hummmmm why would you interpret the link in this way ?

if you intend to go with a Uni visa and make a switch to a CC as soon as you enter then any news about such topic should interest you as it might potentially affect you or anyone planning that pathway ....so you ensure you know what the rules or implications or situations are .....

instead of reading it and noting, you responded back with crase , smoke and die ...... i am puzzled

Perhaps, he believes he can curse his way out of Rex Tillerson's clampdown. The more amazing thing is that this person wants to go to "school" but cannot bear to read a news report and re-consider his plans in light of the new information.

So try University of Lagos or Obafemi Awolowo University is an insult ................ alright

Not an insult.

It's like this: You go to the market and "price" yam, the seller tells you his "last price" and show you the yams in your price range.

Simple AF.

thanks for the prompt response boss. I actually studied economics, hoping to apply for a masters in financial economics.
undergraduate CGPA is 3.03/5.

TBH, will be very tough getting in an MFE with 3.03/5.00. It will be a very heavy lift, you will have to blow your Quant out of the water.

What school are you looking at for the MFE?

When the GRE official results are ready, do we get an email or do we have to login to see the test report?

dont mind these yeye people. . it does happen , some are just more comfortable paring with who they either feel more comfortable or who they feel is more like them

but i recall this as well.... just check you are not doing anything that puts anyone off. sometimes u might not know you are (some of our naija habits and ways are different ) but time adjust people behaviours and processes to suit the immediate environment. ...

in the meantime dont let it get your down. with time it will normalise so pay little attention to it or it will start affecting you unknowingly . continue to reach out to see who will pair with u as no man is an island and if they dont then do your own thing

Exactly. Continue to reach out, always. You will need people to survive.

DO NOT DO THIS!

So I have a question for those who have been in the US for a while :

Is it normal that you are been ostracized by the white folks like your classmates . I am not speaking racism, I have white friends and we talk and discuss on the regular but when it comes to like forming a group or having a partner everyone tries to avoid you.

The latest was on our last field trip. Everyone had sitting partners and I was left to sit alone undecided . Even my "so called friends.

Is this a normal experience or it's just me ?

I do not know about school, what I have done is an internship.

Naturally, people are after their own success and some will probably perceive you as a "diversity candidate" that is just there to fill a quota; I experienced this in my internship. Some would ask ridiculous questions and suggest that I had it much easier getting into the program then they did.

You have to show that you are just as smart as they are. What I did was to put up all my accomplishments on my LinkedIn page and leave some of my stellar professional exam results lying around carelessly; I would also ask well researched and choreographed questions that challenged the instructor. You also have to be friendly and know how to massage egos.

It's a lot, really. But being in school presents you with a prime opportunity to hone these skills as you will be needing them on the job (I am assuming you are doing a masters).

This may be a flash-point in attending schools that are not demographically diverse.

DreManuel:

For you to hit Q 162 in Manhattan, it means you could get up to 166 in real GRE, ceteris paribus. Manhattan's quant is a bit tougher than actual GRE and I recommend it for practice. But, Manhattan's Verbal doesn't mimic the actual GRE too well. Yes, they use a lot of fancy words but their RC are not as complex as that of the GRE. That doesn't mean you should abandon Manhattan, you should just know its limitations.

So I recommend using ETS official guide to GRE Verbal and ETS Revised GRE guide. You will see questions of different difficulty levels and are actual past GRE questions. You will learn a lot of strategies from Magoosh guide and Videos too.

You would have to be patient with yourself. GRE is testing skills they expect you to have learned from primary school up till now and not just from last two months. Sadly, we don't learn much of those skills from our schooling especially those of us from Science background. So, identify your weakness in Verbal first - for most people it's the RC, so focus more on practicing that part. Learn how to read very fast without losing meaning. Learn reading by "chunking". Learn to read actively. When you read, take notes - yes! there will be time for it and it helps you read actively. With practice you will get better. These are just General tips I can give now. If you have specific concerns you can ask.

I think @gokuu can also come to your aid; he scored 162 in Verbal.

I am blushing right now.
When a Scholar DreManuel serenades you online, you're probably be doing something right.

As per the verbal, SC is all about using words in context. Simply knowing the meaning of words is only a necessary condition; not a sufficient one. Honestly, I did not really prepare for the verbal - I only watched Magoosh videos and did practice tests.

BUT, I read a lot of New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Business Insider, Bloomberg and others, and I have been doing this even before I got into undergrad so I think that helped a lot.

Like DreManuel said, these things are built over the years; I guess that's why schools look closely at them. What you can do is read lots of foreign articles in the time you have to prepare - this will give you a lot of context and nuances on the use of words.

For RC: Practice your pacing! RC is the time killer for the exam; you must make sure you can read and internalise a 500-600 word passage in 3-4 mins. By internalize, I mean that you should know where to find specific information in a passage. This will save you a lot of time.

Good morning too everybody here...have always been a silent reader for a while now..pls I need help on how too write a statement of purpose on MBA in communication and public Relation please

I have never heard of this before but I am guessing this will pull close to marketing.

Therefore, what you can do is to use Google and search for: "mba in marketing statement of purpose"

In fact, in 0.72secs I have one for you: https://www.mbaadmissiongurus.com/sample-mba-sop/marketing

You can glean these essays and draft one that speaks to your own motivations; you will need to be authentic not just to convince the adcoms, but because adcoms have apps that spot copycats.

Lol. You're write though.

Apart from the loan, I don't think an MFE programme really suit my taste. A quant analyst would require more than the course work of an MFE.

Nevertheless, I might still opt for an MFE. I'm also considering the 5 years of doing a PhD on the other hand.
You're applying strictly to MFE programmes?
Nope. I am not applying to them.

Good afternoon everyone,

I've been following this thread for few weeks now. I need help at this point. Please, if you can, I'd appreciate it.

So I'm trying to apply to some schools in the states and I'm stuck at the point of statement of purpose. Did some research and it looks quite a bit uneasy like I'd thought it would be.

Please, I'm open to suggestions and advise from everyone. Or if I can get a sample SOP to leverage on, I certainly won't mind either.

Apologies for disturbing you'll. I look forward to someone helping me.

Thanks.

Sit down.

Browse the programme very well, as you do that you will see areas that resonate with you. Talk about your own agenda and link them up to the areas of the programme that resonate with you.

Most of these programmes hardly provide financial support. They consider it an investment on the part of the applicant.
I somehow agree with them but I don't think I want to take a student loan for it.
Yeah. That's what I was telling, it'll extremely hard to get funding for them.

But if not for them, what kind of programs can one take student loans?

For instance, the MFE programme at Baruch costs about 35k - but they have a first year pay average of 110k (excluding sign-on bonuses). And they have a 100% placement rate.

TBH, If I had a background in computer programming, I'd do it in a heart beat.

A former fellow intern went to the Columbia MFE programme right after our internship; and let's just say we're no longer on the same planet.

I agree with you, Even I experience racism, I do not think that should be a significant factor in my choosing schools, funding is more important.

Right. Funding is key. And BTW, Madison is heavily liberal and progressive.
