lord.spiritual:@ Lord Spiritual. . . Thanks a lot. May God bless your hustle abundantly. Please, I need: - ur phone number or email address. We would like to discuss a small biz with you - you to please modify that logo. It should read '2 0 1 3' and the lower text should be in CAPS THANKS |
Lord Spiritual, your work is AWESOME!! (esp. ur own logo and that of Firstlogic). Please could you design a logo for my class. We are graduating soon and we would like a logo. Employ ur genius carte-blanche, but there should be a caduceus, 'Faculty of Medicine' 'Nnamdi Azikiwe University' and 'Class of 2013' THANKS!! |
I'm so sorry I've been away. The glut of schoolwork is asphyxiating(especially Paediatrics). I understand the fears of fayimora & mobinga; but this stuff is my passion. I may probably have to wait for my graduation before doing programming full-time. I just wanted advice on how to get the engine running. I would have studied Comp Engineering but I didn't do Further Maths in my SSCE. The passion has always been there. Anywaiz, thanks a million for all the constructive arguments and counter-arguments. I've learnt a lot. God bless 1 Like |
Some people believe that doing your internship at a FMC will give you more practical knowledge whilst a Teaching Hospital is best for academic growth. However, you can still learn practical stuff at a TT tho. In some places, a lumbar puncture is a house officer's procedure while it is done by a registrar in other places. Since they are both Federal institutes, I don't think the salary disparity is much. You can still make money wherever you go by doing some good ol' PP ![]() |
What is happening o? Let's not allow this thread to die off. I had to search hard before finding it. Doctors are supposed to be at the top of the pyramid.*quote me* Our prolonged inactivity doesn't augur well. Can we stimulate discourse that is benefical to doctors and med students? Any piece of helpful news? Any job offers? Any pertinent questions? Any confused minds. |
There is no 'best'. Some choose the academic route and become professors, others take the clinical route and become consultants. Some successfully combine both. Others may delve into health mgt. Just choose ur niche and be a pro. A masters in public health might be a boost to your CV. "No doctor ever died from poverty" Prof. G.C Ezeilo |
Turning your certificate into millions. . .not meaning to burst your bubble but, the MBBS degree is not a ticket to the land of dollars and pounds. Doctors who have made the kind of money you speak of, have done so not because of good clinical acumen but probably good business or political nous. Do you know any examples of such doctors. Let's dissect 'em here and see what they did right. |
Have you completed ur house job? You can specialize in virgin areas like Chemical Pathology and Anaesthaesiology. The demand is still very high, unlike for Surgeons and Obstetricians. A Masters in Public Health or an M.Sc would put you in line for a prime post in the Health Administration. Don't be too concerned about 'booming' into millions. Medicine can only take you thus far. |
Hi I would to like to pose a question to all my senior colleagues on this forum. This is especially for doctors who are abreast of the Nigerian medical system. Do you feel that the current crop of 'doctors in political power' have failed their generation? What has life outside Medical School taught you? What would you do if you could re-do Med School? |
Thanks beneli, you're a godsend. I wouldn't say clinical medicine is scary;i personally find it interesting. The problem is knowing which area to plunge into and whether I would forever remain happy practicing it. Imagine, for instance, a paediatrician who becomes disenchanted with children! During my clinical postings, I've had love-hate relationships with almost every discipline/specialty. I feel strongly drawn to academics and health administration( mark my words, I WILL become Minister of Health someday!!!) but I'm not sure about its economic value in this climes. All book and no pay . . . Nevertheless, the future is an open book and things may change. I am just trying to get all the info and help from the elders on this forum so that I can properly chart my course. P.S , Sorry for 'disappearing' after the usmle stuff. School is tedious. Grateful for the help P.P.S, Just out of interest, at what point in your career did you decide to take the plunge and specialize in one area. |
I'm loving this forum. Its nice to have access to such helpful info. I have a question: I will soon be graduating from medical school; I would love to know the career options I can pursue with an MBBS degree? Most of my classmates talk about pursuing residencies and specializing in different fields. Are there other options for an MBBS holder who doesn't want to go into clinical medicine. THANKS FOR UR HELP |

Hello. I am a fifth year med student. I have always had a passion for computers and software but due to academic constraints, I wasn't able to study comp sci in the university. Nevertheless, I still want to make software apps(e.g my own model of 2go,skype). I have access to a personal computer and want to start. My questions are 1. What makes one a good programmer: The number of software books read OR the amount of time spent programming 2. When I boot my system, Which software helps me to actually start writing and executing code? |
Hello, I'm a 500l med student. I have been considering going to the US for a residency program in Internal Medicine when I graduate. I've done a little research and an exam called USMLE seems to be pretty important. Other stuff like US Clinical electives seem to be necessary. My questions are 1. How exactly do I transform from Naija med student to US resident? 2. Can I finish the American residency and still work in Nigeria as a consultant? 3. Is it possible to work in the UK after my NYSC while preparing for the USMLE? How? Thank you for responses |
Hello, I'm a 400l med student. I have been considering going to the US for a residency program in Internal Medicine when I graduate. I've done a lil research and an exam called USMLE seems to be pretty important. Other stuff like US Clinical electives seem to be necessary. My questions are 1. How exactly do I transform from Naija med student to US resident? 2. Can I finish the American residency and still work in Nigeria as a consultant? 3. When I surf through USMLE online forums, so many study aids e.g Kaplan are mentioned. Are they available in Nigeria? 4. Is it possible to work in the UK after my NYSC while preparing for the USMLE? How? |
Fantastic and hilarious stuff. Keep it up. Am impressed |
G'day to you all. Even though I am not yet a doctor,i have enjoyed this forum as i have learnt loads of stuff. I am a 300 level med student at NAUTH and i have a question. What is the benefit of having a DISTINCTION in any of your MBBS papers/e.g anatomy/? I heard that it gives you an edge in professional exams. Thanks |

Well, Frank 3.16, Your story is alright. However, you have asked for criticism. I will grant your wish BUT I will be harsh as well as frank with you. I pray that you understand that my beef is with the loopholes in your tale AND NOT with you. Everything that i say here is subject to controversy Here Goes, I feel that your story is TOO PLAIN. I want you to thrill me with some comedy, romance or horror. Hang me in suspense when you are writing. It won't matter if your story is too long once it is captivation. I wonder if you have read the Harry Potter series; J.K Rowling keeps her story spicy. Every paragraph has to be grasping. Some Nairalanders may have read your story and found it too long but look at the size of Harry Potter 5 and imagine people(me included) reading that kind of book twice or thrice just b'cos it tingles the imagination. Don't Just fill your story with plain drama; that might make a good movie BUT NOT a good book. I think that you BOMBARD US WITH TOO MUCH INFORMATION. This is the problem with writing from an omniscient point of view; the readers know everything. For instance, you should not have told us that Brenda asked Michael whether he was the Cyber Lover(this might make us think that Michael is the cyber lover) . Deceive us for a while(Deception is a part of suspense). You could have written a part of the tale from Weird 000'S point of view. You have a good eye for detail but if you overload us with information, you make the story too bogus and painful to read. You also kill the suspense. Anyway, my time is almost up and I have to go but I have to say that I am impressed with the Weird 000 concept. I mean, how can someone know the colour of a lady's underwear? That's explosive. Kudos for that. Keep writing. I thank God that Writers' Block has not caught with you. May you never get infected in Jesus name. Amen ![]() |
Nancy should be a cold hard killer of a woman. She may even try and take out the whole Family to avenge her husband. Tony is a Boss, keep him for later. Obviously, nancy regrets killing Delois, but she had to do it. GOOD JOB nabahood |
Maedan, abeg continue with your story. It really whet my appetite and i would like you to continue. Ma pa mi lekun o |
I can't believe that Turai is now having so much power. She is only a first lady not the President. Very soon, She will be representing Nigeria at official events. Even Michelle Obama no dey 'control' things like this ![]() |
