Your anger seems to have stepped up a gear since this Ibori's arrest, just out of curiosity is Ibori related to you.
Thank God I am not related to him-- I would have been terribly disgraced to have him in my lineage-I am not from Delta state--But I wish I would have gotten some of the loot too! Anger? You mean passion? Please I have always been against the EFCC from day one. Ibori is not my concern here okay? Please get that straight. Do I live in Nigeria? Not related to him at all--thank God, and for the records I detest him! @ McKren
almondjoy is a pessimist who believes each and everyone in Nigeria is corrupt, and that any perceived 'action' to prosecute a corrupt person is simply an exercise in futility since 'they' are all cut from the same cloth originally. She also feels that corruption is ingrained and Nigerians are not really interested in getting rid of it, even with blatant and egregious evidence available.
She uses 'figurative' expressions to pass across her disdain and complete condemnation of everything gone wrong in Nigeriashe holds little, if any, hope in the redemption of the nation
I am glad you understand me perfectly well. You are really a very intelligent young man. I am still saving my daughter for you oh. I must make sure she marries you--but she is only 12! Like you all say in Nairaland------WORD!

To the eternal pessimists, I hear you well. I have my doubts about Nigeria's viability as a state as well, but here it is again just in case you misssed it: IBORI HAS BEEN ARRESTED!
Believe me, thats not the type of headline most people in their right senses wants to wake up to, most especially one that has propelled himself into a major power broker in Nigeria's politics using his stolen wealth. The fact is Ibori doesn't have the choice of going clubbing or visiting the beach this weekend if that's what he normally does.
What happened yesterday is what Nigerians (the eternal pessimists including) have been hoping for - (1) that office holders who abuse their office and corruptly enrich themselves be made accountable - even if it means spending just two weeks in jail and returning some loot for starters. (2) That the myth or air of "Oga's invincibility" be punctured as thats a major contributor to our problems.
Not everyone is as connected as Ibori, meaning if you steal there is no assurance that you will get the Ibori's treatment(no AGF to shield you). While you can't never eliminate corruption, you can definitely introduce deterrence to keep it in check. Then maybe the nation might exhibit some life.

They say "give a man a fish and the next day he would come asking for more, but teach a man how to fish and he would bother you no more (or something along those lines)" I don't think that welfare is the solution in Nigeria, i think its a great idea and would help but the govts have to create free education starting first with Primary schools in the rural areas and the govt should also subsidize agriculture (paying for the cost of production); providing free tractors, free fertilizers and seeds to every nigerian farmer. Creating a great public transportation network to the cities, and good transportation network (e.g railway) It should also connect the rural areas to electricity creating rooms for the establishment of light industries like textile industries, and food processing industries. Also, there should be clean water for those in the rural areas. In order to depopulate this cities, you have to make life comfortable for people to want to live and invest in the rural areas. Nigeria spends more on her defense budget than on Agriculture (what are we defending???), its time for us to step up and stop blundering.

Nigeria is no doubt an unserious country!
Imagine, just as Ibori was being charged to court yesterday, Alams was being freed!
Where is the fight againt corruption?
The examples are numerous: Tafa, Eyindero, Alams. They stole collosal sum of money, made to refund part of it and release them to go home and enjoy the rest.
Why can't we make a scape goat of one by giving him ten years imprisonment with hard labour (is there anything like "soft" labour?). Until this is done, an average politician will go about with the impression that if you are caught, government will only collect back a fraction of your loot and release you to enjoy the rest. If not, where will a single individual get the gut and the audacity to launder over N10.08 billion?
Where?

IT IS KIND OF IRONIC THAT IBORI WAS ARRESTED 2 DAYS AGO, CHARGED YESTERDAY AND YAR'ADUA MET WITH pRESIDENT BUSH YESTERDAY ! TO ME THE WHOLE ARREST IS JUST A PHOTO OP AND A FRONT YAR'ADUA'S ADMINSTRATIONS IS USING TO GET THE ATTENTION OF THE WORLD. EVENTHOUGH IT IS A GOOD THING EFCC DID BUT WE NEED TO DO THINGS IN THE RIGHT WAY AND ON OUR OWN TERMS. I CAN GURANTEE YOU THAT IF YAR'ADUA WAS NOT AT THE WHITE HOUSE YESTERDAY, IBORI WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ARRESTED. GOOD TIMING IF YOU ASKE ME.

On Photo Ops: We need more Photo Ops like this. . . But then you have to ask yourself if "THEY" all knew these are photo ups, why not take the pictures months ago and spare us the daily lectures about rule of law, while giving the Brits a headache at the same time?
On Whats Next: One can only hope the courts do their thing. Hopefully they too can "photo-up" Ibori to a few month jail time with the option of returning all assets bought with Delta State money. That may sound mediocre, but you have to begin from some where.
On Christmas Money: Looks like an early Christmas bonanza of $15million was offered months ago but the EFCC did not bite, you didn't read that part?
Bottom Line: I can not read anyone's mind and I am unconvinced yet about Yar Adua's plan to fight corruption in Nigeria besides whats on paper. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that Ribadu and the people at the EFCC are genuine about fighting corruption. He would have made tremendous progress if he did not have a compromised OBJ and now an indecisive Yar-Adua in his way. I will take little victory to none any day.

Fellow nairalanders and nigerians, let's thank goodness that this is happening in our land at last. The fact that the supposedly big guns are made to face the consequences of their kleptomaniac acts either while still in office or immediately after shedding their immunity toga is heart warming. My people, let's forget whether it's a smoke screen or not, the issue is that a strong signal is been sent to others still in positions of overseeing the peoples resources as regards dipping their hands in public funds anyhow, they will want to think twice. While i appreciate the contributions and concern of all, My humble submission is that Nigeria will get to that point which you all desire, a state where the rule of law is the order of the day. A state where public office holders will serve with the love of the people and that of God at heart, a place where leaders are accountable to the led,, the campaign has begun for real, selah. To EFCC,ICPC, Judiciary, Presidency, etc, all eyes are on you, posterity is beckoning on you and history is waiting to see what you would make out of this , I wish you are able to brace up and summom up courage to fight the tetra headed monster called corruption in this land. To President Yar Adua, this is a litmus test for your administration, the house contract saga of Olubunmi Etteh has come and gone, we are waiting to see how you handle this case more so that the person involved is not just a former colleague, but a huge benevolent of your ascention to Aso rock. To the goog people of Nigeria, " weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning" Peace.
