Car Talk / Re: Why Do Nigerians Hate Peugeot Cars With Emphasis On 407 & 607.. by jimts(m): 8:38pm On Apr 09
This comment will annoy a lot of people on this thread, but look, I don't care...Peugeots are one of the most terrible cars you can own/work on as a mechanic.
I'll give my reasons from experience:

1. Peugeot engines are mostly fitted with timing belts and on Peugeots in particular, these belts snap in service. You can find a Toyota engine with timing belt doing 200,000 miles plus on the original timing belt. In fact many Japanese brands can reach this mileage without a timing belt replacement, but you see Peugeot, skip timing belt of 60k miles and see what happens. And once you're ready to change it, you have to replace water pump, idler pulley, tensioner and so on. Though this applies to all other brands too but with peugeot, the frequency of doing this can be frustrating. No to mention the difficulty of finding OEM parts with expensive price tags. I have lost count of the number of times friends call me to seek assistance of broken timing belt while they were on their way to doing something important. So yeah, this is very common with Peugeot.

2. Electronic problems are a huge concern with these cars. You can jam the door too hard and this car will go into "lock mode" where the body systems interface(BSI) will refuse to send a start authorization signal to the ECU(aka brain box) hence immobilizing the car from starting. You go crank tire! To fix this problem, you will need someone with PP2000 or Lexia to restore the handshake between the chip key transponder and the BSI. The worse thing is that it can happen anytime anywhere. Meaning that you can be left stranded in the middle of no where. Another common electronic problem is the Drive-By-Wire(DBW) throttle body that can just refuse to respond, once again you need a specialist to reprogram the throttle body.

3. Automatic transmission problems are almost an unavoidable reality that a Peugeot owner will face at least once in their ownership experience over the years. The terrible thing is that the problems always starts with simple harsh shifts or mild sluggishness and then graduates to loud bangs during upshift or a very unpleasant thump during downshift. It may even decide not to go into gear. This is why you will find that the majority of Peugeot owners choose manual over automatics. They are so problematic!

4. You always need a specialist. You can't just give your Peugeot to a regular Japanese or European mecho and expect him to give you good results all the time. There are electronic problems he can't fix for you no matter how hard he tries because it will cost him money to acquire the diagnostics tooling that will give him that capability. It is easier for Peugeot mechos to work on other brands than it is for other brand mechos to work on Peugeot.

There are lots of things I can say, but from experience, I'd tell you that the least problematic ones among them are the 406s and 206s. You those ones that end with 7, I'm telling you, visit the Peugeot specialist in Ladipo and see how may 307s are there compared to 206 and 406 combined.

Car Talk / Re: My Corolla Jerks And Stall In The Morning At First Drive, Help!!! by jimts(m): 5:44pm On Apr 09
izaac23:

The first few days the problem started, it jerks on idling when i kick the engine in the morning, but after few days, the jerking stoped on idling and was now jerking on my first drive of the day, especially when I load it with A/C when driving, if I throttle down, it will stall and vibrate instead of responding, then pick and drop and pick.

But it will stop the jerking altogether after driving a while for the day and becomes normal for the rest of the day.

We can start this diagnostics with the investigation of the Idle Air Control Valve which is an integral component of the throttle body (aka "injector mouth"wink.

If you can't do this yourself, find a mecho an instruct him to remove the throttle body and unscrew the IAC valve. Check if it clogged. If yes, clean it, use very thin bead rtv gasket maker to seal all surfaces. See attached image
Reassemble and check if the problem persist and then revert..

Good morning pals,
I have done as stated, I bought Visa fuel injector cleaner and poured it inside a full tank, fired it for 40mins on a highway, then reaching where I went, I fired back again.

The next morning, when I came to test drive it, the problem still persisted

My gurus, Is there any other recommendation in the house pls,

Is there anyone who has experienced this problem before, I need your expert advice pls.

This might need someone with real diagnostics skills fo figure out. Your 2003 Corolla uses drive by cable throttle body. When is it misfiring on idle, or when moving down the road or both?

Since you said the car was working fine before things went south all of a sudden, I will be suspecting that something failed, something that has close relationship with fuel metering.
I would be suspecting a leaking fuel injector or a failed idle air control valve. It could be a lot of things but let's start with the simple stuff first

Remote assistance is possible only to an extent, if you're lucky, we might get to the root cause of the problem.

Revert soon while I'm free let's see how we can tackle this.

Hello Everyone,

Just travelled down to my state from Lagos and as I was about getting home, My es330 stopped as I was about climbing a bump. I eventually started it after it was a bit reluctant and packed by the road side upon which I discovered the coolant was totally dry and temperature Guage was high,

Also discovered the fans were rolling at very slow speed.

This is my second overheating experience with this Car. 3 years used.

what should I look out for when with a mechanic.

Also does anyone have any experience with maintaining a Rx400H or Rx450H. My current es330 not mpg efficient at ol.

Sorry about your experience. Fortunately for me, my ownership experience with the ES330 was a very stress-free one until I decided to get an SUV and put it up for sale recently.

For you to have driven for very long before you ran our of coolant, this is likely a very small leak that you may not be able to see easily with your naked eyes. In fact, the coolant loss might be in form of steam as you're driving down the road. It could be from your radiator cap, there could be a small crack on the top of bottom radiator manifold, it could be a punctured cell, it could be an improperly installed hose clamp, it could be a leaking reservoir or any of the hoses in the coolant lines....hell it could even be a leaking headgasket where coolant sips into the combustion chamber and washes the piston crown. Long story short, there's a lot to inspect to be able to pinpoint the problem and this might need a remote diagnosis.
The coolant fans rolling slowly might be a faulty ECTS sensor on the radiator manifold below..i.e if the wiring of the car is still functioning as it should.

Remote diagnosis is difficult, if you're in Abj, then perhaps I can give a hand.

Keep up the good work, that vendor should be Investigated, the conclusion most people will draw from this experience is that their vendor started selling fakes (knowingly or unknowingly), if the same brand of oil shut off the warning lights and had engine working optimally then the last oil change didn't go well, the sellers of fake oil don't have a heart, they know the implication is this dark behaviour of theirs (buyer spending thousands on engine rebuild or a million+ on used engine with no warranty) but they don't care.
Also, all forums are like this, rather than it being a proper forum, a place where people come together to discuss issues, share experiences and ideas, tips and tricks, it often becomes a place to attack one in the trade, challenge expertise, and or downplay an experience, na normal thing, let us all keep sharing, the forum has already become a compendium of knowledge, bants and cruise, lets keep it so Naija hard lol.

I have been using this car for 2 years with no issue but yesterday while driving the radio just went off and immediately the car shut down while
Driving and won’t start immediately,I had to wait for an hour before it could start again ,same thing happened today ,I took the car to a rewire for scan he said it’s a wiring problem

Has anyone had similar issue before ??

Did he show you with evidence how it is a wiring problem? And how did he say he planned to fix it?

Did it rain heavily in recent times in your area?
Was there ANY work done on the car prior to this happening.
Find someone competent to tell you exactly what he would do to fix the problem and charge you accordingly. Don't allow anyone to "rewire" your car, you will lose taste with the outcome.

All this epistle for a simple question?
No one is an authority in car repairs. Not even the manufacturers because they also recall their products and improve on their errors.

It was indeed originally a simple question but later laced with intents of sarcasm in your following comments. Read the ensuing comments after your question and tell me why it is not necessary for me to make out time and respond to your question holistically.

I started my original comment with "I don't want to call out a brand wrongly", to tell you that I had reservations about the brand knowing that my colleagues in the trade recommend the oil for use.

Do you know that the vendor later apologized to the car owner for everything that happened. Do you know that during the overhaul of the engine, I met a choked oil filter? Do you know that the oil vendor threatened her oil filter supplier for counterfeit product? And it is the SAME product she has been supplying my customers for more than 5 years?

No abeg, the epistle was necessary. But like I said, I mean no single pint of disrespect to anyone and as you have rightly said, no one is an authority in this space. Recalls and class action lawsuits fly all over the place when manufacturer make errors/mistakes in their cars. So yeah, its all good!

jceesquare:

So was it the Hardex that killed the engine and cause the slip?
Just curious to know.
And how if it's the culprit.

Thanks for asking.
The background story is that it is this same Hardex that the customer has been using for about a year plus. Upon first engagement with the customer, I asked them which oil they use in their Camry 2AZ engine (I noticed this particular engine wasn't burning oil, contrary what we know of most 2AZ engine), he said they use Hardex for both cars, then I told him to maintain using the oil. In fact, I've heard from other colleagues that the oil is good, just haven't tried it yet.

When the customer gave me the car for other tune-ups, I insisted that I won't change the oil because I can't find that particular brand around me. This time, it was the camry I worked on. After a month plus of delivering the car, they decided to change oil for both cars at once on the SAME day by the SAME mechanic they've been using in their area from the SAME vendor for oil and filter.
Now, a week after the oil change, he called me on phone to tell me that he heard some weird sound when started the camry that morning. I was curious, I burnt my fuel, got to his house and replicated the problem. This is NOT the regular cold start rattling sound of vvt gear and the sound last for up to a minute before it disappears. No oil light, checked vvt solenoid and it looked dirty. I cleaned it and reinstalled. Problem disappeared only for a few days. I came back again, cleaned the vvt filter screen behind the engine(it wasn't even dirty). It persisted!
Meanwhile, that same period, his wife driving the Acura started complaining that sometimes after she starts the car the oil light stay for some seconds before it goes off. Then there was this warning on the gauge cluster (oil pressure low). I removed the oil pressure sensor/switch, cleaned it and put it back. Problem disappeared for a few days just like the camry. I adviced them to do another oil change for both cars, that this coincidence is just weird. They said they couldn't afford to, so I told them to at LEAST change the filters and let's monitor and see. They didn't do that! A few weeks from that time, the camry engine knocked when the man was driving to work. Some car owners are not observant or are careless. Even when the car was making that grinding noise continously, the man decided to still drive to work like that. His wife warned him not to, but he persisted. Now, on the same day after the deed was done, he called me to seek towing assistance. He also sent me video to confirm the "sound" of the engine. It was obviously a knocking sound. He had sent same video to his wife and she confirmed that the engine was knocked even before he sought my assistance. Now, the wife being a bit more experienced than him with car repairs, called me and asked me to inquire price of engine and gear(the gear to had shifting concerns, we already had plans to replace it, faulty ABS module destroyed the gear because they drove it for months without speedo readings, a lot of crazy things happening on the dash back then which I helped them rectify). As I was giving the wife feedback on the engine price while on phone, I heard her saying that the engine oil light for the Acura was blinking when she just started the car now. I told her to immediately shut it off and seek the attention of a nearby mech. She finally agreed that she will go aggressive with this situation and went ahead to change the oil and filter. Guess what, all the oil related problems for the Acura disappeared. Funny thing is, she used the same oil but from another vendor.
The camry ended up being towed to my workshop, weeks after I had time for it, we replaced the spun bearings, cut the crankshaft without opening the top cylinder. Everything was done from below. The gear too, we overhauled it because they couldn't buy toks for 450k back then. We restored it for 250k plus about 200k for the engine. The car has been on the road for more than 2 months now. They've not called me to lay any complain except to plan for next oil change.

So here's the deal, mechanics/car owners come here to explain their experiences with cars to the best of their ability in order to give or seek assistance, if you just show up to disregard all they've said just because you feel you're an authority in the car repair industry, it completely nullifies the whole point of the forum. People can make mistake, yes! When they do, call to their attention where the mistake/error is in order to protect other forum members from being misled. But if all one looks out for is to downplay the input of his fellow petrol heads, then it completely negates the need for a thread like this. I don't mean any disrespect to anyone for saying this, its just something noteworthy in order to ensure that the original purpose of a thread is sustained.

Thank you,

Car Talk / Re: Help Me Recommend A Good Car Between 10-15M by jimts(m): 4:19pm On Apr 04
OP,

It can be very hurtful for one to seek second opinion from others in a bid to solidify one's original wishes only to end up being discouraged from that intention completely.

It is based on generally agreed users opinion that range rovers are money pits. This concensus is not by bystanders, it is from people with previous ownership experience of these cars. They just tend to fall apart even when you're fulfilling all righteousness in making sure everything stays working. Many LandRover products have needed a complete engine replacement at just 50,000 miles. This is when it is still under warranty. So it is true, Foreign used or not, these cars will fall apart.

Now, let's look on the bright side. Assuming you are into a particular kind of business line in which being flashy and looking expensive is what it takes to close more sales/win more contracts, then by all means, buy the car! Just be ready to live with the eventual circumstances. Find a LR specialist and don't try to cut corners on repairs when the need arises.

PS:
Assuming you had another spare 7-8m, it will be advisable to get an additional Toks Toyota Corolla 2011/2012 or a Camry Muscle of the same year. You will use this one as your domestic runabout car and then use the RR as a "turn up" kind of car. This advice is best applicable if the RR is the only car you will be owning.

Too many variant of mobil oil there are;
1.
The oga pata pata of them all na Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic 0W-40. This is sold at 60k(5 liters) in Madalla Mobil filling station

2. There's this one they call 3000, I think 22k 4liters

3. There's one they call 1000 xhp 20W-50, I think 18k

4. There's this one with blue gallon they call "special", 20W-50, this was the one I bought last time I was there @14,500.

This was on 01/04/2024

Use the same grade as the one you've been using.

For your ES350, the recommended oil is 5W-30

The catalyst has been worked, yes.

This particular one will cost between 50-80k to replace depending on location and your mechanic's greed.

That said, a failed catalyst will not cause the symptoms you are currently complaining about. If the codes you are getting are p0141/p0420 and so on, your car will only consume more fuel than normal but the engine won't behave the way yours is doing.

Had the mecho confirmed that there's no restriction is the exhaust channel?

Car Talk / Re: Between Toyota Corolla 2010 And Toyota Camry 2010 by jimts(m): 9:42am On Mar 28
Any of the two cars is a good option even though slightly have difference in class.

The Corolla is a simple daily driver, excellent fuel economy but compact in size. So if you're someone who prefers practicality over presence, pick the Corolla. The fuel consumption numbers are 29/26/34mpg combined/city/highway. What this means is that you will be burning around 1liter for every 12.3km distance covered on the average.

The camry is a midsized sedan, slightly heavier than the Corolla and has class and presence. More like a mild "I have arrived" kind of car. It's fuel consumption numbers are slightly higher than that of the Corolla.
The fuel consumption numbers are 26/22/32mpg combined/city/highway. What this means is that you will be burning around 1liter for every 11km distance covered. For this particular one, buy 2011 or late 2010 model that comes with 2.5L 2AR engine(aka venza engine)

Your budget is already very very good, you will get something called "Toks Standard" with that amount.
I will only add that if this is your first car, add 2-3m to get a direct Toks. You will have a much more gentle learning with car repairs, hence giving you ample time to catch-up with the crooked behaviors of many mechanics out there.

The ball is in your court..All the best!

Car Talk / Re: Please Help, problem With My Honda Accord!!! by jimts(m): 12:07am On Mar 25
Dear OP,
Please don't panic.

I've dealt with these kind of problems on Mercedes and Ford brands and in most cases, it ends up being a CAN box. This is a small junction box that tie the car's CAN gateway multiplex connections together. If there's any corrosion due to moisture getting there, problems like these will arise mostly after a long drive. Typically, when you shut off the car and restart, the problem disappears momentarily and returns later after you've forgotten about it. These kind of problems are intermittent and can be very hard to replicate at the point of diagnosis.

It sounds easy, but it needs a lot of patience and hands-on car tech skill and proper tooling to be able to sort this one out.

Another regular culprit of this can be as a result of a weak battery. When the car's battery is on its last lap, it will occasionally freak out some of the modules on the car and then end up causing chaos in the CAN-BUS
network.

I am open to assist you remotely.

₦6.7B spent on 18,400 orphans, that's ₦364,130 roughly..
Now, let's set a benchmark. The minimum wage for lowest salary earner in Nigeria is ₦30,000.
This implies that the orphans will receive in an amount that is equal to 12months salary of a minimum wage earner.

Deductions:
If a government has bluntly refused to increase minimum wage to ₦100k for workers who spend 24/30 days in a month working, what are the odds that they will willingly spend ₦360k om orphans that are almost non-existent as far as Nigeria's government is concerned?

Car Talk / Re: Intending Buyers Of Naija Used Cars, Pls Be Very Carefull by jimts(m): 12:35am On Mar 09
Truth of the matter is that more Nigerian used cars are being recirculated among different users than ever before. The affordability of foreign used cars is at its all time low. From November 2023 till date, the prices of cars(naija & foreign used) have almost doubled.

Case in point: Honda Accord 2008 that I bought in September for just 1.8m, restored it and resolved to an end User for 2.6m in November is now worth at least 3.5m with abeg.

One of the most common reasons why people are buying Naija used cars is that they are extremely enticed by low price. Today, there a lot of distress sale cars out there that have actually distressed the owner from daily use. A good percentage of distress sale cars today are sold right after leaving a workshop or at the workshop itself. Dealers keep numbers of mechanics to be able to buy the so-called distress sale cars that they will manageably "repackage" and sell to you the unsuspecting innocent buyer.

Buying Naija used car is not a sin, but falling for the price/urgency trap is what lands many new car owners in an irredeemable mess.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind before buying a Naija used car;

1.Set a realistic budget.
What do I mean?
Okay, check it. Let's take a Lexus RX330 2006 as a sample space. Now, a Direct toks of this vehicle will be retailing for around ₦9-₦13m as at the time of typing this. If you are looking to buy a Naija used one, set your budget around 60-70% of the price for a Toks. If you do the math, that's roughly between ₦6-8m.
Around this price range, you will get a car with good history that the owner probably swapped with a dealer for a higher car like RX350 2010. The dealer might have valued the car at ₦4m and then the deficit was paid by the buyer. So if he sells between 6-8m, he will be very happy with his trade and be willing to go the extra mile to fix minor issues that the car came with. He might spend some money on it to restore the minor problems that will make the early days/weeks/months for the new owner to be problem free.

2. Read/research about the common problems.

Every car you see on the road has common problems. These are problems that the car came with from the factory that you will definitely experience at one point of the car's lifetime. Some of those common problems were so severe or posted safety concerns that the Automakers actually issue a recall on the affected cars. For some, the problems were fixed during the recall process, for others, the cars have been shipped outside the recall coverge area/warranty period.
For example, 2008-2009 Toyota Camry Muscle/Spider/Voltron with 2AZ engine is known to have a factory detect of oil burning. I don't care which grade of oil you use, I don't care whether you bought it Toks, more than 70% of the Camry Muscle you see on Nigerian roads today with that 2AZ engine will have this problem. This problem is due a poor design in the engine oil control groove oil drain holes in the piston. The holes were so tiny that instead of oil that has been scraped by the oil rings to flow into the groove and squirt down the holes to return into the crank case, the oil actually makes its way upwards into the cumbustion chamber and gets burned. This problem is so serious that Toyota replaced the engine with 2AR engjne(aka "venza" engine) in 2010 model starting from late 2009.

So if you read/researched about the car you are buying, you will find that you would already know what to look out for even before engaging a dealer to get you a car.

3. Find a trusted and educated mechanic.
To be frank, trusted mechanics are very difficult to find, so also are the educated ones. Many mechanics go rogue after spending some time in the auto repair industry due to low compensation for jobs. There are others that were trained to be crooks by their bosses. In fact, your so-called trusted mechanic can be compromised upon arrival at the point of inspection. The dealer will give him a covert casual signal and they will both connive to mislead you just because of extra 20k that he will be getting from the dealer. He will now later use your car to be solving his family problems little by little. An educated mechanic will probably know the root cause of most problems he fixes on cars, so if he's giving you green light to buy a car with a particular problem, he will tell you exactly how he will arrest the problem with the potential cost to be incurred.

So the thing is, before you set out, ask your trusted friends to connect you with a mechanic with the above qualities. You might be lucky to find one or two in your area.

4. Cut your coat smaller than your size.

This sounds counter intuitive but lemme explain real quick.
For perspective, I am fairly a well-to-do guy, I won't say I am currently wealthy but I solve all my financial problems myself and also render assistance to people in need when I can. I have a good business that generates sustainable income that can afford me to live a flamboyant lifestyle to drive a "BENZ" or a "BMW". When I decided that I needed a daily car, i bought a Direct Toks 2006 Toyota Corolla S. As at that time, i could afford to buy a fairly 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-350 or a Lexus ES350 2010, but no, i chose a direct Toks corolla which i bought for just 4.2m. This was Feb 2023. If had added just ₦1-2 to that amount, I could buy the Benz or the Lexus. I didn’t do that becasue I wanted a car that will serve me, not the one I will be serving. Lolz! I would have paid more money to inherit someone else's problem.

Till I sold the car this year Feb, I dont think I spent upto 200k in repairs money and the fuel economy also saved me a lot of unnecessary expenses when subsidy vamoosed. The biggest thing I replaced were full set of tyres (which i bought immediately after buying the car), front shocks, starter brush, fuel pump, brake pads..dazzool I can remember.

So the deal is, the car was like a toy that i can play with without fearing what next would break because no matter what, it will never take away 100k from my pocket for just 1 spare part. So that's that.

5. Prepare your mind for repairs/restoration.

Many are mad, few are roaming!
Many of the Nigerian used cars you see on the road have at least one type of sko-sko that is waiting to blow alarm. The best ones are the ones with minor cosmetic issues that you as an end user won't find appealing. Dents, scratches, unlapped bumper lines and so on might be hiding a car with pristine mechanical/electrical background. You won't know! Becasue it looks haggered and tattered, you will tell your dealer to just pass.
The rule of thumb here is, lets say your whole budget is ₦10m for a naija used 2014 toyota Rav4. Look for a car around ₦9m-9.5m max. So that after you purchase and settle everyone involved, you will have money to buy tyres if they are worn out. You can change the oil to the recommended manufacturer spec which would prolong the engine life and give you a trouble-free experience from a mechanical standpoint. You might need to to drain all other fluids and use the OEM recommended ones just to fulfil all righteousness.

6. Pray to your Creator to guide you.

See ehh, even though this is the last tip, it is much more important than I can explain. Prayer will make the money you transferred for a potentially problematic car reverse even if you kept trying over and over. Prayer will make the dealer tell you that, my chairman, I no go lie, you no go enjoy this, increase your budget small make I give you that one. That prayer is what will touch the hearts of fellow human beings that you are relating with to AT LEAST treat you fairly. Make dem no go dey see you as one mugu.

So there you go, everywhere hot now, before you spend shingbai on top car mathias, you gas to use 99% intelligency...you hear me oo??

Business / Re: Why Exactly Is The Cement Price Going Up This Way? by jimts(m): 8:03pm On Feb 17
MASTERCHIEF0847:

Mumu, so because it's produced in Nigeria that has epileptic power supply and because the raw materials are locally sourced then it means the cost of production will not increase?
Limestone is mined from the quarry using heavy equipment that runs on diesel that is selling for over a thousand naira per liter. Others like gypsum are mostly imported and paid for in dollars which the naira cannot keep up with, coupled with the cost of diesel needed to run the cement factory and cost of transportation.... but a slow being like you believes the cement manufacturers just want to punish the masses.
Educate yourself you illiterate...or better still establish your cement factory so you can produce and sell for 1000 naira per 50kg bag. Banza kawaii.

You sound like someone I know
Nazir is that you cheesy

Check around the catcher that holds down the bonnet, if you find an unplugged connector there, please reconnect it. If you don't, then you might need someone to physically carry out parasitic draw test.

Please l drive Acura MDX, my battery always run down in the morning, and when parked for a prolonged time even when everything is off, Rewire could not detect what's running the battery down, please what should I do?

When did this start?
I fixed a similar problem on 2008 Acura MDX. You might have the same problem.

The best two cars ever made by Toyota and Honda are these, Toyota Supra and Honda NXS-R.Period. grin
Accords and Camrys are for the elderly, mothers with babies and Chinese people. cool

Some people with funny comments sha...someone is asking advice for a daily driver that suits the Nigerian situation, you are bullying them with your fantasies. The two cars you mentioned can't be driven freely with rest of mind on more than 70% of Nigerian roads.
I am not even trying to offend you, but your goofy tone of bullying the OP is just appalling.

Car Talk / Re: Auto Gurus Help With P0015 And P0012 Errors by jimts(m): 9:01pm On Sep 29, 2023
ecosystm:
Last two weeks ago, my mechanic worked on my crankshaft..and since then I have been experiencing occasional misfires and loss of power and poor mileage on my car..Toyota corolla 2009, I called his attention to these issues but he insisted I should continue driving and after sometimes everything will normalised..

Checked engine light and maint light kept popping on my dashboard..

Error codes are: P0015 and p0012

Pls auto gurus in house pls i need assistance on what to do..

Thanks

Are you sure he worked on the crankshaft or camshaft?

For reference, a crankshaft job is done on the bottom of the engine. The oil sump(aka bottom plate) will have to be removed for this job to be done. If it is the camshaft, most of the job done will be on top of the engine. For reference, the valve cover will be removed.

If it is the first case(as far as the top cylinder of the engine was not removed), then the problem is still fixable.
On the contrary, if it is the second case, he probably welded cam phasors permanently on the camshaft. The remedy to this will be replaced the camshaft phasor assembly for intake and exhaust side. I recommend you use the same mechanic but make sure you monitor and tell him EXACTLY what he should do, don't let him tell you that he has been doing this job since the days of Gowon. If he won't agree, change him.

My car is barely a year, I celebrated this car with my nairaland family last year. My mechanic wants to damage my car out of careless, my radiator had a leak so I went to fix it, , the mechanic that lose the radiator in order for the radiator man to fix and wash the radiator, in the process the radiator man used a tube conver to block the gearbox host that’s in the radiator so after putting the radiator my mechanic forgot to remove the tube and went and put the host to gearbox, so yesterday I drove the car for quite a distance I noticed smoke coming from my exhaust and bonnet, I stopped to check it couldn’t find the issue I called mechanic and he said oil. Is leaking from gearbox from the host that he has corrected it, I went on my Way, after some distance my car was in Drive but making noise and not moving, I parked it, calling my mechanic I discovered the tube conver was blocking the host, I went and bought atf sea horse dextron III 6liters on his advice for me to add to the gear box, after this my gear was selecting fine, but while I driving it makes loud noise but accelerate slowly even on 40 50, please gurus what should I do. Gearbox man I met said, the fiber have burnt that I have to buy fiber and also gearbox oil, but my car selects well, reverse well only drive is slow and makes loud acceleration noise but moves slowly even on 50, please I need help and answers, I’m feeling well now

What was the reason for "washing" the radiator?

The chances of fixing a leaking radiator permanently are very minimal. You should have simply changed the radiator altogether.

My recommendations;
Replace radiator
Replace the 2 transmission coolant hoses
Replace the transmission (gearbox)

Any other alternative will only end costing more money eventually + frustration.

Oh, and lastly..sack your mecho!

I doubt any electrician will give him an ecu with part payment. It's not their property, it's a part seller's property unless the part seller and electrician reaches an agreement

See eehn chief, in addition to this point, an ECU seller will ask you that what if there's wiring problem with the car and it fries the the new ecu too or cause it to have the same problem that the damaged one has.

I once gave someone this kind of advice remotely for this same type of problem, the part seller gave me this excuse. I just told the car owner to hold on until I returned. I did an adaptation reset and it fixed the problem las las.
