Alhaji Usman Abubakar versus David Mark (both Idomas)
Lawrence Onoja versus David Mark (Both Idomas)

Two deadly political conflicts that have the fingerprint of Tiv in them; a bid to cause Idoma internecine infighting that is needed to keep Tiv in power forever.

The Tiv through their numerical strength, have not abdicated their interest to continue to dominate.

The point here is that the Idoma have not had a fair deal, and are not likely to have in the nearest future within Benue State as it is known today

As long as the Tiv live, they will not, in general, support an Idoma to be the governor of Benue State. Gov G. Suswam has been nice to Idoma because his wife is an Idoma.
Akume, the Gov before Suswam practically emasculated the Idoma and set them up against one another at the flimsiest political opportunity; all in a bid to keep them divided.

Benue is one of the states that will implode should Nigeria divide. There is ABSOLUTELY no love lost between the Tiv (land grabbers and local oppressors) and the Idoma people.

Please ask the Senate president (an Idoma) to describe the TIV for you.

…For nursing an unhealed wound for too long

advertisement

A pastor in Owode-Yewa in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State has committed suicide for being diabetic and nursing a wound for several months without healing.

Pastor John Ibikunle, 39, allegedly hanged himself recently in one of the rooms in his house at Alagbon area of the Yewa town.

Daily sun gathered that before the pastor took his life, he had asked his wife to represent him at a Parent Teacher Association meeting of one of his children. Before his death, John was said to have been troubled that a wound he sustained at a sawmill in the town refused to heal after several months.

A neighbour of the late pastor, who spoke with Daily Sun on condition of anonymity described the deceased as jovial and humble. He said, “As a neighbour, I was shocked to hear that Pastor John took his life with the excuse that the wound he sustained early last year refused to heal.’’

He added that initially, he did not believe the story until he got home and the reality of the pastor’s death dawned on him.“His death is still a source of concern to me and I have never thought a man like that, who always preached the words of God to people, could take his life.” The deceased pastor was said to have taken his life by making a noose round his neck, tying it to a ceiling fan in one of his rooms.

It was further learnt that nobody knew about the dastardly act until the pastor’s wife who had represented him at the PTA meeting returned home and raised the alarm. “It was too late for anyone to stop the tragedy as his lifeless body dangled with his tongue protruding from his mouth. It was a gory sight to behold and I wonder why he had to take his life because of a wound,” a neighbour of the late pastor told Daily Sun.

A police source at the Divisional Police Headquarters at Owode confirmed the story and added that the matter had been transferred to the homicide section of the state police headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta.

JAMB releases 2011 UTME results, says 842,851 candidates score below 200 marks

ABUJA – The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has disclosed that a total of 2, 892 candidates scored 300 marks and above in its 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, conducted nationwide last week Saturday.

Besides, a total of 1,493,604 candidates who sat for the UTME examination are seeking for admission into the 500, 000 available spaces in the nation’s tertiary institutions.

Given the breakdown of candidates’ performance, today in Abuja, the Registrar of JAMB, Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde said, “while 842, 851 candidates scored below 200 marks, 495,426 candidates scored between 200-249 and 67,732 scored between 250-269 as well as 31, 444 others, who scored between 270-299 marks.”

Out of this, the JAMB according him, is currently investigating the results of 7, 504 candidates, from some centres which he said are suspicious, and so the results must undergo further screening because of the unusual performances recorded by candidates from those centre.

He stated further that a total of 15, 160, representing 1.014 % of candidates, who participated in the examination were involved in exam malpractices.

On the issue of invalid and incomplete results that characterized the conducted of the exercise last year, Prof. Ojerinde announced a remarkable reduction from 82,000 cases in 2010 to 28, 069 in this 2011 exercise.

According to him, “this figure, 28,069, although is a remarkable reduction in the previous one. It still remains high. In the years ahead, we will further bring down the figure drastically. Our target is to totally eliminate this phenomenon by drumming it to our examiners to do checks on candidates during the examinations.”

Further analysis of the application by gender showed that 55.78% applicants are males while 44.22% candidates are females. These figures showed that 660,522 candidates are females while 833,082 are males.

While a total of 200 visually impaired candidates sat for the exams, 197 prisoners from mainly Kaduna State and Ikoyi Prison in Lagos State sat for the 2011 UTME exams. Imo State has highest number of applicants in the exams as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, got the least applicant.

Prof Ojerinde asked candidates who sat for the examination to check their results on-line using JAMB scratch cards.

Ojerinde who said the results were posted on-line by 12.00 pm (today)Friday, said, the results are on the internet, as I am speaking with you. He advised that, “candidates do not need to buy any scratch card, but can utilize the scratch card earlier used during registration for the exam.

PHIPEX: This statistics has been very consistent over the years. To crown it all the surge in this JAMB figure affects the Admission cut-off points for students from these states especially in Federal institutions in the East. I was once puzzled when I discovered that my dept in UNN back then had this kind of cutoff for admission. Anambra 270, Imo 265, Enugu 250, Kogi 230, Benue 237, etc. Which means that it is even easier for someone from other regions to gain admission than a South Easterner in UNN. Its a great development and "I have a dream that a time will come when it will be easier to meet a graduate trader in Alaba and Onitsha main market than an SSCE holder"

I know a number of traders who are graduates in Alaba and Ariaria markets. They go into buying and selling for lack of corporate jobs.

This is for 2010, I think.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board on Friday released the results of 1, 228, 607 out of a total of 1, 276, 795 candidates who sat for the maiden Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination held on April 17 across the country.

Of this number, only 501,463 representing 41 per cent of the candidates scored above 200 out of the maximum 400 points.

Another set of 832,434 representing 68 per cent of this number scored above 180 marks while 330, 971 representing 27 per cent scored between 180 and 199 marks.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, who disclosed these at a press briefing in Abuja, explained that a total of 1, 375,652 candidates applied for the 2010 UTME, out of which 271 candidates sat for the examination in six foreign countries.

He said, ”Out of the 1,276,795 candidates that sat for the 2010 UTME, the results of 1,228,607 representing 96.26 per cent are today released, while results of 48, 188 (3.77 per cent) are still being screened before release or otherwise.

”Detailed analysis of application by gender shows that 769,416 candidates are male while 606,236 candidates are female. These figures show that 44.07 per cent are female while 55.93 per cent are male.”

Imo State led the six states with the highest number of candidates with a total of 111,613 representing 8.11 per cent, closely followed by Delta State with 86,955 representing 6.32 per cent.

The Federal Capital Territory led the bottom six with a total of 2,393 applications, representing 0.17 per cent of the total number. It was closely followed by Zamfara State with 3,568, representing 0.26 per cent.

As has been the tradition over the years, candidates who are seeking university admission led the pack, followed closely by those seeking admission into colleges of education.

Bayelsa State came tops on the list of states where examination malpractices were recorded. It had a total of 5,442 cases, followed by Rivers State with 3, 302 cases. Lagos State came third with 2,847 cases.

The JAMB registrar revealed that 46 examination centres across 10 states had been de-recognised as a result of their ”unacceptable behaviours during the examination.”

Rivers State led the pack with 12 centres, followed by Imo and Lagos states with seven centres each.

Ojerinde said 20,780 results, representing 1.63 per cent of the total number of those who sat for the examination, were being withheld for further verification and thorough screening before release.

He explained that it was too early to make public the name of the highest scorer in the examination because some of the results were still being screened.

He also frowned at the practice of some universities who charged candidates up to N10, 000 for making such universities their second choice. Ojerinde said this practice must stop or else sanctions would be applied.

He enjoined candidates to go online, using their application slips to log on to the JAMB website to check their results.

Registrar of the board, Prof.
Registrar of the board, Prof.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has withheld the results of 23,819 candidates who sat for the April 4, 2009 Universities Matriculation Examination for involvement in malpractices.

A total of 1,182,381 candidates applied for the examination, but only 1,145,961 actually sat for the examination with 36,417 absent.

While announcing the results of the examination on Tuesday, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said the results withheld represented 2.07 per cent of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination.

He said there was also a drop in the cases of malpractices when compared with what obtained in 2008 where 2.24 per cent was recorded.

He, however, said, “The examination committee and the Governing Council of the board will meet to take a final decision on the results, but there is no way they will be released because we have clear evidence against the candidates.”

Ojerinde noted that 548,543 candidates of the total number scored 200 marks and above, while 14, 847 scored between 190 and 199. 199 of the total number sat for the examination in countries outside Nigeria, namely: Ghana, Cameroun, South Africa, Republic of Benin and Saudi Arabia.

According to JAMB’s breakdown of applications, Imo and Anambra states had the highest number of applications with 106,375 and 78,803 respectively. Other states in order of their applications were Delta, 77,318; Edo 65,271; Ogun, 58,014 and Osun, 57,404.

The analysis showed that Akwa Ibom and Abia states which occupied the fifth and sixth positions last year were displaced by Ogun and Osun respectively.

Six states, namely, Gombe, Sokoto, Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara and Yobe in that order, recorded the lowest number of applications in 2009.

According to Ojerinde, Jigawa and the Federal Capital Territory have dropped from the list of lowest six states, while Yobe remains the lowest, just as Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara still belonged to the league.

The results also showed that the Faculty of Social Sciences still recorded the highest applications by candidates with a figure of 275,208. It had recorded the highest last year.

It was closely followed by Administration, Medicine, Engineering and Sciences, Arts/Humanities, Law, Education, Environment and Pharmacy respectively.

Agriculture recorded the lowest with about 13, 408 applications, the same placement it had in 2008.

On the performance chart, Irene Edem, a 16-year-old from Cross River State was the best performing candidate, with a score of 310. She had applied to read Communications with options at the ABTI-American University of Nigeria.

Igugu Obukohwo Igugu, 23, a male candidate from Delta State came second with a score of 308 and had applied to read Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at the University of Lagos.

Konye Odinde, another female candidate from Delta State, who is 18 years and Raymond Moses-Gombo, a male, 47, from Delta State, also tied with Igugu at 308. Both had applied to study Economics and History respectively at the University of Lagos.

The results also showed that 667,771 males and 514,610 females sat for the 2009 UME, just as 71 visually impaired persons applied for the UME, but only 65 actually sat for the examination.

Ojerinde said the board conducted UME at Ikoyi and Kaduna Prisons for eligible inmates who had indicated interest for the examination and would have completed their jail sentences by the next admission exercise.

He said a total of 46 inmates took the exams. 13 of them were of the Ikoyi Prisons, while other 33 were of Kaduna Prisons.

On the proposed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, which would replace UME next year, Ojerinde clarified that the board’s matriculation examinations were not scrapped as erroneously reported.

I will post newspaper reports for a number of years to prove the consistency of Imo and Anambra. JAMB website contained these information until Dibu Ojerinde destroyed the website (was he hiding something?). This is evidence from 2006.

JAMB Cancels 108,769 Results
Kolawole Daniel, Abuja - 08.07.2006

THE Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cancelled the results of 108,769 candidates out of 806,089 who sat for this year’s Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) for engaging in examination malpractice.

A 38-year-old, Mr. Lymangee Agirafo, Benue State, headed this year’s list with an aggregate score of 330, while Mr. Ade Maliki, 46, from Kogi State with an aggregate score of 324 was also among the top ten.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Professor Bello Salim, said it was quite unfortunate to note that the board was being forced to cancel many results because of large scale irregularity and malpractice discovered during the processing of the results.

Professor Salim also put the number of candidates whose scripts were unscannable at 7,430 due to multiple shading; incomplete shading, incorrect shading and leaving the scripts blank.

“This is quite unhealthy for the education sector and the board will continue to de-recognise examination towns and centres where wholesale malpractices were discovered,” he said.

The JAMB board registrar also announced that it has delisted about 1,700 examination towns where malpractice were perpetrated.

The analysis also showed six states who had the highest number of applications this year with Imo State topping the list with 83,895 applications, Edo State with 57,754, Anambra State with 57,607, Delta State with 54,522, Abia State with 39,054 and Akwa Ibom State with 36,054.

I don't mean by residence. I mean if all Anambrians are counted as Anambrians irrespective of their place of residence, they should exceed 10 million while Imo should be around 8 million.

Lagos will come out smallest if census is done that way.

But you can't do census based on state of origin at the expense of state of residence. Residence is the major yardstick, and then of course ethnicity or tribe must be accounted for in the census questions.

Enugu to support inventor of wind turbine for power generation

News Thursday, March 29, 2012

Enugu – Enugu State Government has promised to support ingenuity of an indigene who has developed a wind turbine that generates 24 kilowatts of electricity at 10 metres per second wind speed.
Speaking at the site of the turbine at Akpuoga Nike, near Enugu, the state's Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mrs Patricia Arum, said the government would collaborate with the fabricator to diversify its energy sources.

Arum expressed happiness that the project was totally indigenous, saying it was in line with the mandate of her ministry to harness human and natural resources in the state for sustainable development.
She commended the fabricator for his ingenuity and said the state government was willing to partner with him in its quest for the industrialisation of the state.
Arum said there were serious challenges in producing electricity for the country and because of this many industries could no longer cope.

"That is why even in this state, we don't want to depend on one source of energy , so we want to encourage him. And I know our state governor will be happy to partner with him because it is part of his four-point agenda. He wants to transform the state, he wants to empower the people of Enugu State."

Speaking earlier, Mr Sabastine Omeh, the Managing Director of Hybrid Micro Machines Products Ltd., fabricators of the turbine, said the turbine was the result of two years of research which he solely financed.
Omeh, a graduate of engineering from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, said he was challenged by the energy crisis in the country and the need to develop indigenous technology.

"What you are seeing today is a product of painstaking pioneering into an alternative electric energy source to the spasmodic and epileptic electric power in this country.
"In spite of fortunes already sunken by the government and current concerted efforts, the sign is still dim that we are near out of the woods.
"By and large, only regional approach based on propinquity and potentiality of power resource bases like water, coal, wind and others, can bring about any lasting solution to our nagging power problem."

Omeh said he had perfected the design of 150kw and 500kw models which could solve the problems of rural electricity, street lighting, rural boreholes and irrigation, among others.
He said he had also designed a coal biomass turbine which was based on the surplus coal reserve in the state. "There is no doubt that with appropriate government interest, Enugu State will sooner than later join the league of bio-mass energy states."

JAMB is done by State of origin and not State of residence. Many of the Imo citizens could be based in Lagos. This is a micro indicator of ethnic population irrespective of residence. I have a firm belief that Anambra is the most populous State in Nigeria closely followed by Imo. If you look at these States from google, the lower half of Anambra and the upper half of Imo is the most densely populated part of Nigeria.

Imo has been leading in University enrollment and graduation in Nigeria for more than 30 years now. I wonder why anyone would argue about the most educated State in Nigeria.

Anambra can't be more populated than Lagos, Kano and Oyo. It may be the next in rank (4th) if no rigging is done. Density correlates well with land mass and both Anambra and Imo are small in land mass.

Abuja — Seven suspected members of a kidnap syndicate accused of complicity in the abduction of one Mohammed Khamis, a United Arab Emirates national, who was lured into the country for a phantom business transaction, were yesterday paraded in Abuja by the State Security Service, SSS.

The suspects reportedly held Khamis hostage for about 60 days at Aboriogun village in Ikoyi town, Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, feeding him with fruits on the orders of other masterminds who are still at large.

The SSS said it was still on the trail of four other persons identified as the masterminds of the abduction of Khamis whom they lured to visit Nigeria on January 20, 2012 for a ghost business transaction using a fake company, Finuche Investments.

The suspects paraded were Ojo Ibrahim Ajibade, a 29 year-old spare parts dealer; Lamidi Akinkunmi, a 29-year-old video cameraman who also practices voodoo; Olasunkanmi Temitope (a.k.a. Rasky), a 22-year-old saw mill worker and Nuremi Lamidi, another saw mill operator aged 25.

Others are Siyanbade Musibau Olalekan, a 29-year-old plank trader; Jelili Ajagungbade Adeleke (a.k.a. Owuye), a 33-year-old driver; and Saka Kashim, a 27-year-old motorcycle mechanic, who admitted to have taken the hostage on a motor cycle to Ibadan.

Parading the suspects before journalists in Abuja, Deputy Director, Public Relations of the State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, said all suspects confessed to taking the foreigner hostage and would soon be charged to court while further investigations aimed at tracking and apprehending those at large continue.

Ogar said: "On January 20, 2012, one Mohammed Khamis Majed Ishmael Al Ali, a United Arab Emirates national, who was lured to visit Nigeria for a phantom business transaction by a fake company, Finuche Investments, was abducted by a kidnap syndicate and held hostage for about 60 days at Aboriogun village in Ikoyi town, Isokan LGA of Osun State.

"Upon receipt of the report of Khamis' abduction, this service immediately initiated investigation. However, Khamis was released by his abductors on March 19, 2012 and dropped off in Ibadan.

"Consequently, on March 20, 2012, operatives of the service arrested the following persons aged between 22- 33 years in connection with the abduction."

Ogar, however, did not disclose where the suspected kidnappers were apprehended nor the current whereabouts of the Arab expatriate.

Worried that Khamis was held in the Osun community for two months without his presence being noticed or reported by residents, Ogar implored members of the public to be wary of suspicious activities in their localities while expressing the determination of security agencies to rid the society of crimes and criminality.

Quizzed by newsmen, two of the suspects who spoke in Yoruba language, Ojo Ibrahim Ajibade and Lamidi Akinkunmi, denied that they were kidnappers, claiming they were only hired by one Teslim Raji suspected to be one of the masterminds at large who paid them an undisclosed sum of money to "guard" and cater for the hostage whom they fed for about 60 days with oranges, apples, banana and sardine.

The suspects said they got frustrated when they no longer heard from their employers and ran out of money for Khamis' upkeep, after which they all contributed N2,000 and commissioned a member of the gang to transport the hostage on motorcycle to Ibadan where he was eventually released.
