tomakint:
This is a case of grand conspiracy unfolding and an open display of flagrant abuse of power. Justice Abang had all the time in the world to declare Sept. 7 a fixed date for hearing of this case why wait till the Eleventh hour to declare this mockery of the judiciary he called "his judgment", truly Nigeria is a one gargantuan zoological garden mainly populated by hybrid Mona monkeys. This Abang is up to something that must be figured out.

The Convention is taking place in Port Harcourt where another High Court is situated, definitely the declaration of the PH High Court declaration should be obeyed. Abang is looking for trouble.
Take it or leave it, Wike and Fayose should be held responsible for this present pdp crisis. They went ahead to invite a trouble maker. Give it to FFK that stood firmly against Sherrif from day one. If Abang is for APC , then the Judge in Port Harcour is for PDP. Morever this case was 1st file at the Federal High Court Abuja, so the FHC PH should have request the case to be transfer to them before giving judgement.

NAF Releases Video Claiming They Did Not Kill Any Chibok Girls

The attention of the Nigerian Air Force has been drawn to the latest video released online by the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) group alleging the killing of some of the abducted Chibok school girls by Nigerian Air Force fighter jets. It is pertinent to state that the video is not only a ruse but another mischievous effort by the dying sect to draw public attention to itself. Whereas the video showed a cross section of the abducted girls and an airborne aircraft, it provided no evidence that the supposed casualties were as a result of any air to ground attack. More so, there is sufficient evidence to believe that the casualties were arranged as the positioning of the bodies clearly defiles any natural setting of a location that has undergone aerial bombardment. Besides, the impact and accompanying degree of damage to the bodies would have been more, were they to have died from air strike. It is therefore clear that the video is a make-up story to discredit the NAF, and more importantly, a deliberate effort to weep up sentiment among the public in order to dissuade and discontinue the use of airpower which has proved very effective as the major determinant factor in the successes recorded in the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North East. The NAF has put-in place a number of measures to avoid the incidence of collateral damage. To this end, considerable effort is committed to undertaking Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, both day and night, to ensure that only legitimate military targets are engaged. Besides, NAF ISR platforms carry highly sophisticated equipment on-board which are able to provide pin-point accurate intelligence about target location and description as depicted in the enclosed video on our ISR operations. And where there are doubts about target status, we do not undertake strike missions. In any case, the NAF, being a professional fighting force, has not and will not engage in unprofessional practices in discharging its statutory duties.

The NAF will like to assure Nigerians, living within the vicinity of its operations, of their safety. While urging them also to disregard the BHT video as a mere propaganda, the NAF wishes to use this opportunity to restate its commitment to restoration of peace in the North East and other troubled areas in the country.

Crime / Two Nigerians Arrested In India For Morphing Threat by dridowu: 4:12pm On Aug 14, 2016

Ahmedabad: The cyber cell sleuths of the city crime branch nabbed two Nigerians - Salestine Baneme, 32, and Lona Thomas, 32, - both residents of Malavianagar of New Delhi, for blackmailing two women registered on a matrimonial website to pay them a huge sum of money. The accused had threatened them that they would morph their pictures and make them viral on the social media.
The crime branch sources said it was a tough job for them to locate the two Nigerian nationals in a densely populated area of Malalvianagar. "We posed as salesmen from a telecom company and moved in Malvianagar on the pretext of improving the signal strength of the service provider," said a crime branch official.
A working woman, registered on a matrimonial site, got a friend request from Salestine Baneme, who had created a fake profile by the name of Raju Williams on the same site.
The woman, Kavita, accepted his friend request and then the two started chatting on various social media platforms.
Joint commissioner of police, crime branch, J K Bhatt said that the accused sent a marriage proposal to Kavita which she readily accepted. "The accused told her that he was working as an engineer in Manchester in the UK and was to go on a three-week trip to Canada. He was to come to India from Canada," said Bhatt.
Meanwhile, the accused asked Kavita to send her personal pictures to him. "Kavita refused first, but as the accused convinced her that he was her future husband, she agreed and sent him her two pictures," added Bhatt.
Next day Baneme told Kavita that he had sent a parcel containing 35 thousand pounds and that she should receive it.
Inspector J S Geddam said that three days later a woman, identifying herself as a Delhi custom department official, called up Kavita and told her that she would have to pay Rs 47, 800 as duty in a private bank account for the parcel which had come for her.
"However, as Kavita declined to pay the duty, a day later Baneme called up her and threatened her that he would morph her pictures and make them viral on the social media. Kavita then immediately approached us," said Geddam.
During the probe the crime branch officials traced the IP address of the accused to Malavianagar in Delhi. "A team led by inspector Taral Bhatt was immediately dispatched to New Delhi and with the help of local police, they nabbed the two Nigerian nationals," said a senior crime branch official.
During their interrogation, the accused confessed to having blackmailed another woman named Usha in similar manner. "We approached Usha and recorded her statement against the accused," added the official.

Travel / Nigerian Paid Man £1000 To Pose As Her Baby's Father In Bid To Avoid Deportation by dridowu: 1:44pm On Aug 10, 2016
A Nigerian mother who paid a man £1,000 to pose as her newborn baby’s father in a bid to dodge deportation was caught out by online pictures of the real dad cradling his son at a naming ceremony, a court heard.

Faust Abolore, 29, allegedly hired Anthony Ezekpo, 44, in a plot to gain British citizenship, using his name on the baby’s birth certificate and a subsequent passport application.

She claimed they lived together at a bogus address in Chandlers Drive in Erith in an attempt to fool Greenwich council officials.

Accused: Faust Abolore was allegedly caught out by online pictures of the real father cradling his son Tony Palmer/Square Mile News
But Inner London crown court heard the baby’s real father, Nigerian national Peter Gentry, was photographed at the naming ceremony, on September 15, 2014, in the role of the doting dad.

On trial: Anthony Ezekpo, left, allegedly gave false information in using his name on the baby’s birth certificate. Right, Samson Awoyinka is accused of making a false statement in counter-signing a passport application (Tony Palmer/Square Mile News)
Ezekpo actually lives on the outskirts of Newcastle, and Abolore wired £1,000 to his bank account the day the birth certificate was signed, jurors heard.

“He was enlisted as part of a fraudulent scheme to get British citizenship for her to remain in the UK,” said prosecutor Adam Gardner.

“A man turned up with her at council offices in Greenwich to register the birth and get a birth certificate. The man putting himself forward as the father was not Mr Gentry but Mr Ezekpo, and they both said they lived together.”

Abolore gave birth to her son at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich on August 6, 2014, and a photo on her phone shows Mr Gentry cradling the newborn child.

They were living together in Columbus Square, Erith, having entered the UK illegally, the court heard, and Abolore was facing deportation.

Once she had the birth certificate with Ezekpo’s name on it, she submitted a passport application signed by Ezekpo and counter-signed by Samson Awoyinka, 29, it is alleged.

“Mr Awoyinka said he knew Mr Ezekpo for five years from his church congregation,” said Mr Gardner.

“This was not true, he barely knew the man. He then admitted he signed the passport application and went to Greenwich.”

Today, the chicken has come twerking all the way back home to roost and you are crying foul.

There was even more evidence to prove Jo sponsored BH than Buhari- ask Azazi's corpse, ask Stephen Davies!

And if you wanna talk about who made the statement that "a fight against BH is a fight against the north" which is all you people rely on, remember Jonathan called BH his "siblings" and he "couldn't send the army to wipe his family".

Furthermore, if you wanna talk about them nominating him to negotiate with the govt then on their behalf, then you would also agree that people like Wole Soyinka, Aniko Briggs, and all others who ever negotiated with the Yar Adua government and those about to negotiate with the Buhari's government on behalf of the Niger Delta terrorists are also terrorist sponsors!

Less than 24 hours after the South West elders and Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned the National Chairmanship position to Lagos State and endorsed a former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, as their consensus candidate, the Makanjuola Ogundipe-led executive of the party Tuesday disowned the outcome of the Akure meeting.
The decision was taken after an emergency zonal meeting held at the party’s office in Bodija, Ibadan, where they said the position adopted by the people who gathered at the Akure meeting of Monday was ‘null and void’, stressing that it ran foul of the PDP’s Constitution on who has the power to convene any zonal meeting.
Ogundipe, flanked by Chief Pegba Otemolu and Prince Adekola Rasaq, the zonal Secretary and Auditor respectively, maintained that the office of the National Chairman was open to all especially, all the six states in the zone.
After the marathon meeting, the zone, in a release jointly signed by Ogundipe and Otemolun said in the position paper “at an extra ordinary meeting of the constitutionally- elected and legally-confirmed South West zonal executive committee (2014-2018), that they acknowledged the hardwork of the national caretaker committee of the party under Senator Ahmed Makarfi for his unwavering stand on party discipline, internal democracy and more importantly eradication of impunity in the polity”.

Politics / Jonathan’s Government Cancerous, PDP Should Forget 2019 – Fr. Mbaka by dridowu: 2:58pm On Aug 06, 2016
Enugu Catholic Priest, the Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka has once again taken former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to the cleaners, describing his days in office as full of mess and cancerous to the economic life of the nation.
His recent declaration entitled: “FR MBAKA’S ASSERTION ‘THERE IS HUNGER IN NIGERIA’, NOT AN ATTACK ON PRESIDENT BUHARI”, came as a reaction to recent media reports where he was quoted to have bashed President Muhammadu Buhari over the level of suffering in the country.

In a statement he issued through his spokesman, Barr Maximus Ike Ugwuoke, the cleric said he observed with keen concern the news trending some sections of the media that he “attacked” President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mbaka maintained that he didn’t attack Buhari but told him the situation of things in the country and as well suggested ways out.

He stated that “the news headline is not only sensational but also a censorious media colouration and hype of the message of the cleric titled ‘Bless and Be Blessed’ for whatever ends.”

While admitting that he lamented the level of hunger and suffering in the country, the fiery priest said it was followed by another ‎message where he explained that Buhari was not responsible for the situation but the previous administration.

He declared that the “Bless and Be Blessed” message that was misunderstood was followed by a message titled “Mega Change of Conditions”.

According to him, the second message, where he absorbed the President of blames over the hunger situation in the country read:

“There is sword that is moving about in the country. People are dying like flies. The sword of Hunger is eating the land. And as I have told you this is just the beginning. If anybody is telling you it is going to be well very soon that person is deceiving you. This is because many of us were among those that were alive during the years of the past government. The past PDP government was a grasshopper and locus to Nigerian. The past Government was a disaster to the land of Nigeria; the past government was cancer to this country. There is no need trying to cover their incalculable and iniquitous mess. If you don’t feel it now, you will feel it later.

“The impact of their horrific mess is yet to be felt. It was a regime where hooliganism became a political slogan; where looting became the order of the day; where the neglect of youths became a pattern of administration. The result is what we are passing through now. Hunger is everywhere; the hunger was created before this new government came in. Buhari is not the maker of the hunger.

“The hunger was created during the Jonathan PDP administration but Buhari should abate the long procrastination, bureaucracy and slow methods in tackling it.

“Understand it very well. People will know the truth and the truth will set us free. Buhari is just an agent of change. The money in our treasury was nothing to write home about before this new regime came. The country was in an embarrassing mess.

“Apart from the petroleum that we sell and get money, what other means of foreign exchange do we have? The foundation of the Nigerian economy is oil which has now collapsed and the foundation once destroyed what will the just man do? Psalm 11:3. The past administration did not prepare this administration for this season. That is why the sword has risen. Many will die by this sword but there will be survivors.

“That is why I have been saying and I keep on saying that the past administration should publicly come to apologize to the Nigerians. They should not be foolhardy. They should not continue to perpetrate this type of iniquitous attitude planning about 2019 election for them to continue from where they stopped. All these years of Jonathan, nothing happened in Niger-Delta specifically to be recorded in the annals of history. What a shame? What an embarrassment. The place where the oil has been coming from remained underdeveloped under a man from the same soil. If you go to Niger Delta today you will cry. But what worries me is that our people are good in shifting blames.

“Somebody entered your kitchen carried your pot of soup, enter your store and farm raked everything in the store and farm and ran away. And another person enters the kitchen where there is no pot at all and you want the person to turn the kitchen into a magical kitchen that will produce a magical pot and a magical soup, which soup?

“I am just telling president Buhari that people are hungry because he cannot not come to the street like me and notice people’s feelings. But Buhari is not the author of the hunger. The past government planted the tree of hunger and they want to come back to water it. If it is in a developed country by now from the Senatorial to the reps to the governors, all who participated in the last administration should have resigned with apologies to our youths, otherwise the youths one day will begin to stone them.

“They will soon confuse you that present governments don’t want to feed you, feed you with what? It will surprise the whole Nigerians to know that even after Buhari was a petroleum minister and a military president of the country, he had no oil bloc. Is it not a shock? Don’t you hear the quantum of money that is being recovered from one person? Buhari just came as a redeemer. I don’t know if the people of this country are hypnotized.

“How can we be fighting somebody who is fighting for us? Apart from this Buhari, how can somebody talk to these political juggernauts and tell them to bring back what they have stolen? it is only a Beniah personality like Buhari that can enter into the cave and catch a lion and kill a lion in a snow season and come out. The president needs support. He doesn’t know where to begin because there are many holes dug for him by the past administration, and they carried the sand away expecting him to cover the holes with what?”.

“He, therefore maintained that ‎contrary to the media report Fr. Mbaka “merely reinstated the obvious sufferings that Nigerian are facing (which even the president himself had at points acknowledged and sued for patience and perseverance) and advised the president on the ways to tackle it i.e by engaging economic gurus and listening to good advisers.

“We wonder which portion of the message could be viewed as “an attack” or” bombing” of Mr President as twisted in the media. The acclaimed message of the cleric to Mr President to us is rather a further demonstration the cleric’s love to see that the president succeeds in his messianic rescue operation mission in Nigeria and that is why it is devoid of hypocrisy.

“It is obvious that those who are arm-twisting the said message of the cleric to Mr President as an attack on Mr President are those who want the president to fail or be blindfolded so as to use the obvious hardship Nigerians are facing as a weak point of his administration to ride onto power mindless of the fact that Mr President has done so well in fighting corruption and insurgency in the country, which are mega achievements that scores him above average in just few months of his administration.
“In the background of the message, Fr Mbaka encouraged the gallant warrior, President Buhari, to continue his battle against corruption and insurgency asserting that if not a man like President Buhari, by now people may have stopped going to church and mosques. Boko Haram might have wrecked this country. People might have equally stopped going to schools, markets etc. Kudos to Buhari .Fr Mbaka revealed that corruption, insurgency and poor governance by past governments gave birth to three horrible children (1) Hunger (2) Anger (3) Danger.

“He asserted that Buhari is not the cause of corruption and insurgency yet he is fighting them frontally and enjoined the president to extend same to hunger even though he is not the cause. He pleaded the President to begin a War against Hunger, as many are dying hopelessly. He stressed that if the hunger, anger and danger continue, Nigerians may not vote for him again, as they would mistake him for the cause of these maladies while in fact he is a solution.

“Fr Mbaka equally advised the President on being careful about how he appoints people to prominent positions, so that no region will appear marginalized- as happened in NNPC board and charged the President to make sure that those around him are not misguiding him. He advised the President on human empowerment and making sure that those who worked for him (Buhari) during the election ought to be empowered –as one good turn deserves another.

“For the purpose of clarity, granted that Fr Mbaka stated the obvious , that there is hunger in the land, he never attributed the cause of the hunger and economic hardship bedeviling the nation to Buhari rather he attributed it to the offshoot of the actions and inactions of the past administrations of this country.

“We recall that earlier this year, Fr Mbaka had during his New Year message predicted that hunger and hardship will come upon the country this year and so we wonder why this message should make a headline at this point of the year.”

Crime / Nigerian Scammers Infect Themselves With Own Malware, New Wire-wire Fraud by dridowu: 2:19pm On Aug 05, 2016
A pair of security researchers recently uncovered a Nigerian scammer ring that they say operates a new kind of attack called “wire-wire” after a few of its members accidentally infected themselves with their own malware. Over the past several months, they’ve watched from a virtual front row seat as members used this technique to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from small and medium-sized businesses worldwide.

“We've gotten unprecedented insight into the very nitty-gritty mechanics of their entire operation,” says James Bettke, a researcher at SecureWorks, a subsidiary of Dell Inc. focused on cybersecurity. Bettke and Joe Stewart, who directs malware research for SecureWorks, are presenting the details of their findings this week at the annual Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas.

This new type of attack is a twist on an old favorite. For years, rings of scammers in West Africa have stolen money from companies through a technique known as "Business Email Compromise," or BEC, in which they use internal corporate email accounts to execute fraudulent financial transactions. Or, in another approach known as “spoofing,” scammers have impersonated a CEO’s email from an external account to persuade an employee to send a wire transfer to their own bank account.

The SecureWorks experts say wire-wire, which is how criminals refer to the new type of attack, represents a more sophisticated approach to BEC that is harder to detect. Bettke and Stewart discovered the ring in February when five of the scammers self-infected their own computers with the same malware they were using to steal from others. Such errors are a surprisingly common way for security researchers to get an inside look at scammers’ operations.

For months, the malware automatically loaded screenshots and keystrokes from compromised computers to an open web database. One of the infected scammers also frequently trained new scammers, which revealed even more details about their techniques. The SecureWorks team initially found the database by using the virus scanning tool VirusTotal to search for suspicious email attachments.

The wire-wire scammers begin by using a simple marketing tool to scrape the email addresses of businesses and employees from corporate websites. Then, they blast these addresses with messages containing keylogger software or other malware in a process called “bombing.” Employees who click on a malicious link or open an infected attachment might be prompted to log in, providing scammers with the password to their email accounts.

Once they’re in, the scammers allow the employee to continue with business as usual and discreetly monitor the account for potential financial transactions. As soon as they see that the employee is sending an invoice to a customer, they reroute it through their own email account and physically alter the account number and routing number before forwarding it on to the customer. The email address they use is often very similar to the original email address, so it’s easy to miss. Unlike spoofing, BEC techniques such as wire-wire rely on earning internal account access rather than externally impersonating a company account.

Since February, the SecureWorks team has witnessed the thieves deploy this method to reroute transactions averaging between US $30,000 and $60,000 from mostly small and medium-sized businesses making international deals. In one case, the attackers rerouted a $400,000 payment from a U.S. chemical company to its Indian supplier.

Bettke and Stewart estimate the group they studied has at least 30 members and is likely earning a total of about $3 million a year from the thefts. The scammers appear to be "family men" in their late 20s to 40s who are well-respected, church-going figures in their communities. “They're increasing the economic potential of the region they're living in by doing this, and I think they feel somewhat of a duty to do this,” Stewart says.

After the fact, it can take awhile before the customer and seller realize they’ve been scammed—often, neither buyer or seller realizes that something is amiss until the shipment or payment is overdue. Given their vantage point, Stewart and Bettke have tried to alert some businesses to the scam before the fraudulent transactions are complete, but they sometimes have a hard time persuading employees that they aren’t scammers themselves.

The SecureWorks team has notified Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and their description of wire-wire scamming has led to at least one active investigation. They say the easiest way for business owners to prevent such attacks is to require two-step verification for employee logins. Stewart and Bettke have also uploaded a program to GitHub that detects digital artifacts that remain on an altered invoice to tip employees off to suspicious activity.

Politics / Jonathan To PDP: Go And Reconcile With Sheriff by dridowu: 7:19am On Aug 05, 2016
Members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were shocked by the outcome of their meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday night. Select representatives of the board, from the six geo-political zones, led by their chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, met with the former president to appeal for his intervention in the PDP leadership crisis.

The meeting, which was held at Jonathan’s Abuja residence at highbrow Mataima district, lasted for about one and half hours. There was no official briefing at the end of the meeting. Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George and former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, who spoke at separate interviews with journalists after the meeting, described the outcome as “warm and encouraging.”

George disclosed that Jonathan “has not only accepted to assist in making peace, but gave his word to be joining us in the process of resolving the crisis, and to also make out time to attend our meetings. “As you know, he is a life time member of BoT, having been a former president. Sometime, when people see the big masquerade, they will be more careful.”

A source at the meeting, however, disclosed that the BoT members got more than what they bargained for. Most of the board members have pledged support to Senator Ahmed Makarfi- led caretaker committee, which they said was a product of the May 21 Port Harcourt National Convention. But the source disclosed that Jonathan directed them to make peace with the Sheriff faction for quick resolution of the crisis.
According to the source, the former president told them that given the evidences available, Sheriff has the upper hand than the Makarfi-led caretaker committee and might continue to rubbish the party if urgent steps were not taken to reconcile with him.

A member of the BoT, who spoke with New Telegraph on the condition of anonymity, said that the members told Jonathan to return to the party and assume his role as the leader. He said that the former president agreed to return with a promise that he would speak with all the feuding members of the party with a view to finding a solution to the crisis.

Jonathan was also said to have told the BoT members to reach every party to the crisis and try and achieve reconciliation. But he said that anybody that did not accept the offer of reconciliation should be regarded as not being interested in the party. He said: “It is not only about Sheriff. It is about all members of the party who are angry or have issues with the party. He tasked us to reach everybody in the party that has one grouse or the other and attempt reconciliation.

He also promised that he would reach everybody himself. But he told us that if after all the attempts, anybody that was not interested should be left out of the party.” It was gathered that Jonathan met with Sheriff a day before the BoT meeting, at his Abuja residence. The meeting lasted for three hours.

The former president, at the opening of the BoT meeting, said he had been meeting with some individual members of the party without attracting media attention. The meeting with Sheriff might have offered him detailed information of his grievances.

The source added that what might have emboldened the factional chairman the more despite three court judgements against him, was seemingly sympathy he has been enjoying from some leaders of the party. It
was learnt that what Jonathan told the BoT members was the same message party leaders got from former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, who was also approached to broker a truce with Sheriff.

Makarfi was present at the meeting, which held at Babangida’s Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. Sheriff has a long relationship with Babangida. The former president reportedly told the PDP delegation that despite the superiority at the courts, political solution still remains the option.

He directed them to go and reconcile with Sheriff. Sheriff is enjoying the support of Senator Buruji Kashamu who appeared at expanded national caucus meeting convened by Makarfi. Jimoh Ibrahim, who has been nursing governorship ambition in Ondo State, recently joined the camp. And while aspirants seeking to fly the PDP flag in the November 30 Ondo governorship election are trying to forge a consensus candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, yesterday, picked governorship form from Sheriff. He is one of those funding the Sheriff faction. With the advice of Jonathan and Babangida, it is most probable that machineries would be put in motion by party stakeholders to interface with Sheriff with a view to resolving the crisis. Before journalists were excused from the meeting, the former president had told the BoT members that he had been receiving regular briefings on the state of affairs of the party since he left office. His words: “Unfortunately we have been challenged, but I don’t think you should be discouraged. Challenges are part of life; even in families, there are challenges.

There are challenges even in the church more than what may be happening at political level. So you should not be discouraged, and I believe, collectively, we can solve it. “This should not be beyond us, but I believe collectively, we can resolve it. Any sincere PDP member should know that PDP is bigger than an individual. And many members have sacrificed their interest for the party,” he observed.

Jonathan regretted the conflicting court orders that have continued to exacerbate the crisis and further called on party members to sheathe their swords for the interest of the party. The former president noted that even Nigerians need strong opposition party and urged members of the party to unite for quick resolution of the crisis. Jibrin explained that the visit was in recognition of Jonathan’s position as former president, to interact with him and inform him of the state of the party. He informed him that PDP is undergoing a lot of difficulties and challenges, disclosing that there are about 15 court cases seeking to stop the PDP’s national convention. “We have realised that we need reconciliation. So many committees have been set up for reconciliation.

The BoT decided to form a special committee to pursue reconciliation. Some members of the party are concerned. “That is why we appealed to the former president that he be party to the reconciliation,” he said.

Meanwhile, there are indications that the leadership crisis in the opposition party has split the PDP Governors’ Forum into two camps. Five out of the 12 members of the forum are reportedly shifting position from their earlier backing of Senator Ahmed Makarfi- led National Caretaker Committee.

The governors had unanimously backed the caretaker committee, which was a product of the May 21 Port Harcourt National Convention. Majority of them also were present at the handover ceremony by former Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus last June on behalf of the former National Working Committee (NWC). But after the court judgement two weeks ago, Governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Darius Ishaku (Taraba) are allegedly having a rethink about their continued support to the caretaker committee. Mimiko, who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum reportedly held a meeting with Sheriff. The meeting lasted three hours, details of which are still sketchy at press time. Dankwambo, who is co-chairman of the zoning committee set up by the committee and Ishaku are two governors from the north, and they come from Sheriff’s North West zone. Governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose of Rivers and Ekiti states respectively have maintained their hard stand against the factional chairman. Inuwa Bwala, Special Adviser to Sheriff on Media, confirmed that Sheriff met with Jonathan and some governors, but said he did not know what transpired.

“I know that Sheriff met with Mimiko and some of the governors. I know also that that he met with the former president, but I don’t know what they discussed. I was not at the meeting. That is what I can tell you,” he told New Telegraph

Politics / Jimoh Ibrahim Picks Ondo Governorship Form From Sheriff by dridowu: 4:50pm On Aug 04, 2016
Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim on Thursday obtained the Peoples Democratic Party nomination form to vie for the governorship seat of Ondo State.

He was the first aspirant to pick the form from the factional National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff.

While speaking at the occasion, Ibrahim promised to defray the salary of workers in the state within 100 days.He stated that the Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has no locus in law to lay claim to the chairmanship of the party.

He said that Sheriff is known in law having taken over from Alhaji Adamu Muazu who resigned as national chairman before the expiration of his tenure.

Jimoh stated that he would better the lots of the citizens of the state by ensuring prompt payment of their salary.

He described governors who owe workers salary as people without initiative, adding that Ondo State has over 10 solid minerals which he would tap to develop the state.

He claimed he has over 8000 workers in his employment, and assured Sheriff that when he visits Ondo State after he (Ibrahim) would have won the governorship election, the state would have assumed a better look.

He said, “I will restructure the state in the area of capacity building, good innovation and by putting the right thing in the right place at the right time.

“I will pay the workers within the first day of my 100 days in office.
“Non-payment of salaries by state government is the failure of innovation of states by governors.

“It is when you are innovative that you will be able to pay salaries. Those (governors) who are owing are not efficient. I’m not owing any of my workers.”

In his reaction, Sheriff said he had known the aspirant long ago and assured him of his support.

He also described him as a capable hand that could turn the state around if giving the opportunity.

Crime / Franca Asemota Extradited To UK For Girls Trafficking by dridowu: 7:17am On Aug 04, 2016
Franca Asemota, 38, smuggled girls and young women via Heathrow
She promised them a better life but then threatened them into sex trade
Footage showed her smirking as she was extradited from Nigeria to the UK
She is facing jail after being found guilty of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic people into sexual exploitation

A female people smuggler who forced dozens of teenage orphans into prostitution and slavery using the threat of witchcraft is facing jail.

Franca Asemota, known to her victims as 'Auntie Franca', used Heathrow as a hub to traffic at least 40 girls and young women into Europe from remote Nigerian villages.

The 38-year-old promised them jobs, education and a better life, then used 'witchcraft', threats and violence to force them in to the European sex trade.

Her gang even managed to snatch back two girls who had been rescued and put in in foster care in Worthing, West Sussex.

Today, Asemota, originally from Benin City, Nigeria, was found guilty of eight counts of conspiracy to traffic people into sexual exploitation by a jury at Isleworth Crown Court.

The trafficking first came to light when Border Agency officials stopped two groups, in September and November 2011, travelling on false passports.
Although she was not arrested at the time, Asemota's ticket had been booked at the same time, at the same travel agent in Lagos, and she was sat next to the group on the plane.

Investigators then linked Asemota to at least six other 'successful trafficking trips' and the kidnapping of two girls who had been placed in foster care on the south coast.
Paul Cabin, prosecuting, previously told the court how three victims were first stopped at Heathrow in September, 2011, and a further two were also to give detailed accounts of the smuggling.

They all traveled on fake passports that claimed they were over the age of 18.

Mr Cabin said: 'They all came from remote Nigerian villages and had all been told that they were going to be educated, trained and employed in France.

'They all had difficult histories - for example, some were orphans. One was a runaway from an attempted forced marriage.

'They and their families and guardians are told that educational and work opportunities exist in Europe for them.

'Initially, therefore, the girls go with the gang voluntarily.

'Their compliance from that point on is secured by a mixture of threats, to themselves and their families back in their villages, the use of 'Ju-Ju' rituals and sexual violence, including in one case rape.'

He added: 'All but one reported at the time that they had been trafficked by a female who accompanied them on the aircraft from Lagos, known variously as Auntie Franca or Violet.'

It was only when they had traveled 'a long way from their villages were they told they were really destined for a life of prostitution,' he said.

The 'successful' trips all took place within a few months of each other at the end of 2011, and involved 40 victims.

Asemota was identified as a main suspect in 2012 but fled back to her home nation when some of her co-conspirators were arrested, believing British justice would not catch up with her.

Investigators spent around three years trying to locate Asemota until the National Crime Agency successfully tracked her down to Nigeria on March 25, 2015.

She was arrested by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission in Benin City in March 2015 and extradited to Britain.

A video shows her chuckling in custody and smirking as she is led into a van destined to bring her back to the UK to stand trial.
Asemota was located after two girls, who had been placed with foster parents in 2012 in Worthing by the immigration authorities, were kidnapped.

Mr Cabin said: 'They settled in well and both went to a nearby secondary school.

'They had both been detained at HMP Bronzefield after their arrests and may have met each other there, but obviously from this point on they were in close contact and became friends.

'On April 6, 2012, both girls were reported missing by their foster carers..'

Both panned to go shopping but switched off their phones and failed to return home.

Five days later one was returned to the UK from Spain after travelling on a fake passport and taken into care.

In interview the girl explained that on the day of their disappearance her friend had been taking a lot of phone calls before they were picked up by two men in a car.

One of these men was Odosa Usiobaifo, who is currently serving a 14-year prison sentence after being jailed in 2013.

They were ordered to memorise their new names and birthdays, and told: 'Your new life is at stake if you don't get it right.'

The other girl who was taken to Spain feared she would never escape until she contacted, Amicale du Nid, a French charity working with prostitutes, in July 2014.

Jose Olivares-Chandler, defending, denied Asemota knew of any wrongdoing and said she acted as a 'mere chaperone' on the flights.

But it took less than 12 hours of deliberation for the jury to find her guilty of the eight conspiracy counts.

They also found her guilty of two counts of trafficking a person out of the UK for sexual exploitation and two counts of assisting unlawful immigration to an EU member state.

Asemota, of no fixed abode, will be sentenced later this month.

One count of conspiring to trafficking and one of conspiracy to assist unlawful trafficking were dropped during the trial.

David Fairclough, of the Immigration Enforcement crime team, said: 'Asemota was the lynch-pin of a trafficking ring which targeted vulnerable young women in Nigeria, promising them a brighter future working in Europe.

'But it soon became clear that this was far from the truth. The victims, some as young as 13, were told they would be sold into prostitution.

'Asemota traveled with the girls in order to threaten them and keep them in line.'

Five of her victim's bravely gave evidence during her trial, including one who was rescued from prostitution in Montpelier, France.

Martin French, head of the NCA's UK Human Trafficking Centre, said: 'Franca Asemota and her criminal network took advantage of these vulnerable young women in some of the worst ways possible.

'They promised them a better life, but in reality treated them as nothing more than a commodity to be sold into slavery.

'Asemota thought she could evade arrest by fleeing Europe and hiding in Nigeria. But the NCA's partnerships give us global reach and mean international borders are no barrier to justice.'

Asemota flew with the girls on frights from Lagos, Nigeria, to Heathrow between August 2011 and May 2012 with the intention of reaching France.

The Home Office said the girls were not detected in the UK airport because they remained air-side during transit.

But they were caught by French authorities who spotted their false travel documents.
