I am privy to the memo now. It has since been addressed that all PGD and M.SC programmes in NOUN be concluded in a minimum of 3 semesters or 18 months based on NUC directives. This was the reason students were disabled from registering for any course ahead of their semester. Politics / 2023: Emir Of Dutse Endorses Amaechi For President by FriendNG: 11:30pm On Apr 12, 2022

The Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammadu Sanusi, has described the Minister of Transportation Mr. Rotimi Amaechi as the best man for the President come 2023.

The endorsement came during the minister’s consultation visit to his palace on Tuesday, a statement from the minister said.

The Emir said his convictions were predicated on the Minister’s performances both as a former governor and as a minister.

The Emir said, “He is an honest man, and whatever you say about him, you cannot change the fact that he is an honest man. He is a confident person. Wherever you see him you know he is the meaning of total confidence. These are qualities of leadership.

“These are things that we need in a leader especially today, people who are confident, who can face realities and challenges. He is resilient. His resilience I will tell you also, if Amaechi wants to achieve something, by whatever means, he will find a way to get it done, because he is a communicator.

“This is why I have endorsed him. I have high regard for him and I have confidence in his executive capacity. He is fully competent, being a speaker twice. He is most qualified.”

He recalled that Amaechi as Governor of Rivers State fought insecurity to a standstill and also improved the lives of his people,” the Emir said.

He added, “In Nigeria, we are always carried away by tribal, political and other issues but here’s a Nigerian that I know, and Amaechi is a true Nigerian who is detribalized. He provided a place for Muslims to worship in Rivers State which I understand are been destroyed after he left, he endured all the humiliations targeted at making the Muslims feel unwanted in Port Harcourt, and I also know that God will reward him.

“These are the problems that are facing our country today. My knowledge and understanding of this gentleman man, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation is that he has what it takes to fight insurgency.

“I am sure he would do this better now if he becomes the President. With all the resources available, he would use it to fight insurgency and other vices that are affecting us, particularly here in the North.”

He further stated that “He (Amaechi) is a bridge builder and he is a man who is always meeting people. About 16 years ago, this council decided to adopt children from Rivers State, particularly from his local government area, Ikwerre.

“We adopted the 16 children, put them in school with my own children, most of them are graduates, some are married now, and when I told him, he was very grateful and I have high regard for him and I have confidence in his capabilities.

“So, he knows what to do, he is not a new hand, and he won’t bother himself buying houses and building houses, and so, he is fully most qualified for the job.

Emir Sanusi also noted that it takes a man with good leadership qualities to respond swiftly to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

Earlier, Transportation Minister Chibuike Amaechi said he was at the Emir’s Palace to solicit the support of the Emir and people of Dutse and Jigawa State in the forthcoming APC Presidential primaries.

Amaechi assured the Emir that if given the support, he would see to the commencement of the Kano-Maradi rail project which also goes through Dutse.

Amaechi also stressed that the issue of insecurity which is currently affecting the country would be a thing of the past.

“We have been friends when I was a Governor and it continued till date. I have a lot of connection with Jigawa, therefore, I will not commence my activity, my search to seek the support of Nigerians to vote for me to be the President without coming to Jigawa to see you and the people of Jigawa State to support me,” he said.

Politics / 2023: Zoning Presidency To South ‘not A Must’ —zulum by FriendNG: 12:39am On Jul 08, 2021
The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has said it is not a must that the 2023 presidency will be zoned to the Southern region of the country.

Although the governor reiterated his support for power shift to the southern region of the country, he cautioned his colleagues that politics is a game of numbers.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, monitored by Ripples Nigeria, on Wednesday, Mr Zulum noted that the Southern governors were not wrong to call for a power shift to their region, saying it would promote unity.

According to reports, governors of the southern region had on Monday declared support for rotational presidency, saying the next president should come from the South.

The chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, read the communiqué agreed to by member states.

“The forum reiterates its commitment to the politics of equity, fairness and unanimously agreed that the Presidency of Nigeria be rotated between southern and northern Nigeria and resolved that the next president of Nigeria should emerge from the south,” he had said.

Meanwhile, in the interview, Mr Zulum said, “I have said it times without number that I, Professor Babagana Zulum, I am of the view that the presidency should go to the south in the year 2023 because the unity of our country is very important.

Secondly, inclusivity is very important. Thirdly, I am in the APC. Six or seven years ago, APC had zoned the presidency to northern Nigeria based on the agreement that in the year 2023, the presidency should go to the south.

“But again, this is politics. We are supposed to meet and discuss this issue among ourselves, among the political class.

“This statement that people are saying that the president must go to the south, I want them to remove the word must,” the governor added.

Politics / Shasa Crisis: Afenifere Condemns Prosecution Of Only Yoruba Suspects by FriendNG: 6:43pm On Mar 05, 2021
The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, on Friday, condemned the prosecution of only Yoruba suspects in respect of the recent clash between the Yoruba and Hausa in Shasa market of Ibadan in Oyo State.

Daily Trust reports that the Oyo State Police Command had on Thursday charged seven to court for arson and murder during the recent clash.

Those charged before an Iyaganku Magistrate Court were Tajudeen Oladunni, 50; Saburi Lawal, 37; Ojo Joshua, 25; Adekunle Olanrewaju, 38; Olagunju James, 24; Rasaq Yahya, 32 and Olaide Olawuyi, 20 with six counts bordering on conspiracy, arson and murder.

But Afenifere fumed on Friday, expressing “total disgust” over the charging of “only seven Yoruba men over what was supposed to be a clash between Hausa and Yoruba in Shasa.”

The spokesman of the group, Mr Yinka Odumakin, in a statement said: “It is a tragic throwback to three years ago when only indigenes were arrested when they clashed in the ancient city.”

The group challenged the police to show more impartiality, asking: “Where are the arsonists who burnt down the Yoruba section of the market? Are Fulanis above the law?”

Afenifere stated that it is; “laughable that all the Yoruba have been charged for the death of a Yoruba man who was beaten with a charm to death by the Fulani when the fight ensued.”

It demanded a halt to what it called “selective justice that can only provoke more injustices.”

“So the question to ask the Nigeria unjust system is if it was a Yoruba vs Yoruba crisis, where then is the case of the Hausa-Fulani who have been accused by the Yoruba of attacking them and which the FG had allegedly agreed to compensate with billions of Naira,” Odumakin added.

Politics / Femi Fani-Kayode: Killing Of Hausa Traders Would No Longer Be Tolerated In South by FriendNG: 2:09am On Mar 04, 2021
Bello, Fani-Kayode presents AFUCDN’s demands to President Buhari Chief of Staff.

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who spoke on behalf of the West and Southern geo-political regions, said the impact of the strike was too heavy to ignore, adding that the killing of any Hausa-Fulani or traders engaged in legal business activities would no longer be tolerated or accepted.

“On behalf of the so many people in the South-West, especially Sunday Igboho (Yoruba activist), our commitment to you today is that people of the Hausa- Fulani extraction cannot and will not be attacked in the south.”

Fani-Kayode, however, appealed to the FG to address the menace of armed Fulani herdsmen in the forests, whom he said were known to perpetrate all forms of evil, including killing, raping and maiming of Nigerians.

Bello, Fani-Kayode presents AFUCDN’s demands to Presidency

Meanwhile, Bello and Fani-Kayode on Wednesday evening led the leaders of the cattle dealers to a meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari.

Gambari told State House correspondemts at the end of the meeting that that their demands will be presented to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Bello also told reporters that union members had made some demands that must be met by government to forestall a recurrence.

He said, “I have the commitment of the union, in order for us not to continue to have this hardship across the country, to lift the ban on food and livestock transportation to the South.

“I have also received major commitment from people from the South not to attack people of Hausa/Fulani and the traders in the South and that the criminals among them, irrespective of tribe and religion, should be handed over to law enforcement agents.

“I have also received the commitment that their lives and property will be protected also.

“So, these are the messages we brought to the the chief of staff to convey to the president.”

Several mistakes were made, and to be honest, anyone including myself would never tolerate being killed or forcefully ejected from my territory without some form of resistance. However, you're right about Amotekun abandoning their duties and true targets to callously start attacking innocent traders; it definitely gave the attack an ethnic colouration and was quite inciting, further fueling the crisis.

What anyone needs to do is take a panoramic view of the whole situation, one would discover that we're just being pawns on the chessboard of wicked, selfish politicians who are deliberately sponsoring & fueling the crisis for their political gain - either through chaos to frustrate the President or for their seccessionist/separatist agenda.

The only way to collectively win therefore is to forgive one another, agree to stop peddling divisive, hateful & derogatory narratives and instead give peace a chance, support a credible 2023 candidate that would consolidate on present gains and lead us towards the Nigeria of our dreams.

No bullet was fired. Most of the destruction was done by hoodlums outside the market.

What I expect the governor to do was to deploy enough security men to the Hausa quarter in Shasha and be on the ground to stop the hoodlums from arson and harassing mostly northern traders.

According to the news papers bullets were fired. When eyewitness report too. I just finish reading one on the front page.

If you say that the Oyo state government didn't manage the violence well, then you have a point but to say he collided with Amotekun to kill northerners in an insignificant market, then that is being mischievous.

He should have acted on time to bring normalcy to the market but he never sided with anyone in his handling of the unfortunate incident.

But are you denying the fact that bullet were fired and not by police officers?

With peace, understanding & mutual respect everybody wins.

But it is not in the interest of the politicians, especially the opposition, for peace to prevail. Therein lies the dilemma.

Hence they stoke tensions, people are rubbed the wrong way, emotions run high and they react - sometimes excessively.

To be honest, everyone is guilty for escalating the crisis because the amount of gloating and insensitivity when innocent northern traders were killed in Ibadan was highly inciting and blood curdling. I personally abstained from commenting on the herdsmen crisis for months because there was clearly a political angle to the issue, but the general reaction of the majority of southerners (particularly SW) to the Shasha incident put one on the defensive. It was an unfortunate incident and it is best we all bury the hatchet, put it behind us & forge ahead; shaming the wicked politicians in an altruistic effort to collectively create a brigher future for us all. Cheers.

Not only that. The southwest governor(s) encouraged the attack in Shasha market.

Rather than ending the crisis, they use Amotekun to shoot at innocent traders. That on itself is a state sponsored terrorism.

Hence Amotekun has portrayed itself (in this case) as an ethnic militia and not a community police.
