EXACTLY THE SAME REASON I WANTED TO BE BANNED FOR LIFE..... I,M REALLY TIRED OF ALL THE NUISANCE JOINGING NAIRALAND BROUGHT TO MY EMAIL ACCOUNT... I REALLY GOT VERY ANDRY WHEN MY JOINING NAIRALAND IMMEDIATLY OPENED MY EMAIL TO ALL SORT OF SPAM MAILS AND JUNKS.. I JUST WANTED TO RUN OUT OF THIS NAIRALAND QUICKLY AND THEN DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO DEACTIVATE PROFILE BUTTON IN THEIR PAGE.... I TELL YOU FEEAR OF LOSING OUT OF MEMBERS HAVE MADE THIS PLACE 100% BACKWARD IN TECHNOLOGY EVEN THOUGH IN THEIR MIND THEY THINK THEY HAVE IMPROVE...innovation is what keeps customers active, laziness and slackness is when you compel on them unpleasing rules....still looking for alternative way to deactive or terminate my nairaland profile. PLEASE IF ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME. ..i really need to get out of here. not happy at all.

There is a workaround.

Just create an alternate email address and change the registered email address.

It's really sad because it misleads people to think we are up to 980,000 people here when we might just be about 5-10,000. Garri activists generated an average of 15 profiles each and they all add up to the member stats.

Why am i saying this: I hate FRAUD and dictatorship. Even facebook allows people to leave. If your service is good enough they will come back. But HERE......................

Nigerian mentality.

Blame everyone else but the thief.

..."he's a small thief", "why can't they catch the politicians", " the thief is a genius", the bank should have done this or that.

Frankly everytime I come to this site, I leave feeling less intelligent

Always deactivate online profiles you no longer need e.g facebook, twitter, Hi5 etc.

Nairaland / General / Re: How Did Spammers Get Our E-Mail Addresses? by Moodie: 7:48pm On Aug 15, 2012
Nairaland Email was spoofed, fine! Somehow they managed to lay hold of our e-mail addresses. Possible work around include setting up another email or deleting all private posts. That is well understood.

What about those of us that do not want to change our emails but want to exit the system altogether? Is there no other way e.g deactivation? If not, can you kindly profer the reason why?

Also, I noted that I did not sign any contract when setting up my account e.g by ticking an "Agree" box. In the light of that what is my right concerning my posts, are they mine to do as i please or do they now belong to NL.

Once again, I am showing how this is connected with the topic, so it will be unfair if this is hidden as well.

Thirdly, some of these 'bad eggs' must have got to know us through certain threads we participated in, and while its fine to delete our post and leave a '.' or 'deleted', it would serve us better to have our posts totally hidden away as if it was hidden by a Mod. So why can't we have the ability to hide our posts so we no longer appear on threads we dislike.

Finally, what is the real problem with account deactivation??

I will appreciate if these concerns can be addressed here in line with the advice from Seun about these 'bad eggs' so others can learn from it.

Thank you

My post was hidden?? So its that easy to hide a post and yet you allow us rant and rave unnecessarily. Kindly let me save you the trouble, provide me the hide button and i'll gladly hide all my contributions myself. Then we'll move on to deactivation. See how you guys are beginning to piss me off, after being civil for so long.

Dear Seun,

1. Why were we not told upon signing up about the opt in but no opt out policy of Nairaland?
2. What is the challenge with having a deactivation button for user profiles?
3. Why is it impossible to totally delete ones contribution to a thread and yet Mods can do the exact same thing (hiding a post)?
4. Why do we keep being asked the reason why we want to deactivate?
5. Who has rights over the contents posted on Nairaland? Is it NL, the poster or both?
6. Is it impossible to deactivate accounts on NL? If yes, why?
7. PLEASE READ ME MY RIGHTS.

Summary: I understand the work around people suggest, and the rationale behind them. However you have to admit that people want to have control over their lives. You can't force someone not to commit suicide. People just want to know that option is there to vanish, if they are taking too much heat. I did not tick any contract while opening this account, so I should have reasonable control over my entries.

P.S
r231, just as you have the ability to hide posts, I'd like to be able to hide my own posts. Thanks.

Dear Mods,

What: Please i need to deactivate/delete (NOT MODIFY) my NL account

When: with immediate effect.

How: I want ALL my posts to be inaccessible to the public, but i do understand if there is a need to keep them in your system for up to six months. Also my handle and profile details such as my email and password should cease to exist on this forum.

Why: Serious privacy concerns

Kindly treat as very urgent.
Thanks
