniquely impact your work.

GOOD HUMANS

We are building an authentic community. A strong moral character is essential for the strength of this community, the integrity of the program, and the longevity of its value. We’re seeking inspirational individuals who demonstrate humility and work collaboratively with others towards shared goals.

Application opens: Wednesday, September 6th @ 11:00am CT

Google Faculty Research Awards (up to $150,000 in seed funding)

At Google, we are committed to developing new technologies to help our users find and use information. While we do significant in-house research and engineering, we also maintain strong ties with academic institutions worldwide pursuing innovative research in core areas relevant to our products and services. As part of that vision, the Google Faculty Research Awards Program aims to recognize and support world-class, permanent faculty pursuing cutting-edge research in areas of mutual interest.

Our goal is to identify and strengthen long-term collaborative relationships with faculty working on problems that will impact how future generations use technology. Google Faculty Research Awards are structured as seed funding (up to $150,000 USD) to support one graduate student for one year and are awarded as an unrestricted gift. The award is highly competitive – only 15% of applicants receive funding – and each proposal goes through a rigorous Google-wide review process.

Politics / Lai Mohammed Slams FFK & Fayose, Warns Nigerians On Fake News Regarding Buhari by ceomike(m): 11:45am On Aug 21, 2017
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has tasked well-meaning Nigerians to hold purveyors of fake news and hate speeches accountable for the falsehood they spread on the President’s health.

The Minister stated this on Sunday when he featured on a late night interview programme on African Independent Television (AIT) on the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari from London

Mohammed expressed concerns over the level of falsehood and bitterness spread by certain high-ranking public officials about the President’s condition while recuperating in London.

He also said the media has the responsibility to hold such officials accountable for the falsehood they spread on the President’s health.

“I will start with Mr Femi Fani-Kayode and Gov Ayo Fayose, although I am not used to commenting about them.

“I remembered on July 13, Fani-Kayode said that Mr President will not come back as President because his situation was pathetic and critical.

“He went as far as saying that the President does not even recognise people and that he suffered from dementia.

“He challenged the Acting President who just came back from his visit to Mr President to tell the world if he actually saw him and talk to him and what the President was suffering from.

“On Aug. 12, I was in London to see Mr President and the whole world saw Mr President walked to greet me they saw him mention my name and yet nobody has gone to challenge him for his lies.

“Similarly, Gov. Fayose came to Abuja and told newsmen that he had 11 pictures that he would release and when he do so, the whole country will be on fire.

“He said Mr President was on life support and he will never return alive to the country.

“It is amazing that up till date, nobody has hold him accountable for his falsehood and reckless statement.

“I am more worried that the media which they used in spreading these falsehood and hate speeches do not think that they have the responsibility to go back and hold them to account,” he said.

The Minister said he was amazed when he heard of a tweet message by Fani-Kayode that it was the planned protest in London by Peoples Democratic Party that “chased the President out to Nigeria”

He said: “In the first instance, assuming without conceeding that it is the truth, is it not Inhuman for any political party to say they have chased out a sitting president who is convalescing.

“Is it not sadistic on the part of a political party to say that they chased out the President who is recuperating from the hospital.

“These are warnings to all of us the level of hatred, bitterness and falsehood that is being purvey”.

The Minister reiterated that every Nigerian has the responsibility to check the high proportion the trend of hate speeches and fake news had assumed.

He said if the trend was left unchecked, it would threaten and destroy the very fabric of the nation
