MEET FATIMAH APESIN, Female Undergraduate That Cuts Keys for a Living

While many are lamenting over high rates of unemployment in the country, Fatimah Apesin has carved a niche for herself by cutting keys for a living.

__Apesin who is a 500 level student of Psychology in the University of Ịbadan uses returns from the business to see herself through school. Within minutes, she expertly fashioned out an exact copy of a key for an AFAS press correspondent.

__According to her, 'key cutting is a very lucrative business and I enjoy doing it.' While commenting on her choice of business, Miss Apesin says that she chose it because it's not a saturated venture like makeup, hairdressing, fashion designing and other typical female vocations.

This is the part where I famz.

I have actually 'cut' keys with this lady twice and apart from her dexterity at cutting keys, she has a warm personality and cheerful disposition. Such that you will want to go and cut keys with her everyday.

This is just one girl out of a multitude. I do not see the need to blow any trumpets.

Why stops MTN Foundation from working with the government and invest in the manpower and facilities to help conduct such surgeries in Nigeria.
In the time being, work with Kanu Heart Foundation or any other Heart Foundation, do a triage and save lives.

Now that will be something.

If you are referring to the passport you will take with you to the embassy, any size will do.

However, your DS-160 requires a passport with a specific format (which can be seen when filling the DS-160.

Hello House,
Reading these threads have been enlightening. I had an interview sometimes last week.
Okay, I prayed and fasted but I also did plenty research. Chose an early morning appointment (7:15am) because of work and dressed in my office garb - suit and tie. Because it was a very hot morning, I just hung the suit on my arm and went through the process. Surprisingly, I was calm.

Here's a transcript of my interview.

Me: Hello. Good morning.
Visa Officer(VO): So why do you want to visit the US?
Me: I want to visit my uncle. I also plan to visit the *****, spend some time in the Museum District, see places like the Museum for Natural Sciences, Fine and Contemporary Art, *****, then see the USS Texas. It is under renovation at the moment but hopefully when I go in March, the renovations would have been concluded. I would also like to see the Milton Outdoor Theatre because I have not had that experience before.
VO: Have you travelled before?
Me: Yes.
VO: Where?
Me: Singapore once, India twice, Ghana twice
VO: What do you do?
Me: I am a ****** with ******
VO: How long have you worked there?
Me: This is my third year.
VO: Are you married?
Me: Not yet. But I have a mom whom I am partially responsible for. I am an only child and she has been a single mom for as long as I can remember (true).
VO: Thank you. You can pick up your passport in 3 days. The information you need are written on this sheet. (Passes me a white sheet of paper)
Me: Thank you and have a good day.

I was out of the Embassy before 8am. My full day was ahead of me!!

All glory to God. Special appreciation to the active members of the thread LadyG, seyewest etc.
Most especially to all those silent readers who share their stories, keep reading and sharing.

Business / Re: Why Will Konga Now Charge Full Seperate Delivery Fees On Multiple Items? by mrmofasa(m): 11:48am On Jun 09, 2016
bongolistik:
Do you believe that Konga now knows nothing again about consolidation of multiple items before delivery as they now charge full and separate delivery fees on each of the multiple items you buy on their site?

Imagine I recently wanted to buy 3 separate items from Konga on a single purchase; one is phone battery for N3,800 the other is a pair of jean trouser for N3,500 and the third is USB data cable for N700 and when I was about to check out, I noticed that Konga has added N1,000 each on the items as delivery fee, totalling N3,000 for the delivery charges and that was how I quickly terminated the order.

It seems Konga are failing to realise that they have competitors.

We are enduring the fact that they have recently hiked delivery fees on their items and then come again to notice this recent development.

It's now hightime person began to boycott shopping from Konga if they continue this way.

They even failed to realise that at times people shop for multiple items just because of leverage on delivery fees, but they have now defeated that aim by charging full seperate fees to deliver multiple items made on single purchase.

Would you have gone ahead with the purchase if you were in my shoes?

Exactly why I stopped using Konga. Plus they have terrible service too. . .

I am more informed now.

Good quality stainless steel cooking pots and pans seem to be the best choice.

I am looking towards wooden and stainless utensils to go along with the pots. Heard the wood adds extra flavour/tinge to the food.

For pots I would say go for non stick pots cos it's easy to wash and if u check your food regularly while cooking you will have less or no burnt food unlike aluminums pot that burns food. If you are using non stick pots i will recommend wooden spoons, spatula and the rest. Every utensils u use to turn or check your food while cooking with non stick pots should be wood.

Thank you Mrs OJ. Can the wooden spatula be used in frying too?

I just moved into a new apartment and I want to set up my kitchen to be as comfortable as possible on a slightly limited budget.

Why? I enjoy cooking and see the kitchen as a place to unwind and be creative.

First, what kind of pots should I buy - Aluminum or Stainless? I would be grateful if the pros and cons of each choice is explained.

Secondly, which is better - stainless, wooden or plastic utensils i.e spatula?

Celebrities / Re: Headies2015: To Those Of U Backing Olamide Up by mrmofasa(m): 3:09pm On Jan 02, 2016
Teeboy15:
Firstly, I was so disappointed with the organization and arrangement of the show. The whole crew were confused and I felt really embarrassed, to think it's referred to as our own Grammy Awards. However, the main reason for Olamide's foolish and shameful behaviour was because of the Next Rated Award Category going out to Don Jazzy's 'boy' Reekado Banks instead of Olamide's Lil Kesh. Reasons why Olamide should be castigated and not praised:

1. REEKADO BANKS WELL DESERVED THE AWARD; The category was a tight fix cos 2015 was a great year for all the contestants. Yes Kesh had hits after hits but so did Reekado, Kiss Daniel and the rest. The problem is that Lil Kesh's fans procrastinated, Reekado Bank's fans voted. Shikena!

2. OLAMIDE'S BEHAVIOUR WAS PETTY AND IMMATURE; He's now a father and also a record boss who has artistes coming up under him. Even if he felt Kesh was cheated (which I don't think), what was expected of him (Olamide) was to cheer Kesh up and express his disappointment to the organizers satirically. Dekunle Gold was about to do so before Olamide grabbed the mic. After all Next Rated Award does not necessarily determine a successful musical career.

3. DON JAZZY WAS RIGHT WITH HIS SPEECH; Intact I jumped to hail the Don, after he spoke, even though I was watching from my room, cos he spoke a percentage of my mind. What he (Olamide) codedly meant was that Don Jazzy had used his influence to lobby the award for his artistes in the category (after all he's Don Jazzy na...) of which the award organizers have been accused of in the past. Seems the Mavin Boss saw that coming, hence the response. I'm sure u understand.

4. HE DISRESPECTED/INSULTED EVERYONE'S GRANDMOTHERS; Olamide insulted everyone from the organizers to those seated in the venue, those at home watching, to those that voted. Even slammed the microphone on the floor and poured his drink, that's super disrespectful. All because of car that Kesh himself can afford with digging deep into his pocket.

I have always been a fan of Olamide but honestly his behaviour at the show just made him lose one (means nothing to him but a lot to me) and I'd advice him to thread cautiously in the industry because the level the likes of PSquare, 2face, Dbanj, have attained in music did not just come by, they have so many industry shot callers who can frustrate young misbeahiving musicians like Olamide out of business, and Don Jazzy falls in that category.
He should be careful not to get drunk to shows anymore. Ask Kanye West

Music/Radio / Re: Your Take On Don Jazzy And Olamide's Beef On Headies Award? by mrmofasa(m): 3:47am On Jan 02, 2016
Don Jazzy needed not to have responded. Olamide was clearly a bit high judging by the red plastic cups with him and his crew's and should have been ignored.

The matter could have been settled privately but Don Jazzy's response may have turned this to an all-out beef war.

Something the music industry does not need now.

If finance is the problem, there are always scholarships. . .

ASHTAROTH:
Hello fellow Nairalanders,

I need your advice on this issue. I am about to take a very important and life altering decision in my life, but I am kind of confused as to what to do. I am very sure, that we have mature people here, and I would definitely be given best of advice. This issue cuts across my entire life, please matured advice are kindly welcomed.

I am a guy in my early 20s (would be clocking 21 by December). I have a Diploma in Engineering, and I currently work with a company in Southwest Nigeria. I graduated as the best student of my Department, and that was in early 2012. I did my internship in one of the big names in Nigeria.

Ever since 2012 that I finished the first phase of my polytechnic education, I was unable to satisfactorily secure admission into the schools and course of my choice. Nonetheless I vowed never to settle for HND. Although My Dad pushed against my own will to apply for HND and I was admitted but I refused and turned the offer down. For the University admission application, it’s either I was given the course I have no interest in or not admitted at all. I applied through direct entry, UTME and several many others. One of the many trials even journeyed me to meet the Vice Chancellor of a State University in a supposed southwestern state. The Vice Chancellor questioned me, accusing me of probably cheating in CBT because I scored the highest (story for another day).

I kept on trying but, this year I made a resolution to have a taste/peep into another field. Although I have passion for engineering, but I fell in love with Medicine after I saw two American Television series (Grey’s Anatomy and Night Shift, please don’t think of me weird). I humbled myself and did another UTME exam. I did excellently well, and my performance in Post UTME was good, though below my set standard. I was pressed to change from Medicine and Surgery to Nursing when the admission officer told me of my slim chance of being admitted for MBBS (Indigeneship stuffs). Fortunately I was admitted for Nursing.

In my quest not to put my eggs in one basket I obtained another DE form. Using the DE application I picked two schools in southwestern states. But, I didn’t stop there; I applied as an unsolicited candidate to another school in one of the Northern States. Fortunately I was admitted for my long desired course in Engineering Field in the Northern University. Though I am still awaiting the two Southwestern Universities and the Northern University resumes in 3 months; I don’t want to give these all away. I want to make the best decision base on good career advice.

I have so prayed and it seems God is giving me a blank cheque to write on. At this point, I can't afford to make the wrong decision.

The issues I have now are:

1. The school that admitted me for Nursing has opened portal for Acceptance fee payment which closes in a week. Of which the tradition is if I couldn’t pay on or before the said deadline; my admission would be invalid. Of course this calls for professional and tactical deliberation and decision. Of which I am to accept the admission now (school resumes presumably January), I would be forced to quit my full time job, thus I won't be able to safe enough for my expenses of even 2 years in college.

2. I am so in love with the Northern University, I love the environ, the distance and of course the solitary of my personality I would enjoy (considering my personality), but we all know the security issue in the north though it’s not rampant in this particular state.

3. The living expenses in Nursing admitted school is on the high side. Looking at it my entire savings would be out in less than two years. Speaking of which my Dad is of no financial support since I disobeyed and turned him down. So I have myself to think about Feeding, Tution Fee, Hostel Fee, Hand outs, Internet data and Transportation. However, my savings would see me through four years of the Northern University.

4. BNsc is a 5-year course and ELectrical Engineering (DE) is a 4-year course, considering the age factor.

5. I am torn between my fantasy and passion, but I want to make the right and best decision. It’s a pity I would be forced to make decision this early despite the unpreparedness of the rest two schools to release DE admission lists.

I am sorry for the long write up. Please advice me from experience; career-wise and future-wise.

Thank you very much.
