that hybrid high pv sef dey fear me! Like whooping 500V to 400V for person house.

Which is even more severe in electrocution between a 220ac and 400v DC.

And another thing have been thinking about, betwn a 200v/20A and a 400v/10A source which would cause more damage?

I still feel for homes make PV array dey around 100 to 150 range for safety. Just my thought sha!

You shouldn't worry about high voltage if you already use 220V comfortably, you plug in devices without even thinking twice, your High Voc has MC4 connections, and it's only at a spot in your own which must be treated with Caution.

Budget wise, don't you think changing the 60a CC to 80a CC can give him better performance?
If I'm working on 12v system, the max inverter capacity I go for is 1.5kw. Anything above this capacity will move me to 24v system.

I recommended the 80A for 24V system as this is CC only.

Hello Everyone,

We're a family of 4 moving to Ikoyi, Lagos. We'll be mainly in Ikoyi-Lekki-VI area 99% of the time.

Looking for 4 Sim Cards and not sure what to choose...both Airtel and MTN websites are confusing.

Priority is internet as we'll be mostly using WhatsApp, Facebook, Netflix, etc...5G is not a priority for now.

Assuming each line needs 30-50 GB per month, which of the 2 networks is more cost-effective?

I'd appreciate a simple comparison that shows how much per month gives how many GBs.

Thanks in advance...
G-Man

All network has similar rates.. no much difference
Those areas have Fiber broadband you pay based on bandwidth its cheaper than mobile date, buy your line first and enquire about broadband when you land Nigeria.
get your 2 Airtel and 2 MTN for calls and data.. just to be safe in case one network is down.. you can also get Glo as back up.

Please experts in the house help me fine tune this setup.
Can these listed solar items power my load without stress.
The freezer and TV will be on only between 9 am to 5 pm.
The 3 fans will be on all night.
The 6 LED bulbs will be on up to about 10 pm

Load :
140 watts hisense chest freezer
50 watts hisense TV
10 watts Gotv decoder
6 pcs 5watts bulb
3 pcs 30 watts AC/DC fan
3 phone charging point

The setup:

2.5 kW inverter
60a mppt cc
1400 watts solar panel

12 v 210ah lifep04 battery

60A CC with 1400w panel on a 12V system is a waste of resources.
with these loads, you need at least a 2000w panel, switch the batteries to 24V 105ah use 80A controller or 48V 50Ah LFP to maintain the 60A controller
Hybrid Inverter would have been a better choice.
My recommendation for this kind of load is 24V 2KW Hybrid with 80A MPPT, 2000watts panel to use during the day also to recharge, 24V, 210Ah LFP to power night loads

This fan is just a very perfect DC fan, I have been using it for about 3 years now, I don't usually go beyond speed 3 while it's on battery. I use other high speeds if there is Nepa light. One thing I just noticed about the fan is that the speeds level on battery are a little slower than when it's on direct Nepa light

it is capped at 36W on the DC so it ranged up to 2w to 36w, and 3 to 65W on AC input

Can a 1.5hp AC (inverter AC) run on a 2.5kva inverter.

Would the inverter be able to even start concerning the surge

It should as there is no Surge on inverter AC, it starts from low power and adjusts up until final power limit is reached.

Good morning all, thanks to those who responded to my question on my fridge, a repairer fixed it yesterday.

Is there any ceiling fan that consumes very low power? Like 10 to 20w?

Get QASA AC/DC, it's the best, it goes from 1 to 9.. 4watts to 65watts. most time you'll use 4 to 6 that only 12wats to 25watts.
7 8 9 are on another level.. consumes 36w, 45 and 65watts but omo, you don't want to use those always.
I use 2 or 3 for all day just for continued ventilation which is good enough 7 and 10 watts
I shared a picture here some time ago of the power consumption by Levels. I can't find the pictures now.

Exactly, why I offered my WhatsApp app number for you to contact, there are things I may need to explain properly, this group is a DIY group, and the purpose is to do things yourself, that 5KW inverter and batteries, can be gotten very cheap the DIY way!

I will not disclose this here. As you can see people are posting ads here for finished products. you already have an idea of what things cost.

600k for a temp stop gap solution pending when I purchase the 5kw system before Dec. The stop gap solution should be solar recharge, LiFePo4 battery, be able to carry 2 laptops, 1 standing fan, one 55 inch LG smart TV, one PS5 console at least 16 hrs in a day and 6 white energy bulbs security lights switched on at night.

This alone, you need to plan for 3KWH Generated, a PS5 consumes about 160 to 200w. with your budget just was till December.
1KW Panel will achieve that, 300K is already gone, so the installer's quotation might be very appropriate!

Wow that's 1280watts. Hope the 60a wouldn't be too much charge for battery? My battery is a lipo4 12v 173ah
How many Cs can the battery take

You are using a good Batteriy chemistry that allows charging up to 0.5C continuously.
60A on a 173AH batteries is 60/173C that is 0.35C.. So you are fine.

Also note, since the charge controller is limited to 60A If you have inverte powered on, most people tend to use their Fridge during peak periods, so, in essence, your 60A is reduced to about 40A (or less depending on load), left to charge the batteries, so Not all 60A will charge the batteries except you always shut down inverter to charge which may not be the case.

I finished the test this morning. A total of 263ah was drawn and 13.6kwh equally consumed while the 20ah was left in the battery.
Next month, I will experiment Bathero cells and Hithium cells. I will also carry out the capacity test on them.

This is half test, You should discharge completely to 2.5V per cell.. you don't assume its 20AH left in the batteries.

Is 120A BMS not too much for 105Ah battery?
Considering the BMS will make it draw amps greater than the battery.

Having a 120A BMS does not mean BMS will draw 120A from Batteries, it only means you have enough capacity and headroom. which means your BMS will run cooler and last longer.
Just like having a 5KW inverter to run only a Fan or charge your phone, it does mean your inverter will push 5KW to the fan. or refrigerator.

The higher the BMS capacity the better, the 105AH Batteries can deliver up to 2C which is 210A... this allows for Surge.
Just like Inverters have 2X surge rating.

Most users won't charge and discharge at more than 30A continuous, and up to 80A burst.

Drawing 120A from a 105AH Capacity means the backup time will be around 50 Minutes, not sure people will do that.

Hi everyone,

I have 2 335 watt panels with :
1. Maximum power voltage ( 37.6 V ).
2. Maximum power current ( 8.91 A ).

* If the 2 panels are connected in series,
Output = 8.91 A and 75.2 Volts

* If the 2 panels are connected in parallel,
Output = 17.82 A and 37.6 Volts

Just to confirm if the above calculation is correct?

My 60 amps PWM is delivering a maximum of 8.7 A at peak and voltage as high as 65 volts during float with the panels in parallel connection.

This is a 12V setup ( 220 amps tubular battery and battery hardly gets full in a day without usage during the day.

Just to confirm if my connection was done right.

Simple answer, Get an MPPT Contoller. and use the Panel in Parallel.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Dam5reey(m): 10:11am On Apr 04
RickyM:

Thanks for the swift response.
My old connection is 2 in series (60v 8.2A) consecutively making three pair of 2 panels in series then parallel them together making it (60v 24.6A)… in an ideal condition the panel won’t output 8.2A as that’s just its rating, the best would be that it output 21A but if I connect everything in parallel then that would mean (30.8V and 42A) which is still under its rating.
Do you think 30.8V is enough for a 24V system?
I will get a new charge controller for the 300W panels as you’ve suggested.
MMPT charge controllers aren’t cheap and it’s efficiency difference ain’t that much according to the series of YouTube videos I’ve came across.

Exactly my guess, You are only using 3 panels.. all these while..
A PWM controller provides your batteries with the maximum available current, wasting excess Voltage.
So you connected 60V 24.6A to a PWM. Even in full Sun, it will supply your batteries with 28V at 24.6A. excess voltages or 3 extra panels wasted.

But if you do it all in Parallel. You will have 30.8V at 49.2A input and your batteries will charge at 28V at 49.2A.
Here you are pushing too much current, you need High Guage Wires, which is expensive!

With MPPT, you can maintain the 2 in series and 3 set in parallel.
With MPPT, you are receiving the same 60V 24.6A.. your batteries will receive 28V at about 49.2A.. because MPPT will converter excess Voltage to current.

2. When you say MPPTs are expensive.. and you are only getting 840 watts from a possible 1680w..?
You can use PWM. But connect it properly and size the cable properly too.

When I was using a PWM Controller on 24V system, I purposely Bought 280W panels with 30V VMP... and a higher current.
Because I understand how to optimize each Device wether PWM or MPPT. it's all about understanding.

3. Yes, 30.8VMP is the sweet spot for 24V if you are using PWM.

The old 280W panel output 30.8V and 8.2A while the new panel output 39.8-40.2V. I have not get the new charge controller so I can’t say what the cc is.
My hybrid inverter has an inbuilt charge controller that charges my battery before.
A picture of my inverter specification is attached below

The Answer is simple Get an MPPT controller for the New Set of 300w panels..

Your Inbuild Charge controller is only 50A and PWM. interesting to know how you connected the 6, 280w panels.. the best efficiency is to connect all 6 in Parallel. but I doubt that's the case.

If possible, Get 2 external controllers, 1 for the 280W set and a second for the 300W set.
The inbuilt CC is not efficient enough..

Hello great people🫡🫡🫡
Good morning to y’all, please I need your opinion about this.
I have a solar setup before using 6 pieces of 280w panel but now that I got a bigger battery I bought another 6 pieces of panel but now 300W.
Should I connect the 6 pieces 300W I’ve just bought to the 6pieces of 280W I have with me before in the normal 2 series connection and then parallel them together afterwards or I should rather get a separate charge controller for the 6 pieces of 300W I’ve just bought and run the connection differently which will mean my hybrid inverter will be charging the battery and also the new charge controller I will be getting will also be charging the battery.

Incomplete data..
Provide the Panel data as well as the inbuilt CC data..

please help. Someone installed this mppt charge controller for my mum and it has burnt twice at this same point (where wires from the solar panels connect to the charge controller).
Happened first time, he replaced it and it happened again. He was about collecting money from her to buy another one again but this time she reached out to me.

It’s a 12v 1kw inverter system with 6x 180w solar panels and 200ah battery. She uses it at her store for a small fridge, a desktop computer and fan.

Is this a problem with the power from the solar panels being too much? Or the charge controller is thrash?

Please help. Any insight appreciated.

Your Solar Charge controller is a Cheap PWM type, they get so hot as they can barely handle what they are rated for. this 60A CC shouldn't handle more than 20 to 30A input as its elcheapo..
6, 180W Panel is pushing close to 60A to the Charge controller that's why it gets burnt.

Get an MPPT charge controller and change the Solar configuration to 3s2P. current will be reduced at input and you will be able to charge your batteries more efficiently.

Good morning house. I want to buy a Mercury 1.5kva hybrid inverter, a single 220ah battery and two 420w solar panels.

Will this setup be OK for charging of phones and laptop, one fan and a fridge (the fridge will be on for maybe 2 hours in the daytime during float charge)?

More importantly, kindly let me know the other things I will need to buy along with the inverter like surge protector, wires, etc and I will appreciate if the amount for each of them can also be put along with it. Thanks

Yes, This is very much like it. Your Batteries and Solar are well matched with the Load.
You can get a programmable timer for the Fridge on from 11 and off by 3 or as observed.

1. If your BMS does not come with the ability to communicate with your inverter and fellow BMS, it may be good, but not good enough. Premium BMSes on premium lithium batteries are able to communicate with each other to synchronize charging and discharging.

2. No, you don't need battery communications to parallel batteries, however, it is good to have. It makes your batteries work together better. For dumb lead acid batteries, there may not be any need, but for smart batteries with smart BMSes, communications between batteries make for better overall experience and health of the batteries.

3. Finally, if it is so useless, premium brands like BYD, Pylontech, Seplo etc will not put it on their systems.

You are missing the point.. topic is about parallel connection, not communication..
