Crime / The First Armed Robber To Publicly Executed In Nigeria by Keenysbojan(m): 1:46pm On Jul 07, 2020
The name Babatunde Folorunsho seems nice and pleasant to the ear, but his beard in the history of Nigeria was actually a daylight terror and a nightmare to Nigerians in the early 1979s.

Babatunde Folorunsho was an armed robber and a hardened criminal who threaten the peace and security of Nigerians in the 1970s, with his ruthless group of gang.

He reigned almost the same time as the kingpin of Nigerian armed robbers, Ishola Oyenusi Also known as Doctor Rob and kill.

Babatunde Folorunsho was named "Baba Oni lace(Mr lace), because of his love for lace outfits which he even wore during his robbery operations.

During his horrific reign, Babatunde Folorunsho topped the list of the most notorious and wanted criminals in Nigeria.

He was being hunted by both the police and local guards but all to no avail. During this time, crime rate was at its peak in the country as a result of the civil war that just ended.

Folorunsho alias Baba oni laye seemed invincible but unfortunately for him, he was apprehended by the police during one of his robbery operation on a fateful day in 1971.

He was charged with robbing one Mr. Alfred Marshal car. The entire Nation jubilated as Babatunde Folorunsho was finally apprehended by the police.

On the 8th and 13thvof April, 1971, Babatunde Folorunsho was tried and found guilty of highway robbery. The judge presiding the case, James Agboola Ojomo, sentenced him to death by firing squad.

He was to be executed on the 24th of July, 1971. Thousands of Nigerians rushed to the popular Bar Beach in Lagos where he is expected to be killed by firing squad. That was the first time in the history of Nigeria some will be executed in public.

In chains, Babatunde Folorunsho who was dressed in lace and other criminals were walked to the stakes and tied up. The other two criminals were Williams Alders Oyazimo and Joseph Ilobo.

Joseph Ilobo protested to the last moment as he didn't accept fate easily unlike Folorunsho.

Ati a point he looked at the crown and said, "are all these people here to see me die? Ah! This is a wicked world. I haven't committed any crime".

Williams Alders Oyazimo was a sub lieutenant in the Nigerian Navy. Oyazimo 2as approached by the millitary chaplain, Col. Pedro Martin's, and asked him to pray for forgiveness but he said "Father, I am innocent. My blood will cleanse my family and my children will prosper." Oyazimo's last word touched the heart of many Nigerians. It was such a pathetic moment.

According to source, Williams Alders might be truly innocent. His execution was likely as a result of personal feud with some high ranking officers. He and Joseph were accused of Robbing A loud speaker and record player belonging to one Alhaji Talibatu which was valued at the equivalent of ₦320. They both please not guilty but were sentenced to death anyway.

Rain of bullets fell on the trio's bodies. Their lifeless bodies were inspected, untied and then taken away for burial.

The entire Nation celebrated the death of Babatunde Folorunsho alias Baba oni lace.

Foreign Affairs / Russians Vote On Putin's Reforms To Constitution by Keenysbojan(m): 12:34pm On Jun 25, 2020
Russia has begun voting on constitutional reforms that could allow President Vladimir Putin to serve another two terms in office.

The official vote is scheduled for 1 July, but authorities said they were opening polling stations a week early to stop overcrowding amid the pandemic.

Opposition activist Alexei Navalny has said the changes will allow Mr Putin to be "president for life".

Mr Putin, however, has said they will ensure Russia's stability.

Although the president has not publicly said he would run again in 2024 when his current term ends, he has said it is vital he has the option.

"Otherwise I know that in two years, instead of working normally at all levels of the state, all eyes will be on the search for potential successors," he said in an interview earlier this week.

What are people voting on?

The big changes would limit a president's rule to two six-year terms in total, rather than two consecutive terms, and reset the clock so Mr Putin could continue in office after 2024.

Aside from potentially allowing him to lead Russia until 2036 - the reforms would give the president power to nominate top judges and prosecutors for approval by Russia's upper house of parliament.

They would also entrench conservative measures in the constitution, including an effective ban on gay marriage and an affirmation of Russia's "faith in God".

And economic changes would also be enshrined, including on the minimum wage and adjusting the state pension in line with inflation.

Roughly 110 million voters from Kaliningrad on the Baltic coast to Kamchatka on the Pacific are eligible to vote. Officials are providing masks and hand sanitiser at polling stations across the country.

The BBC's Sarah Rainsford in Moscow says a big turnout is vital for the Kremlin.

Officials have confirmed that people with Russian passports in separatist-controlled eastern Ukraine will also be allowed to take part.

Last year, President Putin made it easier for residents to get Russian passports and officials estimate some 150,000 people in the rebel-held areas of Luhansk and Donetsk could take part.

What do critics say?

Mr Navalny, a figurehead of Russia's opposition, has called the vote a "coup" and a "violation of the constitution". Some argue Mr Putin is trying to cling to power, or give himself an option to stay on if he cannot find a suitable successor.

The 67-year-old former KGB agent has led Russia for 20 years, both as president and prime minister.

But his popularity levels have dropped in recent years thanks to economic struggles and deeply controversial reforms to the pension system.

Mr Putin introduced the reforms to Russia's 1993 constitution in January, and they have already been adopted in both the houses of parliament in Moscow. But the president said a public vote would give the changes legitimacy, and initially scheduled the poll for April before delaying it due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Activists organised marches to oppose the vote the same month but authorities banned them, citing rules about public gatherings amid the coronavirus lockdown.

A website set up to collect signatures of people opposed to the vote was shut down by the courts.

Senior politicians around the country have come out in favour of the changes, and observers believe there is little doubt the measure will pass. Copies of the new constitution are already on sale in Russian bookshops.

Many have questioned the timing of Russia's World War Two Victory Parade. Tens of thousands of troops marched through Moscow on Wednesday - despite a ban on mass gatherings under lockdown rules - just a day before voting began.

What about the coronavirus?

The pandemic has further dented Mr Putin's standing.

Russia has the third-highest number of recorded infections worldwide, with 613,994 confirmed cases and 8,605 deaths - although critics believe the true death toll is far higher.

Latest figures released on Thursday showed there were 7,113 new cases reported over the last 24 hours. In May, Russia reported more than 10,000 new cases a day for more than a week.

Health / Coronavirus: Human Trial Of New Vaccine Begins In UK by Keenysbojan(m): 9:55pm On Jun 24, 2020
Volunteers have begun being immunised with a new UK coronavirus vaccine.
About 300 people will have the vaccine over the coming weeks, as part of a trial led by Prof Robin Shattock and his colleagues, at Imperial College London.

Tests in animals suggest the vaccine is safe and triggers an effective immune response.

Experts at Oxford University have already started human trials.

The trials are among many across the world - there are around 120 vaccine programmes under way.

'I volunteered to help beat the virus'

Kathy, 39, who works in finance, is one of the first volunteers taking part in the Imperial trial.
She said she volunteered because she wanted to play a part in fighting the virus.

"I think it came from not really knowing what I could do to help, and this turned out to be something that I could do.

"And understanding that it's not likely that things will get back to normal until there is a vaccine, so wanting to be part of that progress as well."

After this first phase, another trial is being planned for October, involving 6,000 people.
The Imperial team hopes the vaccine could be distributed in the UK and overseas from early 2021.

A new approach

Many traditional vaccines are based on a weakened or modified form of virus, or parts of it, but the Imperial vaccine is based on a new approach, using synthetic strands of genetic code, called RNA, which mimic the virus.

Once injected into muscle, the RNA self-amplifies - generating copies of itself - and instructs the body's own cells to make copies of a spike protein found on the outside of the virus.

This should train the immune system to recognise and fight coronavirus without having to develop Covid-19.

Because only a tiny amount of genetic code is used in the Imperial vaccine, a little goes a very long way. The Imperial team says one litre of its synthetic material will be enough to produce two million doses.

Those doses have been produced in the US, but later this year manufacturing is switching to the UK, so that if and when it needs to be mass produced, it can be done here.

All clinical trials begin carefully and slowly to reduce safety risks. When the Oxford vaccine began in April, only two volunteers were immunised on the first day. Within a week, 100 were being jabbed every day.

The unique nature of the Imperial vaccine means that only one volunteer will be immunised on the first day, followed by three more every 48 hours.

After a week or so, numbers will slowly ramp up.
Unlike the Oxford vaccine, which uses one dose, volunteers on the Imperial trial will get two shots, four weeks apart.

Prof Shattock and his team say there are no particular safety concerns with their jab - it's simply the newness of the approach which is making them proceed with caution.

There are more than 120 coronavirus vaccines in early development across the world. Most of these will never get beyond the laboratory.

A further 13 are now in clinical trials: five in China, three in the United States, two in the UK, one in Australia, Germany and Russia.

All the vaccine teams are keen to stress that they are not in a race against each other, but against the virus. If there are to be enough doses to protect the world, several vaccine approaches will need to be successful.

Prof Shattock said: "We've been able to produce a vaccine from scratch and take it to human trials in just a few months.

"If our approach works and the vaccine provides effective protection against disease, it could revolutionise how we respond to disease outbreaks in future."

Chief investigator for the study, Dr Katrina Pollock, added: "I wouldn't be working on this trial if I didn't feel cautiously optimistic that we will see a great immune response in our participants.

"The pre-clinical data looked very promising. We're getting a neutralising antibody response which is the immune response you would want to protect from infection. But there's still a long way to go to evaluate this vaccine."

The research has been funded by £41m from the UK government, as well as £5m of other donations.

Crime / Will The 'war On Terror' Ever End? by Keenysbojan(m): 12:09pm On Jun 24, 2020
Last weekend's deadly knife attack in Reading, west of London, has been an uncomfortable reminder that the threat of terrorism has not gone away. But what about the so-called War on Terror, as declared by US President George W Bush in 2001? Is it still going on? And if not, has it been a triumph or a massive waste of money?

Nearly 19 years on from the day America was attacked on 11 September 2001 thousands of US servicemen and women remain stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Gulf and the Horn of Africa.

Drone strikes in remote regions of the world continue to target suspected terrorist leaders; counter-terrorism budgets across the world have ballooned to astronomical proportions to meet a myriad of ongoing threats.

Sasha Havliclek, the CEO of the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, has been following this war since its inception.

She maintains there is a distinction between the rhetoric and the reality:
"The rhetoric was done away with the minute President [Barack] Obama came into office [in 2009] but in reality there was much more continuity than rupture in the tactics of the war on terror.

Under the Obama administration it's well known that they massively scaled up droning attacks, for instance, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. And for all the talk of America First now.. and I think there is a wide perception that this is winding down... we've actually seen a continued expansion of US counter-terrorism operations."

'A determined group of enemies'

That's a view largely endorsed by the man appointed by President Donald Trump as the US State Department's co-ordinator for counter-terrorism, Ambassador Nathan Sales. I asked him whether this war - as originally conceived by the Bush administration - is over?

"No, the fight is very much ongoing, we're winning the fight but we're continuing to fight against a determined enemy or I should say a determined group of enemies."

He points to the example of Islamic State (IS) where a vast, multi-national coalition successfully eliminated the last of the jihadists' physical caliphate at Baghuz in Syria last year, as well as its leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi. Yet IS affiliates and networks, he concedes, are still very active around the world.

On Wednesday, the State Department releases its annual Country Terrorism Reports.

To some in Washington, it must have all seemed so clear-cut in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks on the US.

Announcing the start of the "War on Terror" back then, President Bush declared that you were "either with us or against us".

There was no middle ground, no allowance made for the subtle nuances of the Middle East with its ever-shifting alliances and allegiances.

In Iraq, which the US and Britain invaded in 2003, this uncompromising position turned potential allies into enemies, laying the foundations for today's ongoing global jihadist movement.

Mina Al-Orabi is the Editor of the UAE newspaper The National. She is originally from Mosul, Iraq's second city, which was devastated during the battle to dislodge IS from its streets.

"'In Iraq," she says, "there were clear instances where the United States undercut the Iraqi state.

Of course in 2003 the decision to dismantle the police and the military, the decision to put tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of young men out of work… with the idea that they should be completely excluded from the country, that became the nucleus for al-Qaeda in Iraq and then the nucleus of IS."

'Far from over'

Other policy mistakes have also been made as a part of this war that, although later reversed by President Obama, continue to have consequences today.

The detention of hundreds of suspects without trial in Guantanamo Bay, the practice of "extraordinary rendition" - blindfolding terror suspects and flying them across the world to CIA "black sites" where they were subjected to prolonged and "enhanced interrogation".

These have all been used by critics of the West to undermine its moral authority.

Ambassador Sales from the US state department says that "the world has learned a lot of lessons about what works and what doesn't and we've incorporated those lessons into our current approaches".

He is particularly irked by those critics of Guantanamo Bay, including Washington's Western partners, who have now abandoned their citizens in desolate camps strung out across Syria and Iraq. He says these countries should take them back.

It is impossible to pin down exactly how much the "War on Terror" has cost but most estimates put it well in excess of US $1 trillion.

The vast bulk of that has been spent on "kinetic" military action, as well as intelligence-gathering and drone strikes.

Only a tiny fraction has gone towards prevention - steering people away from the path of extremism. Shiraz Maher from Kings College London's International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation believes this war has helped spawn many of today's other problems in society.

"If you look at things like the wider Islamic State and Syria and Iraq or these types of thing," he says, "then that fuelled a degree of xenophobia in Europe, that fuelled a degree of suspicion and hostility towards Muslims, which translated into animosity towards refugees and the refugee crisis that was a result of Syria.

So you can see a cascading series of consequences.

So I think it's fair to say that the 'War on Terror' is far from over in many senses."

So will there ever be an end to this amorphous campaign? Will there be a decisive "Mission Accomplished" moment that brings the so-called War on Terror to a close? It is unlikely. Because, like crime, terrorism can only be reduced to what officials call "manageable levels".

And today there is already a newly emerging threat, that of far-right extremism, something that will likely breathe new life into what appears to be a War without End.

Sports / Djokovic Tests Positive For Covid-19 by Keenysbojan(m): 4:21pm On Jun 23, 2020
Novak Djokovic: World number one becomes latest tennis player to test positive for corona virus

World number one Novak Djokovic has become the latest tennis player to test positive for Covid-19.

It comes after Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki all revealed they had coronavirus after playing at Djokovic's Adria Tour competition.

Djokovic, 33, played fellow Serb Troicki in the first event in Belgrade

The remaining Aria Tour events in Banja Luka and Sarajevo have now been cancelled, Djokovic's brother Djordje has confirmed.

"Unfortunately, due to all the events that happened in the last few days, we have decided that the most important thing right now is to stabilise the epidemiological situation, as well as for everyone to recover," said Djordje Djokovic, who is a director of the tournament.

Britain's Andy Murray said the positive tests were a "lesson for us", while Australian Nick Kyrgios called playing a "bone-headed decision".

A statement on Djokovic's website said: "Immediately upon his arrival in Belgrade [after the second event] Novak was tested along with all members of the family and the team with whom he was in Belgrade and Zadar. He is not showing any symptoms."

There have been no ATP Tour events since February because of the global pandemic and the Adria Tour, which is not an ATP Tour event, was one of the first competitions to be staged since then.

The first leg in Serbia attracted 4,000 fans, and players were later pictured dancing close together in a Belgrade nightclub.

Bulgaria's Dimitrov played Croatia's Coric on Saturday in the second leg in Zadar, Croatia.

With Croatia easing lockdown measures, players were not obliged to observe social distancing rules and were seen embracing at the net at the end of their matches.

Pictures on the tournament's social media site from Friday showed Dimitrov playing basketball with Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Marin Cilic, while he also put his arm around Coric before their match.

Zverev, Cilic and Andrey Rublev, who also played in the Adria Tour, have tested negative, but suggested they will all now self-isolate for up to 14 days.

The ATP Tour season is set to restart on 14 August and the US Open will be held without fans from 31 August to 13 September, despite some players voicing concerns about travelling to New York.

I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection - Djokovic's statement

The moment we arrived in Belgrade we went to be tested. My result is positive, just as Jelena's, while the results of our children are negative.

Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions.

Our tournament meant to unite and share a message of solidarity and compassion throughout the region.

The Tour has been designed to help both established and up and coming tennis players from South-Eastern Europe to gain access to some competitive tennis while the various tours are on hold due to Covid-19.

It was born with a philanthropic idea, to direct all raised funds towards people in need and it warmed my heart to see how everybody strongly responded.

We organized the tournament when the virus has weakened, believing the conditions for hosting the Tour had been met.

Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality we are learning to cope and live with. I am hoping things will ease with time so we can all resume lives the way they were.

I am extremely sorry for each individual case of infection. I hope it will not complicate anyone's health situation and everyone will be fine.

I will remain in self-isolation for the next 14 days, and repeat the test in five days.

Foreign Affairs / Trump Targets Foreign Workers With New Visa Freeze by Keenysbojan(m): 8:53am On Jun 23, 2020
US President Donald Trump has extended a pause on some green cards and suspended visas for other foreign workers until the end of 2020.

High-skilled tech workers, non-agricultural seasonal helpers, au pairs and top executives will be affected.

The White House said the move will create jobs for Americans hurting economically due to the pandemic.

But critics say the White House is exploiting the coronavirus pandemic to tighten up immigration laws.

Who's affected?

In a briefing for reporters, the administration said the freeze, in place through the end of the year, would impact about 525,000 people.

That includes an estimated 170,000 people blocked by the decision to extend a ban on some new green cards - which grants permanent residence to foreigners.

The White House first announced it was halting those visas in April, an order that had been set to expire on Monday.

Existing visa holders are not expected to be affected under the new restrictions announced on Monday.

The order also applies to H-1B visas, many of which are granted to Indian tech workers. Critics say these visas have allowed Silicon Valley companies to outsource American jobs to lower-paid foreign employees.

Last year, there were about 225,000 applications competing for 85,000 spots available through the H1-B visa programme.

The order will suspend most H-2B visas for seasonal workers, including those in the hospitality industry, except those in agriculture, the food processing industry and healthcare professionals.

The order will restrict J-1 short-term exchange visas , a category that includes university students and foreign au pairs who provide childcare. Professors and scholars are not included in the order. There will be a provision to request exemptions.

L visas for managers and other key employees of multinational corporations will also be suspended.

What's the reaction?

The aim is to get "the best and the brightest" and "the most value for our economy", a senior official said on the background call.

Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, which favours restrictions, told AP news agency: "This is a bold move by the Trump administration to protect American jobs."

But the American Civil Liberties Union said: "It's the exploitation of a pandemic to reshape immigration law, while superseding Congress."

The new policy is also opposed by many businesses, which rely on foreign workers.

"As the economy rebounds, American businesses will need assurances that they can meet all their workforce needs," the Chamber of Commerce wrote in a letter this month warning against new restrictions.

"To that end, it is crucial that they have access to talent both domestically and from around the world."

Religion / Saudi Arabia Bars International Hajj Pilgrims by Keenysbojan(m): 10:44pm On Jun 22, 2020
Saudi Arabia has banned international visitors from making the Islamic pilgrimage, or Hajj, this year in a bid to control coronavirus.

Only a very limited number of people currently living in the kingdom may take part, an announcement on state media says.

An estimated two million people would otherwise have visited Mecca and Medina this summer for the annual gathering.

There had been fears the Hajj might be cancelled altogether.

In normal times the pilgrimage is one of the most significant moments in the Muslim religious calendar.

But only citizens from countries around the world who are already resident in Saudi Arabia will be allowed to attend this year.

The authorities say this is the only way they will be able to make plans for social distancing that will keep people safe.

Saudi Arabia has recorded 161,005 cases of infection and 1,307 deaths. It only lifted a nationwide lockdown at the weekend .

What is the Hajj?

Making the pilgrimage at least once is one of the Five Pillars of Islam - the five obligations that every Muslim, who is in good health and can afford it, must satisfy in order to live a good and responsible life, according to Islam.

Pilgrims gather in Mecca to stand before the structure known as the Kaaba, praising Allah (God) together.

They perform other acts of worship too, renewing their sense of purpose in the world.

Education / This Quote Is Very Wrong, Desist From It by Keenysbojan(m): 10:15am On Jun 22, 2020
There is this popular saying that

The Devil you know is better than the Angel you don't know

Advance English dictionary define Evil as a cruel wicked and inhumane person, and Evil supernatural being.

And also we all know that Devil depicts evil no matter how you want to refrain it, nothing good comes from the Devil so why should we associate ourselves with the devil?

While the advance dictionary define Angel as a person with exceptional holiness, spiritual being attendant of God

The Angel you don't even know does his primary assignment by keeping, guiding and watching over you

So why should you prefer to know the Devil than Knowing the Angel that will surely bring you good things without asking for it..

My opinion tho

Oh my God, who did we offend. The cases kept rising day by day.

Why cant the FG take my advice as an expert.

Total lockdown till further notice is the only way to defeat this deadly virus.

Nigerians should learn to bear pains and only then we will overcome.

Two months lockdown wont kill us. I urge the federal government for the last time to declare a total lockdown or faxe the wrath of the Nigerian youths.

Enough is enough.

Foreign Affairs / Crowds Gather For Trump Rally Despite Virus Fears by Keenysbojan(m): 10:36pm On Jun 20, 2020
Long queues have formed outside an arena where President Donald Trump will hold his first rally since March, when the US coronavirus lockdown began.

There are concerns the event at Tulsa's 19,000-seat Bank of Oklahoma Center could increase the spread of Covid-19.

Those attending must sign a waiver protecting the Trump campaign from responsibility for any illness.

Hours before the rally, the campaign said six staff members involved in organising it had tested positive.

On Friday, Oklahoma's supreme court rejected a lawsuit asking that social distancing guidelines be followed.

The Trump campaign has said attendees will have to pass temperature checks before being allowed into the venue - and that they will be offered face masks.

More than 2.2 million cases of Covid-19 and 119,000 associated deaths have been reported in the US, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Mr Trump's re-election campaign rally will be one of the biggest indoor gatherings in the US since the country's Covid-19 outbreak began.

Campaign officials said they had received more than a million ticket requests, and that the president would speak inside the BOK Center as well as at an outdoor stage set up nearby for overflow crowds.

Supporters began queuing earlier this week for a chance to get into the arena, and 100,000 people or more were expected to gather in central Tulsa.

This week the number of new cases of Covid-19 in Oklahoma has been rising and local health officials fear the rally could become a "super spreader" event.

There will be no social distancing at the rally. And although face masks will be given out to those attending, the president will not be wearing one.

Attendees will have to accept a disclaimer that they "voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to Covid-19 and agree not to hold Donald J. Trump for President, Inc." liable for any illness or injury.

In a Facebook post, Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum acknowledged that Tulsa's residents were divided over it being the first city to host such an event.

"We do this as our positive Covid-19 cases are rising, but while our hospital capacity remains strong. Some think it is great, some think it is reckless. Regardless of where each of us falls on that spectrum, we will go through it as a community," he wrote.

Political rallies are a source of inspiration as well as invigoration for Donald Trump. He draws energy from arenas filled with enthusiastic supporters, and uses their responses to the various riffs in his sometimes long, free-form speeches to sense what issues resonate with his loyal base.

For more than three months, as Covid-19 has spread across the US, the president has had to do without these emotional and strategic sounding boards.

Now, the rallies are coming back, even though cases of the virus are reaching new record peaks in many states and public health officials continue to warn of the dangers of large gatherings.

With less than five months until election day, the president is billing this as the beginning of his re-election bid. Given that he held his official campaign kick-off in Orlando almost exactly a year ago, it perhaps is better seen as a re-boot of a campaign that has struggled to gain its footing as the nation has been beset by the pandemic and mass demonstrations against institutional racism and excessive force by police.

The president is now billing his campaign around the slogan "the Great American Comeback".

Given the recent turmoil, and Mr Trump's sagging poll numbers, he is clearly hoping the Tulsa rally is the beginning of his own political revival.

There are also concerns among officials in Tulsa that there will be clashes between supporters and opponents of the president.

Emotions are still running high following the killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, by police in Minneapolis last month, which sparked widespread anti-racism protests.

Mayor Bynum declared on Thursday a curfew covering the area around the BOK Center, citing the risk of "civil unrest". But on Friday, Mr Trump announced that the curfew had been lifted for "our many supporters" .

He also warned : "Any protesters, anarchists, agitators, looters or lowlifes who are going to Oklahoma please understand, you will not be treated like you have been in New York, Seattle, or Minneapolis. It will be a much different scene!"

Mr Trump had planned to hold the rally on Friday. But he changed the date last week after learning it fell on Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the US.

The choice of location is also controversial. In 1921, Tulsa was the scene of a race riot in which white mobs attacked black people and businesses.

At a peaceful Juneteenth rally in Tulsa on Friday, the civil rights activist Al Sharpton said campaigners could "Make America Great" for everybody for the first time.
