CHAPTER 12

The duo of Tori and Melania seemed interesting and full of life and in the last ten minutes that Joel had been with them, he had enjoyed the series of conversations he had had with them.
“Poverty is a political weapon.” Joel pointed out.
How the discussion drifted into politics, none of them knew, but just as Nigeria is approaching a general election in a year’s time, every young Nigerian is taking up an active role in the polity. The youths are either running for office or playing a decisive role in the political environment.
So, when Tori brought up the issue of the Presidential Youth in Business Workshop- which was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the Presidency – Joel readily shot the idea down, claiming the Presidency could have done more to alleviate poverty, instead of meeting with already established businessmen to seek their support for the upcoming elections.
“How is poverty a political weapon?” Melania asked.
“Look at the statistics released by the World Bank sometimes back, saying 60% of Nigeria’s population lives in abject poverty, below 1USD per day. You think there are no economic policies that could improve the living conditions of Nigeria?” Joel asked rhetorically. “ The government has consistently ensured that the majority live in poverty, so that when election comes, they can influence people with as low as two thousand naira to sell their votes.”
“That cannot be accurate. No one would sell their votes for such measly amount.” Tori argued.
“He is right. People sell their votes for a bowl of rice, onions, salt and other mundane things.” Melania pointed out.
“Do you have your PVC?” Joel asked.
“No, I don’t.” Tori replied. “And I need to get it, someone I know is running for Senate.” She added.
“Who?” Melania asked.
“Raymond.” Tori replied. “His dad is being offered the guber ticket, but he asked for a ticket to the Senate for his son.” She explained further.
“Waoh! That’s huge. So Natasha is gon be the first lady?” Melania remarked.
After another fifteen minutes of discussing around random issues, Tori excused herself to see the Doctor.
“Let’s know when you’ll be discharged and the bill.” With this she left the ward.
With just Joel and Melania inside the ward, there was an awkward silence which was broken by Joel’s abrupt question.
“So, what happened that fateful day? Why did you loose your balance?”
Melania took a deep sigh and as she made to start talking, the door into the ward burst opened and Tori walked in.
“You’re back, so soon!” Melania remarked.
“Yeah, the Doctor said you can leave later in the evening.” Tori replied.
“That’s good to hear.” Joel remarked. “Actually, I’d like to take my leave now.” He announced.
After a number of going back and forth, Joel was finally allowed to leave. “Let me walk you, I’m leaving as well.” Tori said picking up her handbag.
Together, they left the ward to the hospital’s parking lot where he got offered a ride back to the mainland.
Just today, I have managed to save almost 70% of my total transport fare. He thought as Tori backed the car out of the hospital premises.

——–

Dr. Ayeni walked into his living room after a very hectic day at work. Despite having been in active service as a medical doctor for thirty years, something he should have gotten used to, he comes home every day with a new form of tiredness, requiring a special type of recovery process. Right now, he can’t wait to get into the shower and let the cold water do it’s therapeutic job of relaxing and calming his nerves. But his wife was already at home; he had seen her car in the garage. And Angela being home is synonymous to an afternoon of long talks, meaning, no rest.
“Welcome darling.” Her voice rang out from the kitchen just as he was about to get on the flight of stairs.
Damn! He cursed. If only he had gotten on the stairs much quicker, he would have raced all the way upstairs. Or he could have followed the backdoor. Anything to avoid his wife.
“You are home early today.” He said, sounding as since red as possible. But in his head, it sounded like; what the hell are you doing at home by this time?
“Yeah. I knew you would get off early and I went to the market for that.” She replied.
“What about Charity?” He asked, referring to the house help.
“She went to get Philip from school.” Angela replied.
“But she could have gotten it from the market on the way coming back.” He pointed out.
“That girl’s movement is suspicious. She has a boyfriend she goes to see every time she goes to the market. And who knows, she might be sharing my foodstuff with him.” Angela replied in her usual paranoid manner.
Dr. Ayeni turned away from the kitchen, little did he know their conversation was just getting started.
“When are we going to talk about Joel and Natasha?” She asked.
The Doc could hear a voice in his subconscious scream;
Jesus!
“What about them?” He asked, feeling as confident as possible.
“The young man is back, already met his son. Don’t you think this might result to a triangle of some sort?” She asked. Referring to a triangle involving Natasha, Raymond and Joel.
“There is no triangle anywhere. It’s not like Tasha has feelings for him. His business is with his son.”
“Think of what it will cause between Tasha and Raymond.” Angela said.
“It won’t cause anything. Raymond knew Tasha has a lovechild and another man was responsible for it. So, it is merely a confirmation of what he knew already.” Dr. Ayeni explained.
“If that’s how you see it, no problem. But I think Tasha still has something for Joel, cos the circumstances under which he disappeared then, she had no idea. He might tell her the truth.”
Now the conversation was tilting towards the uncomfortable part. One which Dr. Ayeni dreads with passion.
“Tell her that I paid him off so as not to derail the future plans of Tasha. I hope he does.” He replied. “See how Tasha turned out. Imagine if Tasha had been held down by the baggage of being a mother and the presence of her babydaddy, what do you think would happen?”
“You have a point.” Angela concurred.
“I did what I had to do.” He said followed by a deep sigh.
“Grandma!” Philip called from the living room.
“Baby, I’m here.” Angela replied.
Philip ran all the way into the kitchen and jumped on Angela.
“I qualified for the tennis finals.” He announced excitedly.
“That’s my boy, give me five.”
“Uncle Joel was in school to cheer me up today.” Philip added.
Angela hurriedly dropped the boy. “Joel, what does he want?”
“I thought he is Mummy’s old friend?” Philip wondered why Angela spoke in such a tone.
“Yes, he is.” She replied. “Go to your room and freshen up. Lunch is almost ready.”
Once Philip was confirmed out of hearshot, Angela turned to her husband. “I told ya, he has a plan.”

To be continued.

PS:
Philip sees Angela as a grandmother. But she is in fact an Aunt to him.

CHAPTER 11

Raymond stepped out of the elevator clad in a black suit over a black trouser and a pair of black suit. Even as strange as it may sound, his best color is black and he never fail to show it. Hence, even if he is dressed in some other colors, there has to be a touch of black.
“Good morning sir.” His Personal assistant, Nancy, a young lady of about twenty three greeted as soon as he stepped into the lobby.
“Morning Nancy, how was the weekend?” He replied.
“Fine sir. Congratulations on your engagement.” She said trying to catch up with him.
Since he proposed to Tasha over a week ago, he hasn’t been to work, having taken the week off to rest and take care of some personal businesses.
“Thanks.” Raymond acknowledged. “What are my plans for today?”
“You have a meeting with the heads of departments at nine. A behind closed doors meeting with the HR and Finance heads and lastly a meeting with the entourage of the DG, state ministry for culture and tourism about the upcoming Pageantry.” Nancy read out to him in a hurry.
“Fast track my meeting with Finance and HR managers. The one with the ministry should be moved till tomorrow. Check for a free hour tomorrow and communicate the changes to them.” He instructed.
“But sir, we have been postponing the meeting with the ministry, I think it is high time we met them and get it over and done with.” Nancy explained.
“Any implications?” Raymond asked. “We can only meet them when we are free. We have a lot lined up for us for the next couple of months, and a meeting with a state ministry will not help our cause. Ministry of culture for that matter.”
“May seem like that sir, but I think at this stage, even the less relevant government agency can help us.” Nancy argued.
“I thought you said they wanted a meeting to see if we could sponsor the upcoming pageant?” Raymond asked.
“Yes sir.” Nancy replied.
“Let the two o’clock this afternoon remain as it is.” Raymond instructed.
“Okay sir.” Nancy smiled.
“You will represent me in the meeting as well as represent the company. Have the PR unit and Finance notified ahead and brief them after the meeting.” Raymond dropped the shocker.
“Sir, I don’t understand…..” She stammered.
By now they were outside his office. “Get me coffee please.” He said as he pushed opened the door and walked in. As soon as he shut the door behind himself, he leaned against the door as the thought which had disturbed his sleep for days came back in a rush.
Even though he wanted to believe everything is fine between him and Natasha, his subconscious will not let him be. Judging from how they parted the other night, he knew just about anybody would be offended, but he hoped Tasha doesn’t read meanings into his statement.
“Call her.” A voice whispered.
Just as he brought out his phone to make the call he could hear an angry voice and a calm persuasive voice outside the hallway.
“I’m sorry sir, but he just stepped in now, he can’t host visitors until he clears me to send them in.” That was Nancy, his assistant.
“Well, young lady I am not a visitor here and I demand to see Raymond right now.” The angry masculine voice replied.
Now, Raymond could tell whoever the man was is someone very close to him, as he is not on a first name bases with a lot people.
“I’m afraid you may have to come back.” Nancy replied.
“Come back? To see my friend?”
“I’m afraid so sir. It is nowhere on the calendar today that Mr. Raymond would host any friend or acquaintance in his office.”
“Step away and let me in.” The man threatened.
Raymond knew he was supposed to step out and settle things but with Alk he had on his mind, he possibly couldn’t add another drama to it.
“If you know what is good for you.”
“I’m sorry sir, but this is protocol. You can’t see the CEO without an advance notification through my office.” Nancy replied. “The only people who can see him without such are his immediate family members, fiancé and the co-CEO of this company.”
“What is going on here?” Halima, the Secretary to the CEO’s office asked as she walked in.
“Good morning ma’am.” Nancy greeted.
“Nancy, good morning.” Halima replied. “Good morning sir.” She greeted Raheem.
“Halima, what’s happening on this floor? When did we have a PA to the CEO’s office?”
“It was a decision of the HR.” Halima replied.
“Is Raymond in?” Raheem asked.
Halima looked at Nancy for confirmation to which she nodded in affirmation. “He is sir.”
Without another word, Raheem side stepped the two ladies and walked towards Raymond’s office.
Nancy gave up on protocol after all, he immediate supervisor, Halima was present and that means she can’t do anything except to watch. And judging from the frequent use of ‘sir’ by Halima, She knew it was far from being polite. The man called her by her first name and that implies that they knew each other.
“Who is he?” Nancy whispered.
“The co-CEO.” Halima replied.
The shock and fear was clearly written on Nancy’s face.
“He is a nice man, nothing will happen.” Halima assured her.

Inside Raymond’s office

“You were in here the whole time and your toothless dog was been disrespecting me?” Raheem asked as he took a seat. “I bet my voice was loud enough and you heard me or do we now have sound proof doors too?”
“Didn’t know it was you.” Raymond replied.
Raheem chuckled. “Like seriously?”
“Yeah. I swear.” Raymond replied.
“Away from that, how come your PA doesn’t know me?”
“The same reason everyone on this floor doesn’t know much about their co-CEO. You are never around.” Raymond replied.
“Fair point.” Raheem laughed. “And when do I get my own personal assistant?” He asked. “I don’t even have a secretary. Cos the last I heard, my Secretary was transferred to PR.”
“You do not get a Personal assistant cos you don’t need one. And about your secretary, she was doing virtually nothing cos you never show up at work. And the company doesn’t pay pension.” Raymond replied.
Raheem laughed. “You don’t mean all these, do you?”
“Of course I do. I’m thinking of turning your office into a Suya and barbecue joint with palm wine to go cos you are never there.” Raymond replied.
“You are not going to do that. And even you know I have been very frequent in the last few months.” Raheem replied.
“And in the last one week you have been absent.” Raymond fired back. “I will use your salary to buy tricycle and empower the area boys who sits idle at my estate junction.”
Raheem was enjoying himself. Such was the banter he threw around with his best friend and even though Raymond always winning he enjoys being the victim.
“On a more serious note, where have you been?” Raymond asked.
“Ikare.” Raheem replied.
“Ikare in Ondo state?” Raymond asked with eyes wide open.
Ikare is Raheem’s father’s ancestral home, even though he claims Lagos as his state of Origin, their family members are still in Ikare.
“Everything alright?”
Raheem took a deep breath before responding. “Dad is thinking of returning home.”
“How?” Raymond asked with a confused look.
“He is retiring from politics and public life. Leaving the stage for we the youths. And he figured out that the peace and tranquility abundant there in Ikare is what he needs.” Raheem explained.
“That’s a lot to take in bro.” Raymond remarked.
The two friends discussed for a little while longer until Raheem stood up to leave.
“See you at the club tonight.” He said.
Raymond smiled. “I am no longer that club guy.”
“Why? Cos you are engaged now right?” Raheem asked rhetorically. “Bro, it is only engage you engage, if you come marry nko?”
“It’s not even about my engagement. You know sometimes, a man has to become responsible.” Raymond replied.
There was a knock on the door and Raymond’s assistant, Nancy, walked in.
“P.A, I hope you know me now?” Raheem asked.
“Very well sir, and I am deeply sorry for what happened earlier.” Nancy replied.
“See you later bro.” Raymond said shaking hands with Raheem.
“Yeah. And thanks for subtly calling me irresponsible.” Raheem replied.
As soon as he shut the door behind him he waited and a minute later, Nancy emerged from the office.
“What time do you get off work?” Raheem asked as they walked down the hallway.
“Six thirty.” She replied.
“Meet me at Teq club, I’ll love to buy you a drink.”
As Raheem rode the elevator back to the ground floor, his mind wandered back to the discussion he had with Raymond. “How come he didn’t bring up the issue of the IPO?” He thought as he left the company’s premises.

CHAPTER 10

It was the first time since getting engaged that Natasha is spending time with Raymond. And here she was, spending the night in his apartment.
Raymond was seated in the living room making a phone call, and all his attention seems to be devoted to whoever is at the other end of the line.
“Sir, we are committed to safeguarding lives and properties, but this expansion and investment is necessary.” He said to into the receiver. “I am very well aware of the fact that we need to go public before we can expand, but I want to be sure that the Government will support our expansion after going public.” He added. “Very well sir. I will be in Abuja, first thing tomorrow morning. Goodnight.” With this he dropped the phone.
Tasha who has been standing all the while sat down beside him. “Who was that?” She asked.
“The minister for Trade and Investment.” Raymond replied.
“What was that about?” She asked.
“I believe it is high time we expanded our frontiers and became independent of some things. But we need to get our IPO done before that.” He explained.
“That’s a very huge step.” Tasha said quietly. “I hope you get it done successfully.”
“Amen. Is dinner ready?” He asked.
“In five minutes.” She replied as she stood up to go check what she had on fire. She only took two steps before she stopped and turned to face her fiancé. “Don’t you think we should talk about your political ambition?”
“I’m listening.” Raymond replied.
“When did you agree to contest for a seat in the Senate and why would you go ahead without at least informing me. And I got to know at the same time when the public got to know?”
Raymond kept quiet for a while. “I’m sorry you weren’t pre-informed, but Dad offered me the ticket the night he invited us for dinner which you missed. I couldn’t turn him down cos the party wanted someone from his family to run. He couldn’t trust anybody except me. I he invited you so you could have a say, but in your absence and judging by the timeline the party gave, we needed to communicate our decision to the party that same night, so he told me to decide based on what you are cool with.”
“And you think I am cool with you playing politics?” Tasha asked.
“No. In fact, I knee you would say no and I cannot afford that. I have always had political dreams and ambitions and I can’t let you discourage me from pursuing it.”
“Darling, politics is risky, ungodly and meant for the heartless. You are none of those people. You can’t fit in. You can’t play by their rules.”
“If my dad could play politics even when he was called unfit and he became a state governor, I think I can play too.” Raymond replied.
“Politics is not like that. Your dad is your dad, with his distinct charisma and charm. You are you and you are not fit for politics.” She tried to make him see from her standpoint. “Loom at it this way, OBJ is a former President but none of his children are in politics, Atiku is a former Vice president and no other Atiku is in politics. Even the great Awolowo, Azikiwe, Abiola, none of their children played politics.”
“Iyabo Obasanjo used to be a Senator.” Raymond replied in his defense.
“Makes no difference.” Tasha downplayed his point.
“Why didn’t you mention Tinubu?”
Clearly, she knew nothing she said would make him bulge.
“Dinner is ready.” She announced storming off into the kitchen.
Less than three minutes later, dinner was served and the couple sat at the dinning room.
“How’s the chicken?” Tasha asked.
“Well boiled, perfectly fried and the taste is outta this world.” Raymond replied. “I’m afraid I will bite my tongue.”
He added with a chuckle.
Tasha smiled. If nothing, she is as sure as hell about he culinary skill and she doesn’t hide them. Having learnt from the best, her Aunt who doubled as her foster mother for many years maintained catering as a side job.
“Thanks.” She replied.
Her ringing phone was what caught her attention. She excused herself and went into the living room where her phone was.
“I don’t understand how this thing is called a mobile phone but it is less mobile than it ought to be.” Raymond commented.
“Na you sabi.” She sneered.
She spoke in low tones with the caller more than three minutes and by the time she returned to the dinning table, Raymond was almost done eating.
“Who is that?” He asked as he took a large chunk of the chicken into his mouth.
“It’s my Aunt.” She replied. “I have to go home now.”
She rushed into the bedroom, reappeared almost immediately with her handbag and her car key dangling on her fingers.
“Calm down and tell me whatever the problem is.” Raymond almost shouted.
“It’s Philip. He is in trouble and I don’t know how much trouble he is in. But the way my Aunt sounded on the phone, I think it is very serious.”
“Can’t they handle it, what if you are out of the country?” He asked.
“I won’t be able to sleep knowing that my son is in trouble. I have to be there.”
“Are we ever gonna have time for each other? If our jobs is not causing the hindrance, your son is.” Raymond complained.
Tasha leaned forward, kissed him. “I’m very sorry, but we will fix it.” With this she walked towards the exit. “Goodnight.”
Once she was inside her car, she ignited the car engine and slowly drove out of the compound. Her mind flashed back to the events of the day and one particular thought lingering in her mind, refusing to leave is the discussion she had with Raymond less than three minutes ago.
“Is Raymond complaining about Philip?” She asked aloud. “He better not be.” She concluded.

———

There comes a time in the life of man when certain habits intensifies and some others stops. Such was the case with Raheem and his best friend and business partner, Raymond. Since the latter’s engagement, he appears to be more withdrawn from some of the social activities he is known for. Raymond now feels the need and urgency to go home once work closes everyday, contrary to what was obtained before when 10pm is just the beginning of a wonderful evening.
Raheem sat on either side of two top ranking staff at RayRah petroleum. Even though they were both his employees, they often find time out to relate outside the confines of their workplace and chat as friends. And with Raymond out of the picture, Raheem is out with them.
“Raheem, are you ever gonna get married?” One of the men, a Director of the Company’s finance department.
“Marriage is a scam. A restriction and a life punishment.” Raheem replied.
“And Raymond is about entering one.” The second man, the head of HR remarked.
“He will learn.” Raheem replied.
“You know, it is funny how a known player like Raymond will be preparing to settle down while a non-player like Raheem are not even thinking of dating.” The Finance director said thoughtfully.
“And who told you Raheem is not a player? He is always around the HR department looking for which employee he can prey o. He is a lowkey player.” The HR manager replied.
“Even in my presence you are talking about me.” Raheem joked. “But even if I am a player, I never impregnated any staff at any point in time, did I?”
“None that I could think of.” The head of HR replied. “And last year, we covered a major scandal up.” He added.
“Talking of scandal, is the company going public?” The Finance director asked.
“No, we are not.” Raheem replied. “In the next three five years, it is not on the table.”
“My department is hosting a group of external auditors next week for a full blown audit of our accounts and possible cover ups before we present it before the board.” The Finance director explained. “And I don’t know why we need external auditors.”
“And why we have to present the report to the board at this time of the year.” The head of HR added. “Raheem, what are you not telling us?”
Even though he heard the question, he couldn’t reply because him mind was far away, filled with series of thoughts. How come the company is pushing for an IPO and he as the co-CEO is not aware? And he even sits on the board as a member and he is not aware of any board meeting coming up except for the quarterly meeting which is not in another two months.
“Maybe, Raymond has answers to his questions.” He thought as he downed the content of his cup. “That’s enough drink for a night. One of you should foot the bill.” He said as he stood up.
“Drive safe boss.” They hailed as he exited the bar.
As soon as he was out of sight, the two men face each other with a shocked look on their faces. “Are you thinking what I am thinking?”
“I am too scared to think what you are thinking.”

CHAPTER 9

Joel walked into the living room buttoning up his shirt as he walked, a hair comb was hanging in his hair. He seemed to be in a rush as he tried to do everything at once.
“You dey go out?” His cousin, Ike asked from where he was lying on the couch.
“Yeah, I am going to the hospital.” He replied.
“But you just came back this morning, aren’t you done with your Samaritan act?” Ike queried.
“As at when I left, she wasn’t awake, hopefully she will be by now.”
“To what end? Is it so she can thank you?” Ike asked.
“No, just that it doesn’t make any sense if I just drop her and take off. And like I told you, the lady has a story and I want to hear it.” Joel explained.
“Okay, just go with your key.” With this, Ike buried his face into the pillow. That was enough to tell Joel that the conversation was over.
“See you later bro.” He said as he left the apartment.
Once he was outside the apartment, he started to walk down the street, hoping he would encounter a stray bike which would hasten his arrival at the bus stop. But so far, there hasn’t been any stray unoccupied bike and that means a ten to fifteen minutes walk to the bus stop.
“Hi.” A feminine voice greeted.
“Hello.” Joel replied stopping in his tracks as he waited for the young lady to catch up.
“Good morning sir.” She greeted with a bow.
Out of reflex and to be sure, he checked his watch. It was a little past 11AM.
“Good morning ma.” He replied according her the same respect.
“Sir, I am a stranger in this neighborhood and my car broke down. It seems like a minor fault, but I don’t know who to call.”
That was when Joel remembered walking past a ash colored Toyota Camry XLE(Muscle) and a damsel standing next to it.
Even though he had theoretical knowledge of how to fix some basic faults in Toyota cars, he has never practiced on a real car. But seeing a damsel in distress, it appears his calling is helping damsels in distress.
“Let’s go.” He said as they both began to walk back towards the car.
“I hope you won’t be late to where you were going?” She asked.
“No, it’s nowhere serious.” Joel replied.
When they got to the car, the first thing noticed was the balance of the car on a tarred road which is neither sloppy nor steeply. “Ma’am, it appears you have a flat tyre.” He announced.
“Seems so.” She replied with a sly smile. “I had to fake a small fault because I couldn’t bring myself to tell you I have a flat.” She added.
“I don’t expect you to be able to fix a tyre.” Joel replied. “I hope you have a spare?” He asked.
“It’s in the trunk. Let me open it for you.” She replied as she opened the driver’s side to automatically open the car trunk.
Joel removed his shirt as he got to work.
“You don’t expect me to be able to fix a tyre. I’m sensing some male superiority.” She said moments later.
“No offense, but not every woman can fix a tyre.” Joel replied. “Are you a feminist?”
“Every woman should be a feminist.” The lady replied with a chuckle. “But I’m just a lawyer.” She added.
“I’m Evelyn by the way.” She said.
“Joel.”
Ten minutes later, Joel was done fixing the spare tyre.
“Here is water to wash your hands.” She handed him a bottle of water which she had bought while he worked.
“Thanks. Could you please pour some on my hands.” He requested giving the bottle back to her.
Moments later, he was ready to leave. “Since I cut short your journey, why not let me drive you to the bus stop to ease your stress.” She requested.
On a normal day, Joel would have rejected such request, but looking how shinny the sun was, the work and expertise he put into getting her car fixed, he knew he had earned it. He hopped into the passenger seat and slowly, she eased the car back unto the road.
The car stereo came back alive as American singer, Adele’s Rolling in the deep was playing.
“ There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch, it’s bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see you crystal clear…” Joel sang along quietly.
“Never would have figured you for an Adele fan?” She asked.
“Rolling in the deep is a classic.” Joel replied.
The drive to the bus stop was an interesting one as they argued about their respective favorite music artistes.
Turns out they both love rap music, but while Joel is a fan of Remy Ma, Evelyn is a fan of Nicki Minaj. To drive his point home, he kept on dropping lines from Remy Ma’s ‘ShETHER’ a Nicki Minaj diss.
“Drop me here.” He said when they got to the junction.
“I wish this conversation will never end.” She said as she slowly brought the car to a halt.
“Same here, but there is always another time.” He replied.
She dipped her hand into her handbag as she pulled out of bunch of cards. “Here is my card. Call me.” She said as she handed her complimentary card to him.
“I will.” He replied as he alighted. “Don’t forget to fix your deflated tyre. So you have a spare.” He added.
She waited another minute staring at his figure as he walked through the crowd, all rushing for the BRT. With a smile plastered on her face, she drove off.

St. Paulsen hospital

Melania was seated on the bed inside the emergency ward of the hospital, her friends, Amina and Victoria were seated beside her, each holding one of her hands.
“How are you feeling now?” Amina asked.
“Much better, but light headed.” She replied.
“Sorry.” They said in unison.
“By the way, how did you guy know I am here?” Melania asked. “And the nurse mentioned some young man.”
“A guy called and referred us here even though he had left before we came here this morning.” Victoria replied.
“We wanted to come yesterday, but he assured us that you were safe and he is gonna keep watch over you.” Amina added.
“Wow! A stranger?” Melania thought aloud.
“What do you remember?” Tori asked.
“Some guys gossiping about me and me trying to school them, then I lost my balance and a pair of strong hands grabbed me.” Melania recounted the events from the previous day.
“Good afternoon and welcome to hip TV’s celebrity gossip weekly.” The beautiful face a TV show host popped up on the flat screen TV on the wall. “Today we have line up quite a number of news and gist, but hottest and most interesting of them all is the engagement of oil magnate, Raymond J….”
Tori grabbed the remote control and switched off the TV.
“Why would you do that?” Melanie asked.
“Cos your story may still be discussed.” Tori replied.
“I am not a celeb.” Melania replied.
“Don’t mind her, Raymond got engaged yesterday.” Amina replied.
“Are you serious?” Melania asked. “To who?”
“That witch called Natasha.” Amina replied.
“Seriously, men are scum. After everything that happened in Abuja?” Melania asked.
Just then a knock sounded on the door. “Come in.” Melenia said and immediately, the door was pushed opened and a cute face appeared.
“Hi, may I come in?” The cute guy asked.
“Come in.” Melania replied.
The tall and well built guy walked in. From his appearance, one could tell he is not rich, judging from the quality of his clothes.
“I’m glad to see you are okay now.” He said to Melania as he stopped beside her bed with a smile.
“Were you the one who….?” She asked with an expectant look on her face. One who would be disappointed if he said no.
“Yes, I was the one.” Joel replied.
Out of nowhere, Melania, threw herself on him as she enveloped him in a tight hug. “Thank you very much, this means a lot to me. I really appreciate.” She said.
He could feel his heartbeat increasing.
Why was he nervous?

From the beginning of this wonderful work, our comments have been taking the larger part of this great work.
I'd suggest that, whatever u've got to say, make it short n brief with facts.. No nid 4 all dis unnecessary talks n comments.
