Politics / Revealed:real Reasons Chad Joined In Fighting Boko Haram by lucabrasi(m): 2:40pm On Feb 25, 2015
The momentum of the war against terror changed drastically when Chad amongst others like Niger, Cameroon joined Nigeria in contending against the rampaging terrorists. However not many people know the real reasons why Chad finally consented to joining the fight, new information highlights some of these reasons which borders upon the Chadian economy and how the Boko Haram insurgency has had a profoundly debilitating effect on it.

Since Boko Haram morphed into a malignant insurgency outfit larger than life and uncontrollable, they have managed to firmly control one of Chad’s main trade routes which runs from Chad through to the Nigerian seaport ....to read complete article pls click on link http://hibe-online.com/some-of-the-reasons-chad-finally-committed-soldiers-to-fighting-boko-haram/

Culture / Faworaja Chronicles by lucabrasi(m): 11:55pm On Dec 28, 2014
This article is about a Diasporean's experience at the Muritala International Airport being mistaken for a deportee due to the way he is dressed.really funny stuffs lol

A couple of years ago precisely summer of 2006,I made a decision to go spend summer holidays in Nigeria. I was really excited after almost three years hiatus during the time which I spent most of my holidays within the Uk.
Symptomatic of diasporeans travelling back home after a long time, I was jumpy with a heady mix of joy elation shuffled together with a healthy dose of excitement, I was going to Lagos country club for ayamase sauce and local rice, I would reunite with the Vice Chancellor of University of Suya Faculty of meatology on Allen avenue .I could not wait to savour my favourite ewa agayin with freshly baked Agege bread, hard crust on the outside moist on the inside. I could already perceive the tantalising smell of that riposte from my flat in Salford all the way in ikeja Lagos.
Now that was the nice part of the story as it all goes downhill afterwards.

…….As far as the race to Agodi Government house is concerned, powerful Political alliances are being formed even as we speak, negotiations are going on and Political influence are being traded all towards an eventual outcome. There are several aspirants, but the most formidable Politically amongst them, front runners in the race who stand the best chance are Governor Ajimobi who has won the Primaries for a re-election, Former GovernorRasheed Ladoja who has also clinched the ticket for Accord party, Senator Teslim Folarin again the PDP Gubernatorial candidate and Alao Akala also a former Governor and now the Gubernatorial candidate on the Labour Party platform.

Only a complete foreigner who has never been to or heard of Lagos state will claim not to know who Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is,his reputation garnered not so much as a result of his antecedents as a Pro-Democracy activist, but as a Political godfather whose cloud of influence has firmly enveloped the whole of South West. This whole section could be dedicated to doing an outline of those Asiwaju has installed and we will still lack the space to finish the list hence we will only restrict ourselves to his immediate family, starting with the Beautiful and delectable Senator Oluremi Tinubu his wife. With virtually no antecedents as a serious and active Politician and no discernible antecedent apart from being the wife of Asiwaju, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu was hurriedly adopted as the replacement for Senator Olorunimbe Mamora. The testament to the overawing influence of "ifa Eko"(Lagos Oracle) is that Senator Mamora was not a first time Senator, and had performed creditably well but had to give way when the boss wife signified interest in his seat.

Asiwaju's late mother Alhaja Habibat Mogaji was the Iyaloja in General for the whole of Lagos state for several decades before she passed on,in the tussle for her replacement while the older market women wanted one of them to suceed her as the Iyaloja, Asiwaju placed his foot down and insisted on his first daughter… http://hibe-online.com/silver-spoons-contesting-elections-in-lagos/

Literature / Boys Like Shiny by lucabrasi(m): 10:39pm On Dec 05, 2014
Boys like shiny… Yesterday I was invited to a garage sale to buy pre-loved clothing and household items either from ladies who want to either clear out their stuffed wardrobes or from housewives whose husbands shower them with clothes but sting on actual cash.

When you hear “Garage Sale”, what comes to mind is a pleasant afternoon in someone's backyard, sipping cold Cocacola while sorting through old junk to buy at giveaway rates.

Not so, apparently.

First off, the so-called garage sale was held at a fancy venue somewhere in Victoria Island. This should have set off alarms but my shopping instincts must have taken over my mind. At the venue, no cheap drinks or sandwiches were on display, rather I saw fancy pastry and sparkling water ($5 a bottle) at the confectionery stand which was complete with glass cake stands and a white-capped chef.

The hall was filled with ladies flitting from stand to stand like beautiful superficial butterflies and, of course, yours truly joined the flock. My first stop was petite lady's who had her used shoes and purses on display. I spotted a pair of burgundy Ferragamo pumps, requested to try them on and immediately a lackey brought forth a plush rug for the purpose. They fitted me like a glove and I was pleased as punch. I asked the price, ready to drop my Naira notes in worship of these gorgeous heels.

“It's $600”

A double take.

600 dollars? This is supposed to be a garage sale. Slowly I became aware of other price quotes around me.

“Just $250”

“Take that for $100”

“It fits! That's $320, right?”

Buyers and sellers genteelly bargaining in oil barrel currency while I stood rooted to the spot on my island of poverty.

On closer study, I came to realize one unifying factor in the room – everyone, every last one of them was shiny.

Literally.

Every lady had some bling on her, whether it was $300 pearls or $500 diamante rings. Not for getting the fact that they were all brilliantly yellow with glossy skin and perfectly made-up faces. Most of their clothes had sequins or shimmering stuff which dazzled the onlooker who, unfortunately assumed (wrongly) that a pair of jeans, t-shirt and sneakers were appropriate garb for a garage sale. Snatches of personal conversation reached my eager ears.

“I told Kola that I want to go to Morocco this summer, but he insists on Dubai…”

“I was telling my husband the other day that if he doesn't know what to get me, he should pick a Prada…”

At the end of my highly embarrassing afternoon, I came to the realization that Boys Like Shiny.

No matter how macho a man is, some innate sense in him is attracted to all things shiny. In fact, the more ubermenshe he is, the more shiny his girl is. Forget all the talk of inner beauty and great personality being primary attractions to the men folk. It's all about the look, first impressions, before the man gets down to investigating the finer qualities of the lady. It follows simple logic: we look, then we approach, then we investigate, then we decide whether to move on or stay put. I don't urge you to become the scarecrow Coco with a botoxed face and siliconed breasts; nor do I wish you to be as ultra-ditzy as a Barbie, but the fact remains, dear lonely reader, that the world does judge you based on first impressions and it wouldn't hurt to clean up your act, even a little bit.

No one likes to be left behind, especially in the quest to find a man who gives $5,000 as lipstick money, an adoring husband who quarrels with me over the next holiday spot. I want to proudly join the ranks of the uber-glam who ditch proletariat garage sales for glitzy Hollywood Boulevard soirees.

Slap on the make-up, glitter and gloss. Flutter my hands and squeal in delight. First steps to my #100 DaysOfGlam

Politics / PDP Guber Primaries : Who Emerges by lucabrasi(m): 10:31pm On Dec 05, 2014
The APC primaries in Lagos have come and gone and as predicted in my amateur postulations 1 of the 2 main Aspirants emerged victorious, all they have to do now is to get ready for the grand finale where they will be confronted with the PDP Aspirant barring any unforeseen or predictable development in the party.

Now beaming the flashlight on Lagos PDP and their convoluted internal strife, contentious in fighting with the notable battle for superiority between self-styled leader bode George and one of the main Gubernatorial Aspirants Obanikoro.

Before I continue let me slightly digress, in response to direct messages from my last prediction as regards the APC primaries, permit me to stridently offer some disclaimers, first I will only be surmising based on Political permutations in the South West and I will only be dwelling upon the main Aspirants due to length of the article.

The situation in PDP is a puzzle I daresay a conundrum, in the sense that the main aspirant in the person of Obanikoro seems to be having more of an opposition to his emergence from his own Party leader Olabode George, as opposed to his main Opponent Jimi Agbaje. The genesis of their strife is mired in ambiguity however, one point Political watchers are all agreed upon is that there is little chance of them kiss and make up anytime soon. This been said Obanikoro is without doubt, the most experienced and rugged amongst the aspirants by a long mile. It is not without reason that he was deemed a close confidante and lieutenant of Tinubu during the days in same party. In addition just like Tinubu, he has been able to cultivate fierce and enduring grassroots loyalty and appeal over the years amongst Lagosians, having contested before he is experienced in watching out for pitfalls and traps an inexperienced aspirant might overlook.

More recently even though he stood as a lone figure, not part of the APC yet somehow outside the Political sphere of the Bode George and Ogunlewe caucus, his stint in Ghana as an ambassador, and his more recent appointment as a Minister helped him immensely in shoring up support from the highest echelons of the Presidency. If anyone was ready and rearing to contest it is Obanikoro judging by his antecedents. However there are downsides to his aspirations, these include moral ambiguity trailing him regarding complicity in the burning of his office while serving as a Local Govt Chairman which has refused to go away, to be fair to him he has been absolved by a committee of any involvement however, this is Politics hence his opponents are content with the perception of guilt.Within his Party like I inferred earlier, Bode George has never supported his aspiration including now presently supporting Jimi Agbaje, how they hope to work together to unseat the APC if Obanikoro clinches the ticket will be a mystery. An almost spent but still relevant PDP chieftain Senator Ogunlewe who is in the Bode George caucus, will naturally support Jimi Agbaje, and finally if one goes by the performance of Obanikoro’s candidates in the recently concluded state house of representatives primaries, then it’s safe to conclude he has already lost to Jimi Agbaje his main opponent.

The second opponent Jimi Agbaje has a lot going for him, chief of which is the groundswell of support from the likes of Bode George and Ogunlewe Political network. In addition he is seen as polished, articulate and broadly forthright. Also unlike Obanikoro, he is not saddled with major moral baggage, these indices came into play during the just concluded Lagos State House of Representatives primaries with his caucus emerging with the most number of winning candidates.

The negatives persistently dogging him are firstly his chequered Political history and antecedents of defections, he used to be a close confidante of Tinubu in the other Party, hence trusting him will be an issue with many already promoting the perception that he is an APC/Tinubu mole. Moreover compared to Obanikoro, he is a Political neophyte hence does not possess the grassroots network and support, even with the backing of Bode George and Ogunlewe and their network group caucus. Obanikoro by virtue of his last assignment has a very good relationship with the Presidency, which is key as Political leverage and can only be a negative for Jimi Agbaje. Lastly but as relevant as other points, it will be difficult for his camp to match Obanikoro’s financial capability.

In view of the foregoing I reckon it will boil down to rugged and old fashioned Politics and Politricks, whoever makes the most effort to knock on doors, engages from ward to ward doing the hard graft, will emerge victorious. Considering all the issues above I think Obanikoro might likely win the primaries as he appears to be better prepared and experienced, this is not set in stone just an educated guess based on analysis.

This leaves the other aspirants like Tokunbo Kamson,Deji Doherty. The good thing is that they are malleable to being appeased, mainly to support whoever emerges if they lose the primaries as they most likely will. Hence the PDP will not be confronted with this challenge which the APC are presently grappling with at the moment.

On a last note if Obanikoro wins the primaries or Agbaje, the key to unseating APC will largely depend on the ability of both sides to work together and put up a united front. If they fail to do this then just like it caused their defeat before, they will lose again without any doubt.
