Gistmedia10:
A pretty Nigerian student's room is making waves online for its sheer luxury. The room is like a dream come true, filled with expensive things that leave visitors in awe.

As soon as you step in, you're greeted by a beautiful bed with fancy pillows and covers. A huge smart TV for entertainment, and the room stays just right with a fancy air conditioning system.

But the real showstopper is the home theater setup! It's like having a cinema at home, complete with amazing speakers. And then there are the shoes, bags, clothes, and wigs—all top-notch designer stuff.

Every corner is designed with a feminine touch that shows off her style. Even the kitchen is not just for show—it's stocked with the best stuff for cooking up a storm.

Adding to the allure, her beautiful portrait hangs prominently on the wall, adding a personal touch to the lavish space. Each element exudes a refined, feminine style, including the fully stocked kitchen for culinary pursuits.

People are amazed, but they're also wondering: How does a student afford all this? It's the talk of social media, with everyone guessing about her secret. A notable absence, however, is the reading table and chair, which seem to be missing from the lavish space. shocked

Foreign Affairs / Re: Togo's Lawmakers To Elect The President In Recent Constitutional Reforms by dnawah(m): 7:50am On Apr 16
DrMB:
Togo, a West African nation known for its political complexities, is in the midst of significant constitutional changes. The country aims to transition from a presidential system to a parliamentary one, a decision that would shift the process of electing the president from a public vote to an election by lawmakers. This transition has sparked debate and opposition, with critics arguing that it may allow President Faure Gnassingbé to maintain his grip on power.

The Proposed Reforms

The recent constitutional reforms propose that lawmakers, rather than the public, elect the president of the Republic for a single six-year term. This is a departure from the current presidential system, where the president is directly elected by the populace. The shift to a parliamentary system would align Togo more closely with other countries in the region that have similar structures.

Controversy and Opposition

While the reforms aim to enhance the governance structure in Togo, they have been met with some controversy. Opponents of the changes argue that the new system could consolidate power in the hands of President Gnassingbé and his allies. Critics are concerned that the reforms may not lead to the democratic transition that the country needs, but rather further entrench the current administration's hold on power.

ECOWAS Involvement

In response to the political developments in Togo, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has dispatched a fact-finding mission to the country. The mission aims to assess the situation and engage with key stakeholders to better understand the implications of the proposed changes. ECOWAS's involvement signals a regional interest in ensuring that the constitutional reforms are carried out transparently and with respect for democratic principles.

Looking Ahead

The path forward for Togo remains uncertain as the country navigates these constitutional changes. The international community, including regional organizations like ECOWAS, will be watching closely to ensure that the transition aligns with democratic values and the will of the Togolese people.

It is essential for Togo to approach these reforms with careful consideration, engaging with a diverse array of voices and perspectives. Only through an inclusive and transparent process can the country move toward a system of governance that truly serves its citizens.
advantage:no more huge budget for elections,no more election violences.
disadvantage:the mandate will no more be of the people, the incumbent will always win.

BUDGETBOOSTS:
Nigerian Army Tortures Hotel Manager To Death In Abia, Brutalises Three Other Staff After NAF Cadet Drowned In Swimming Pool

The manager identified as Mr Achimugu James Etubi from Kogi State was the head of the food and beverage department of the hotel located on Factory Road.

Some personnel of the Nigerian Army have allegedly brutally killed one of the section managers of Hotel Royal Damgrete, Umuahia, Abia State where a Nigerian Air Force cadet reportedly drowned in the swimming pool.

The manager identified as Mr Achimugu James Etubi from Kogi State was the head of the food and beverage department of the hotel located on Factory Road.

He was reportedly tortured to death by the soldiers on Friday morning at the military barracks.

SaharaReporters reported on Friday that the Abia State Police Command confirmed the death of the NAF cadet officer.

The NAF Tarmac Four cadet, simply identified as CDT Chidiebere, had reportedly died on Tuesday in the swimming pool.

Following the incident, the Nigerian Army led by one Major Inuwa who was reportedly investigating the unfortunate incident ordered soldiers including one of the Cadet officers who came with late Chidiebere to the hotel swimming pool to beat four hotel staff that were invited for interrogation to stupor.

In the process, Etubi died, a reliable source who witnessed the incident told SaharaReporters.

According to the source, who didn't want his name mentioned, the situation that led to his demise started a few days ago when a cadet officer from the Nigerian Air Force Tarmac Four came into the Hotel Royal Damgrete Umuahia to swim and have fun with his friends and drowned while swimming.

"The Nigerian Air Force Tarmac Four cadet was identified as Cadet Chidiebere. The death of the cadet officer drew the attention of the state police and it made them begin investigation.

"In the process of investigating the death of the cadet officer, four persons were taken by the Nigeria Police Force for investigations, Mr. James Etubi inclusive. They were detained for a night and were released on bail. But a few days later, the military officers led by one Maj. Inuwa particularly, was said to have invited four persons including Mr James Etubi for further investigations, and threatened the owner of the hotel Mr. Steve Ihendigbo, to release the workers to the army or have his hotel damaged.

"The owner of the hotel now went against the police's instructions to release them to the military just to save his hotel from attack," the source revealed.

The source also noted that "When Mr. Steve was contacted after the killing of the manager he was scared to give full details for fear of the Nigerian military.

"The family, wife, and kids of the deceased are calling on Nigerians and relevant agencies to join voice and forces for justice in this inhuman treatment that led to the loss of life of Mr. Etubi."

Meanwhile, when SaharaReporters contacted the hotel owner, Mr Steve for clarification he decried the killing of his staff, adding that soldiers had continued threatening to kill everybody in the hotel.

According to him, after the death of the said cadet officer, his staff called to inform him what was going on. "The Cadet officer came with two others. Two were cadet officers and a navy trainer. They came and parked their vehicle. We don't know what happened because the deceased Cadet officer didn't swim in the swimming pool. The next thing the other cadet officer started shouting that their college had drowned. We invited the police and fire service to pump out the water in the swimming pool but they didn't do anything.

"To our greatest surprise, for about four hours he was reportedly inside the water, his stomach did not swell, and water didn't come out from his mouth or nose.

"So, the policemen took the body took the body to the morgue and took four of my staff to their station. They didn't come back till the following morning being Wednesday when they released. The police instead of interrogating the two military personnel that came with the deceased officer, were shading them.

"So, when my staff returned some soldiers led by a lady military police came demanding that they (four staff) should come to their office. In the morning Friday, the four staff went there before even 8 am. According to my staff, when they got to the barracks, the lady military police officer ordered soldiers to torture them. One of the cadet officers that was with the late Chidiebere whom we suspect knows what killed his colleague carried a stick with other soldiers and beat brutally. James could not withstand it he collapsed. Seeing what they had done the lady military police officer got a tricycle and told him to take his body back to the hotel.

"Other staff who had already been badly assaulted were telling them that the man was dying. They chased them out with the tricycle operator they had already paid. Instead of coming to the hotel, they begged the tricycle operator to take him to the hospital. When they got to the federal medical center Umuahia, he was pronounced dead," he narrated.
Steve, however, noted that when he got the information, he called Major Inuwa, who told him that he never directed the soldiers to kill his staff.

He regretted that though he had reported the gruesome murder of his staff to the police, all the soldiers that murdered his worker were still going around threatening to kill every staff of the hotel.

Steve, who said he resided in Lagos, vowed to get to the root of the whole incident and ensure justice for his staff that was brutally murdered by Nigerian soldiers for no reason.

I am one person that do not joke with safety, what ever I do and where ever I am, I ensure that safety procedures are followed. Not just by me, but by those around me.
I can count how many times I have alighted from public transport because the drive was driving recklessly. I can also count how many times I made other passengers to force our drive to drive carefully.
All thanks to the training I got from my work, I dont joke with SAFETY.

Some days back, I was at a fuel station to get fuel. My vehicle is next in line to the fule pump when a man drove up in his bike, bypassing every other bike on the cue and headed straight to the pump that I was on line for. Since the pump was fueling the car in front, the bike man just packed and was waiting for them to finish.

Few seconds later, he just brought out his phone and was making call. I immediately alighted from my car and urged him to leave the pump area and continue his call.
Na so he just started shouting. "That do i know who he is, that I have no right to tell him to stop making call or to leave the pump area".

Like play like play, he just removed his combatant belt that hes going to deal with me. That he doesnt take nonsense from people who have no respect. I noticed he was wearing an underwear camo, either for navy or civil defense.

As he came down from his bike and was trying to approach me, other customers who were there now charged at him in my defence. After much altercation, he left with the threat that he's coming back with his men for us.

Even though I escaped "molestation" by the officer, it always good for everyone of us to be safety conscious. Accidents can easily happen and last last, them go tell you or your family sorry and life goes on. WHO LOSE.

Lets always insist on adhering to safety principles at all times even when it mean that you will have to inconvenience yourself and others.

If you are boarding a boat/canoe insist on life jacket... it will save you from a lot of stories that touch.

When they say you dont have faith... Agree that you are faithless.

Politics / Re: Gov Otti Charges Un Habitat To Quicken Work On Design Of Aba Master Plan by dnawah(m): 5:25am On Apr 12
Seunpapa65:
GOV OTTI CHARGES UN HABITAT TO QUICKEN WORK ON DESIGN OF ABA MASTER PLAN

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has charged the UN Habitat to fastrack the delivery of Aba Master Plan as well as extend their work to the State capital, Umuahia, in order to accelerate the pace of work in the redevelopment of the cities.

Governor Otti gave the charge when he received the UN Habitat, West Africa Portfolio Manager, Matthias Spaliviero, who visited Tuesday to brief him on the extent of work done by the agency in redesigning the Master Plan for Aba.

The Governor, who said his administration was committed to transforming Umuahia to give it a status befitting of a capital city, announced that government had awarded contract for the construction of an ultra modern bus terminal in Umuahia to enhance the esthetics of the city and ensure a level of sanity in the transport sector. He added that a similar project would be replicated in Aba.

"We are advancing in our quest to develop Aba and address the environmental challenges in the city. While you are working in Aba, extend your work to Umuahia to add value to what we are doing because it is the capital city. We want to transform that city.

"We have given approval for the establishment of a terminal, where all types of transportation empties into. We also have deployed that to two locations in Aba.

"You can see that we're already moving. So, the earlier you now fit what we're doing into the Master Plan, the better. Otherwise you would just find out that in the next two, three, four months, you may need to go back to what you think you had finished as your Master Plan will not be consistent with the development on the ground, and we don't want that to happen," Governor Otti admonished the UN agency.

He called on the organisation to look at the drainage systems in both Aba and Umuahia and come up with designs on how to best address the issue of flooding in the cities.

Earlier, the UN Habitat West Africa Portfolio Manager, Dr. Matthias Spaliviero, who said he was in the state for a support mission, explained that the UN habitat intends to show full commitment to the state through technical assistance.

Spaliviero said there was need for sustainable urban renewal through engagement with the people, especially in Aba, regretting that Aba people had poor sanitary culture and do not take care of the infrastructure provided by the government.

"Our mandate is to promote transformative change in urban cities and settlements. We want to show our full commitment to Abia state. We do have a contractual agreement with Abia State. This is our strategic plan, so the overall objective is sustainable urbanisation as a driver of development and peace to improve living conditions for all," Dr. Spaliviero stated.

The General Manager, Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA), Arc Uche Ukeje, expressed regret that the UN Habitat was not moving as fast as expected by the state in the execution of the project, which the state had paid for in full.

He, consequently, called for the pace of work to be accelerated as the government was not willing to freeze development with regard infrastructure delivery while waiting for the agency to complete the Master Plan that had been in the works for about three years.

Foreign Affairs / Re: At 37, Simon Harris Becomes The Youngest Prime Minister In Ireland by dnawah(m): 5:56pm On Apr 10
lagostrendboy:
At 37, Simon Harris becomes the youngest prime minister in Ireland

On Tuesday, April 9, Simon Harris took office as Ireland’s youngest prime minister ever, promising to bring “new energy” to the position.

Leo Varadkar, who abruptly resigned last month for personal and political reasons, is replaced by Harris, 37.

In a ceremony with President Michael D. Higgins, Harris was formally installed after the Irish parliament voted 88 to 69 in favor of him on Tuesday. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Following Varadkar’s resignation, the center-right Fine Gael party held an uncontested election and chose Harris as its leader. However, the youthful politician will soon face important elections and internal pressure to address housing difficulties and anti-immigration sentiment.

Harris told parliament:

“This is very much a partnership government and I intend to lead us in the spirit of unity, collaboration and mutual respect,” he said, watched by his wife and two children.

“I want to bring new ideas and new energy and, I hope, a new empathy to public life. Time is certainly short, and there’s a lot to do,” Harris added.

Varadkar quit last month saying that at the age of 45 he no longer felt he was the “best person” to lead the country. Varadkar, the youngest prime minister when first elected in 2017, said Tuesday said he “always knew” Harris would fill the top job.

“This has perhaps come a little bit sooner than he might have planned or expected. But I know he will rise to the occasion,” Varadkar said.

“He has the empathy, energy, experience, campaigning skills and political antenna to take us forward.”

Harris joined the youth branch of Fine Gael at the age of 16 and quickly rose through its ranks.

A county councillor at the age of 22, he was elected to parliament in 2011 as a 24-year-old.

At the time he was the youngest MP and was nicknamed “Baby of the Dail” (Irish parliament).

He was appointed health minister in 2016 aged just 29 and higher education minister in 2020.

Also, Harris’ prominence on social media, especially TikTok, has made him one of the most visible politicians in Ireland.
