They only teach you to read, remember, write and come out with good grades.

the problem is that this graduate always depend on their certificates rather than the knowledge they got from the university.

That is why an electrical engineering graduate will rather work in a bank than to start up an electrical based business because he did not get the knowledge of electrical engineering but rather he got the certificate.


We need to change our thinking from 'I want to get a good grade so that I can get a good job' to something like 'I want to go to the university to acquire the information needed to be a successful engineer or lawyer.'

Learning some skills is very important.
Still,the NYSC is compulsory and I will advise new graduates to go for your nysc immediately you have graduated.
If you start working before going for your nysc ,especially if it is a high paying job,you may not go for the nysc again.
Not going for the nysc will most likely haunt you in the future.
Clear all so that you know you are not owing anybody or entity anything,including government.
And you can always learn new skills during your nysc program.

what the op is saying is that you need to find your compass before going for your NYSC because your certificate might not guarantee you a job after NYSC.


But I understand you, because I aslo believe that NYSC is something you need to ďo ontime because of the stress and distraction involved, but the truth is if an individual does not have any direction in life before going for NYSC, that individual might likely depend on his/her certificate after NYSC which is a very risky decision because he might spend years jobless because he is patiently waiting for a company to employ him and if after waiting for like 5 years, he might decide to take the job that is available but the pay is quite low.
That is why so many first and second class upper graduates always end up in a low paying job after spending years at home.
