And in His greatest hour of need, he took three out of these trusted friends, His closest friends, the very same ones He took to the mount of transfiguration: He took with him Peter and two sons of Zebedee to bare His heart to them that they might stand by him and with Him. He began to say to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even unto death; tarry here, and watch with me”. But, alas, they disappointed Him at that decisive hour, when He needed them most.

They all ignored His request and plight as they went to sleep and had their rest. These were the disciples He raised from servants to the status of friendship in John 15; the disciples He made known to, all things He had heard from His Father. These were the friends He was going to lay down His life for as He said in John 15: 13.

“Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends”. Even in His hour of betrayal, He still loved Judas and called him His friend (Matt. 26:50). Of a truth, the Lord is a friend indeed. Proverbs 18:24 says, “ A man who hath friends must show himself friendly; and there is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother”, and in another development, it is said that “A friend loveth at all times” (Prov. 17:17). A hymn writer once wrote: “What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and grieves to bear …Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?.


He bears all our sins and grieves; He shares in our sorrows, trials and temptations; He is a friend and a friend that loveth at all times. He is the “Iron that sharpeneth iron; a man (or friend) that sharpeneth the countenance of his friends” as Proverbs 27:17 puts it. And yet in His hour of trial, when He desired that friends tarry with Him and watch with Him in agonizing prayer, he was disappointed. He is not a disappointment but was Himself disappointed.

His disciples could not show themselves friendly; they could not, sharpen the sorrowful countenance of their friend. It really pains when closest friends disappoint. Many a times, we are badly wounded and hurt by the friends when all is well; when there is something they are getting, but when the tide changes, then we have nobody. That is the world. It really hurts when good friends who should stand by one in the hour of his trials begin to make excuses and keep a distance. At such a time:


“And one shall say unto him (that is isolated), what are these wounds in thine hands? The he shall answer, those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends” – Zech. 13:16.
Wounds by the enemies do not hurt as much as those inflicted by trusted friends. It could be you have never really been in friendship before. You won’t know the depth of what I am saying. Friends make promises and fail to keep them; friends find faults when what one needs from them is comfort and love. I mean, it kills. I do not know what “watching” and “praying” , “tarrying in prayer” of the disciples could have achieved for Jesus. Yet He needed them and their prayers.

In Job’s own experience in his greatest moments of need, he lamented that:
“My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar (close) friends have forgotten me” – Job 19:14.
Just like our friends do, or we do, they had earlier promised to mourn with him and to comfort him before they began to find faults with him.
“Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came everyone from his own place …for they made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him” – Job 2:11

But we were soon to learn from Job that those familiar, closet friends had forgotten him and that they had turns out to be “Miserable comforters” (Job 19:14; 16:2). The Psalmist recalls his own role in the lives of his bosom friends when they were in trouble:
“But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into mine own bosom. I behave myself as though he had been my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourneth for his mother” – Ps. 35: 13, 14

A teenager’s reality is different from an adult’s consciousness though both may live in the same house. You see, your reality is determined by your state of mind, your environment of course does influence your consciousness, but ultimately, it is what you allow your mind to assimilate that will shape your reality. What you see in yourself and how you see yourself is a function of the dominant thoughts resident in your mind. Kindly note, it’s the dominant thoughts and not the fleeting thoughts that molds your mental state.


The fleeting thoughts have no effect on the mind unless they are allowed to perch, then they begin to mold the mind according to the nature of their fabric. A cluttered mind will result in a confused individual. What is your reality – consciousness? What are you always conscious about? If you can determine your consciousness, then know for certain that it is possible to change it.

If you don’t like your present reality, you can always change it. God has given you the ability to change what you don’t want and accept what you like. If you are not comfortable with an experience in your life, you have the God-given ability to change it. The question now is how do I change my present unfavourable reality to the expected favourable reality?


Put A Gate At The Entrance Of Your Mind
Guard your heart with all vigilance, for out of it are the issues (sources) of life. Prov 4:23
Get hold of your mind and don’t allow the filth of this world to be dumped into it. The mind at whatever age is malleable to external influences, especially if those influences are coming from “trusted” sources,

like spiritual leaders and close friends. It is your responsibility to stand guard at the entrance of your mind, it’s not everything you should allow in because a lot of inbound stuffs are useless and some are out rightly harmful.


See What You Want In Your Mind First.
And the LORD said to Abram… Lift up your eyes, and look northward, southward, eastward, and westward: For all the land which you SEE, will I give to you and your seed forever. Gen 13:14-15.
When you pray to God to open your mind’s eyes to see what He has for you, He will open them. Ask for divine direction and guidance, you will amazed at His leading. You will not be disappointed.

With God’s guidance create the desired reality in your mind. Make it as vivid and as clear as possible. Don’t leave anything to chance. When you have a vivid picture of what you want, put it down on paper. Never leave great ideas in the realm of the mind, always write them down. If you don’t put them down in writing, you may forget and recalling them later may be difficult.


Talk Your Dream Into Existence.

If you don’t talk it, it will remain a dream and nothing about your circumstances will change. Talk your dream now. Note that I did not say “Talk about your dream”, I said, “Talk your dream”. They are two different things.

When you talk your dream, you put yourself in the action mode. You are motivated to take action, whereas, when you talk about your dream, it leaves you in a state of inertia, you are unsure of what to do that is why you are talking about it to get people’s opinion on how to make your dream turn to reality.


I am blessed by Default
For instance, if I want to create a reality of being a blessed man, I will say, “I am blessed by default” and coupled with the consciousness of being blessed I will then start living in the consciousness of being blessed by default. Everything around me must be in sync with my talk of being blessed. The talk must match the action which must match my dream before it can become my reality (consciousness). Any consciousness of curse must deliberately be discarded; this is at variance with the “blessed” consciousness.

This is talking the dream as against discussing the dream to seek approval before taking action which will only keep you in a state of inactivity.

God our Creator, the Alpha and Omega is interested in the affairs of man. Who knows a product better than the manufacturer? Likewise, who knows man better than his Creator - God? He knows what we want before we speak. He knows our thoughts and intents. He knows the end from the beginning. He is the I AM that I AM, He pre-exist Time. He is the All-Sufficient, Self -Sufficient and All-Sustaining God. Without Him we can do nothing, for in Him we live, and move and have our being. He is the essence of our existence.

Getting to know him, worship him, reverence him and allowing Him to have His way in our lives is the wisest thing to do as mortals - the fear (reverence) of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. Yet, in our finite mind, we think we can do without Him. We think we know it all, we think we don’t need His help, provision or protection. Notwithstanding, even at this depraved state of mind, He still allows the sun to shine on us and the rain to fall on all – what a merciful, loving and magnificent God.

Praising and worshiping God is an acknowledgement that He is our Creator and above us. It is an admission that we need His help to deal with life’s issues. Let us, therefore, humble ourselves before Him so that in due course He will exalt us. "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord"

Getting the inspiration and ideas to start and complete a project can sometimes be a daunting task - you have retired to a quiet place to still your senses and draw inspiration from your inner self, but alas it didn't work.Why not get in touch with the Creator for inspiration through praising and worshiping Him.

Praising God is like opening the floodgate of inspiration and ideas. it clears the cluttered mind and direct the focus on God who is the giver of life, trust him to direct your steps and show you the way to go.

Getting inspired is one of the benefits of praising God; you become spiritually tuned up to hear what God is saying to you. The human spirit becomes awake and alert while the mind also becomes receptive to the nudging of the Holy Spirit. At this elevated spiritual awareness, when you ask you shall receive, when you seek, you shall find and when you knock the door of inspiration, it will be opened for you.

Unfortunately, due to the hustling and bustling of everyday living, such moments are transient, the cares of this world encumber and distract us from drinking from the divine fountain of the Holy Spirit who has come to teach us all things and lead us into all truth.

Thus, it becomes imperative to always have a writing material with or near you (in whatever form – pen and paper or any digital device e.g. Smartphone, Tablet, PC or a recorder). Don’t take such moments for granted or assume you will be able to recall when you need to use such inspired ideas. Simply not true, don’t trust your memory.

Always, I repeat, always put your ideas down before you move on. Some inspired ideas once gone may never be captured again.

Capturing your God inspired ideas and storing them for later use cannot be over emphasized. Capture, store and able to retrieve are the sure steps to take when seeking inspiration from God.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
