I still do not understand why last-year's cutoff mark for 'education and english' was pegged at 62.10 while English was 57.10...Isn't the reverse suppose to be the case?

Did you say too far.??
Ask from the OAU guys grin grin
Well, i don't know the reason for the delay.

Initially resumption was slated for 27/11/2017 but the calendar was re-adjusted just of recent

Besides why did you want to purchase the change of course form..?

Due to fear of underperforming in the just-concluded UTME , I applied to another university as a way of damage control.
But I stand for quality and meritocracy, so I am seriously considering a switch to UI.

Thank you, boss.
I will have to purchase a JAMB change of course form with immediate effect.
But resumption for the new session slated for January, compared to other institutions, this is too far.
Why the delay?

Hey guys,
I am vying for education and english, my utme score is 280
and I have 3Bs and 2Cs in relevant subjects including maths, english, literature, CRK and government.
How strong are my chances?
When will the screening exercise begin?
How transparent is the screening exercise?
Does UI consider catchment area or it's just merit based system alone...
When will the new session begin?

Thank you as you help a brother out with these answers!

Health / Help! My Aunty Is Hiding Her HIV Status by edygistvilla(m): 11:45am On Jun 29, 2016
Since morning, I've been weary and emotionally drenched; weakened and battered by my thoughts.

This morning, As I approached the freezer to get a glass of water; I saw a polythene bag, packed haphazardly and carelessly behind it. It spurred my curiosity, as i got the polybag from the secluded area. Inside the bag contained a clinic card with my aunty's name on it and two small jar of a drug with the labelled 'ELAVIRENZ, LAMIVUDINE AND TENOFOVIR DISOPROXIL FUMARATE TABLETS'

I was puzzled and preplexed beyond limit because I've never heard of a drug with such a long name. So, I got my laptop did a brief research on google. Lo, and behold, the drug was associated with an intensive treatment for HIV patient and It could be used as an anti-retroviral vaccine.

I almost cried, not because I was concerned about her health but she might have shared sharp object like razor blade, kitchen knife and the likes with my mum, who is her immediate elder sister. She even uses my mum's sponge at times.

Fellow Nairalanders, I'm as confused as two dogs stuck. This lady has been living with us as a family for close to eighteen years and she choose to hide her health status from us, thus, putting the whole family in a very big risk. She's selfish because she cares about her reputation and choose not to disclose information as sensitive as this.

In as much as I don't wish to stigmatize her, what should I do? keeping mute is not an option. I don't want a big controversy and scandal brewing niether do I want animosity here and there. How do I secure the general health safety of my family without cursing trouble and wahala?

Please, I need your advice!
Computers / Help, My Laptop Is Developing Issues!!! by edygistvilla(m): 1:43pm On Jun 21, 2016
My Hp 'Mini' Laptop have been the source of my problems and heartache in the last two weeks. When I switch on the laptop, It doesn't show anything i.e blank screen while the auxilary lights and the fan is working fine...

This happens very occasionally but yesterday, the same problem occured and up till now the laptop is on without showing anything.

I'm confused and disturbed greatly

Does anyone know any troubleshooting technique to tackle this fault?

What might be the cause?

If I'm to take it to a repairer to fix it, what would be the estimated cost?

Thanks!
Education / When To ACTUALLY Use "I" Vs. "Me" by edygistvilla(m): 9:05pm On Apr 12, 2016
In honor of the guy who incorrectly corrected me today, let's all improve our English skills a little bit.

It is common knowledge that when you are referring to yourself along with another person, you say something like "Sandra and I" instead of "Sandra and me". This is only sometimes correct! First let's talk about the more technical grammar stuff, and then I'll give you a simple rule to follow.

I is used as a subject in a sentence, and me is used as an object. Let's use a simple set of sentences as an example:

I saw you at the mall. (I am the subject, I did the seeing... so we use "I"wink
You saw me at the mall. (I am the object, I am the thing that was seen... so we use "me"wink

This does not change when you are referring to someone else along with yourself. If you are referring to yourself as a subject, you still use the word "I", and if you are referring to yourself as an object, you still use the word "me". So our examples become:

Sally and I saw you at the mall. (This one is obvious)
You saw Sally and me at the mall. (This one is where people make their mistakes. You are still referring to yourself as an object in the sentence, so you still use the word "me". Regardless of the fact that Sally is involved as well.)

And now here's the simple rule to follow : If you are referring to yourself along with someone else and don't know whether to use "I" or "me", change the sentence so that you are only referring to yourself. Whichever word you would use then is the correct word to use even when adding someone else in with you.

Examples:

Correct: You and I should go out. (I should go out)
Incorrect: You and me should go out. (Me should go out)
Correct: You should talk to Dave and me about that. (You should talk to me about that)
Incorrect: You should talk to Dave and I about that. (You should talk to I about that)

Education / How To Tell If A Number Is Divisible By Another Number by edygistvilla(m): 2:15am On Apr 12, 2016
Obvious:

1 - Always.

2 - If the number is even.

5 - If the number ends in 5 or 0.

10 - If the numbers ends in 0.

Less Obvious:

3 - Add all of the digits in the number. If the result is divisible by 3, then so is the original number. (Note that this rule can be repeated with the result if you still don't know.)

4 - If the last 2 digits of the number are divisible by 4, then so is the entire number. If you don't know then halve the last 2 digits twice. If you still have a whole number then it is divisible by 4.

6 - If the number passes the '2' rule and the '3' rule, then, yes.

8 - If the last 3 digits of the number are divisible by 8, then so is the entire number. If you don't know then halve the last 3 digits three times. If you still have a whole number then it is divisible by 8.

9 - Add all of the digits in the number. If the result is divisible by 9, then so is the original number. (Note that this rule can be repeated with the result if you still don't know.)

Obscure:

7 - Remove the last digit from the number. Take the number formed by the remaining digits and subtract by 2x the removed digit. If the result is divisible by 7, then so is the original number.

Example (889):

88-(9x2) = 88-18 = 70

=> 889 is divisible by 7.

Religion / What If You Pick The Wrong One? by edygistvilla(m): 1:27pm On Apr 10, 2016

Will I spend an eternity in Hell if I pick the wrong religion?

Which religion offers me the best benefits with the least amount of time and effort invested on my part?

Which religions should I avoid?

Are the consequences for having no religion the same as picking the wrong religion?

What is the proof that you've chosen the right one?

Career / How To Give A Quick, Impromptu Speech Or Toast by edygistvilla(m): 1:53am On Apr 10, 2016
Most people would agree that the idea of speaking in front of large groups of people can be terrifying, and so we tend to avoid it whenever possible. There are times, however, when we are faced with the task and there's no running away: we must say a few words. The following is a template for success which you can use when it's your turn to speak, in just about any type of gathering, formal or informal.

1. The Greeting

"Good..."

The greeting is the easy part. You begin by simply wishing your audience a good morning, afternoon, evening, or whatever time of day it is. **Good* evening everybody...*

2. State the Event

"As we all know..."

The second part is also very easy: You simply state the obvious and remind everybody what the purpose of the event or celebration is, and what you're all doing there. **As we all know,* we're here to celebrate the marriage of John and Kate, and to show them our support as they begin their journey of love and life together...* Now you've got the ball rolling, and the words are coming out easily. You look like you know what you're doing up there, and people are listening. So now, it's time to....

3. Establish Common Ground

"We've all..."

It's important to include your audience as part of the message you're delivering. Talk about something both yourself and your audience can relate to regarding the event or celebration. **We've all* had the wonderful opportunity to get to know John and Kate and enjoy watching their love develop...*

4. State Why You're Speaking

"I..."

Include a personal account, or tell a brief story to let people know why you specifically are talking. What gives you the right to be speaking..? **I've* personally been very lucky to have John as a close friend of mine, and it's been quite amazing to watch how he's grown as a person, and couldn't be more pleased for him to have found someone like Kate to go about his life with...*

5. Call for Action

"So let's all..."

Finally, close your speech with a call for action. This lets everybody know that you're finished without you having to awkwardly say "That's it!" or "I'm finished, thank you"...that is how every weak speech is concluded and makes the audience uncomfortable. You should say something like **"So let's all* raise a glass to John and Kate, and wish them well. Cheers!" or, So Let's all give a big round of applause to Mark for the outstanding job he's done while working with the company"*

Obviously, there are many different ways these leading lines can be used, but if you can commit them to memory and be prepared to use them next time you might be asked to speak, you will let go of all fear and anxiety, and people will be SO impressed with your ability to get up and give a confident, fluent speech in front of a group of people, while looking like you didn't even have to prepare! Good luck, and happy public speaking!

Career / Sacked Today For Being 'too Introverted', Unfair? by edygistvilla(m): 3:09pm On Mar 24, 2016
I recently took on a job, about few days ago (less than two weeks), as a office assistant/ Computer operator at an office located at Ojudu Berger. This is partly because I had just finished the just concluded Jamb utme examination and I was less-busy at home and I needed to develop work ethics and gain professional experiences that would be vital in future. There are TONs of stuff you have to learn while being in this position & I was doing great making photocopies, taking passports, and even helping out in typying. When we are less busy, My boss comes for a chat with my co-workers﹑ which they eagerly and actively participate but I don't. Not because I do not like my Boss or I'm avoidant, but I prefer being at peace with my thought and value my personal space. Then I noticed after few days, Her behaviour and mood towards me changed for the worse as she shouts at me and insults me if i make mistakes, Ofcourse, That's not a problem, but the hurtful part is she hurls insult on my personality. She says to me "You stand there like mumu'', 'Dondie'', 'Lookie lookie like deaf and dumb' e.t.c .
But today at work, I made a mistake with taking a passport photograph due to the fact that the pressure was much coupled with the over-crowded enivironment. She instantly got annoyed and said she can't tolerate a dull and mumu person and that I'm too dull. She said I should leave.

I was pissed because I had not been given a chance to learn everything needed to know Yet. I think this was really unfair since I was not even given a chance to improve. She said blame me for being an "observer", but she had to let me go.

I'm not sad this happen but this had triggered my incentiveness and challenged me the more. I'm even courting an idea of developing a start-up.

Aggregate = 231.
I finished the first 3 subjects using 25 minutes. I marked Government and observed that i had 45 correct answers which would amount to 90 while crk would also amount to same. English and literature were already work over as i devoted ample time to work on the comprehension but so surprised that jamb had to turn things this way?
What the hell is wrong with this board?
I certainly need back my well deserved marks.
