Good day people,
I am new in the u.k and so far its been good.
Opened an account yesterday and just want to find out how to improve my credit score?
Also, how feasible is it getting into the property market in the next 2/3 years?
I am single, no dependents as well.
Will be expecting replies from experienced nairalanders.
Thanks.

Ralphlauren:

Stop saying people derailed the other thread. undecided

Banter keeps a thread flowing and also encourages others to chip in their thoughts.

you cannot claim that with all the 'derailing', you have not learnt one or two things or you weren't entertained. relax and stop taking life too seriously. The fact that you unfollowed the thread does not have any impact on anyone. . . . nobody notices when you follow or unfollow a thread.

meanwhile, waiting till you get ILR before jumping on the property market is another mistake people make. many people that should have become home owners when things were 'rosy' for them failed to do so all because they get procrastinating - 'I will wait till I get ILR', 'I will wait till I get British passport'.
forgetting that the prices of homes are increasing every year, interest rates are not guaranteed to remain low forever, etc.

chinese students on student visa are buying houses and you are here waiting for ILR.
If you have the funds for your deposit, you are legal in this country and you have a good credit history, look for a house and buy.

so you know, home ownership also helps your ILR application. one of the questions asked in the form is 'if you own your home in the UK'.
home ownership proves you have strong ties to the country and you've also invested in the country.

God forbid you fail to renew your visa, then you simply hand over the house to an estate agency and rent it out. you will still get a decent profit
after deducting your mortgage/tax/fees, etc. one fact remains is that you own a home in the UK. you can choose to sell it off at old age or rely on the rental income at old age.

@ralphlauren
Can a person on tier2 visa buy a house and put it up for rent??
Will this rental affect future chances of getring an ilr.

You're right I've seen many who didn't get a 2nd chance and they're in naija suffering. I always saw Australia as a warmer Canada. Didn't know you guys get 1 year mat leave as well. I'm sure you also get baby bonus cheque and subsidized daycare. This is foreign to our neighbours down south. It's also madness your friend who's a RN won't come up north. You're looking at 84k starting. With OT she's taking in over 100k easily. They'd give her pr on the spot. And since we have universal health care here, her job would be secured. She'd rather stress herself out for papers there?

I've met many people in her situation who finally decided to make the move up north due to the fear of being deported back home. After settling and being successful most can't believe how ignorant they were and wouldn't even move back there. Your friend needs help. No offence.

Please whats the situation for medical doctors trained in nigeria..
Is it as easy cos online, seems canada is difficult for IMGs to get into...

Not only citizens. Even refugees ( I have seen many from Somalia) and green card holders. But is mostly citizens that are that spoilt and refuse to work. There are 2 classes of people getting such payment that I have observed: the lazy ones-mostly their citizens and people who are not lazy, but just lost their jobs. When you loose your job government pays you something until you get another job.
An old school mate I know here lived on such until he finished from school and got a job.

Good day, can this happen with someone who was born in the u.s, but wants to do his university education in the u.s..
Also will such person have to pay full fees??

people that scout for lands in other states like lagos, ogun, rivers.

Nice thread, following keenly, but I have a few questions. @ spyder, 1)did you buy this land from an estate agent or a family?
2) Did you encounter any problem like omo-onile problem seen frequently in a place like lagos.
Sorry if the questions are weird, I just love real estate and its something I hope to go into very soon, will be happy to read your answers to my questions sir.

Babyosisi, I will appreciate it if u answer my question. It's one thing to read stuff over the net, its another to get info from someone whose husband went through what I might be going through. Also any other advice from you will be appreciated.

Lovely thread, keep up the good work babyosisi, am a final year medical student here in nigeria and also hoping to do a residency in the u.s, I have read your reply to fratochi but I still want to ask if its possible to still be in nigeria and be matched for a residency programme in the u.s after passing the usmle or I must be a resident in the u.s before I can be matched. Also do you envisage any problem in getting a visa for the usmle cs step2 as this step requires me to come to the u.s. Lastly, was your husband doing any other job while volunteering in hospitals to learn the ropes. Thanks in anticipation.

Nice thread sagamite, but pls let's stop all these hype about osaze abeg, the guy has not played regular football since january so I don't see anyway he can make our world cup squad unless he starts getting regular game time and does some serious
arselicking. That said, I also think we overestimate nigeria's chances a lot(don't give me that afcon talk now). We are a developing side true, but we should not expect too much from this team, a 2nd round showing if the group is favourable might just be okay or at best a quarter final appearance.

@ everybody attributing this defeat to fatigue, i beg to disagree, in the 1st quarter we played well and didn't show any sign of fatigue. our main problem in the game was we could not counter their zone defence, also our 3 pointers were poor, we also didn't defend well against their 3 pointers. simply put, they found a way to counter us tactically. still sad about the defeat.

I tnk in dz 2nd half, we avnt shown enough determination to win, oyedeji is way past it dz shud be his last tournament 4 nigeria, we don't just make enough 3 points and they are really defending gud against us. Pray we win this one, rili scared, even if we win, egypt won't be an easy opponent. Nice thread.

Am a final year med student and am looking at writing the usmle after my service year, my question is on a scale of 1 to 10, what are my chances of getting a residency slot in the u.s( if I pass the usmle) for anaesthesiology or cardiology. Also am I expected to pay any fees before I get a slot( that's minus the exam fees for usmle). Will appreciate answer from all especially dr benelli and dr ogbonoeba, thanks in anticipation. Nice thread by the way.
