20 Great Tips on Wearing and Walking in High Heel Shoes.

1. Start with a lower 2-3 inch heel and work your way up to 4-5 inches after practicing walking around your home. Shoes higher than 5 inches are really not meant for walking far at all. You will notice that adding an inch to your heel height does make things significantly more difficult, and you may find that a 4 inch heel is the highest you can deal with, but it is different for everyone. The larger your feet are, the higher a heel you will be likely to be able to wear. Several of the most well known models wear a size 11, like Tyra Banks and Paris Hilton.
2. It is easiest to walk in high heels with a bit wider of a heel. They can still be stilettos, just with a bit wider heel like the black and red sandal shown below. Wedges are the easiest to walk in because they have a wider base, and can't get a heel caught in a crack or other obstacle. High platforms with spike heels are the hardest to walk in, and the most likely to make you twist an ankle. Rounded toe, or open toed shoe will be more comfortable than pointy toe shoes. A shoe with a slight 1/2 inch platform will have more padding that single soled shoes, and also adds to the comfort factor.
3. You will find it easiest to walk in high heeled shoes with an ankle strap, t-strap, or other straps to keep the shoe from sliding off. High heeled mules are more difficult to keep on your feet, especially if you are new to wearing heels.
4. Make sure the shoes fit well. If they are too loose, you will have problems keeping them on your feet, and if they are too tight, you will wish they would fall off. It is better to be a little loose, because you can easily add spongy little foot cushions available at most supermarkets and drugstores.
5. Leather shoes will be the most comfortable, will last longer, and will gradually mold themselves to the shape of your feet. They are also the easiest to stretch a bit, should you need to.
6. Watch your step! When walking in high heeled shoes you must be aware of your walking surfaces. Sewer grates, train tracks, stairs, grassy or sandy areas, thick rugs, slippery or rainy surfaces, must all be watched out for. On sandy surfaces you will want to walk mostly on the balls of your feet, like on tip toes to keep your heels from sinking in. When wearing heels and dealing with stairs, always use the handrail, and make sure to have the entire shoe land on each stair, even if you have to turn your feet slightly sideways.
7. While wearing high heel shoes, you should take shorter steps than usual, and as you bring each foot down have the heel touch the floor just slightly ahead of the ball of the foot. Keep your legs close together and walk slightly on your tiptoes.
8. To appear graceful while walking in heels, you will want to keep your feet pointed as straight ahead as possible, and each step should be placed in front of you like you are continually stepping on a single line painted on the floor ahead of you. The famous models catwalk or runway strut takes this a bit further, and each step actually crosses slightly over past the line on the floor to the opposite side. This helps create the sexy hip sway that catwalk models are known for. This does take some practice.
9. Your weakest link are your ankles. You will need to develop strength and confidence that comes from practice in walking in heels and other leg strength development exercises that you will find offered at most gyms. There is even a course called Stiletto Strength specifically for this and the development of poise and confidence while wearing high heels that is available at Crunch gyms.
10. Swing your arms as you walk in high heels which will help with the balance, and add to a graceful appearance.
11. If you are out wearing your heels for an extended period, take them off from time to time, or at least make sure to flex and bend your ankles once in a while to keep them from getting sore.
12. Driving a car in heels is not a good idea, especially in very high heels or platforms. This is even more dangerous with a standard transmission. You can always bring a pair of sensible shoes for driving, and change into your favorite high heels after you arrive at your destination.
13. Never put weight on a high heel that is tilted backwards or you may break the heel.
14. You may find that it helps to walk in heels if you think of yourself walking on tip toes.
15. When turning while walking in high heels, you will find that it is easy to pivot your foot on the point of your heel. This will become second nature to you after a while.
16. If you cannot stand up straight in your heels without bending your knees, then you need to switch to a lower heel. Often just a half inch lower heel can make a big difference.
17. Dancing in high heels takes practice. Practice this at home first. You will also make things much easier if you have some sort of straps holding the shoes to your feet.
18. Wear new shoes around the house a few times to break them in before wearing them outside. This will also scuff the sole a bit making it less slippery on polished surfaces.
19. High heel shoes with lots of thin straps especially in the vamp and toe area may dig in after a short while and become quite painful for extended wear.
20. Don't wear high heel shoes every day. Give your feet some recovery time. If you insist on wearing them every day, at least make sure to vary the heel heights, and if they are leather shoes give them a chance to dry out from any perspiration.

1. Eat well
Hair is protein discharge, and adding good quality animal protein to your diet will help encourage growth. Eat WHOLE eggs. They contain biotin, folate, silica and B-5, which are all universally known for helping promote lustrous hair. Consuming enough fat can aid in improving overall shine and texture. When I looked at the most recommended [by the very knowledgeable vitamin expert at my health food store] food grade hair, skin, and nail vitamin blend, it was clear that eating more kale (vitamin C and Silica) berries (more C), onions, leeks, garlic or scallions (sulfur), mushrooms (zinc), almonds, brown rice (vitamin E), liver, sunflower seeds (pantothenic acid - B5), lobster, oysters, beef liver, crab and shitake mushrooms (copper) and a wide variety of antioxidant herbs like ginger, rosemary and turmeric root, could benefit hair growth and make hair even more gorgeous!

2. Get a shower filtration system
This is a big deal because you can absorb up to eight cups of chlorine while you shower, and there is no telling what that does to your hair. Filtering shower water removes a plethora of nasty chemicals, and that is good all around.

3. Be careful what products you use
Certain products can clog the hair shaft, and that will impede new growth. Many products contain alcohol, which will strip your hair. The chemicals in most commercial hair care products are simply awful. Choose natural, green products instead. I am a big fan of the John Masters line- he uses a lot of essential oils and plant based ingredients.

4. Try not to wash so much or don’t wash at all
When I say ‘not washing’ I mean not the typical way… you still need to cleanse your scalp, here is more about that … I was up late one night watching an infomercial for a hair cleanser (Wen brand) that was organic and did not foam, as it had no laurel sulfides, and used no chemicals at all. Many celebrities endorsed it and I found myself glued to the TV for the whole hour-long infomercial. Yes, I ordered the product and have been buying it ever since. It cleans my hair without foaming or stripping, and it extends the life of my color. I like this concept. Most commercial products contain sodium laurel sulfide, which can be very harmful. So read your ingredients. If you can’t pronounce it or wouldn’t eat it, leave it on the shelf. For a list of toxic ingredients go to the Green Beauty Team "toxic ingredients glossary”

5. Be gentle
Comb through wet hair with a wide-tooth comb. Start at the ends and go slowly. Too many people brush and yank at their hair when it is wet and most delicate. Buy a high-quality professional hair dryer and use it at the medium setting, or don’t blow dry your hair at all. When using heating tools like a dryer, flat iron, curing iron or hot rollers, be sure to use natural products for heat protection. Be slow and gentle and you will be happy with your locks.

6. Wear a hat in the sun if you color your hair
This recommendation is straight from the lovely Joanna Gonzalez, my colorist at Butterfly Studio NYC, especially if you have highlights – this will tone down the brassiness.

7. Do some deep conditioning weekly or bi-weekly
For a simple treatment at home, mash an over-ripe avocado with olive oil and egg yolks, and leave in your hair for an hour while you read or catch up on Facebook. I recommend wearing a conditioning cap, rinsing off well and shampooing with a gentle non-chemical shampoo immediately after.

8. Harmonize your hormones
This can be a tough one; I work with my clients on this. Harmonizing hormones takes time and patience because often it took quite a while to get them out of whack – it takes time to balance them. Mostly it is cleaning up the diet and getting plenty of rest, stress management and being very aware of your relationship with synthetic hormones (found in commercial meats, dairy, eggs and birth control pills)

9. Add some sort of stress management practice
Yoga, and meditation and for the love of G-d please get some sleep!

10. Love the hair you have now
I know this sounds challenging, but if you look in the mirror and say to your friends “I hate my hair!” it actually hurts your hair energetically. Love your hair, no matter what state is in. Whenever you start to think about hating it, replace that thought with a love thought and affirm “my hair is lustrous and beautiful,” “my hair is my crowning glory,” or “I am thankful for my healthy, full head of hair.” You could also rent the movie “Hair” or go see Disney’s “Tangled.”

1. First step towards maintaining healthy skin is cleansing. To get rid of dirt particles, you must cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle, natural cleanser and then treat it with an antibacterial ingredient like tea tree oil. Using warm, (not hot), water and a mild cleanser gently wash your face, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Soaps of any sort should not be used on the face as they can be too harsh, drying out the skin and clog pores. You can prepare cleanser at home for details see face care.



Skin does not require daily scrubbing. You will do more harm than good if you do. Scrubbing and exfoliation of skin depends upon the type of skin. Some body parts require daily exfoliation, some twice in a week and some once in a week. Find more details about exfoliation and its type.



2.After cleansing the skin spray a fine toning mist over the face to cool to close the pores. Let this mist dry on the face. For toning dampen a cotton pad and wipe gently all over your face to remove the last traces of cleanser and any dirt or debris remaining on the skin. This step will help to close the pores and to enrich the skin with an active anti-aging and rejuvenation treatment. You can prepare anti-aging toning recipe at home.



3. When the toner has dried apply a very small amount of moisturizer over the entire face and neck. Moisturizing helps to retain and seal in the skin's natural moisture as well as to provide a vehicle to introduce an anti-aging treatment to provide the skin with the resources it needs to stimulate and reinforce rejuvenation. Apply your moisturizer with an effective active anti-aging ingredient to warm, moist skin in a circular upward motion making sure to avoid the immediate eye area.



4. Once a month use a home steam treatment to thoroughly draw out impurities from the face.



5. Stay hydrated and does it with plenty of water and flushes your body free of toxins. Stay hydrated does not mean soda, caffeine or any other type of liquid. Soda (even diet soda) has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need fluid that will hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses a day!



6. Eat healthy. Improper eating habits can cause depression, weight gain, illness and an overall lethargy. Weight gain causes your skin to stretch. You can control your weight in natural way by doing some exercises/asana without any outside support.



7. Get right amount of sleep as lack of sleep will reflect in the state of your skin. Seven hours is generally adequate. Not enough sleep over a period of time will result in problems that are hard to cure such as loose skin under the eyes and dark circles.
