Politics / Obasanjo To 80-year-old Ekwueme: “you Are Getting Nearer To The Departure Lounge by Lilprocess(m): 11:18pm On Nov 13, 2012
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is once again in the news, barely three days after he predicted revolution in the country.
However, the former military Head ofStates this time was not a prophet but a psychologist.
Speaking yesterday on the occasion of the former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme’s 80th birthday, the retired General told Ekwueme that he was close to the “departure lounge”, advising him to devote the rest of his life to his family and the nation.
Ekwueme was born on October 21, 1932, while Obasanjo was born on March 5, 1937.
He said, “The only octogenarian on the high table, and I don’t think thereis even another person on the other side of the table, even in the hall (that is up to 80 years).
“My brother and friend, and I think the Senate President regards you as atrue democrat; I will join the others in congratulating you on your recent crossing of the bar.
“But let me just warn you that crossing the bar or becoming 80 sometimes means you are getting nearer the departure lounge.
“I will get into the car park with you,but I won’t go into the departure lounge with you.”
His comments drew laughter from the audience. Ekwueme then whispered words to Obasanjo who in turns replied him in pidgin, “As wecome, na so we go go,” which literally means that those who come to the world first would be the first to die.
Dignitaries who attended the event include Senate President, David Mark;his Deputy Ike Ekweremadu; Deputy Speaker of House of
Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha among many others.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/13/obasanjo-80-year-old-ekwueme-you-getting-nearer-departure-lounge/
Politics / I Almost Rigged Your Election In 2003 – Obasanjo Tells Governor Shekarau by Lilprocess(m): 11:06pm On Nov 13, 2012
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjoon Monday confessed that he was almost forced to rig the election that brought Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano into power in 2003.
The erstwhile president while speaking in Abuja yesterday where he chaired a session of a round-table on Party Politics organized by the National Institute for Legislative Studies, said he refused to succumb the pressure he faced from oppositions despite the fact that Shekarau won the election with a very narrow margin.
Obasabjo said: “I want to thank former Governor Shekarau for what happened to him in Kano. What he did not know, which he may want toknow today, is that he won that election with a very narrow margin, and if I had yielded to pressure, that narrow margin would have been changed. He didn’t know that somebody wanted me to talk to the electoral body, but I refused to do so.”
In a swift reaction, Shekarau accused Obasanjo of presenting completely different picture of what happened in 2003 ‘in a bid to score cheap credit.’
The presidential candidate in 2011 election on the platform of All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), who spoke through his former Director of Press Sule Ya’u Sule, claimed that it was the former BOT chairman of PDP who was forcing the state’s returning officer to announce PDP candidate as the winner.
Shekarau alleged that reliable sources told him that Obasanjo was personally on the neck of the INEC official, trying to rig the election.
Obasanjo identified indiscipline, lack of service delivery and non-adherence to manifestos as the bane of party politics in the country, noting that “no human institution will endure for long without discipline.
Earlier at the event, Shekarau preached against do-or-die affair andknocked Obasanjo for once saying he (Shekarau) was in a wrong party.
“Chief Obasanjo once said I belong to the wrong party, and I think he probably didn’t want to say it here and that was why today he said I belong to the other side,” he said.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/13/i-almost-rigged-election-2003-obasanjo-tells-governor-shekarau/
Crime / Facebook Date Who Pushed UNILAG Student From Third Floor Arraigned by Lilprocess(m): 2:47am On Nov 10, 2012
A 26-year-old man, who allegedly pushed down his Facebook lover from a multi-storey building over a disagreement over sex was arraigned in Lagos on Friday.
The accused, Arthur Obiora, is facing a three-count charge of threat to life, attempted rape and attempt to causebodily harm at a Tinubu Magistrates’Court.
The prosecutor, ASP A. C. Orji, told thecourt that Obiora met Nkiruka Akabuogu on Facebook (a social media network) and invited her to aclub house in Apapa where they had drinks.
The prosecutor said the pair later moved to Obiora’s house at Block 10, Flat 317, 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Orji said Obiora, who claimed to be an unemployed graduate of Igbinedion University Okada and the Centennial College, Ontario, Canada, shut all the doors in the apartment and demanded to have sex with Akabuogu.
“This was after he had smoked some wraps of Indian hemp. He tried to rape her and threatened to kill her with a bottle of beer.
The girl, fearing for her life, then jumped down from the third floor of the high/rise building,” Orji said.
The prosecutor said that the incident happened at about 3a.m. on Oct. 31.
“The girl was discovered lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood about 30 minutes later by the security men in the premises who then reported it to the police.
“The police took the girl to a hospital and after she regained consciousness, obtained her statement,’’ Orji said.
“This case highlights one of the major problems of the social media. The young lady went to visit someone she doesn’t know. She met the defendant on Facebook and they had been chatting until Oct. 30,” he said.
Orji said that the offences contravened Sections 56 (A), 260 and404 (1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011.
The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in likesum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 21-year-old Nkiruka sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis, and is undergoing treatment at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, following the incident.
Nkiruka, a Linguistics student of the University of Lagos, had told NAN on her hospital bed that she went clubbing with the young man she met on Facebook a week earlier, andended up in his family home at 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She noted that the young man had earlier talked about sex on phone prior to the outing but she told him she was menstruating.
Nkiruka said that on getting to the house, the man tore her dress and tried to rape her.
According to Nkiruka, the man thereafter pushed her down from thethird floor of the building because of her refusal to have sex with him.
But the mother of the young man, who was at home on the night of theincident, told NAN that she was not aware of what happened.
She claimed she slept around 10 p.m.,while the disagreement between thepair started much later.
The magistrate adjourned the case toNov. 30.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/09/facebook-date-pushed-unilag-student-third-floor-arraigned/

Crime / 58-year-old Woman Arrested Forforging Daughter’s NECO Certificate by Lilprocess(m): 2:32am On Nov 10, 2012
Everyone present at the Oshodi Magistrates’ court on Thursday watched with mouth agape when a 58 year old woman,Fausat Ajibola, a resident of No 37, Obasola Ajijola St., Ijesha-tedo, Lagos, was brought before the magistrate and slammed with a two-count charge of
conspiracy and forgery.
Fausat was said to have obtained a fake school certificate for her daughter and was arrested after her daughter went to correct an error she noticed at the WAEC office.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde said “she obtained the fake certificate in 2008 on behalf of her daughter, who needed the original certificate urgently as one of the requirements to further her education abroad.
“The accused went to her daughter’s school to collect the certificate but it was not ready, so she had to go for the fake certificate at ‘Oluwole’ in Lagos Island and sent it to her daughter.”
Olatunde explained that the accused was apprehended when her daughter on Oct. 11, went to NECO office at No 20, Coker Road, Ilupeju, Lagos, seeking to correct some mistakes on the said certificate emphasising that the act clearly showed that the daughter was unaware that her certificate was fake.
He told the court that the forgery was discovered by a NECO staff which led to the cross-examination of the daughter and the accused was then apprehended.
Fausat Ajibola pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges levelled against her and was finally granted bail in the sum of N150,000.
The Magistrate adjourned the case tillNov 22,2012.http://dailypost.com.ng/2012/11/09/58-year-old-woman-arrested-forging-daughters-neco-certificate/

tbaba1234:

Assalam Aleikum,

The problem you face is common with many young muslims when they get exposed to filth in our society. They get addicted and can't find a way out. This is my practical advice for you.

1. Do not be alone: Whenever you are alone, you are lunch for shaitan... Start playing sport or going to the mosques. Anything that will keep you from being alone.

2. Change habits: Identify the things that lead you to such steps, If it is movies or TV, stop watching movies and change your TV schedule... Start looking at the habits that you must change to change youself.

3. Fast: Fast as much as you can. It is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim from Abdullah Ibn Massoud ( may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes one's sexual power".

4. Give charity: Try to increase the charity you give because it is a purifier.

5. Repent and make dua: Repent to Allah sincerely and make plenty of dua.... Allah is the only one from who help comes

6. Do not give up hope: You might fall many times but keep repenting and striving to become better

7. Get better company: Get people that will strengthen you and help you rid yourself of the addiction

Getting married is not an automatic cure, work on ridding yourself from your addiction to filth and you will be happier in your marriage.

tanx for this great advice, may god reward you abundantly

There is nothing like "recover from this habit".you're a man and sexual urge is natural.so get a wife immediately.I could have adviced you to try mut'a marriage first to see how it goes before you make it permanent marriage.mu'ta marriage is a mercy from many sins for those who can't abstain and yet cannot permanently settle down, especially youth.

There is no need too to be sad.Allah (swt) is merciful and will not throw you into punishment for what you didn't know.just pray, seek forgiveness and change your ways.if you're sincere God will forgive you.don't feel depressed is my advice to you;instead use your time productively to do what will make you happy positively.

Foreign Affairs / Britain Would Lose Nuclear Deterrence If Scotland Wins Independence by Lilprocess(m): 7:48am On Oct 31, 2012
Britain would be left without a nuclear deterrence for at least two decades if Scotland votes for independence in the 2014 referendum, local media reported.
Scottish independence would be interpreted as such that the UK no longer have the capability to house Trident missiles, and it will force the remainder of the UK to abandon nukes for at least two decades, according to report by MPs published in the British media.
In the new report, the Commons Scottish Affairs Committee warned that Edinburgh’s desire to remove Trident submarines from its shores could result in forced nuclear disarmament for the rest of the UK.
“Trident can be deactivated within a matter of days, and the warheads removed within 24 months. In the process, the UK would lose the ability to operate its nuclear deterrent, and effectively be forced into unilateral disarmament for an indeterminate period,” Committee chairman Ian Davidson said.
The committee stipulated that if Scotland removes the nuclear weapons, the construction of the necessary facilities in other parts of the UK could take 20 years.
“A separate Scotland would be presented with a choice over Trident. It could honor the long-standing commitment of the SNP that there should be no nuclear weapons in Scotland and insist on the ‘speediest safe transition’ of Trident from Scotland,” Davidson says.
Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond said earlier that if London was not willing to build a new Trident base within the UK, it had only a few options left: either scrap the entire weapons system or move the missiles to a French or American base.
"They could decide on what would bea much better policy, which would beto decommission the weapons system,” Salmond told the BBC.

Politics / Hike In Transport Fare Give Lagos Resident Headaches by Lilprocess(m): 9:09am On Sep 20, 2012
Lagos residents have decried the recent increase in transport fare occasioned by fuel scarcity.
Urging the federal government to immediately fix the crisis, some residents of the busy metropolis on Wednesday, accused commercial motorists of taking advantage of the situation.
Investigations show that transport fare has had an increase of between 20 to 70 percent across the state.
For instance, commercial motorists have increased the fare from N80 to N100 from Berger to Agege; N40 to N70 from Idi-Araba to Yaba; N250 to N300 from Ikorodu to Yaba; and N20 to N30 from Yaba to Ojuelegba.
Tayo Durojaiye, who described the situation as "terrible", said that the increment was getting unbearable.
"I'm a salary worker and increases here and there have a big impact on salary because it remains the same, while things continue to increase," he said.
Sheriff Adedeji, said he had devised a way to keep his transport expenses low, by taking the public mass transit,Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the LAGBUS.
"These ones have not increased their fare, so I queue up to take them on routes they ply anytime I can," he said.
"Not our fault"
However, commercial motorists have blamed the situation on the scarcity, which they claimed has reduced their profit, in spite of jerk-up in transport fare.
A bus driver plying Idi-Araba to Yaba, who did not want his name published, said getting fuel had been tough for motorists.
He said that in spite of the hours they waste on queues at the fuel stations, motorists also "have to shout continuously before they finally answer us.”
Another bus driver plying Yaba to Ojuelegba, said he had been spendingmore than five hours in filling stationsto get fuel.
"We can’t use keg to buy because it’s shortage. We used to work for the whole day before but now, because ofthe scarcity and the time wasted, we only go five times," he said.
Petrol palaver
Queues of vehicles have recently resurfaced in many filling stations across Lagos, particularly those belonging to major and independent marketers.
Before now, the scarcity of fuel had hit some other major cities like Abuja,Ibadan and Port-Harcourt.
Investigations revealed that some of the few stations selling fuel were selling at N110, with motorists expected to part with N200 bribe before getting the fuel, in some cases.
Also a 10 litre gallon of petrol on the black market goes for around N2, 500.
No end in sight
However, Isiaka Yahaya, Auditor General of the Sahara Unit of Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), disclosed that the ongoing fuel scarcity in Lagos might linger for some time.
He said that marketers' inability to import the product led to the current scarcity.
Yahaya said that the marketers could not import petrol because of government’s failure to settle subsidyclaims of some marketers.
"Out of the more than 10 depots in Apapa, only one is loading trucks and the loading capacity is going down ondaily basis," he said
Politics / FG Partners Akwa Ibom On Ibaka Deep Sea Port by Lilprocess(m): 5:04am On Sep 20, 2012
The Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, said on Tuesday that the federal government was partnering the AkwaIbom State Government and private investors to develop the Ibaka Deep Sea Port to accommodate high volume of cargoes.
The minister stated this at the inauguration of the Development andSteering Committee of the port on Tuesday in Abuja.
Umar said the port would be developed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) to accommodate cargoes generated through maritimetrade; adding that the port's location, which is an integral part of Ibom Industrial City and an important milestone in the development of Akwa Ibom, offered investors unparalleled opportunities for maritime and oil and gas related productions.
According to him, the site will also accommodate dry docking for super tanker vessels and offer low cost access to off shore oil/gas fields.
“Mr President attaches great importance to this which is indeed part of the transformation agenda,” he said. “We are committed to the of the project by the year 2015.”
Umar said President Goodluck Jonathan convened a maritime sector retreat on July 3 to articulate concrete action plans to harness the potential of the maritime sector for sustainable national economic development.
“We are taking an important step in the actualisation of one of the key outcomes of that presidential initiative,” he said. “It is not in doubt that the nation’s existing six ports areover-stretched. With an overall handling capacity of 60 million tonnesper annum, the ports presently cater for over 100 million tonnes per annum. It is, therefore, evident that the existing ports cannot cope with the current demand of the sector.”
He commended Governor Godswill Akpabio for providing more than 5,000 hectares of land for the port, with further commitment to provide basic infrastructure; and urged members of the committee to apply their experience and expertise to the and diligent implementation of the project.
Responding, the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Umana Umana, who is also a memberof the committee, thanked the president for approving the project, promising that the state would ensure completion of the project.

Crime / I Only Raped Four Of Them"man Who Is Accused Of Raping 8 Underage Girls In Lagos by Lilprocess(m): 3:34pm On Sep 19, 2012
The police in Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a man who allegedly defiled eight children. He is now being detained, awaiting arraignment in court.
The suspect, Mr. Temitope Alo was arrested on Saturday at Koloba area of Ayobo after the children allegedly confessed that he had raped them.
The eight victims, whose ages range from eight to 15 years were brought to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA yesterday by the Vice Chairman, Ipaja-Ayobo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Alhaja Falilat Ajijola to enable the state government to take over the case.
The victim said he works for a newspaper company (name withheld) in Lagos and allegedly luredthe children to his apartment where he defiled them and threatened to killthem if they reported the matter.
Tests conducted on the eight children at the Ayobo-Ipaja Primary Health Centre, PHC, showed that the children had been defiled.
A top official of the WAPA Ministry told P.M.NEWS that the ministry had been handling rape cases but they had never recorded a case where a man serially raped eight children.
The news of the rape caused a stir at the WAPA ministry as the staff rained curses on the alleged rapist.
According to the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Vice Chairman, Ajijola, last week a case of rape was reported to the Neighbourhood Watch office at the council but when enquiries were made, the traditional ruler of Koloba was said to have denied that such a thing happened in his area.
She said a few days later, the former council chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja, Bisi Yusuf reported that the incident actually happened and that further investigation traced the rape case to the culprit, who was promptly arrested.
Ajijola added that the traditional ruler, Chief Babayanju, later opened up and admitted that the story was true, while eight children came forward to report that they were allegedly raped by Alo.
The vice chairman said the children were taken to the PHC in the area where tests were conducted on them and it was confirmed that the children had been defiled.
Two children of a community leader in the area were among the victims.
Chairman, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Alhaji Shakiru Adisa Yusuf said he was shocked when he heard the story, adding that such a person is worse than an animal.
“I was shocked because I am also a parent. Why must he go after innocent children? Such people should not live in this community,” he said, adding that the council wouldpursue the case to ensure that justice was done.
“We will collect the tests conducted on the children and hand them over to the state government. We will pursue the case to a logical conclusion. This man has brought disgrace to this community,” he said.
Acting Director, Child Development, WAPA Ministry, Mrs Mosunmola Dada said the issue was disgusting, adding that such a man must be a paedophile and vowed that the government would ensure that he was prosecuted.
“We have evidences against him. The Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA has a medical report on this case. We will monitor and follow up this case,” she said.
The suspect, in his statement at the Ayobo Police Station, was said to have admitted that he raped some children, but that he only raped four and not eight.
P.M.NEWS could not get to him as he was in custody of the police, while theDivisional Police Officer, DPO of the station was not around for comments.
One of the victims, an eight years old girl (name withheld) told P.M.NEWS that the suspect told them to help him arrange newspapers in his apartment, adding that, “after that, he told us to go into the next room.
“He asked us to remove our panties and I asked him what he wanted to do to us. He laid me on the bed and defiled me four times. He covered ourmouths with white handkerchief and threatened to kill us if we report,” shesaid.
Another victim, a 12 years old girl (name withheld) alleged that the suspect “licked my private part. He called me and my friend in. He asked me to bring N100 fufu for him, which I brought. While I was waiting for the money with my friend, he asked my friend whether she could keep a secret.
“He asked me to pull off my panties but I did not answer and he forced me and licked my private part while he slept with my friend and defiled her too. He gave us N50. I told my friend that I will tell my mummy, but he threatened to kill us if we told anybody.”

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday called on Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola to cooperate with the Federal Government in order to make the ‘Mega City’ better considering its importance to the nation’s economy.
Jonathan said this in Lagos yesterday while reacting to Fashola’s request onthe conferment of status on the state during a book presentation tagged ‘The Jurisprudence of the Living Oracles authored by civil rights activist, Tunji Braithwaite.
Referencing the Central Bank record on the state, the president said Lagos ‘pedals’ about 52 percent of bank deposits in Nigeria’s economy and as such, it is a state that cannot be ignored in any way.
He said, “Let me acknowledge the request of Governor Lagos; even in the car, when we were discussing about some areas we need to work together. Lagos is very important to us. There is no president in this country that will play with Lagos. Thatis why we need maximum cooperation between Lagos and any federal authority.

Politics / Tinubu Calls For The Abolition Of The Senate by Lilprocess(m): 5:55am On Sep 19, 2012
National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday called for the scrapping of the Senate, saying that it is costly to maintain and that it only replicates functions of the House of Representatives.

Tinubu spoke at the 2012 annual conference and awards ceremony of Leadership Newspapers Group where he also called for laws to allow Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appoint state electoral commissioners (RECs) for the sake of fairness and credibility of the electoral process.
He said “we have kept complaining about the cost of governance and the recurrent expenditure…but we have never examined the structural problems of even the constitution that we are operating.

“Why do we need two houses of National Assembly when House of Representatives represent smaller constituencies enough in the same number of population? Why not get rid of the Senate? To equip better and effective legislative activities, let us start examining that.”
On the call for INEC autonomy “when you say somebody is a chairman and chief executive officer of a corporation, you give him all the authority to act onbehalf of the people.

“We gave INEC power and authority to act on our behalf, to be an institution that will be transparent and independent and they are being funded directly from the source; from the allocation, first line charge, expenditure from our commonwealth,Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Why would we not allow the buck to stop on the desk of the INEC Chairman so that if he messes up, we have somebody to blame. Why would an INEC chairman not be able to appoint those in the branches in the states, RECis the representative of INEC in the state; why would they be appointed bythe president who is equally partisan, a member of political party who said they would rule Nigeria for 60 years. How would they not?

“If they are the ones appointing RECs, card carrying members of PDP, how would we have a reliable electoral system? Whether you have executive position or not, power is not served ala carte, it is not like a menu in Sheraton, you have to struggle for it. Let’s first of all straighten and strengthen the institution. We are ready as opposition to work together with any other party to wrestle power from this inept government.”
