Religion / Re: Similarities Between Nigerian Pastors And Politicians by nedostic: 8:58pm On Jul 08, 2012
A hypocritical society would always get what it deserves. This charlatan movement cuts across the Nigerian society be it politicians,christian leaders, islamic leaders,traditional rulers,public servants,civil servants,civil societies,journalists,name it.

My take on this is that people should not be bias towards christian leaders.

We owe it to ourselves to be the change agents we want to be.

The society itself would not change except we start living godly or perhaps morally as the case may be.

I am not against purchase of jet(s) for evangelistic purpose but when it becomes a private jet that is what I am totally uncomfortable with. More so, is the issue of a family-run church, its uncalled for.

It is always good to speak the truth. I believe Pastor Kun got this topic spot on. My own take on this, which might not be foolproof,is that comparison in a way is nearly faultless.

Above all, men of God should try to live a less materialistic life and speak the truth always no matter whose ox is gored.

Jesus Christ loves you all!
Religion / Re: We worship one TRUE GOD not a TRINITY - A Provocative discussion by nedostic: 10:17pm On Jul 06, 2012
Using my own bible sense though its not error poof, I would insist with all sincerity and simplicity that God is a spirit and it is totally illogical and not scriptural to typify a spirit with personality.

From scriptures, its obvious that the Almighty God was personified in Jesus Christ on earth.

Agreed that God manifests as a Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.The Almighty God manifests in anyway it pleases the Almighty because God is limitless.

Maybe those MOGs and others who claim to have visited heaven in trance or other means could please help us out if Jesus Christ is indeed sitting on the right hand side of God.

Let me reiterate that most portions of the bible are written in allegory. We cannot take the face value as it seemingly looks.

I believe this is one area we are lagging behind in our present day churches. More so, most MOGs would rather foist their own opinions or beliefs on their sheep without allowing them to ask relevant questions.I have equally observed some MOGs run away from some of these burning issues in the bible for some obvious reasons-lack of biblical depth,follow-follow syndrome,materialism,etc.

The followers are equally at fault, perhaps due to the economic pressures of life and fast pace of life,all what we desire is miracles that are tied to material comforts.
Even the popular Sunday Schools or Bible teachings are taken for granted by (us) the followers.These activities within the church provide the ample opportunity for us to learn yet we ignore it. More so, we are habitually interested in being spoon-fed without spending our time on self-study of the bible.

I believe as knowledge is expanding in all frontiers,Christians must seek to unearth the truth in their belief systems otherwise atheism(agnosticism) would continually be on the rise.

Anyway, in all God has a plan for His children. More so, not all who claim to be Christians are God's children.

Our most fundamental prayer as Christians is that the Almighty counts us worthy to rest in His abode after our sojourn on earth.

May the Almighty God grant us all the much needed grace to follow the right path of life and His plans and purposes for our lif(v)es. Kindly, pardon the word(life or lives) usage here. Sometimes I get stuck with words and ideas as well. I am not oblivious of my fallibility as a man....lol....

@Frosbel, you are yet to address the water baptism formula question I raised.

I am learning a lot from your incisive posts. I would be glad you respond to it albeit your student(me) and others are equally learning from you and the likes of Oladegbu,Buzugee,Goshen360,Pastor Kun, et al.Thumbs up guys and ladies!

There is no controversy about the Lordship of Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ is still knocking on the doors of the hearts of men.The Lord is readily available to sup with you if only you can give Him access! Make hay while the sun shines!

I,myself, I am not perfect in all my ways but I look upto the Lord Jesus Christ for mercy while continually trying to work on my weaknesses.

A man by nature is naturally averse to doing the will of God, so it takes the grace of God to continually work around one's human weaknesses.

The initial and most fundamental action is to confess the Lordship of Jesus Christ albeit to kick-start the Christian journey.

To our Lord and only Saviour,Jesus Christ, be all the glory(Amen)!

Pax Vobiscum!

@Frosbel,
Please I would like you to address my question on the point I earlier raised on water baptism formula by the disciples.

I am learning quite a lot of deal from you likewise Olaadegbu,Buzugee,et al even though there are some of your stance I might not fully come into grasps with.May the grace of God continually speak in your lifes!
Religion / Re: We worship one TRUE GOD not a TRINITY - A Provocative discussion by nedostic: 12:19pm On Jul 05, 2012
@Olaadegbu,

Thanks for the link anyway. It still does not change the fact that God is a spirit and this issue of personifying a spirit into three persons is pure human senses. More so, God can manifest in so many way it pleases the Almighty to do.

More so, the author is being defensive on his own opinions. I would rather we stick with the word of God, even though its mainly written in allegory,the truth remains that God is a spirit and one God and not three persons or personalities in a spirit.

I might not fully believe in oneness theology but therein lies some latent truth about their message.
Religion / Re: We worship one TRUE GOD not a TRINITY - A Provocative discussion by nedostic: 11:16am On Jul 05, 2012
@Olaadegbu,

Could you please juxtapose your statement on 'God being three personalities as one God'?I asked because God is a spirit.
More so, if you critically look at the bible, most of the baptisms as done by the disciples were in the name of Jesus Christ despite the fact that Jesus Christ instructed the disciples to baptize in the name of the Father,Son,and Holy Spirit.

My take on this is that the bible was majorly written in allegory and we must not always interpret scriptures literally. More so, as children of God it pays to challenge the status quo in our present-day churches as this might have been erroneously passed on to these churches. The only way to go about this is to study the bible and ask for God's spirit for revelation of the undiluted word.

I agree with Frosbel, that God is one and not a triune as we were erroneously taught. It pleases God to manifest as a Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The three bear record in heaven as rightly put in the scriptures.

@Frosbel, the only question I have for you though its seemingly off track from this post,is why did the same disciples did majorly baptize in the name of Jesus as recorded in the bible and not in the name of the Father,Son, and Holy Spirit?

This is an avenue to learn please.I have always believed that learning is the antidote to ignorance and getting it right at the next attempt.More so, the knowledge embedded in the word of God is limitless!Jesus Christ is Lord!

Your observation about RFID chip and the book of revelation is totally based on hear-say. It is totally uncorrelated with the word of God. I would advise you to personally study the book of revelations before jumping into conclusion.Above all, it would be good we all learn to separate religion from socio-economic and technological issues.
Education / Re: Emmanuel Ohuabunwa 1st Blackman With 3.98 GPA At John Hopkins University by nedostic: 9:13pm On Jun 26, 2012
@OP,
Thanks for a job well done.This post is apt for this forum.

The young man from Abia State has done the country proud. I am so proud of his achievements and having gone through his interview he made some salient points as regards the way forward for Nigerian education and the health sector as well.Going by what I read the Emmanuel has the right Nigerian spirit-resilience in adversity.

Thumbs up Emmanuel Ohuabunwa! Your country-Naija is proud of you achievements. No matter what the western media might say on our battered image, some of us would continually shake the world in multifaceted walks of life and our dearly beloved country-Naija would continually be written in the annals of gold.

Finally,I would like to highlight three key reasons that seem to have hampered most people in life,viz: lack of opportunities,indolence,and misplaced priorities.
Politics / Re: Gov Rochas Okorocha Buying Roasted Corn.(pic) by nedostic: 8:56pm On Jun 26, 2012
What has this picture got to do with governance?
The governor is a man like you and I and he is free to buy corn at any given time he wants and this act of his must be detached from his office.
More so, I do not see the sense in this media hype. What has road-side corn purchase by a governor got to do with an economy? Of course, there is no rippling effect on the economy nor externality as the case maybe.
We must learn to separate sentimentalism and parochialism from governance.
As Nigerians, we must stay focused on the big picture rather than dwelling on trivialities otherwise our leaders would habitually play on our intelligence.

My take on this topic is rather a simple advice. You need to be purposeful and keep at it despite initial challenges.Please do not have high hopes that abroad is an Eldorado!
Most importantly,before leaving Naija,ensure you save enough or have enough cash to settle bills for at least six(6) months of your stay.
Finally, if you are moving over for study or career prospects, try as much as you can to pursue a genuine cause and try to live within your means.
Religion / Re: Bible Teachers,Let's Prove "Nephilim" Myth In Gen.6:1-4: Are They Fallen Angels? by nedostic: 6:56pm On Jun 25, 2012
Its VERY obvious that there are dissenting opinions to this topic equally all backed up with biblical proofs and to some extent scientific study.

Please I would like Frosbel to personally and with the help of the Holy spirit adduce the reasons why some angels left their first estate and are being bound in everlasting chains.

At others, if of a truth the fallen angels mated with women.What stop other demons who are moving to and fro the earth not to be engaged in the unholy act within the present day generation? Has the Almighty God put restrictions on the demons or what in the post-flood era?

More so, I do like to ask a pertinent question once more concerning the book of Job about the sons of God being gathered and Lucifer was equally there in their presence before God. My question is rather simple. Can Lucifer still appear in heaven given that the sons of God as being mainly purported are angels of God?

I am asking because I want to learn and hopefully this would rub off on others as well.

Jesus Christ is Lord!
Religion / Re: Bible Teachers,Let's Prove "Nephilim" Myth In Gen.6:1-4: Are They Fallen Angels? by nedostic: 6:30pm On Jun 23, 2012
@Frosbel....So who where the angels in the book of Jude referred to? Albeit, they kept not their first estate and have been placed in everlasting chains.

I do equally want to find out from everyone on the possibility of Satan appearing in heaven before God with the sons of God as noted in the book of Job knowing fully well that prior to this era,Satan with other angels have been cast down from heaven. Could these sons of God be human beings and not angels or is it that Satan could still find his way to heaven and appear before the Lord of Hosts?

I asked because I want to learn and most importantly I am neophyte when it comes to Bible Study.

I must admit,thumbs up to this post!Virtually all the posts have strong convictions.

May the good Lord show us mercy and grant us understanding of His word through the Holy Spirit.
Religion / Re: Bible Teachers,Let's Prove "Nephilim" Myth In Gen.6:1-4: Are They Fallen Angels? by nedostic: 11:20am On Jun 22, 2012
@OP
This topic is quite spiritually educative and I must admit I am still learning from all posts. I might strongly support Frosbel's posts but also I am learning from others.

@Patsey,

Methinks your write up sounds rather religiously inclined and it is seemingly opinionated.I would implore you to open up your mind to the truth about God's word and lay less emphasis from what you were taught in a school nay bible school.What is the essence of acute critical thinking with the word of God?The word of God is not an academic exercise! What is of essence to a christian is to humble him(her)self before God and ask for the Spirit of understanding of God's word and equally form a habit of independently studying the bible.

Finally,as Christians let us continually learn from each other and desist from pouring vituperations on posters.Rather let us apply our energies in doing a critique of posts and justifying it with the WORD. Most of these heated arguments arise from the fact that denomination has not helped us as Christians in any way.
Religion / Re: My Brothers And Sisters Be Warn Of The Mark by nedostic: 10:12pm On Jun 14, 2012
@Frosbel, I am sure you got this spot-on.

The mark is rather symbolic than physical.The book of Revelation just like most parts in the book of Daniel is quite symbolic and connotes deep spiritual meanings rather than what human senses can easily come to terms with.

May the good Lord grant us the grace of obeisance.
Religion / Re: Church Billboards Must Now Carry Pictures Of Pastor & Pastor Mrs?? by nedostic: 7:45pm On Jun 13, 2012
The truth remains that most of the so called men of God are too materialistic in thoughts and actions. Some of these 'MOG' are interested in creating self-styled images for themselves and nothing more.

I do not see any correlation between displaying pictures of Pastor&Pastor(Mrs) or church structure(s) on signboard,billboard or perhaps a flyer and the word of God.

Permit me to digress a bit as well. The appellation - Pastor(Dr) or Prophet(Dr) or whatever appellation that seems academic should not be used by one who is called out to be a shepherd. As lettered as Apostle Paul and even Luke who was a doctor, they were simply addressed as brothers in the bible.

I await to see a post that might be contrariwise and equally backed with biblical proofs or genuine common sense.
Religion / Re: If God Knew Satan Will Rebel And Adam And Eve Will Sin, Why Did He Create Them? by nedostic: 11:01pm On Jun 11, 2012
My take on this topic is that we cannot fully have a grasp of the Living God with our carnal knowledge. The Living God is a spirit and defiles all human logic and knowledge.

I have a probing mind just like the OP but many a time I have come to realize the fact that man is limited in his own knowledge mostly when it comes to spiritual matters. There are so many questions as it pertains the Bible that would always generate heated arguments with our human senses but only the Living God can unravel some of these answers to us.

I believe what is of import to any Christian now is to try as much as s(he) could to live a puritanical life wile asking God for continuous mercy because righteousness cannot be attained by one's work alone.

Jesus Christ is Lord!

This is a topic that demands sober reflection amongst us all as a people and as such silly comments ought to be deleted.

@OP:You are 75% right about your assertion that we are all corrupt ridden including my humble self.
My only take on this is that leadership could still engineer the much needed change we need as a people even though we are a pervasive nation.
More so, our parents and elders have a lot to do. There is the need to inculcate the right values of life to their children and wards.

Religious organisations have not equally helped matters in Nigeria. Prosperity sermons are good but of much importance is character building in people. There is a need to lay less emphasis on materialism. It would be good for religious leaders to be on the fore front of anti-corruption crusade and this must definitely start within these religious bodies.

Corruption has not only infested us with our ways of life but also we have become mentally and religiously infested with this cankerworm.It is synonymous to a deep-seated cancer in the human body.

In wrapping up my contribution, I would say that it is much easier for us to condemn our leaders without us taking an introspective look at ourselves. We all have our faults and so is the leader. I have often ask myself about the market woman who sells garri in cups and habitually complains that President Jonathan Ebele Goodluck is corrupt and yet the same woman cheats on her customers by deliberately and craftily using a 'cheat cup' for measurement. What a country where falsehood and hypocrisy seem to be the pinnacle of her greatness!

We all need to make the right changes to our attitudes if we want our dearly beloved country to thrive in the right direction otherwise we shall keep pointing accusing fingers at ourselves and not just the leaders. After all, leadership evolves from within the same society.

I believe we should not praise sing her for now. Though she seems to have started in the right direction but you never can tell of her latent ambitions being a typical African politician. I equally have fears that she might become a puppet to external economic forces.If she claims to be a Christian I wonder why she should be nursing the idea of lifting the ban on homosexuality. More so, we should equally watch out those who would be buying the government assets that she disposed.From experience, we have discovered that most government assets are bought by the same government officials or their cronies at a give away price.

Devaluation of currency as an economic trade weapon has its limitation considering the fact that we all live in a global village. The pros as given in textbooks do not not necessarily pan out when it comes to international trade.

Any nation that lacks the milieu for R&D to thrive would continually wallow in trade imbalances and in tandem such a nation as it is today in the African continent becomes economic lackeys to donor countries or agencies.

Methinks school fees beyond N50,000 per academic year in any university is beyond the reach of mass of Nigeria.When parents start paying astronomical school fees it could lead to compromise of one's faith. It is a known fact that making money genuinely in Nigeria can be likened to one cracking a hard rock. As religious as Nigerians claimed to be,we all know very well that we lack moral rectitude as a people.

More so, religious organisations are NPOs,and as such if they are to add values to the society in the form of education, it behooves on them to come up with affordable school fees for the mass of the population.

Back in the days of the missionary schools, these schools were made free for so many Nigerians.So, I see no reason why this cannot be replicated.

Agreed some of the churches and mosques give out scholarships, but how many people have access to it? Frankly speaking, even some of the scholarship schemes are hijacked by some of the influential members of these religious sects.

I might not have an idea of the Quaran but the Bible of which I believe in does not support in its entirety the idea of a church running as a profit oriented organisation.Some one might say I am wrong in this my assertion!If anyone thinks contrarily with this assertion of mine, please educate me with the undiluted word of God and not common sense please.I need facts and if possible figures based on the bible.

@Frosbel.....quality education does not necessarily connote exorbitant school fees..... The Nigerian society has its peculiarities and we must not always forget the fact that about 80% of Nigerians live in squalor. Since education is a major socio-economic weapon , there is the need by religious organisations to lower their school fees so that many Nigerians can have access to tertiary education and in tandem put food at their tables.

@OP,

I am just reading this discourse for the first time. Kindly give more insights on this topic. Methinks its is a fascinating topic and would really love to learn more considering the bible is the most powerful tool in Christendom.If one is honest with him(her)self as a christian, you must ask questions on the origin of the bible and some of its teachings as well because this is one of the ways you can go grow your faith. I have always believed that Christians ought to have a probing mind and ask their shepherd questions.
Faith based teachings are okay but it is much more paramount for Christian leaders to dig in to sound doctrines and educate their sheep on the unadulterated word of the Living God.

So many of us profess to be Christians yet we do not know much about the originality of the bible!More so, we are contented with stories of other people and we care less to ask pertinent questions as it affects our faith. Perhaps, the reason is that we are in a fast-paced age and we are mostly interested in miracle teachings rather than the truth.

Prosperity is not a spirit. Financial prosperity can be likened to one enjoying a state of comforts which is in relative term(s). Poverty is a socio-economic malady.

There is no where it is stated in the Holy Scriptures about prosperity or poverty being spirits.
Religion / Re: Who Is Jesus ? by nedostic: 10:11am On May 16, 2012
John 1: 1 says it all.Jesus Christ is the Lord and that is name of the father,son and holy spirit.
I buttress this statement with the baptism the apostles of the old did in the name of Jesus Christ and not in the figurative expression in the name of the father,son,and holy spirit.
I believe the apostles should be our role models in Christianity and we must not deviate from what their good deeds.
I was appalled to read from one of these posts about the ridiculing of apostle Paul.Apostle Paul was a man who was fearless in his faith and a man of immense virtues who charted the gospel par excellence.I must admit that I hold him in such a high esteem amongst all the apostles.
If anyone can open a contrary scripture where the apostles did baptize in the name of the father,son,and holy spirit;I would be very willing to learn from that fellow.
In summary,the bible is quite a difficult book to comprehend with our human senses, we need to seek spiritual guidance on it and in tandem equally be willing to open up ourselves to learning rather than unnecessary and spiritually unhealthy arguments.

@Anony, It is very scriptural to have deacon,prayer warrior,elders,et al. The church is an organisation,thus,responsibilities and authorities must be evenly spread otherwise the church becomes a dysfunctional entity.

As regards the issue of father or mother in the Lord or a man of God attaching PhD title to his office, it is not a biblical doctrine.

What is much more paramount for Christians most especially men of God is to live a life of asceticism and not a life of flamboyancy.

I have come to the understanding that since culture has intertwined a lot with Christianity most christian followers in Nigeria make the mistake of using some of these titles in addressing their pastors.
