I am so glad that NL is not a true representation of Naija. The level of ignorance and gross bigotted idiocy here is alarming. So many id.io.ts just running their mouths here. A president goes on an hostoric reform of the NPF, first of its kind in the history of Nigeria and you lot who are suffering from acute cynicism crawl out of your disgusting holes to once again try to take the shine away from the event. You lot are pathetic. This is the most sweeping reform that have ever been carried out in the police force. Do you know what it is to retire the whole DIGs. You guys have absolutely no clue. Politics / Re: How Can We End Corruption In Nigeria: From Top To Bottom, Or Bottom To Top? by dmainboss: 3:26pm On Jan 20, 2012 |
Reading thru these posts, I feel like crying because most of us dont even know what our problem is in Nigeria. Many of you just make cliches like top to bottom or bottom to top. Those are very vague statements. I have said over and over again that corruption is not the problem of Nigeria. Corruption is a result of the problem, not the problem itself. There are fundamentals that must be dealt with and the most important of those is the establishment of true federalism and the complete overhaul of our constitution. The constitution of Nigeria is the single most important factor that facilitates corruption. Once we can develop a new constitution that esponges all the loopholes on which corruption thrives, then we are on course. Crap like federal character, structure of government are major corruption loopholes. How can a constitution say you must appoint a minister from each state. So if you cant get someone who is credible from a state, what do you do? What of the composition of people in federal parastatals, the real coven of corruption. We always fight politicians in Nigeria, but we keep forgetting that these politicians cannot operate without the aid of government people in the various ministries. And by government people, i do not necessarily mean ministers. I am talkign about the foot soldiers and middle management. Have you gone to Abuja to see the cars these government workers drive. You will feel sick. It has become a real epidemic and God help us. One of the problems I had with the last protest was the morality of corrupt people claiming they are fighting against corruption. It is like a man fighting against himself. The only person I can stand behind in Nigeria and fight against corruption is Chief Gani Fawehimi. evry other person parading out there as anti corruption are all a bunch of goats. Femi Falana, Buhari, Tam David West, El Rufai and the lot out there are very corrupt guys. The guys that really made me laugh were the Nigerian artists talking about fighting corruption. It really made me feel bad. They are corruption personified. They even claimed government should cut down on waste. I was shocked because they are the biggest beneficiaries of government waste. Imagine an artist collecting N4m for performing a 3 minute track in a government function. That is the definition of waste. We just need something to happen to change our hearts in Nigeria because we are deceiving ourselves when we talk about fighting corruption. I dare say all the guys posting on this thread are a bunch of corrupt duds |
TV/Movies / Re: Nigeria's Nollywood Eclipsing Hollywood In Africa by dmainboss: 2:22pm On Jan 18, 2012 |
Nigeria and Nigerians are so full of lies and propaganda. Instead of them to commit their effort to producing quality, they produce crap and try to do propaganda. 1. Nigeria does not do movies. They do home videos. There is a big difference. So please stop saying we have a movie industry not to talk of competing with Holywood. 2. Nigerians dotn even watch the so called crap. The highest selling movies in Nigeria right now are American series like 24, Legend of the Seeker, Spactarcus and Pillars of the earth. Nollywood is crap that only a few illiterates watch. 3. The problem is not money because I have many of these guys as friends. Amata was given $500, 000 to shoot Amazing Grace and he still produced a sub-standard crap. If you give a Director money to produce movie, he will first remove his share which can be as much as 60 percent of the whle money before he does anything. We are not ready for serious business 4. A typical Nigerian home video does not sell more than 20, 000 copies. Go find out. Ghana movies have taken over because they are far better 4. All the movies we produce in a year does not gross as much revenue as 1 regular Hollywood movie We are just blowing hype here in Naija. We should stop deceiving ourselves and start building a new future |

Politics / Re: Labour Calls Off Strike! by dmainboss: 6:05pm On Jan 16, 2012 |
I said it from day one that labor were going to shoot themselves in the foot. They have showed great inexperience in the handling of this crisis. This is where you have to duff your hat for Oshiomole. Having been a part of many protest myself even from my school days, I knew they had made some very major blunders with their approach. Their blunders left a lot of loopholes in the strike and boxed themselves to a corner. Some of their mistakes were: 1. You never ever take an extreme stand in a government labor dispute. You can take a hard stand, but you must always leave room for negotiations. Labor from day one allowed the sentiments of some clueless NGOs to influence them and took an extreme stance. They said they would never go back to the negotiating table until the government announces a reversal. No government will ever succumb to that. That is at best completely st.u.p.i.d and will always backfire. Labor is employed by government not by NGOs. It is like the fight between a husband and wife. Any third party that comes in between will eventually get the stick. In this case, labor became the unfaithful wife that decided to bring in an outsider to intimidate her husband. Foolish move! 2. When you do 1 above, you put yourself on the back-foot when you eventually come to the table. Also 1 above made the negotiations to start very late. At this time, the FG had gathered enough feedback and security reports to plan better and call the shots. 3. They allowed opposition politicians to take over the protest. Now before some of you defend that, consider this. There is a big difference between a mas action called by opposition groups and industrial strike by labor. They both have different rules and different outlooks. On top of that, there was no unanimous opposition support because the opposition actually supported the removal but only kept mute because they didnt want to offend the people. This created a real loophole. The opposition did not have the full moral power to protest. some say it is within the rights of politicians to hijack such protest. Well I completely disagree in a multi political state like Nigeria. There is a complete distrust amongst the various sections of Nigeria. So any protest can easily transform into a clamor for power shift. That is the reality of the day. And that was what people like Bakare brought to the table. The problem with that is that, those who seek power shift cannot seek it through mass action except they have the total support of the country. Unlike Libya and Egypt, they dont have that total support. 4. This one is interesting. They didnt consider a very subtle but key loophole. They didnt consider the fact that, though they were fighting a "good" cause on behalf of the masses, the corrupt oil dealers where as much beneficiaries of the strike as the masses. This was a big irony. I saw that loophole from day one and expected labor to find a way to maneuver themselves out of that but they didnt. That situation brought a moral question to the protest. Yes the loud voices of the mob tried hard to shut that down, but it was never going to go away. It was always going to be a recurring decimal in the whole saga. It also created a big moral problem for the labor leaders. There was always going to be the suspicion they were being sponsored. There was always going to be the issues that a return to N65 was a return to a cabal controlled Nigeria. These are just my thoughts. I think that labor showed a lot of inexperience in the handling of this strike. I dont think they were bribed by government. People are too quick to say negative things because they have never worked in government circles. The situation on the ground didnt need government to bribe anyone. There are people whose job it is to do these kind of negotiations and believe me, they are good at it. they are what you might call evil geniuses. They know how to exploit all these loopholes I have stated. Some where too quick to say GEJ was not on top of the situation. But the silence for 4 days by the government shows he was on the driving seat all along. The ignorance of many here on NL is that GEJ actually works as one man. He never works as one man. He works as a team. There are people paid to handle crisis and they are well funded to research and act. Their reports give government the tools to navigate these waters. They get it wrong sometimes, but they always know how to regroup and restrategize. |

Politics / Re: Fuel Subsidy: Presidency Queries Fashola Over Lagos Crowd by dmainboss: 2:00pm On Jan 14, 2012 |
I have said it a thousand times that there is nothing like one Nigeria. I am being vindicated here once again. You can see the speed at which ACN supporters and Yorubas have come out en mass to defend Fashola and even try to portray that he is not in support of the fuel subsidy removal. Non of the governors have come out to oppose the removal because they actually started this call for the removal. Even Tinubu in an interview last week did not really oppose the removal but kicked against the method and supported a phased removal. But once again, ACN members and Yoruba peeps (definitely not all of them, we still have objective people like @seun) will rise to defend their own. I dont have a problem with that really. I only have a problem with their continued claim that they are fighting for Nigeria and their fake stance that we are one country. I have many Yoruba friends and dont have anything against the Yoruba race, but it is important for us to admit we are not one and we are not united. Then we can now sit down properly to discuss our union. This is the only way forward and anything else will just be a futile attempt to postpone the evil day. It will surely come no matter how long it tarries. I do believe that somehow, recent events have accelerated the process and anything can happen from here on. |
Politics / So Why Cant Labour Expose Corruption? by dmainboss: 7:08pm On Jan 13, 2012 |
I have something i have been mulling in my mind for a while. Everyone keeps saying NLC/TUC should demand accountability from the Government and demand that government should fight corruption. Labor have also come out to demand accountability from the government. So I have a few questions to ask: 1. Is labor different from government? Apart from the political appointees of the president, which are quite few in comparison, All of Labor are what makes up government. So why do we refer to labor and government as 2 different entities when we talk about accountability and the fight against corruption? 2. All the information necessary and required to fight corruption are on the desk of members of NLC and TUC. So why cant they just expose the corruption themselves. Why are they asking "government" to do it? Especially now that we have the FOI bill passed and the official secrets act repealed. 3. The people that destroyed our power, oil and other infrastructures could not have done it without members of NLC/TUC. Are there not ways they can bring their members to book? Do they not have ways to check their members? NLC/TUC run both the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary. They are the real government that we are talking about. In fact, they are the ones that actually formulate and fine tune policies and actions of government. So why do we differentiate them from the government. Just some serious thoughts. For the records, No one can steal anything from Nigeria without the collaboration of someone in NLC/TUC. |

We forget that the single biggest reason why corruption has thrived in Nigeria is because we celebrate it. One of the most popular slogans you find on the streets is "if you reach there, you no go go chop?". I have asked simple questions like why we spray cash in parties in Nigeria and some say it is our tradition. What kind of tradition is that? A tradition that encourages corruption?. Truth be told that we extol corruption and that is why it thrives. If we examine ourselves, this country would have changed a long time ago |

Secondly, most of the protest that has been shown where protests organized by civil society groups. that is in no way a protest of the people. Only Edo and the south west protests was carried out by the people. All the pictures and evidence is there to prove. Even Lagos state protest has been more of a music festival.
