Send a formal email that you are sick and will not be able to come in that day. If they insist. show up and collapse on the job. Then sue them. grin

Good evening guys,

Quick one please, is an employer required to demand sick note for just one day leave considering the person has been overstressed and doesn't want to put her clients at risk. I mean not being in optimal condition to carry out duty effective?

Because going through gov.uk and other websites, one doesn't require to show it unless you are off work for 5 working days/1 week.

The employer is just trying to prove difficult because the person is question said she can't make it for work the following next due to work and exam stress.

How can one get sick leave (self certified) or what else can be done?
Just tell your manager you are sick and won't be able to come in. Follow your orgainsations' protocol

Lmao! You’re cute! No I’ve not been here and I have just one moniker. Yes you made various valid points especially about previous (and most times non-existent) work experience.

However, the people that recently moved to the UK ran away from naija. We are talking about big boy with years in the industry and they can easily transition to great jobs. I’ve met project managers, bank managers, architects, and engineers, etc who are struggling to get sponsorship jobs (they get calls o, but the recruiter drops them when they realise they are on a graduate visa).

Again.. because you 3 people around you got sponsorship, doesn’t mean it’s easy to get (it’s like me saying I know rich friends, so there’s no cost of living). If they studied with 100 other Nigerians- that’s not up 10% who got sponsored by a corporate.

Anyway everyone will be fine last last. It’s just 5 years sacrifice.
I can relate with this. Just over 2 years ago, before I got my ILR, I didn't require sponsorship as I was a dependent of a British citizen but yet will not get a call back after I have revealed my visa status. Sometimes I could even sense the change in tone once they heard my voice. Obvoiusly these were just my observations so may be wrong but there was a marked difference when I eventually got my ILR.

Who knows if the man is asking about being arrested because he's worried about what his immigration status would be once the divorce process begins?
Exactly. Unfortunately we are often quick to jump to conclusion.

I'm sure this only applies if the children are British citizens, or at the very least fall under the 7 year exception. Otherwise HO/courts would take the view that the children could easily return to their home country if the father wished to continue to enjoy family life with them.

He’s not coming out with the truth.
He asked if he’ll be arrested, I guess domestic violence is involved
He should start looking for sponsorship. If they have kids, he can remain on that basis (Right to family life).
I personally don't see any reason to remain in a toxic marriage just because of a visa.
For those who are speculating that the guy is not pulling his weight, could it also be that the guy had a very good job/business back home and was reluctant to come to the UK but only did due to pressure from his spouse? And then probably he is yet to find something similar ro what he left and unwilling to start from the ground? There are countless stories like that that have caused strains in relationships.

This information is false.
As of yesterday the government said more than 1500 British Citizens have been evacuated. The last plane left yesterday. The demand was very low because most have been evacuated. Aside citizens, the government had to accept NHS clinical staff to fill up the space.

We are too quick to believe negative things about the UK and destructively criticise a country that opened its border to us when other Western countries tightened their borders and our birth country failed us.

Canada, USA and Australia have their fare share of challenges but its always seem to be greener on the other side
Today is the 1st of May, the person you quoted made the statement on the 28th of April and was referring to stats as at the 26th of April. Her numbers do not seem false.

Your 'dare statement' is factually incorrect.

The Naira ranks 137 on the global Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) list, which is way below distabilised Libya's Dinah at 61. The Pound however sits at number 25.
https://www.theglobaleconomy.com/rankings/gdp_per_capita_ppp/#:~:text=GDP%20per%20capita%2C%20Purchasing%20Power,available%20from%201990%20to%202021.

Your assertion confirms you've been out of tune with the realities in Nigeria. In a country where a large chunk of the active population are unemployed or underemployed, where people spend 70% of their monthly income on feeding alone, how do you say the currency has higher purchasing potency? Workers borrow money to transport themselves to work having exhausted their income on basic commodities.

I recently moved to UK, and I can you that barely a year back when I left Naija, it was already tough for many. I wasn't a regular earner ((averaging $2k monthly) but it mehn, it wasn't looking bright by the day. It was crazy; weekly expenses was about 100K for a household of 2. Was constantly wondering how low earners survived.

How do you even talk of high PPP in the face of under-reported inflation at over 20%?

I might wrap your sentiment under patriotism but I'd rather we address the facts based on indicative facts and realities than err on the side of blind patriotism.

Thank you for the correction. I stand corrected. What I intended to say is that the naira goes much further than the pound equivalent but that does not even matter, just saying.

Q: Why do you think many Nigerians are migrating? Nigerians migrate for various reasons. I for example, wanted to learn how to do things the proper way so I can contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria.

Q: What do you think is the annual salary of a manager in a Nigerian company? Since you left it open, my former colleagues who are managers now earn about £52k equivalent which is not too far from what I earn as a manager in the UK.

Q: How many active Nigerians in diapora have you seen return home to pick up a job? That's an individual choice, there are many, especially from where I come from, that return home. Heck, I spoke with lots of my friends back ome who have foreclosed the idea of moving abroad even though they have the means.

But as I said, it's all individual preference and what I like may not be what you like. That does not mean you or I are crazy.
Nigeria was good to me, may God give me the opportunity to pay her back.

Well... there's no delicate way to say this, but I am sure you've heard that someone stayed in oversea for a long time, then someday he just packs up and head to his village?

I was trying to tell you what is assumed that usually brought them back; "Agwu".
I said that because you've stayed 10years in the U.K and the only thing on your mind is just to come back to Nigeria?
Goodluck shaa...but let it not be the Agwu that is calling you back home.

I do not know what your people calls it, but in Igbo land, anyone that becomes a native doctor once has an agwu that was disturbing him at a time.
I think I understand you now and I sometimes feel like that's what is "calling me" grin
After a couple of years, I told my partner that we should go back but was convinced that we should at least get ILR first. We are still dragging after citizenship but I think I am getting through.

koonbey:

Naira has higher purchasing power than Pound?
I think you mixed different issues in your response to my comment and also attributing someone else's statement to me. And no, the FG does not pay anyone N18k.
My understanding of purchasing power may not be the same as yours but if N1000 = £1 then I stand by my comment that I will get more with that N1k in Nigeria than I will get with £1 in the UK - Fact.
Please let us face other issues, ayam tired. undecided

As you dey check am, dey balance am. Here done cast
A lot of us make mistake by comparing the exchange rate. We should be more concerned with purchasing power. I dare say the naira has a higher purchasing power than the pound. If the exchange rate is a factor, how come South Korea is better than Nigeria - economically?
By the way, I am not looking for a N600k job else how will I pay my bills? - Generator, water, security, accommodation etc.

Sure sure...all the very best as you do that... i reacted because over the yrs i have read this from you and some others but yrs on nothing have changed.

I have a young family here and its possible that one day i might decide to move back to Nigeria but i will never regret living here for more than 15yrs., doing that will be discouraging to people who wants to take the same step i took yrs ago.

Thank you sir.
I am not trying to discourage anyone. For some, I do encourage them to come and some I discourage. It all depends on your individual circumstance. I get approached by people for advice. Someone recently asked if he should move abroad and I said he could because of his circumstance. He was well established in Nigeria, had little to nothing to lose by moving (Future settled, he can retire on a comfortable staeady income and healthcare for the rest of his life and much more plus he could test the waters and if does not work, he can go back to his job only losing a year or two). Now if I had someone advice me, I would have probably done same.
I will stop talking and start taking action. grin Have a blessed day.

So for the fact that over 10yrs you haven't found a job in Nigeria equivalent to what you have in the UK means...? The UK gives you what Nigeria does not have? Ok so for how long will you keep waiting for that opportunity in Nigeria to show up?
Or it took what I had in Nigeria and now that space has been filled by the abundant talents back home?
As I said, wish me well on my quest to return hiome. I will be much happier as the longer I stay, the more mental stress it puts on me.

You moved here by mistake more than 10yrs ago and you did not move back immediately you realised your mistake? You settled, probably bought a house and start a family? I mean common on now..l
I did not because it has become difficult to slot back in to some where similar to where I left. Are you clear now?

You need to understand that not everyone that moved was jobless or "suffering" back home. I moved because I wanted a different experience with the hope of applying that back home. Over the years, I have come to realise that it is not that different from back home and in fact in some cases, the guys back home are more experienced.
But as I said, I will give you and update when it eventually happens, just wish me well and pray it happens fast. Thank you and have a lovely day.

Thanks elders...
I equally have a pending issue with the man before the preg saga surfaced.

Was paid completely (working hours) from December until February however in March i discovered was short paid with almost £630
I demanded for an explanation and insisted it was incorrect
They requested for my working hours, which I provided every single thing they needed
Later accepted they would resolve it perhaps it was an erorr from the account team and promised to have my complete money credited ASAP.

Just yesterday, they announced it was my tax that was deducted and i asked which type of tax... I told them its my first job besides I thought I should enjoy tax free for my first 12k as a care worker...
I Requested for my pay slip (which they have never given me before) and I have not gotten a clear response though they agreed to prepare all of it but I am scared they might just doctor it like inec

I thought I should add this too
Please elders I also need una advise... is it possible to double check if I was truly taxed? Via pay slip or are there means to verify this claim.

Thanks for all the efforts and input
This is a serious issue. They have set themselves up for problem. Meanwhile you can create an account with hmrc to get your CTR and you will see your earnings and tax paid to date plus your tax code. It is not difficult.
Please new immgrants should stop taking nonsense from employers just because they sponsored them.

Family / Re: I Don't Want My Mother To Come For My Omugwo by dustydee: 11:39pm On Apr 11, 2023
Ijelenwanyioma:

I am pregnant and by special grace of God, I am expected to have my baby in 3 months time. The issue is that I don't want my mother to come for my omugwo. I am her only daughter but she hate me so much. At first I thought it is old age but she's just 60+ and I have seen older women treating their daughter right.

The last omugwo she came I saw hell, I gave birth on Monday and she came on Thursday. I had 3rd degree tear(that type that they will stitch from anus to vagina) I explained to her that I can't stand for long because of the pain. Meanwhile before she came, a woman from my husband place was taking care of me and she won't let me come down from bed except to eat, bath, breastfeed my baby and sleep. But when she saw my mum, she stopped coming. The woman already prepared soup and kept inside freezer on Wednesday before my mum arrived. It was that soup we ate till Sunday. On Sunday morning I asked my mum what we will eat and she told me to wait for people that are coming to visit us so I can send any of them to market and cook. Like how can I send my visitor message? So I waited for my husband and son to come back from church. I just took tea and also served her. My husband went to market and bought the things I needed to make stew. My baby was sleeping and I went inside kitchen to make stew. My mum sat down comfortably in the sitting room watching film and gisting with visitors that came to see me and my baby. I was in serious pain but I have to cook what me and everybody will eat. I served her the food after cooking and she gladly ate it. She's is neither sick or having pain anywhere.

My mother never cook anything in my house for 4 months till she left. The day I mentioned it to her. She started crying that she knows I hate her like my father. Like how? I even expected her to apologise and lie that she wasn't feeling fine that day. Among all her children, I give her more money but she always show me I am not important.

The problem is, even though this is my third child, I can barely take care of child under 1 month. Apart from cooking, my mum always makes me cry by telling me some very harsh word. She will force me to drink very hot water that I can't even pour on my skin. If I refuse to drink she will get angry and start her wahala again. I don't just want her to come to my house again for my mental health. O ti su mi 😭😭

Some quick questions:
1. Are you and adult?
2. Is she coming to your house or are you staying in a house she bought for you?
If not, simply do not let her into your house. Tell your husband not to invite her or let her in, simple.
Sometimes we give too much respect to people who do not respect themselves

I am seeking guidance on how best to approach the issue of my overstay and how to present a compelling case for the granting of a visa.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
If you are married, why do you want to marry her again?
Just be upfront and sincere with them. Also mention your good record (no criminal recird) while you were in the UK.
No one can give you a definitive answer on how the application will be decided.
