Nairaland / General / Nairaland Hits 1 Million Members In Few Hours by ireti123: 7:49pm On Jan 16
PROUD to be part of this MADE IN NIGERIA SITE!
Looking back, it's an overdue journey. I noticed Nairaland when it keeps coming up as top Google Search results on Nigerian Issues and this user-driven site has got me coming back for more since my first time of visiting out of curiosity.

While it has been a place to discuss and learn about Nigeria & Nigerians all over the world; share ideas; do community service; ...; joke, 'yab' & get 'yabbed' and ease up the day's stress; it's been an under-utilised site in my view, with many hidden untapped potentials.

The recent adjustments are in the right direction though, keep it up.
Thumps up to Mr. Seun Osewa, congratulations!

Many of them don't make enough that can sustain them from the industry due to piracy & other issues, it's more like part-time job for the artists.
NYSC / Re: Nysc Batch B 2012 Imo State Meet Here by ireti123: 2:54pm On Jun 30, 2012
@melojames, i served in Imo state.
Like someone said earlier, go with the heart of service, most people re posted to schools, though they post to places relevant to ones area of study too.
Some might be rejected by their PPAs, some left waiting for some time, while some posted to irrelevant places with 'glorified' names or non-existent companies.
Make sure you agree concretely on conditions of service, like the pay, working hours, accomodation(if they re offering any), etc b4 acceptance, cos some private biz owners might try to play a fast one on you.
You shd ve enough time to improve yourself by taking prof. exams, developing new skills & planning for life after service.
Find time to serve God thru selfless service. I recommend Nigeria Christian Corpers' Fellowship(NCCF, it's non/inter-denominational).
Ask questions, consult reasonable senior corpers if anything is unclear to you.
Have a fulfilling service year!

The easiest way to get to the camp is to follow ITC bus(Imo transport company, if they ve a park in ur state) going to or passing thru Orlu, tell them u're going to Umudi camp, Nkwerre. You alight at Orlu junction, from there you take a bike or cab of N50 to camp. Going thru Owerri is long journey.
N.B.: ensure you move in group from the junction.
Music/Radio / Re: Your Most Favourite Radio Station & Presenter by ireti123: 4:50pm On Jun 29, 2012
Edmond Obilo of Splash 105.5 fm is my favourite for now, he's got a great voice & intimidating interviewing prowess(that's for the serious minded) . Joyce of Cool fm is my best female voice & personality on radio so far- makes those that phone-in feel very much at home & loved.
Nairaland / General / Re: How Many Facebook "Friends" Have You Got & How Many Do You Know In Person? by ireti123: 1:39pm On Jun 22, 2012
My friends are mainly from schs, organizations, etc i attended/ belong to, also with a long list of requests(some ve been there for over 2 year). There is this friend who threaten sometime ago to delete inactive friends who come online to read posts & ve never for once liked or commented on her updates. She probably need to get busy with a job or better still ask FB to pay her for the time spent online 'entertaining' others. Many people waste valuable time that could ve been spent on tangible stuffs on social networks & IMs, which seems to result in real life laziness.
Sports / Re: Why Can't We Have Decent Stadiums In Nigeria? by ireti123: 10:16pm On Jun 12, 2012
Why not ask yourself what we're making from the 'indecent' ones we have. We've been unable to maintain & generate 'decent' revenue from the existing ones yet you want a multi-billion naira stadium just for you to brag about it, the same way you use to do with the Abuja stadium. The world is evolving everyday, a decent stadium today won't be same in 10yrs.
Sport in Nigeria is more of a charity by our governments, making little or no contribution to the nation's GDP and shouldn't be among our priority for now.

Education / Re: Is Intelligence Overrated: What You Really Need To Succeed by ireti123: 4:45pm On May 11, 2012
I agree with the breakdown of intelligence as given in the writeup. Intelligence is subjective. The fact that you're good in doing something doesn't mean you can't be clueless with something else. Looking at our society today, you discover that many "learned" people look down on those they refer to as illiterates, who have their own areas of competencies too. While exposure to more knowledge elevates some people through its application, it cages others cos it restrict them from exploring the world around them. That's one of the reasons why some people are not ready to start small by taking lower paying jobs or starting businesses of their own because they ve friends earning fat salaries from jobs that can't go round. Intelligence should be defined based on peoples areas of competency. Don't be suprised that some holders of MBA from renowned schools will only fit into the top management of established organisation, but find it difficult starting one from the scratch. That's why working in teams is important, we are all very good in doing different thing of our own.

Religion / Re: Bishop Oyedepo's Proposed Canaan City In Pictures by ireti123: 6:13pm On Apr 30, 2012
Hearing all these- what is on ground, what is underway- i see a Visionary Leader. How many people like this do we have in this country? For those criticizing(leaving religion out of this): who are you today, what are your plans to make life better for others, how many people listen to you, how many people can/have you influenced towards becoming better, can you put yourself in this man's shoes and compare your state of mind & level of reasoning with his, can you administer 1% of what this man overseeshuh??
Answer these questions before making just any uninformed comments.

Politics / Re: Why Is Diezani Allison-madueke Adverts Everywhere? by ireti123: 4:36pm On Apr 27, 2012
The question we shd ask is why are political office holders making adverts to show their work in office, who is paying for the adverts, are they doing it for a 2nd term in office or for future political ambitionhuh When they ought to be sensitizing the public they are busy telling us they are working, what shd you be doing if not the work you're paid for?
I noticed that of Allison on air even before the subsidy removal issue, claiming disappearance of queues since she came into office ... I observed same it NAFDAC (nafdac is working bla bla bla).
We shd ve legislations against all these stuffs- our political system is to blame!
Career / Re: Jack Of All Trade? Help! by ireti123: 8:48pm On Apr 25, 2012
@OP, remember that there is a season for everything on earth, the openings you have today might not be there tomorrow. The title of ur post says alot already as well as the replys. Start acting on the ideas you're able to combine effectively with ur studies, cos you ve a reason for choosing the course in the first place. As you start implementing, you develop the capacity to accomodate more and even build & inspire other individuals. Take time out to think over what you want to start with, allowing God to lead you. Having too many things you could do can cause depression.
Live ur dream!

Politics / Re: The North That Southerners Don’t Know by ireti123: 7:09pm On Apr 17, 2012
Nice post! I met many bright minds from the north during my service year & they made similar defences as touching religion, ethnicity, etc. In my opinion the enlightened northerners have been too silent on these issues and seems to have little influence on the rest of them who know less. That's why people down south makes jokes of northerners as dirty molas(the way Yorubas call mallam), who spit everywhere even while preparing snacks (like kulikuli) for sale, and many who come to work in the south are know more with menial jobs as bush clearers, gatemen, well diggers, shoe menders, commercial beggars, etc, though we sometimes mistake nigeriens for northerners also.
People like you from the north need to be more outspoken on issues like these and rise in defense when discriminatory & unverified comments are passed on the north, just as this post is enlightening the ignorant.
Thumps up!

Makes one wonder why a select few world powers has more than 50% voting right(veto)? Yet we all clamour for democracy. The US nomination of an Asian American was actually a very smart political move. Many lessons in international politics from this!

Phones / Re: RIM Retreats From Consumer Market After $125M Loss by ireti123: 12:01am On Mar 31, 2012
BB is the fastest selling second-hand phone is Nigeria. Maybe that why they don't know they ve lot of potential in developing economies like ours. BB arguably has the most attractive bundled data service in Nigeria and if reasonably affordable, almost everyone will own one. The BB boom here is the opposite of happenings in places like the US where other smartphones are taking over the market. I feel companies like RIM don't appreciate what they can make out of economies like ours.
Politics / Re: Goodluck Jonathan Listed On Times 100 Most Important People On Earth by ireti123: 11:36pm On Mar 30, 2012
Why shouldn't the head of the largest black nation with the potential of becoming one of the biggest economies in the world be on that list. Why not question the inclusion of the US president, hillary clinton or ben bernarke. We need to make informed contributions here, not condemning things that shd be our pride. It's sad many people on NL don't see nothing good in Iweala becoming the world bank president. Please we need to adjust our viewpoints & see issues like this like leaders not like jokers, some people come here to learn.
Career / Re: Writing A Job-Winning CV: 5 Important Things You Should Do by ireti123: 5:00pm On Mar 30, 2012
CV to me is a waste of time to the HR, and should be out of date by now as a questionaire to get same info during assessments like tests can be used to get more realistic details about the applicant than the stereotyped ones given in CVs. There is info all over the internet to guide you write a "good resume". Anybody, even those without the necessary skills & know how, can make use of the socalled keywords and get called for the next phase of recruitment. Everybody claims to be a goal getter, can work under pressure without supervision, self motivated, and the likes these days, yet are same people that find it difficult to take initiative to study while still in school. In my own opinion, CVs are good, but shouldn't be the starting point of recruitment process, especially for entry level.
