Education / Re: Should Religious Studies Be Compulsory In Schools? by gator_666: 2:26pm On Oct 24, 2012
If it is really good school... well... Define a good school first.

Schools should not brainwash kids. Secondly, whatever is in the curriculum at the point where I sign the contract, should not be changed without my written approval.

It is okay by me to teach kids about various aspects of religion, but it will in my opinion never be ok to make it compulsory. An alternative must be given. One could say that we have christianity and islam. But how about buddhists, shintoists, jews etc? For that reason, I prefer my kids to go to school to gain knowledge, not to be indoctrinated. Mind you, I would react probably the same way if they make it compulsory to teach kids there is no god (or something like that).

The very day school my kids attend make religious studies compulsory, they won't see me or my kids again.

Politics / Re: PHCN & Blackout ,When It Rains: Why? by gator_666: 8:22am On Oct 23, 2012
One of the possible reasons is that mumus are damn too lazy to close the transformers, distribution boxes or breaker boxes after the work is done... I can hardly remember seeing a transformer on the street that was properly closed after some maintenance was done. Hi voltage, low voltage, it does not matter to them... they fix what they have to fix and just leave.

I wonder... what is the point of publicly wishing a happy birthday to someone who does not even know you exist (and never will)?!

Why is the death of a traditional ruler more important than any other death in such circumstances?

Don't blame the news, blame the facts. Okay, maybe Nigeria is not 1st, maybe it is 2nd, but does that change the fact that things are bad, extremely bad here? if you are taken for ransom, or one of your loved ones, does it matter if it is Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa gangsters that did it?

Anyway, if anyone offers you a laptop at ridiculously low price, check this thread for serials and alert the cops.

Christians have better things to do in/with their lives than to kill fellow HUMANS over something that probably didn't even happen/exist. That would be uncivilised.

Violent/Disgusting Non-Celebrity Crimes / Re: Man Caught With Dead Baby In Suitcase In Abuja ! by gator_666: 7:11pm On Sep 16, 2012
Do nairalanders remember the case of 2 criminals with 7-years old boy's head in their baggage, caught in Abuja over a month ago? Did we hear about it recently? No. Who ordered a head? We don't know. Who was to perform the ritual? We don't know. What happened to the culprits? We don't know. I am, sadly, very sure that one month from now nobody will hear about this case again.

Seriously speaking, I was born and grew up elsewhere. However, during the military service, most of the time for lunch they would give us beans in one form or the other... Arghhhhhhhh. Beans are internationally abused by cooks wink

Events / Re: Where Were You On September 11th 2001? by gator_666: 5:08pm On Sep 11, 2012
Just came from work (3pm my local time), a friend rang my bell some minutes later. As we were discussing some business stuff, his phone rang. His face could not hide the shock. He asked me if my TV is working. I asked which channel he wants and he replied "Any. It does not matter, they all show the same content anyway right now".
