A lot of eyebrows were raised, when the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, appointed Nollywood actress, Nkiru Sylvanus, as his special assistant on Lagos Matters. Well, that appointment has been terminated. According to blogger Linda Ikeji, whoinsisted she heard this from reliable sources, “The Abia state born actress had been battling several people since her appointment last year, who felt she didn’t deserve the position asa non-Imo state indigene and also because they felt the appointment was meaningless and unnecessary as they didn’t understand her job specification. “They also felt she got the appointment because of her ‘friendship’ with the governor and not because she knew anything about running a public office. These people worked tirelessly to get her out of government house, and if what I’m hearing is correct, they’ve succeeded.” SOURCE |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is once again in the news, barely three days after he predicted revolution in the country. However, the former military Head ofStates this time was not a prophet but a psychologist. Speaking yesterday on the occasion of the former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme’s 80th birthday, the retired General told Ekwueme that he was close to the “departure lounge”, advising him to devote the rest of his life to his family and the nation. Ekwueme was born on October 21, 1932, while Obasanjo was born on March 5, 1937. He said, “The only octogenarian on the high table, and I don’t think thereis even another person on the other side of the table, even in the hall (that is up to 80 years). “My brother and friend, and I think the Senate President regards you as atrue democrat; I will join the others in congratulating you on your recent crossing of the bar. “But let me just warn you that crossing the bar or becoming 80 sometimes means you are getting nearer the departure lounge. “I will get into the car park with you,but I won’t go into the departure lounge with you.” His comments drew laughter from the audience. Ekwueme then whispered words to Obasanjo who in turns replied him in pidgin, “As wecome, na so we go go,” which literally means that those who come to the world first would be the first to die. Dignitaries who attended the event include Senate President, David Mark;his Deputy Ike Ekweremadu; Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha among many others.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/13/obasanjo-80-year-old-ekwueme-you-getting-nearer-departure-lounge/ |
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjoon Monday confessed that he was almost forced to rig the election that brought Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano into power in 2003. The erstwhile president while speaking in Abuja yesterday where he chaired a session of a round-table on Party Politics organized by the National Institute for Legislative Studies, said he refused to succumb the pressure he faced from oppositions despite the fact that Shekarau won the election with a very narrow margin. Obasabjo said: “I want to thank former Governor Shekarau for what happened to him in Kano. What he did not know, which he may want toknow today, is that he won that election with a very narrow margin, and if I had yielded to pressure, that narrow margin would have been changed. He didn’t know that somebody wanted me to talk to the electoral body, but I refused to do so.” In a swift reaction, Shekarau accused Obasanjo of presenting completely different picture of what happened in 2003 ‘in a bid to score cheap credit.’ The presidential candidate in 2011 election on the platform of All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), who spoke through his former Director of Press Sule Ya’u Sule, claimed that it was the former BOT chairman of PDP who was forcing the state’s returning officer to announce PDP candidate as the winner. Shekarau alleged that reliable sources told him that Obasanjo was personally on the neck of the INEC official, trying to rig the election. Obasanjo identified indiscipline, lack of service delivery and non-adherence to manifestos as the bane of party politics in the country, noting that “no human institution will endure for long without discipline. Earlier at the event, Shekarau preached against do-or-die affair andknocked Obasanjo for once saying he (Shekarau) was in a wrong party. “Chief Obasanjo once said I belong to the wrong party, and I think he probably didn’t want to say it here and that was why today he said I belong to the other side,” he said.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/13/i-almost-rigged-election-2003-obasanjo-tells-governor-shekarau/ |
A 26-year-old man, who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover from a multi-storey building over a disagreement over sex was arraigned in Lagos on Friday. The accused, Arthur Obiora, is facing a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted molestation and attempt to causebodily harm at a Tinubu Magistrates’Court. The prosecutor, ASP A. C. Orji, told thecourt that Obiora met Nkiruka Akabuogu on Facebook (a social media network) and invited her to aclub house in Apapa where they had drinks. The prosecutor said the pair later moved to Obiora’s house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos. Orji said Obiora, who claimed to be an unemployed graduate of Igbinedion University Okada and the Centennial College, Ontario, Canada, shut all the doors in the apartment and demanded to Be Intimate with Akabuogu. “This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried To Molest her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer. The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high/rise building,” Orji said. The prosecutor said that the incident happened at about 3a.m. on Oct. 31. “The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises who then reported it to the police. “The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,’’ Orji said. “This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until Oct. 30,” he said. Orji said that the offences contravened Sections 56 (A), 260 and404 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011. The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in likesum. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 21-year-old Nkiruka sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and is undergoing treatment at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, following the incident. Nkiruka, a Linguistics student of the University of Lagos, had told NAN on her hospital bed that she went clubbing with the young man she met on Facebook a week earlier, andended up in his family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos. She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating. Nkiruka said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress and tried To Molest her. According to Nkiruka, the man thereafter pushed her down from thethird floor of the building because of her refusal to Be Intimate with him. But the mother of the young man, who was at home on the night of theincident, told NAN that she was not aware of what happened. She claimed she slept around 10 p.m.,while the disagreement between thepair started much later. The magistrate adjourned the case toNov. 30.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/09/facebook-date-pushed-unilag-student-third-floor-arraigned/ |

Everyone present at the Oshodi Magistrates’ court on Thursday watched with mouth agape when a 58 year old woman,Fausat Ajibola, a resident of No 37, Obasola Ajijola St., Ijesha-tedo, Lagos, was brought before the magistrate and slammed with a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery. Fausat was said to have obtained a fake school certificate for her daughter and was arrested after her daughter went to correct an error she noticed at the WAEC office. The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde said “she obtained the fake certificate in 2008 on behalf of her daughter, who needed the original certificate urgently as one of the requirements to further her education abroad. “The accused went to her daughter’s school to collect the certificate but it was not ready, so she had to go for the fake certificate at ‘Oluwole’ in Lagos Island and sent it to her daughter.” Olatunde explained that the accused was apprehended when her daughter on Oct. 11, went to NECO office at No 20, Coker Road, Ilupeju, Lagos, seeking to correct some mistakes on the said certificate emphasising that the act clearly showed that the daughter was unaware that her certificate was fake. He told the court that the forgery was discovered by a NECO staff which led to the cross-examination of the daughter and the accused was then apprehended. Fausat Ajibola pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges levelled against her and was finally granted bail in the sum of N150,000. The Magistrate adjourned the case tillNov 22,2012.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/09/58-year-old-woman-arrested-forging-daughters-neco-certificate/ |

Im a 27 years old male, I would like to discuss something personal here in the light of Islam, the reason why Im not using my real name here is because Im embarrassed of my sins and have asked Allah for forgiveness but I continue to experience problems almost daily. Still trying to find a cure to this problem. The problem: I have been self-servicing for a long time now its been 10 years I think, Im a muslim but not religious which Im sad about and was neither awarethat its not good and all my friends used to say its okay. Now since after I turned 26 I did alot of research on internet and found Islam's perspective on self-service and Im disturbed that I have been on fault for such a long time. I seriously wish I could go back in time and stop this bad habbit from taking place, I have cried so much and asked Allah for help that I kind of feel that Im in a state of depression now. Im not a bad man but its just that I wasnt aware of this sin. At present my state is such that I have stopped self-service but what happens at night is that I feel the urge to self-service, I have tried to stop the urge but its really strong and Im having a difficult time stopping it. Sometimes Im dreamingat night and Im self-servicing I just dont have any control and in the morning I feel guilty and I feel weakness as well. THe urge subsides when I go to the bathroom and get rid of faeces (bowel movement) but that doesnt happen everyday as some days Im constipated. Kindly help me out with this and let me know how to cure this state that Im in. Now I also have a fear inside me thatif I marry a woman I want be able tokeep her sexually happy and that my marriage might end and thats the reason why Im not marrying any girl right now, I first want to recover from this habit and weakness. What should I do Im in deep trouble and I cant even discuss this with any one openly please share anything that can help me.? |
