Veteran journalist and talk show host, Funmi Iyanda yesterday brought ‘Walking with Shadows’, a novel by Jude Dibia, to the big screen, with the movie enjoying a 2-day showing at the British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival.

Speaking on the premiere, Iyanda said, “It is an honour to premiere this movie at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. We are definitely thrilled by the opportunity to share this thought-provoking story with the international community and hope they are inspired by it as much as we are”.

The film spotlights the life of lead character, Ebele Njoko, whose search for acceptance led him to create an alternate personality – one more pleasing and acceptable to society. However, as his secrets come to light, he is faced with the difficult choice to either keeping his family or accept a life of possible loneliness and rejection.

Iyanda explained that the movie is a timely appraisal of pressing societal issues, as it promotes the importance of love and self-acceptance in a cultural and religiously-charged environment.

Directed by Adife O’Kelly, ‘Walking with Shadows’ - which is set to premiere in Nigerian cinemas soon - features a sterling cast of actors including Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Wale Ojo, Ozzy Agu, Zainab Balogun, and Funsho Adeolu.

Notable personalities who attended the BFI London Film Festival movie premiere include Nana Otedola, Folake Abdulrazaq, Christopher Schlaefer, and others.

About Walking with Shadows:

In Lagos, Nigeria, Ebele Njoko has been running all his life. A search for acceptance and love from his family, has led him to recreate himself as Adrian Njoko, respected father, husband, and brother. Suddenly, Adrian’s past and secrets have caught up with him and his world soon begins to crumble as he frantically tries to control the growing ripple effect of a revelation.

Walking with Shadows is adapted from Jude Dibia’s 2005 book of the same title, which was awarded Sweden’s Natur och Kultur Prize.

Politics / 2023: APC, PDP Should Zone Presidential Ticket To South-east - Group by meethumb: 11:36am On Oct 10, 2019
Press Release by Coalition Of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL)

We demand that the highest office in the country, which is office of the president be zoned to the South East geo-political zone by APC and PDP after the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The refusal of any big political party to zone the presidency to the South East in 2023 simply means swimming against the tide of the core vinculum of our democracy in Nigeria.

Those who are clamouring that the North should take the presidency after 8 years of President Buhari are not patriotic, they place their personal gain and aggrandisement above the survival , progress and success of the country.

The zoning arrangement was borne out of doctrine of necessity designed as democracy bond with the sole objective of creating a sense of belonging , harmony , happiness, peace and unity for our dear country Nigeria.

Zoning of the presidency has its moral weight. Zoning of the office of the president to the South East in 2023 is very important to preserve the corporate entity of Nigeria and also calm down political tension.

Elder statesmen and Nigerian Patriots knew that the best thing to do is order to keep the peace and unity of this country what to create the zoning arrangement by proclaiming that the highest office , which is office of the president , should navigate between the South and the North . It started with the south West in 1999, in 2007 Alhaji Musa Yar'adua's mantle. After the unfortunate exit of President Yar'adua , President Goodluck Jonathan from South South took the mantle and handed over to President Muhammadu Buhari from the North whose tenure will end in 2023.

Now the rightful zone that deserves the seat is South East geo- political zone after the tenure of president Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. The zone not occupied the elevated office and 2023 is the ample time to right the wrong.

A Nigerian President of Igbo Extraction will take Nigeria to greater heights because the Igbo man will bring his entrepreneur spirit to bear and he sees every where he finds himself as his constituency. He is not tribalistic. He believes in ideals of a United Nigeria.

Zoning when it was introduced in 1999 did the magic of strengthening the bonds of amity and peaceful political transitions , why should it be thrown away now that it is the turn of the South East zone.

The 20 years of Uninterrupted democracy in this country Nigeria is as a result of zoning arrangement . Despite our different languages , religion and tribes , we are able to remain one simply because of the zoning of the office of the president. Different geo-political zones feels secured , recognized , respected and an integral part of the country. It gave self esteem to different geo-political zones in the country.

Those who think zoning is not important or no more needed are deceiving themselves . We cannot jettison a political arrangement that is working because of the personal interest of very few individuals.

We therefore call on other geo-political zone to support the aspiration of brothers in the South East in order to move the country forward.

Politics / To Stop Agitation For Biafra Republic Allow Igbo Presidency In 2023 – Rep Member by meethumb: 8:31am On Oct 07, 2019
"To quench the fire of agitation for Biafra Republic in Igboland, allow South-East to produce the next Nigerian President come 2023", says member representing Mbaise/Ngor-Okpala Federal Constituency of Imo State, Rep. Bede Eke

Eke stated this at the weekend, adding that conceding the 2023 Presidency to the South-East Zone zone will give way for justice, enquiry and fair play.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja over the weekend, the lawmaker was of the view that the arrangement would also put an end to the clamouring for the Republic of Biafra under whatever guise by the people of the region.

According to him, “on the continued agitations for South-East presidency in 2023, yes, we want it. I am of the opinion that we should be given a chance. Talk about the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Aguyi Itonsi; we have not been given a chance since the independence.

“We talk about three geopolitical zones in the country; Hausa, Yoruba have had their chances but what about the Igbo? Even if only the marginalisation we are crying, why don’t you give it to us?

“If we have the slot of being the president of Nigeria, that will go a long way. If you can give us the presidency of Nigeria, it will address this problem of people clamouring for Biafra.

“We are all equal before God, no region or zone is superior to one another, we should be given a sense of belonging in the scheme of things, we have qualified materials to occupy that position.”

This came just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker called on the National Assembly to impose age limits on presidential candidates in the future presidential elections in the country as a follow up to the new
“Not Too Young Act” recently signed into law by President Muhammad Buhari.

Leader, Yerima Blasts Kanu Rep Eke who disclosed that he would introduce a Bill in this Ninth National Assembly for an Act to block people in their 70s and above, from running for the office of the president in future elections to allow for younger people to take an active part in the governance of the country.

He assured Nigerians that when the National Assembly eventually proposes amendments to the Nigerian constitution, he would be leading the debate for a ‘Too Old to Run Bill’. The lawmaker explained that the legislation, which would be an amendment to the ‘Not Too Young to Run’ law, will bar persons from 70 – 80 years from contesting the presidency and help elevate younger people to the presidency of the country.

According to him, “since Nigerians celebrated the ‘Not Too Young to Run’ bill, the country should also introduce ‘Too Old to Run’, bill, when you look at events now; look at other countries, when you look at France; let’s see if we can get young vibrant men to lead this country.

“It is a personal decision and that is my opinion – get a man so advanced; you cannot tell me what a man of somebody in his 50s, whether early 50s or late 50s, can do, a man in his 80s can do the same thing. It is not possible! This is nature. “That is an area I should be looking at. If you get to an age, you should not be bothering to rule.

“If it sails through, that is it! If we now say once you are 80, you should not run for president; when you are 70 or 80. It is not targeted at anybody, but we want fresh blood. We want to inject fresh blood,” he stressed.

Speaking on the frantic efforts of the Imo State Governor, Hon Emeka Ihedioha to retrieve government properties from the officials of the immediate past administration of Senator Rochas Okorocha, the lawmaker stated that the governor was on the right track going by the sterling revelations and discoveries coming out from the panel.

According to him, “it is not true that the governor is out to witch-hunt anybody, if you know that you have government properties in your possession through illegal ways, you must be ready to face the panel and not be weeping up sentiments, Imo State people are proud of what the governor is doing, very soon people will continue to be seeing physically the good work he is doing for the state.”

He also canvassed for more devolution of powers from the centre to the states, saying, “for me, people talk about the devolution of powers, maybe that will help us succeed in making sure that we reduce the power at the centre.”

He also stressed the need to introduce state police, to compliment the federal police and ensure better security of lives and property.

Politics / Police Extra-judicial Activities In Aba: Ikpeazu Sets Up Panel Inquiry by meethumb: 9:30am On Oct 03, 2019
The Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has set up a panel inquiry to look into the extra-judicial activities by some security agents in Aba.

This is following an illegal activities of the men of the Nigerian Police Officers from Ndiegoro Police Division who were retaliating over the death of their colleague who was killed by some suspected cultists on Friday.

There were however, two angles to the story. One had it that the fracas that led to the death of the police officer popularly known as Alhaji on Friday came after a misunderstanding between police and some drug cartel at Ndiegoro over bribe(title) they usually pay to do their illicit business.

Another angle had it that the police officers who usually extort money from innocent residents at Degema by Okojombo met a wrong group who gave them a serious fight before one of the officers and a civilian who is their driver was killed.

Our reporter who visited the area gathered that several buildings in four streets; Okojombo, Anaba, Degema and Umuosi in Ndiegoro axis were set ablaze by police officers. Another visit to the scenes, was that of anxiety and suspicion as residents whose properties and means of livelihoods were destroyed crowded the streets in tears and pains.

Reacting to this, Gov Ikpeazu directed the immediate setting up of a panel of inquiry to look into the remote and immediate causes of the reported incidents as well as determine those involved with a view to bringing them to justice.

A statement by the Abia State commissioner for information said "The panel is also to establish and evaluate properties lost as a result of the alleged extra-judicial action.

Members of the panel are as follows:

1. Chief (Dr) Ukpai Agwu Ukpai (Chairman)
2. Mr Sopuruchi Ernest Beke (SOP) (Member)
3. HRH Eze Sunday Emejiaka (Member)
4. Dr NCNC Okoli (Member)
5. Rev. (Dr) Ogboso Ejindu (Secretary)

The statement further noted that the panel has two weeks to turn in its report to the Governor and this is without prejudice to the ongoing police investigations on the matter which will primarily determine criminal culpability

"Law abiding members of the public are urged to go about their normal businesses without fear of further molestation as the government is fully on top of the situation", the statement reads.

The Chairman, Media and Public Affairs Committee (Official Spokesman), Federal House of Representatives Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has revealed that the House has extended an invitation to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over cashless policy on cash deposit.

Hon. Kalu stated this during an interview on Osasu show. On the topic of "Cashless Policy", Kalu said, although, the policy has been in existence since 2012 and the charges were on withdrawal, but the implementation and timing is what the house is kicking against.

ABACITYBLOG had reported that the CBN had introduced a cashless policy on every cash deposit performed in the country.

But the spokesman said the policy is good and commendable, looking at the enormous gain which has been aimed at bringing transparency in the financial industry.

He advised CBN to channel their focus on the infrastructural deficit that is already existing in handling cash transaction rather than introducing a new policy at the wrong time when the economy is not in a good shape.

Politics / After EU Invitation, Nnamdi Kanu Set To Visit UN, Washington DC For Biafra by meethumb: 11:45am On Sep 13, 2019
A few days after Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's visit to the European parliament, in Brussels, where he was invited to brief the parliamentarians on the agitation of IPOB and what the new Biafra will mean for Africa, the IPOB has announced another visitation by their leader.

This time, he would be visiting the United Nations, UN, and Washington DC, for the restoration of Biafra.

Media and Publicity Secretary of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Emma Powerful, disclosed this in a statement, yesterday.

Speaking on Kanu's invitation by the EU, Powerful said IPOB’s invitation to the parliament signified that the pro-Biafra group was not only respected but regarded as a force for good in Africa.

He noted that events in Brussels had confirmed that Biafra restoration project was divinely ordained, “hence all efforts by the Nigerian Government to intimidate and bully the organisers failed spectacularly.”

He assured that the seed of Biafra self-determination had been planted in the heart of the EU.

“The more the Nigerian state fight IPOB, the stronger and more resolute we become. All their efforts failed woefully because (Chukwu Okike Abiama) God Almighty the creator of heaven and earth is on the side of the Biafran people.“

Powerful said Mazi Kanu assured every Biafran after the meeting that his next diplomatic mission would be to the United Nations, saying that the diplomatic moves was designed to take Biafra freedom to another level, way beyond the imagination of the Nigerian government, before the end of this year.

He said Kanu promised Biafrans that he would be in Washington DC and United Nations to which the crowd erupted in spontaneous applause.

Politics / ‘if We Conduct Election In Abia North Twenty Times, I Will Win’ – Orji Kalu Decl by meethumb: 10:52am On Sep 13, 2019
-Party Leadership Mobilizes Support.

Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that he would win repetitively if elections were conducted 20 times in the entire Abia North Senatorial Zone.

This is following the September 9th judgement of the Abia State Election Petition Tribunal which ordered for supplementary elections in some units of Abia North Senatorial Zone.

Kalu stated this on Thursday when the APC party Chieftains in Abia state led by its Chairman Hon. Donatus Nwankpa and the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Ogah, paid him a solidarity courtesy visit in Abuja.

The party leadership stated that they would challenge the ruling at the appeal court however, they were ready to face the supplementary election to retain the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu.

Nwankpa, who spoke on behalf of the delegation also seized the occasion to announce the rejection of the Abia State nominee on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

He said, "We are here today in solidarity with the Chief Whip of the Senate. We are ready to be part of the election even if elections were to be held today.

"We are ready to appeal the judgement.

"There were flaws in the judgment Senator Orji Uzor Kalu' case as declared by the tribunal. He has not been sacked. The court has not asked that his certificate of return should be withdrawn.

"He remains the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate and all things being equal, nothing would change it.

"What happened was a temporary set back and a distraction to the APC in Abia."

He said the people of Abia - North were ready at all times to vote the former Governor of the state, nothing that if election was to be held twenty times, Orji Uzor Kalu would be returned.

“We are ready to appeal that judgement. You know how President Muhammadu Buhari’s case was delivered on yesterday (Wednesday) and that further exposed the flaws in Kalu’s case.

The APC chairman, who addressed journalists after the courtesy visit, said the party in the state rejected the NDDC nominee because he was not known to the party. "

He said, The APC in Abia State rejected the NDDC nominee. He is not known to the party and he cannot represent the interest of our people well.

"We have asked the Abia representatives in the Senate to reject him whenever he appear for screening."

In the entourage, was the Minister of Mines and Solid Development, Dr. Uche Chukwu Okay who insisted that, Orji Uzor Kalu’s seat was not declared vacant, saying that, “he remains our leader in the party, he remains our leader in the state.

In his remark, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu explained that he would not lose sleep over the development, emphasising that he would win election anytime.

“In Abia North, we are not losing sleep. In Nigeria, if we conduct election in Abia North twenty times, I will win”, the lawmaker insisted.

“The sanctity of Court anywhere in the world is that if one is displeased with judgement, he can approach the upper Court and that is what I will do.

“I was not removed, I wasn’t sacked as reported in the media. The Court didn’t asked someone else to be sworn-in, in my place. We have our votes in tact and since the law allows me to appeal, I will appeal the judgement.”

The lawmaker said Courts don’t award remedies not sought for, hence, he remained the lawmaker while pursuing the case in the Appeal Court.

Politics / BIAFRA: Read Full Speech Of Nnamdi Kanu As He Addresses The European Parliament by meethumb: 10:26pm On Sep 10, 2019
Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra ,IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Tuesday visited the European Parliament in Brussels where he made strong case for the restoration of Biafra Republic.

Kanu who was at Brussels on the invitation of EU Parliament was accompanied by top ranking IPOB members.

Below is a full text of his address to the EU Parliament which was made available to news men by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful:

BIAFRA BRIEFING FOR THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT...

Nigeria in Crisis

There is a crisis in Nigeria. The Nigerian State has never been at peace with itself and recent events amplify this pending emergency.

And, as has been the case since independence from Britain in 1960, Biafrans are the easy target of the lack of a credible Nigerian state. Nigeria governs without the consent of all within its borders. Nigeria claims to be ruled by law, but in effect there is a de facto lawlessness in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s epidemic of violence flowing from the North is well documented. In 2014 the Global Terrorism Index judged Fulani militants to be the fourth most deadly terror group in the world, behind Boko Haram, Isis and the Taliban.

Lawlessness is always one step ahead of the Government. In response, the Government, when it is convenient for it to do so, attempts to give a veneer of legality to the lawlessness. Recent proposed land reforms across Nigeria do just that. The Fulani herders from the North are increasingly encroaching on the settled farmers of the South/South East. This includes Biafra. As Amnesty International has reported, there were more than 2,000 deaths in 2018 linked to this land crisis. Instead of seeking to address the violence, the Government has sought to condone it and legitimise the land grab.

There is an underlying problem in the North which has to do with climate change and encroaching desertification due to overgrazing and deforestation. This has drawn Fulani herdsmen further south and led to violence against Biafran farmers seeking to defend their land and crops. The fertile farming lands of Biafra are very attractive to the Fulani.

To address this land crisis, the Government, the President of which is Fulani, sought to establish the RUGA scheme (an acronym for Rural Grazing Area – or is it, as some suggest, a Fulani word?) whereby Fulani herders could officially move into areas and absorb land as part of a Government co-ordinated programme across Nigeria.

Is this an attempt to develop settled land practices for the Fulani, or, as is the experience of Biafrans, is the drive behind RUGA an attempt to Fulanise (or Islamise) Biafraland and force out Biafrans? Biafrans who stand up to the Fulani are killed. Because of the uproar across Nigeria, the RUGA settlement programme has been suspended, but the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) remains in place. This programme advocates ranching. How different is it from RUGA? For Biafrans the effect is the same. They are forced from their land and will be killed if they do not make way for the Fulani.

Nigeria: The Problem, Not the Solution
Nigeria has always been a fiction. The state we now know as Nigeria was created for British administrative and colonial convenience in 1914. An audacious move by the British, but no surprises in Empire. Britain’s Nigeria drew together disparate people into one entity.

To over simplify, to the North are the Muslims. Two ethnic groups dominate the North, the Hausa and Fulani. The Fulani are now in the ascendency. One hundred years ago these were semi-nomadic, pastoral people. Many Fulani continue to live as herders. The South is mainly Christian and in the South East there is also a vibrant Jewish tradition. The rural communities in the South/South East tend to be settled farmers. The principal ethnic group in the South is the Yoruba.

The South East is the region that makes up Biafraland or Biafra. There is a coherence to Biafra. Its western border is the River Niger and it incorporates most of the Niger delta. The eastern border is Cameroon. To the west, across the Niger, are the Yoruba. In the north are the Muslim people. Despite colonisation and being forcibly absorbed into Nigeria, Biafrans are defined by common values and a shared sense of identity. Biafrans don’t all speak the same language. Many Biafrans are Igbo speakers. Other Biafrans speak Urhobo-Isoko, Ijaw-Epie-Ogbia, Ogoni, Efik, Annang, Eket-, Oron-Ibibio, Ogoja, Ejagham, Igala, Idoma, Ibani and Igbanke among others.

To put Biafra in its Nigerian geo-political context, Biafraland is made up of the following Provinces: Rivers Province, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Bayelsa and Delta. Fulani herdsman have shown great interest in those provinces that form the central belt of Biafra, such as Enugu.

The Biafran War (1967-1970)
With independence, the persecution of Biafrans started. One colonial master was replaced by another, although, and without endorsing British rule, Biafrans fared better under the British than they have under Nigerian dominance.

First, the Biafrans who had been transplanted to the North by the British were massacred. Those that survived fled back to Biafra. The oppression and intimidation did not cease. In 1967, Biafra was left with no choice but to proclaim independence. Nigeria declared war.

Biafra didn’t stand a chance. The conflict turned the Cold War on its head. The Soviet Union and Britain actively supported Nigeria. “Biafra, Britain’s Shame” was how many described the UK position. French compassion was gratefully received but it could do little to protect the fledgling state. America’s neutrality in effect backed Nigeria. China was silent. The UN was hopeless. Biafra was doomed. Starved into submission, after three years the Biafrans surrendered. At least 2 million Biafrans perished.

The atrocities, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Biafra during the Biafran War remain unaccounted for. Was it an attempt at genocide? Biafrans were considered an existential threat to the state. The killings were indiscriminate. All Biafrans were targeted.

Biafra Subjugated
After the war, Biafrans slowly rebuilt their world. But, as far as Nigeria was concerned, they were not and never had been Biafrans. They were Nigerians from the South East or Igbo-speaking Nigerians. The Biafran War was airbrushed out of the Nigerian consciousness. Biafrans could only whisper about their loss. Joining the global Biafran diaspora was one option for those who could get out. Others remained in Biafraland, their Biafran identity amongst themselves, undiminished.

Nigeria continues to prioritise crushing assertions of Biafran identity. Even peacefully commemorating the War risks arrest, detention, prohibited ill-treatment or being shot.

In recent years the Nigerian state authorities have conducted three orchestrated campaigns against Biafrans. The three Operation Python Dance campaigns have been battles against Biafrans. The first campaign was in 2016, the second in 2017 and the third is ongoing. They are designed to undermine calls for Biafran self-determination.

Operation Python Dance campaigns intimidate. Serious and systemic human rights violations are carried out by state forces with impunity.

"The act of killing and looting the shops of Nigerians is worrisome and it must stop immediately. The destruction of Nigerian business and killing of citizens of Nigerians in South Africa is against everything our collective struggle for freedom was about.

"It is very sad and unfortunate that the south African deputy police minister , Mr Bongi Mkongi openly in a press conference said that the south African government is in support of the killing of Nigerians and other Africans in their country.

"According to him that other Africans mostly Nigerians have 80% of business in South Africa. So that is why they have to kill Nigerians in other to take over their businesses and properties.

"MTN is a South African owned number 1 telecommunication network provider in Nigeria. ShopRite and DSTV are south African owned firms that are leading in their area of business and no Nigerian have ever thought of destroying their business activities or harming their owners . We have been supporting and patronizing them .

"Since south Africans have shoot the first shoot , we give MTN, DSTV, SHOPRITE and other South African firms doing business in Nigeria 7 days ultimatum to leave Nigeria.

"It is very sad that South Africa has suddenly forgotten that Great Nigerians like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe , Chief Mbazulike Amaechi and others Nigerian nationalist play a prominent role for the actualization of the independent of South Africa. Nigerians died and sacrificed greatly fighting for the independent of brothers and sisters in South Africa. Why should they pay Nigerians pay in such a cruel and wicked manner .

"We call on Nigerians and other Africans living in South Africa not to be afraid, they should be strong , fight and defend themselves against any attack from South Africans . Africa belongs to all of us.

"We call for arrest and prosecution of the Nigerian police men that killed a Nigerian protesters in Lagos protesting the killing of fellow Nigerians in South Africa. They is no where in the world were protesters are attacked with guns . Even the south Africans police did not attack their own citizens killing Nigerians with guns. It is callous and wicked to kill protesters . We call for immediate probe into the extra-judiciary killing of the protesters.

"We therefore call on the African Union (AU) and the international community to immediately respond to this wicked act against humanity . The culprits and their sponsors especially Bongi Mkongi , South African deputy police Minister and the South African government that is complicit in this xenophobic acts, should be brought to book to face prosecution for crime committed against humanity.

“South East Governors had been absolved and vindicated of any involvement in the last operation Python Dance(s) by the security agents, this put to an end the suspicion brewing in some quarters alleged by IPOB, which had threatened the peaceful atmosphere of the South East, now that South East Governors are cleared by Security Agents, IPOB should openly or secretly apologize to the South East Governors and change tactics in their modus operandi for peaceful co existence.

“We equally Urge the newly inaugurated South East Security Committee led Maj. Politics / Why Buhari Is The Best Person To Lead Nigeria - Abubakar Tsav by meethumb: 8:25am On Aug 31, 2019
A former Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, and prominent Middle Belt leader, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is so incorruptible and he is the best person to lead Nigeria in this time.

Tsav, was reacting to a statement credited to Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, who recently declared that Nigeria’s problems have overwhelmed President Buhari.

"Buhari is not only doing his best, but also knows what Nigerian problems are", the former Police boss told TheSun.

"I disagree with Soyinka. Buhari is not only doing his best, but also knows what Nigerian problems are. He is incorruptible. Buhari is the best person to lead Nigeria now.

"He is incorruptible, and his war against corruption has been exposing looters. As good as Buhari is, the only problem he has is that he is too slow, and some of his aides are corrupt. Buhari should step up the campaign against corruption. Looters caught should be put on trial and prosecuted", he urged.

Speaking on declaration by the Middle Belt Forum that the region is no longer part of the North, Tsav described The leaders of the forum as noisemakers that should be ignored.

He said; "Those leaders are confusionists who are pursuing personal agenda. What they are saying is their own personal opinion but not the opinions of the majority of our people in the Middle Belt. Isuwa Dogo, and Bitrus Pogu who are making the declaration have no followers. They are on their own. Since they made that declaration, how many people of Middle Belt origin have come out to identify with them? Middle Belt still remains an integral part of the North, whether Dogo Isuwa or Pogu like it or not.

"These two men are Christians and they have personal agenda they are pursuing but their campaign will fail. Part of the reasons why Middle Belt can’t severe ties with the North has constitutional factor. Without constitutional amendment, Middle Belt can’t break away from the North.

"If Isuwa and Pogu have genuine intention, why can’t they seek constitutional means of achieving their goal by approaching the elected representatives of the Middle Belt in the National Assembly to discuss the issue with them? To me, these men are just attention seekers who should be ignored. Their declarations carry no weight, and they don’t have the support of the majority of our people.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has assured Nigerians that making an Igbo man President come 2023 will put an end to the activities of the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in Nigeria.

IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been agitating for an actualisation of Biafran Republic. However, OYC in a statement obtained by ABACITYBLOG stated that with realisation of Igbo Presidency in 2023, Ndigbo will be happier in Nigeria.

The group also noted that the agitation of the OPC and NADECO plus Abiola issue was compensated to the Yoruba's by giving them a Presidential slot in the person of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The full statement reads thus:

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide observed there's fears in some quarters especially from Prominent Northern groups and leaders over the recent antecedents of ipob towards destroying the Trust and endangering the prospect of a Nigerian President of Igbo stock in 2023, with realisation of Igbo Presidency in 2023, igbos will be happier in Nigeria, and activities of ipob will fizzle out like a vapour.

"IPOB activities will bring the realisation of Nigeria President of Igbo stock, with insinuation that Ipob activities is working against Igbo Presidential materials and potentials from South East, Nigerians might opt for full compensation for the marginalized South East by voting en mass for an Igbo to emerge as President in 2023 as they compensated the Yorubas in 1999, When OPC and NADECO plus Abiola issue brought Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as President, We understood the circumstances that led to Dr Good luck Jonathan to be Vice President, later President in order to quell the activities of Niger Delta militants, and how Biko Haram insecurity led to the emergency of President Muhammadu Buhari, what's good for the Goose is also good for the Gander.

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide assures Nigerians especially Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Elders Forum, and Coalition of Northern groups, that We are determined to seal our aged longed relationship as Old allies and partners since 1960 as we Commence our Consultation meetings soon, That Igbo Presidency 2023 with a Northerner as Vice President will end up the activities of IPOB, Igbos will Present one of the Current South East Governors as a Worthy Successor of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023, We thereby Passed Vote of Confidence on the Current leadership of South East Governors led by Gov umahi, and assured them that they remained the political leaders of Igbos in this present time, We will do anything to protect them from any Harassment or blackmail from any desperate group.

Politics / Abia @28: APC Tackles Ikpeazu Over Achievement, Says Abia Is In A Terrible Condi by meethumb: 10:02am On Aug 28, 2019
...says Abia govt is living in fool's paradise

Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reacted to the account of stewardship given on Tuesday by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu during his address to the people of the state in commemoration of her 28 years anniversary.

APC wished Abians happy 28 years anniversary, but stressed that Ikpeazu’s read out achievement roster was full of empty palatable promises without any reality on ground.

Publicity Secretary of Abia APC, Comrade Benedict Godson, who said he listened to the governor’s address via the app of one of the local radio stations, added that it is unfortunate that Ikpeazu is still reiterating same promises he has being making for over four years with just little editing of sentences.

Earlier before APC’s reaction, Governor Ikpeazu on a live broadcast said, “I wish to reiterate that our cardinal objective in our second term is the completion of all the projects that we began in our first term while laying solid foundations for sustainable job creation for our teeming youths in Abia State.

“We set up a committee to rehabilitate non-functional street lights and install new ones in Aba and Umuahia and I am glad that many of our major streets in both our major cities are brilliantly lit at night at the moment.

“I am glad with the feedback I am getting on the impact of the streetlights on extended business hours, security and general aesthetics in our cities and we are determined to ensure that the initiative is sustained and expanded.”

Speaking on road construction, Ikpeazu said, “Mindful of the difficulty in constructing roads in the rainy season, we have carried out palliative remedial works on many of the bad roads in Umuahia and Aba preparatory to contractors handling them fully returning to site as soon as the rains abate.

“In the meantime, Arab contractors, handling the Aba Road in Umuahia have continued working and they are about completing the Phase 1 of the project. Drainage work is also ongoing on the Phase 2 which will see the project extended to the Port-Harcourt Expressway at Ubakala.

“In a similar vein, China Zonghao, the contractor handling the Osisioma Interchange is also on site and the project is advancing. We have also made appreciable progress on the Ururuka Road, Osusu Road, Udeagbala Road, Port-Harcourt Road, the Abiriba-Nkporo Road, the Umuokpara Ring Road and the Umuene-Omoba Road.

“We are currently concentrating on building new drains and the desilting of blocked ones to allow for free flow of storm water to the natural collection points and as soon as the rains abate, contractors, who have already been mobilized, will resume work on most of our over 95 ongoing road projects across the state.”

He added that is not unaware of the complaints that have been made in certain quarters that his projects are slow and delayed.

He however said his response to that is that his administration is more interested in the quality of projects we undertake than the quantity and the speed of completion.

He stressed that his government has no interest in speedily completing projects for accolades and applause only for the projects to fail shortly after.

The Governor challenged everyone to evaluate all the roads that he has done which he said have remained undented after several rainy seasons over the past 4 years.

On workers salary, Ikpeazu said that all Ministries and Departments in Abia State have received their July 2019 Salaries and are on track to receive their August 2019 Salaries by the end of this month.

He stressed that those being owed are mostly staff of Agencies who receive monthly subventions from Government and who were expected to manage their affairs including payment of staff salaries.

He however said that As the father to all, he has set up a committee headed by the Head of Service of Abia State, Sir Onyii Wamah to work out modalities for the liquidation of these arrears so that they can be up to date like their MDAs counterparts.

However, in a reaction through a phone chat, the APC spokesman told our correspondent that contrary to the governor’s address, Abia is in a terrible condition and deserves better than what Ikpeazu is currently doing.

“All we hear is promises, but if we are to tell ourselves the truth, I think the state government is living in fool’s paradise. He has failed woefully. How can he be talking about streetlights when we don’t have a single good road in the state? What will streetlights be doing on terribly roads?

“I listened to his broadcast as a true Abian and I found out that he’s still making promises even in his second tenure, not knowing that he said same thing four years ago.

“My question to Gov. Ikpeazu is this: if you say you’re lighting up Aba and Umuahia to extend business activities, on which of the roads are you putting up these streetlights? Is it the waterlogged roads we see everyday?

“Talking about extending night businesses, with the roads I’m seeing, where will the transactions and bargaining between buyers and sellers and finally movement of goods be taking place? Is it in the air, land or the artificial sea routes created badly waterlogged roads?

“Or are there two different Aba and Umuahia in Abia State? Are we not talking about same cities we usually check government’s impact every month which remain negative so far? As far as August 2019 is concerned, I want to say it clearly that all the major roads in Aba especially are still in terrible conditions.

“I have the records here with me. Port Harcourt road, Ngwa road, Obohia road, Eziukwu road, Omuma road, Old Express, Ohanku road, Ohazu road and more other roads are currently dead traps and I challenge them.to say otherwise.

“Aba-Owerri road has being under construction since 2015 and they are still doing the drainage. The much talked about Faulks road is gradually fading because, the story of the 5.6km underground drainage he claimed Setraco built at Ife-Obara is not working.

“I listened through the radio some few weeks ago that rain sacked residents within the same Ife-Obara axis he is claiming to have solved the problem of flood there,” Godson said.

Speaking further, he said, “Have you forgotten the much talked about ‘Aba Leather and Garment Industrial City/Cluster, Umukalika,’ in Obingwa LGA? Is it existing today? Today he’s talking about Enyimba Economic City that no block has been laid. The man can talk actually. It’s his gift.

“Have you suddenly forgotten the, $1.5 billion Huajian Chinese Shoe Factory that will provide 30,000 direct and indirect jobs which he kept boasting of in his first tenure? They’ll never tell you anything about it. But I’m sure if you ask them about it they’ve already prepared their lying roster of defense.

“What happened to the six- lane Port Harcourt road with concrete base which he told the whole world that it will be delivered within18 months since May, 2017 when he flagged off the road?

“What happened to the much talked about 5.6KM Underground Ife-Obara Basin Drainage which he claimed he laid pipes from that axis to the Aba River overnight. And where are the evidence of these hyped four grade A contractors he kept talking about?

“This is the same man who vowed to complete all his ongoing projects before the 2019 general elections. He’s still making promises of completing the same Projects three months after been sworn in. Come on, what’s that?

“While other states are talking about implementing the National Minimum Wage, Abia is talking about setting up committees to tackle backlog of salaries. Are we really away of what’s happening elsewhere?

“He has being using same tactics on Abia people for the past four years. During the rain he’ll say the rain stopped road construction. When the rain abate, he’ll claim there’s no money as the state has not received one fund or the other.

“Until we learn to call a spade a spade and not a farm implement or a big spoon in Abia, nothing will work out for us. Okezie Ikpeazu is simply good at talking and I give him kudos for that.

“We pray God Almighty touches his heart to realize that Abia people are suffering and in serious need of help which he can easily render by doing only the needful.”

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has berated the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for placing N1 million bounty on governors from the South-East.

OYC in its statement signed by the President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, wondered "how come the (IPOB) have millions of Nigeria currency instead of Biafra pounds? This is even as the group condemned the recent attack and harassment on the former Deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremberg, Germany.

OYC also stated that they have uncovered the real plot and the alleged sponsors of the IPOB to attack and humiliate Igbo leaders who may succeed Buhari in 2023.

Read the full statement below:

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide angrily call for a truce, and immediate cease fire ranging on between the South East Governors and Ipob, over the threat and Counter threats being harvested from both quarters,We can no longer afford to slaughter our collective image and integrity over actions being sponsored by politicians outside Igbo land to Smack the images of Igbo Presidential hopeful ahead of 2023.

"We have uncovered the real plot behind the recent harassment and threats of placing one million Naira bounty on anyone who gives useful information about overseas travel itinerary of South East Governors as an evidence that they are being sponsored by politicians outside Igbo land to discredit our leaders with millions of Naira given to them to hack down South East Governors, How come they have millions of Nigeria currency instead of Biafra pounds? We will do everything possible to shield South East Governors from external aggression being sponsored by politicians to hack down South East Presidential hopeful.

"Based on the intelligence report that there's possibility of attacking South East Governors in Nigeria and abroad starting from next month, and we have uncovered the selfish reasons for this unholy alliance between them, We alert all South East Governors to double their security settings and don't fall into any traps of being provoked and distracted from tackling the insecurity challenges emanating from the activities of suspected Fulani Herdsmen, this is the finest hour for all genuine lovers of Igbo culture and values to stand up and defend their political leaders and urge Ipob to retract their steps and allow peace to thrive.

Chijioke Chukwu has described as fake and misleading reports on some social media platforms that former Governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Kalu, has cancelled a purported trip to Germany, in view of the recent attack on Senator Ike Ekweramadu by some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Describing the Chief Whip of the Senate, as a courageous and responsible leader,  Chukwu expressed appreciation to the Senator for facilitating the repairs of roads and remediation of erosion sites in various locations in Abia North Senatorial district.

He condemned the faceless people using facebook and other social media platforms to spread falsehood and malign the image of Kalu, stressing that the former governor, has performed credibly thus far in the 9th Senate.

While acknowledging the selflessness and magnimity of Kalu, Chukwu expressed appreciation to the former governor for attending August meetings in various communities in his constituency.

Speaking to a cross-section of journalists on Monday after a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ugwueke, the state legislator applauded the free trade loan to petty traders and market women by the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, noting that the humanitarian gestures of the former governor are worthy of commendation.

He said, " after the attack on Senator Ike Ekweramadu by some members of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Germany, I have been reading all sorts of negative comments on facebook and other social media platforms.

"Of particular reference is a viral message that Senator Kalu, has cancelled his trip to Germany for medical check-up because he (Kalu) is afraid of attack by IPOB.

" Kalu had no plan to travel to Germany. Hence, the news is fake and misleading.

" The former Governor, since the national assembly went on recess, had been with his constituents in Abia North Senatorial District, on a thank-you tour of the wards and  local government areas.

"He also used the opportunity to give zero interest loan to more artisans, traders, market women and co-operative societies across the five local government areas of Abia North Senatorial District.

"The former governor has over the years maintained his position that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable.

" There is no doubt that Ndigbo have been aggrieved over the years due to neglect by previous governments.

"However, the marginalization of Igbo can only by corrected through dialogue and civil engagement and this what Kalu has been advocating across the globe.

" Nigerians regardless of age, tribe and political affiliation, must respect the law otherwise face the wrath of the law.

The state lawmaker, who commended Kalu for advising the IPOB to shun violence and social vices, stressed that the former governor is known to be a man of peace, adding that the concerns of IPOB and other Igbo groups can only be addressed in an atmosphere of peace.

He said, "Kalu will always speak the truth without minding the consequences.

" He is a genuine leader, who is committed to the development of the South East and Nigeria in general".

Chukwu, added that the former governor, will in the next few days, round off his activities in his constituency, before departing Igbere for Lagos at the weekend.

Politics / Ohanaeze Faults El Rufai's Abolishment Of Zoning Formula by meethumb: 5:30pm On Aug 16, 2019
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has faulted a statement credited to the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Igbo chance of 2023 presidency.

It could be recalled that El-Rufai had during an interview said zoning should be abolished in 2023 presidency, noting that all zone should be given a level play ground to participate in the election.

This is following  much demands and deliberation that the next President of Nigeria should come from the South after President Muhammadu Buhari's 2nd tenure elapse.

Reacting to El-Rufai's statement, OYC, said El Rufai was a major beneficiary of zoning arrangement in 2015 Guber elections in Kaduna, adding that they are aware that El Rufai wants to be the running mate to a Christian Pastor and Professor of law.

The full statement reads below:

"Ohanaeze Ndigbo youth Council Worldwide wanted to ignore the recent vituperative tendencies of a lose canoon who is blinded by his ambition to become president by championing the abolishment of Zoning formula and gentleman's agreement that had existed between North and South since 1999, but because of posterity's sake, We wish to remind Kaduna state Governor,Mallam Nashir El Rufai, that Christians Prayers from Southern Kaduna will never allow him succeed in his presidential project.

"El Rufai was a major beneficiary of zoning arrangement in 2015 Guber elections in Kaduna, now wants to thwat the glaring opportunities for a Nigerian President of Igbo stock in 2023, we are aware that El Rufai wants to be the running mate to a Christian Pastor and Professor of law, who is studying the body language of the President to know how to navigate the storm at the appropriate time.

"We wish to debunk any insinuation and fears,in some quarters that the North will use Suspended Ruga settlements as a bait to negotiate with Southern Nigeria especially igbos on 2023 Igbo Presidency project in exchange for Ruga settlements as not only a huge joke but total fallacy, from assurances from credible and prominent Northern groups, what is expected of Igbos is to bring on the best Presidential material either a Sitting Governor or a former Governor from the South East that will rejig Nigeria's potentials back on track as truly as the Giant of Africa not standing on mosquitoes legs.

The 82 Division of Nigerian Army, has reacted to the death of an Okada rider, Mr. Chimaobi Nwaogu, who was allegedly killed by soldiers stationed in the Ogborhill axis of Aba for failing to give #100.00 naira bribe.

ABACITYBLOG reported that the death of Uzoukwa, caused unrest yesterday in Ogbor Hill as Motorcyclists took to the streets, protesting over the killing of one of their own.

Reacting, through a statement by Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division, Aliyu Yusuf, the army debunked the news, alleged the killing was perpetrated by unknown gunmen in military camouflage.

It also noted that it is pertinent to state that the rumours trending in the social media that the man was killed by a soldier for refusing to give a bribe of #100.00 naira is false untrue and misleading.

The full statement reads below...

The attention of 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a violent incident involving an individual identified as MR CHIMOBI NNAORGU who allegedly lost his life from a gun shot injury inflicted on him by unknown gunmen suspected to be a cultist in camouflage T.SHIRT at UMUOKERE NGWA COMMUNITY IN OBINGWA LGA OF ABIA STATE on Wednesday 7 AUGUST 2019.

This incident resulted in a breakdown of law and order as youths in the community took law into their hands by burning down houses. Troops of 144 Battalion with the assistance of other security agencies have calm down the situation.

I wish to state categorically that 82 Division troops deployed for any operation do not brutalised law abiding innocent citizens in line with Nigerian Army code of conduct for internal security operations.
